Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 5?

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) looks to be the leading captain candidate for Gameweek 5, but are there any viable alternatives to the Egyptian for this upcoming round of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) action?

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 5 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of today’s 18:30 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Salah is the runaway leader of the Gameweek 5 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 60.4% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Only one other player has garnered more than 10% of votes at this stage, with Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) in second place, backed by 14.74% of users.

Patrick Bamford (£7.9m) occupies third place with 4.9% of votes, with Romelu Lukaku (£11.6m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) behind the Leeds United man, with 4.45% and 2.47% respectively.

      Romero and Sanchez likely to be available, but Romero's barely had a proper start to his Spurs career and both will have only had 1 day's training with the rest of the squad in the last 3 weeks by the time Sunday comes around

        True, I think Sanchez does ok against lukaku, he’s not the best but he is strong and quick. Could be horribly wrong

          He's done pretty well in the games he's played so far tbh, although I guess he hasn't yet really played against a proper 9 like Lukaku (Jiminez arguably is but seems to be playing deeper under Lage) so it'll be a different test

      Very good option and was overlooked at the start of the season so that digne could stink out everyone’s team instead !

      Should be an even better option with zouma in the box to land his crosses on we know what he’s like from set plays

      Too many goals conceded by WH for a 5.5 def IMO, he has started well though and with Zouma there has even more firepower to aim at from setpieces. I just like feeling a bit more secure with defs of clean sheets for that price

        Thanks - yes It's a 1 week punt really, plus I already had him in the team.

        With the depth of the team I can afford to bench him through the 2 tougher fixtures or if Greenwood keeps firing switch it. All depends if he nails this striker spot. With KDB / Foden / Sterling lurking I'm not convinced he can, but Pep seems to really want him to take the spot...
