Benitez provides injury updates on Richarlison, Coleman and Pickford

The most-played fixture in English football history, Aston Villa v Everton, brings Saturday’s Gameweek 5 action to a close.

Kick-off at Villa Park is at 17:30 BST.

Everton were already without the sidelined Dominic Calvert-Lewin for tonight’s match but Rafael Benitez has been hit by a further three injury blows in the run-up to the trip to Villa, with Jordan Pickford, Richarlison and Seamus Coleman all absent.

“With the tackle of Tarkowski, Richarlison was complaining about his knee during the week and he couldn’t do it.

“Pickford has a problem with his shoulder, he couldn’t do it.

“Seamus Coleman. At the end of the training session, he was a little bit tight, he felt his hamstring.

At the moment we think it would be 2/3 weeks minimum [for Richarlison, Pickford and Coleman] and after we will see.” – Rafael Benitez

Asmir Begovic, Alex Iwobi and Salomon Rondon start in place of that absent trio but there have been no other unenforced changes from the win over Burnley on Monday.

Dean Smith makes one alteration from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez returning to the starting XI in place of Jed Steer after completing his 10-day quarantine period in Croatia.

Emiliano Buendia is also back but only makes the bench.

Why isn't Salah given the assist for Keita's goal?

We see rebounds off the keeper given as assists all the time.

Because keita wasn't the intended target

The player who scores a rebound off the keeper is never the intended target?

That's why they added Rebound as a sub catergory in the rules. Read them!

That wasn't a rebound off the keeper. The keeper gave it a full bodied double punch

So if he just mildly touched it and someone scored, then Salah would get the assist?

it was not a rebound! geez dude. The keeper fully intended the ball to do that. A rebound is not controlled

So my question is, if Salah took the corner, and keeper hurriedly just parried away the ball without any control, and it was a faint touch , not a ver y hard one, and then Keita scored, would he then get the assist?

This is from the fpl rules

      "Assists

Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the final pass before a goal is scored. An assist is awarded whether the pass was intentional (that it actually creates the chance) or unintentional (that the player had to dribble the ball or an inadvertent touch or shot created the chance).

If an opposing player touches the ball after the final pass before a goal is scored, significantly altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is awarded. Should a touch by an opposing player be followed by a defensive error by another opposing outfield player then no assist will be awarded. If the goal scorer loses and then regains possession, then no assist is awarded."

By these rules of 'intended destination', no rebounds off the keeper should ever be given as assists?

            How does FPL know?

Just want to clear up the rules, if this was a FK, would it have been given?

            1. Zalk
              • 12 Years
              2 years, 7 months ago

No. If it was a freekick 1cm from the corner spot and the situation played out exactly the same, then no assist. This since he crossed the ball and the goalkeeper significantly altered the intended destination of the ball.

If a person scores from a rebound from on a off target shot, he won't get the assist?

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
                2 years, 7 months ago

Well obviously there's some gray area, sometimes a cross turns into a shot like Traore earlier today

Just need to use common sense, sometimes it's hard to tell and fpl will get it wrong

In this case it isn't hard to tell that Salah crossed

                  2 years, 7 months ago

So basically it's a gray area and someone manually decides it, right?

                    • 7 Years
                    2 years, 7 months ago

It's generally pretty clear the shot/cross situation.

Salah was never getting an assist for it.

                  2. @persecuted_by_mods
                      2 years, 7 months ago

Yes of course, we all know that. There's no way to get it right 100% of times, sometimes a cross can be deadlier than someone intending to shoot

                    • Zalk
                      • 12 Years
                      2 years, 7 months ago

Obviously someone has to manually devide it since it's impossible to know if some shots would have ended up on target or not. Fpl decides in this case.

                    A shoots/crosses the ball.
                    Keeper touch.
                    And then a goal.

                    Should A get an assist?
Or does it depend on if the shot was on or off target?
Or if the keeper was in control or not?
If yes, then where are these mentioned in the rules?

let me give you another scenario.
                      A has a shot.
Defender claims ball and kicks it away.
B goes in gets the ball and scores

Would you still want an assist for A? It's pretty similar to this scenario

                        Exactly the problem we have.
If it's a rebound from a keeper, they award an assist, but if it's a rebound from a goal line clearance from a defender, they don't?

Left Sanchez, Sarr and Semedo on the bench to make myself feel better at the end of the GW with Antonio and Llorente out and assuming Matip was rested (which he was) so Livramento in for him. Chuffed, now have to hope Lukaku(C) over Salah wasn't as bad a call as it might look like it'll end up being now.

Same, need Lukaku to go big again. Bit of a jammy haul for Salah, took his chances well but wasn't involved that much.

Would you take 5 points from Livramento or you hope Benrahma will be fit ?

Leaning towards holding Bamford and Jimenez. Antonio is tempting. Have Semedo too.

Wolves play Newcastle in 2 weeks. Might hold till then and ship later.

Anyone else watch the Liverpool game? Gallagher put in another solid performance today, but if you have to pick between him and Zaha, who are you choosing (forget the 1.3mil price difference for now)? Does Zaha being on pens sway it (albeit Gallagher on set pieces)?

Raphinha to Sarr anyone? Kneejerky but Raph could be injured and Sarr has NEW which is too good to ignore. He has hattrick potential, Raph doesn't and Leeds look awful.

NEW, lee then reassess. Like I said, he has hattrick potential. The other 5.5-6.5 don't.

it's not really a kneejerk to get Sarr in, but it's hard to justify with Watford's fixtures after the next 2.

I don't think it's worth it, I have Sarr but knew it was going to be short term and won't keep him for too much longer but unless Raphinha's injury is really serious, I'll be keeping him for longer. That being said Leeds' form in front of goal is a problem

4.5 striker to Dennis for free?

4th and 5th mids are Raphina and Odegaard so shd not be a benching headache

Im considering taking out Torres for Sarr instead of Benrahma out. Torres has 2 difficult fixtures next and is a bigger rotation risk. Benrahma has Leeds and Brentford next. Good or bad move?

        Salah Sarr Odegarrd Gray 4.5

        Ronaldo Antonio Lukaku

        Any glaring anomalies?
