Three attacking FPL defenders who have caught my eye for Gameweek 6

Stevie of EyeTestFPL spotlights three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defenders that caught his eye in Gameweek 5, using ‘eye test’ screenshots and information from our Premium Members Area.

Ricardo Pereira (£5.5m)

In the game against Brighton and Hove Albion, Brendan Rodgers set up in a new 4-3-3 formation which involved playing James Maddison (£6.8m) at right wing whilst deploying a solid three-man midfield consisting of Youri Tielemans (£6.4m), Wilfred Ndidi (£5.0m) and Boubakary Soumare (£4.9m).

Even though Maddison started out on the flank, Rodgers would always envision him playing more centrally and so, in this new formation, Ricardo Pereira was encouraged to push further up the pitch to provide the width.

Maddison’s central positioning was important in making sure that Leicester never ran out of passing options in midfield.

However, in the second half, as Leicester were chasing the game and needed more directness, Ademola Lookman (£6.0m) was brought on for Maddison.

After the tactical switch, Pereira almost immediately struck a chord with the new signing as Lookman would often make runs down the right channel.

Leading up to Jamie Vardy’s (£10.4m) goal, Lookman made a similar run down the channel before combining well with Pereira.

There were also glimpses of the Pereira of old when he attempted to make an inside run into the box which was unfortunately not spotted by Lookman, who instead chose to take a pop at goal himself.

Between the two full-backs, Pereira (left) was clearly given more freedom to roam forward than Ryan Bertrand (£4.9m) (right).

Manquillo or Duffy for a cheap defender bench slot on wildcard? Or just upgrafe to a 4.5?

    Have Livramento already.

Wouldn’t go with Jota but tbh with all in doubts this week I’m unsure who I would go with on WC. Such a bad week to WC

8 rotating attackers always creates a headache. might suggest someone like Gilmour which allows for money to be spent elsewhere. Can understand why you keep 2x west ham in the short term
Jota to Son would be very nice move if you can make it work
ASM to Armstrong for the extra 0.5m too

Some options, would love some expert advice:

    a) Torres to Sarr (own Salah Jota Gray Gilmour) and offset city next 2 fixtures. Prefer a defender from gw8
    b) Bamford to Armstrong to fund a future city defender. With chelsea next week its now or wait 2 weeks for this move (own Lukaku Antonio)
    c) Both for -4 (have James as well and simply can't afford too many no shows)
    d) any other move

    Guiata Steer
    Trent James Semedo Livra White
    Salah Jota Torres Gray Gallagher
    Lukaku Antonio Bamford

          Gw6 Bamford > ASM/Armstrong
          Gw7 Semedo > Rudiger
          Gw8 Jota > ??
I would possibly get a city defender gw8 rather than another chelsea defender

Yeh the plan is gw8 city defender
Do you think semedo Gilmour can cover for a Torres / James benching instead of -4 Sarr over the next 2? Fearful of a couple cameos as well James Torres

Which is the 7.6m to ship out?

    Thinking they're both stuttering..

    A) Greenwood > Sarr
    B) Jota > Sarr

if you intend to keep one long term, keep Greenwood. But if both will go eventually, keep Jota this week

I'm torn overall as neither are firing.

I feel Greenwoods output is being cannibalised by Ronaldo.

Jota is maybe just unlucky, but will be rotate soon?

Nope. For me It’s just another transfer out waiting to happen. Over the next couple of game weeks I would be looking to make changes in other areas. For example considering a double up of CR7 and Lukaku. To do that I’d rather shift Jota and Greenwood down to folks who have demonstrated more consistency so far.

So I'm looking to get lukau + Ronaldo too.

Who would you suggest downgrading Jota and Greenwood to as enablers?

I will probably go Lukaku in GW8 or 9.
              Got my eye on:
              Elyounoussi
              Gallagher

Thanks for the recommendations. I think certainly Gallagher will pick up regular points.

I think Sarr has explosive potential, so am tempted to give him a try too.

    Sanchez
    TAA Shaw Livra
    Salah Jota Raph Sarr
    CR7 Antonio Bam**

Steele Dier Coady McArthur (1ft 0.5m itb)

    A) Bam -> Dennis (then get lukaku next week for Antonio)
    B) Bam -> ASM/Jimenez/Maupay (then get lukaku for cristiano)

    GW7 onwards...

Is Ronaldo + Lukaku going to be essential?

    1. Harry the Hack

No-one is essential apart from your captain for the week

      1. Futureform

I guess that's true. Leaving space to move Lukaku in without losing Ronaldo is tricky.

          • 14 Years
          2 years, 6 months ago

I know the FOMO with Ronaldo is massive. Bear in mind he has only played a woeful Newcastle at home and against West Ham his goal came from a rebound most goalkeepers would have held. If its one of the other GW7 I'd be going Lukaku.
Having said that, full disclosure I do have both

Yes, thats what he achieved output wise. But he looks dangerous the whole time, is constantly on the verge of getting pens and we're all guessing will be on pens.

Many midpriced players are injured. Most of the midfielder’s from good team are in rotation risk. Its better to go for ronaldo + lukaku than asm/Armstrong, torres/grealish/son/jota/greenwood

      1. Futureform

It's a good point. I'm looking to lower Jota and Greenwood down for funds.

I'll have to lose another player I don't want to to bring lukaku though - Antonio or TAA.

I'm still convinced that a team without 2 rather than all 3 big hitters will get more points over 4-5 weeks than one with them.

But I'm not as convinced as I once was...

      1. Futureform
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 6 months ago

        That could be correct.

My fear is Ronaldo is Ronaldo and will keep scoring against whoever. The Utd team are just aiming the ball at him the whole time.

Lukaku's record against lower table teams I believe is goals.

For me it comes down to Lukaku v TAA in terms of sacrifice.

        1. Harry the Hack
          • 14 Years
          2 years, 6 months ago

I think from GW7 onwards the choice is Ronaldo v TAA. I view Lukaku as essential in that period (my captaincy will not be moving). I'm not trying to talk you out of Ronaldo (although i do think he wont see as much of the ball once he faces real defences). One thing you know is he will continue to increase your TV.

          1. Harry the Hack

It's a very interesting point comparison to speculate about over the period. TAA v Ronaldo.

I guess TAA will organically accrue 6pts minimum almost every week because of the nature of this Liverpool team. He's bound to get the odd extra output.

The FOMO with Ronaldo is the haul capability, especially when the team is trying to gift wrap him success.

            It's a solid dilemma.

I’d go further than that. Ronaldo is (genuinely) one of the greatest players of all time... it would not surprise me in the slightest to see him posting better figures in the harder fixtures.

            • 14 Years

When the pressure was on and an extra goal was needed against West Ham the best he could do was jump into defender legs playing for penalties.

          2. Futureform
            • 3 Years
            2 years, 6 months ago

This is it in a nutshell. It's Ronaldo and anything might happen with his record, status, conversion to a central attacker, and United's approach.

The fear is he scores, often.

            1. Futureform
              • 3 Years
              2 years, 6 months ago

This is true too. It's hard to know whether EPL defences will figure him out.

Would you bet against Ronaldo succeeding against those defences. Its tricky.

No I haven't. Obviously he's scored a tonne of goals and already scored 4 for United again.

Maybe you know some details that would indicate he won't sustain this form. Would be really interesting to know if you have any insight. Thanks!

I get the feeling ole Bobby Firms might come on for a sub appearance this weekend if Pool look a bit sluggish or haven't broken their hosts down yet. This might be Jota's last ride in my team.

And will Trent and Antonio sellers feel pangs of regret? I think there's a chance.

And this is the weekend for my boy Fornals to chip in again, calling it. That Leeds defense is just crying out to be sliced apart.

A is the safe option , surely Sarr wont get double digits again

I’d expect (hope) his next 2 weeks total to outscore Torres, which would help fund a city defender in gw8. That’s my main thinking

    can torres>sarr + bamford>armstrong -4 pay off over the next 2-3 weeks?
Have Reece James and can't stomach another benching + potential Torres miss/cameo
I know sou face chelsea next week but easy switch to 442 for one week
possibly allows to save a transfer in gw7 and use one move for city defender in gw8

    Thoughts?

Tricky one, my instinct would be to just do one of the transfers this week and wait and see with the other.

For example, lets say Bamford or even DCL return next week, how would you feel about owning Armstrong?

Torres > Sarr would remove some of the rotation anxiety and you could just bench Bamford this week.

I like Armstrong longer term good fixtures the next 6 weeks outside of Chelsea. It’s more the doubt with Bamford especially being ruled out this early.
It’s whether the hit accounts for the potential to save a transfer next week to have 2 in gw8.
        No easy decision either way
Wouldn’t bring DCL back straight away plus he’s away to United in 7.
The fact James could miss too means I’m missing too many points in the short term which hurts

Torres to Sarr for free seems obvious?

    Who’s everyone replacing Bamford with?

Might just bench him. Do we think he's out more than one week?

I’d do the same but I also have Raph and with Brownhill my only feasible bench option (others Ayling and Tsimi)

Interesting one. Tottenham don't know how to score any more, and James could well get you 1 point making a cameo. I say Tierney

No Chelsea or United as I'm getting rid of Bruno for this transfer, bring in Ronaldo or Lukaku. Other 2 are Ings and Antonio
