Zaha and Maupay on target as Brighton earn late draw at Selhurst Park

We conclude our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 6 write-ups with analysis of Crystal Palace v Brighton and Hove Albion.

For a summary of all seven of Saturday’s games, click here, while the footer at the bottom of this piece will direct you to our detailed Scout Notes on the other Gameweek 6 action.

CRYSTAL PALACE 1-1 BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

  • Goals: Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) | Neal Maupay (£6.5m)
  • Assists: Conor Gallagher (£5.7m) | Joel Veltman (£4.4m)
  • Bonus points: Maupay x3, Veltman x2, Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) x1, Zaha x1

ZAHA CONVERTS FROM THE SPOT

Having stepped up to convert a first-half penalty, Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) has now scored five goals in his last five games against Brighton at Selhurst Park.

The 28-year-old carried most of the Eagles’ threat on the night, as Patrick Vieira’s side launched the majority of their attacks down his flank, with Zaha and Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) as involved as any in the final-third.

Despite tonight’s late set-back, it’s been a reasonable start to the season for Palace, who have six points from their opening six games. During that run, they’ve had a tricky set of fixtures, having already faced Liverpool and Chelsea, while it’s also worth noting that they remain unbeaten at home.

In an attacking sense, they have registered a league-low 14 shots on target, while only Spurs have accumulated fewer goal attempts. However, their 7.44 xG ranks mid-table, and there is potential to do well with Leicester City and Newcastle United’s shaky defences up next at Selhurst Park.

GALLAGHER LOSES SET-PIECES

In another energetic midfield display, Conor Gallagher (£5.7m) bagged an assist after winning the first-half penalty. The on-loan Chelsea man has now netted two goals and three assists this season, and ranks 11th amongst all midfielders for FPL points.

However, with Luka Milivojevic (£5.4m) returning to the starting XI tonight, he was no longer on set-pieces.

Considering that 0.56 of his 0.84 xA total had arrived from dead-ball situations, it is a blow for his owners, though it is worth noting that he did take them back on once the Serb had departed on 72 minutes, which is something to monitor moving forward.

Conor Gallagher’s touch heatmap v Brighton and Hove Albion in Gameweek 6

“The players are as disappointed as I am, the fans too. To concede a goal like that with the last kick is difficult to accept. We have to look at the game and how difficult we made it for them. They’re a good side with a lot of confidence. We should take the three points.

We gave them so many problems. The way they played the last 15 minutes with long balls doesn’t look like them. Not scoring the second goal left the door open. That was an important moment for us. It was a tough game. Both teams didn’t create much.

We are improving. We’re getting stronger. The first few games we played against Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham, we managed to create chances. We deserve to have more points so far. We’re in a good process.” – Patrick Vieira

FOUR IN SIX FOR MAUPAY

Neal Maupay’s (£6.5m) late equaliser was his fourth Premier League goal of the season, as he moved up to fifth in the forward standings after picking up three bonus points.

Graham Potter lined his troops up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, but switched to a back four in the second-half in an attempt to get back into the game.

However, despite that change of shape, they generally didn’t do enough in the final-third, though there was real quality about their late equaliser, with Joel Veltman (£4.4m) sending the ball through to Maupay, who dinked it over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Interestingly, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) bagged a bonus point despite conceding and picking up a late yellow-card, having created a big chance for Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) in the first-half.

Further forward, the influential Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) missed tonight’s match with a knee injury. It’s fair to say the Seagulls missed his energy and ability to break up play in midfield, with further updates expected in the coming days over his availability for Gameweek 7.

As a result of the draw, Brighton remain undefeated in all three of their Premier League away matches this season, with Arsenal (h) up next before the international break.

C Palace XI: Guaita, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Milivojevic (Kouyate 72), McArthur, Gallagher, Ayew (Schlupp 86), Zaha, Edouard (Benteke 72)

Brighton XI: Sanchez, Duffy, Dunk, Burn (Alzate 45, Moder 65), Veltman, Gross, Lallana, Cucurella, Trossard, Welbeck (Connolly 76), Maupay

I'm trying to focus less on price changes this season.
Mostly because I still don't fully understand how it works.
I mean Saul is 0.2% owned yet has dropped twice in 3 weeks (I know it's the volume of net transfers in/out) but twice seems a bit much.

Benny up 0.6 since the start of the season. Great for team value and not bad for a player that rarely shoots in the box.

Well that's my worst GW since I started taking this seriously over.

This week Shaw, Traoare out. Big decisions are Cancelo v Alonso, and if Raphinha not fit, then who? Going to be triple Liverpool against Man City which isn't pretty but so be it.

Depends on your bench. If you have cover, would go Alonso. I then like Christensen over Rudiger, for cash reasons.

If you are playing with mainly 11, go Rudiger.

I'm considering this, could be gold and Ronaldo should keep ticking along in place of Lukaku. Problem is it pushes you out of a city defender though

Yes, I feel strange if replacing Ronaldo with Lukaku. For city defender, I can still play 4 at the back (3 che + 1 mcy + 1 4.0-4.2)

Any feedback on my WC team?

    Ramsdale
    TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger, Alonso
    Salah, Grealish, Raphina, Benrahma
    Lukaku, Antonio

    Foster, Armstrong, Brownhill, Liveramento

Armstrong good bench cover for when Alonso/Cancelo get rotated, also gives me good team structure. Grealish a punt with their fixtures and Benrahma I’ve had since start and have no need to drop him.

Only issue is having 4 players in the Liverpool vs City game this weekend.

    Cheers

      2 years, 6 months ago

Waiting as I want 3 City players in GW8 and not a good fixture to bring them this week, also worried about the injuries and Quarantine issues during the IB.But with that Rudiger rise am already 0.1 short of my preference WC draft, only D.Luiz to Brownhill is now possible with that Rudiger rise.

I want to hold Ronaldo this week and sell next week on WC to spread the cash a bit, can’t do that this week so will have to see a few price rises go by.

Don’t want City this week but will next week, don’t want Liverpool this week really against City but happy to hold them next week.

When considering all this then the best time for my WC is next week, and I value that more that a few price changes tbh

White upside is still probably 6 points with occasional bonus - first time against his former team will be fun
Jota to Raph based on fixtures as long as he's good to go and you have a plan to use the extra funds

I'd say not very flexible and lack of options around some of the players in those price points
eg: who could you swap Christensen Marcal too if needed. Doucoure Gallagher one is probably a longer term play but possibly not both. Seems you'd need to remove one of Lukaku Ronaldo to have a more balanced team. Do you have any plans to bring in City player or a more attacking Chelsea defender?

  11. OLEgend

Went from 14k to 106k in last 2 GWs, trusted Barnes to deliver looking at the fixtures and not owning Raphinha and Sarr has backfired. Realised that it's more about damage limitation and should have brought in those 2, was unlucky with Jota's points in last 2 weeks as well,he could have easiled hauled in last 2 matches.

    b. Cancelo

    1. Alonso
    2. Rudiger

    Which pairing would you pick?

B2 the popular pick around here
      A2 the more 'stable' pick
Probably no wrong combination with upcoming fixtures so trust your FPL gut

Currently, who is Cancelo fighting off that City LB? Little KDB is still injured and Mendy is out

Totally fair. Zinchenko injured but hardly a battle. Last year was different as Cancelo alternated between left and right back.
Do you think there’s much in it between Dias and Cancelo?
Maybe Dias less chance of a cameo

I think attacking returns is the reason why many will want to get Cancelo rather than Dias if Cancelo was 100% nailed he would be in most teams squad..

No, Jorginho is 1st choice. He might be second choice but not sure.

    Would you wildcard gw8?

    Sanched Foster
    TAA Rudiger White Livramento Tsimikas
    Salah Raphinha Benrahma Sarr Gray
    Ronaldo Lukaku 4.5

No. You already have two CHS and just two to boot.

Probably not, who would you bring in that you don't already have now?

Watched a few Scoutcast recently and no one seems sure on which two CHS defenders to bring in.

I think Alonso and Rudiger looks best. I am also wondering if Cancelo is a better bet alongside one CHS defender.

    Thoughts?

What formation are you playing, 4 or 3atb?

3 normally but I have White and Livra so sometimes play 4. TAA, Christensen and Semado the other 3.

    2. Gabbiadini

I am going for Rudiger and Cancelo, personally.

Yes I favour this too. I am going possibly Christensen and Cancelo. Christensen looks reasonably nailed for me and you save 0.5 which is really handy.

Currently has Alonso, Rudiger and James.

If James injured, may probably get Dias/Cancelo.

    Sanchez Foster
    TAA Livra Coady Shaw White
    Salah Jota Greenwood Ben Torres
    Antonio Lukaku Scarlett

Thinking Shaw > Rudiger for my FT.
Who should I bring in for Torres for -4? Sarr just for a week for -4 doesn't seem like the best idea right?

    Any other moves here?

Got 2FT, but may try take 2 in to the break. Best move?

    A) Shaw to Rudiger
    B) Jota to Saka

Ings for sure or you could always keep both and forget about Lukaku.

Does he really have great fixtures? Spurs will look to tighten things up, they also have Arsenal who look decent defensively, and Westham and Wolves too in the next 4.

Is it Chelsea or is someone like Brentford superior?

Pretty Set on this WC team, have 0.5ITB, any suggestions for using it? Happy to leave it ITB as well.

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Cancelo Alonso Rudiget Livra
    Salah Raph Sarr Saka Luiz
    Lukaku Antonio ASM

This team is great for flexibility, can be a 442, 433, or 343 with 12 strong starters incase of injuries and tough fixtures.

    Thoughts appreciated - Cheers.

Looks good. My concern would be the top heavy D and the lack of depth in midfield which traditionally score more points.

Yes usually i would agree too, but the premium mids dont look too good apart from Salah. Saka, Sarr, Raph, Benny, and other cheaper options like Gallagher, ESR, Everton trio look fantastic value. Going with 3 budget mids gives gives me the option to swich them around if needed. All with a strong base of premium defs.

        Cheers for your response!

      Looks great on paper
As is the case with a lot of wc teams, this team has scored very well in recent weeks so as long as you think majority will continue their form then g2g
