Sell Ronaldo for Lukaku in Gameweek 7? What FPL managers are thinking

A favourable fixture swing for Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) going into Gameweek 7 has seen the Belgian attract around 175,000 new Fantasy Premier League (FPL) at the time of writing.

The Blues rise to the top of our Season Ticker for the medium term, with their next five league matches, in particular, standing out:

For those FPL bosses keen on Lukaku, how to acquire him is the next dilemma.

A ‘three premium’ set-up means that Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) wouldn’t have to be sold to accommodate the Belgian, although that would require considerable sacrifices elsewhere.

For those with space for only two heavy hitters, then it might be a case of ditching the top-scoring Fantasy asset, Mohamed Salah (£12.6m), and reallocating funds up top, or, more likely, offloading Ronaldo in a like-for-like swap.

The veteran Portuguese is the second most-sold forward of Gameweek 7 so far, with just over 100,000 transfers out at the time of writing.

We delve into the responses from both our on-site poll and Hot Topic to see what the Fantasy Football Scout community is thinking.

    A) Vardy
    B) Auba
    C) Jesus
    D) Jiminez

    Jiminez affords bigger spending elsewhere

      If pressed I'd go B over A

But that is based on Palace away and to a less extent Brentford away not being as green as portrayed for Vardy and the fact I can afford Auba but not him 🙂

4 home fixtures in next 6 for Arsenal the other rationale

First off, this is not a dig at you Pancake, it's more a general comment....

I really find these 'good to go?' posts the most tedious things on here. We have no idea if you've already made a transfer, played your WC or still have FTs in place, so what are you looking for here?

People should ask specific questions and provide facts to help us help you. This was everyone learns and can benefit from the advice of people on here with experience.

Good to go posts are pointless imo

Sorry, had to get that off my chest

Interesting how the sentiment around TAA seems to have shifted. Of course he missed one game and there are question marks over his fitness for this weekend, but a few weeks ago there was no question whatsoever that he was a season keeper and undroppable for any game or run, one of the very few players (if not the only player) regarded as such in FPL by many. But now it seems like a lot more people are considering moving him on for a while or at least having doubts about how essential he is. Liverpool haven't looked incredibly secure defensively so far, Alisson bailed them out with a triple save against Norwich and a few good saves against Burnley and Palace, and Chelsea were pretty comfortable against them until James' red card. Now they've conceded a few in one match (and it might have been more) and have a couple of tricky fixtures ahead, the consensus seems to have changed a bit.

I imagine the consensus on Rudiger will also change when Chelsea concede a couple of goals and he gets nowhere near baps. Their defence has been under much more pressure this season typically than last. It was not just the Liverpool match but Villa too.

Indeed, I didn't get to catch the whole game live but if not for Watkins being wasteful and Mendy having a great game that could have been a much closer game. I think it shows that, for as good as Alonso has been at times, they really need someone like Chilwell to be available and at his best for games like that and City

basically no player is season keeper. have to chop and change if and when required.

Completely agree, especially for those with a premium price. I'll admit I've been lucky after I moved him on in my GW4 WC with him being unwell once and then the 1 pointer last week but the signs were there that they were vulnerable at the back (even against Leeds who were very poor against them, Bamford a number of times easily got into space between VVD and Matip or Robertson)

I think he has reached at a height where CS is just a bonus for him, we have him solely for attacking returns. Someone posted that he has 88(CS, Goal, Assist) returns in 101 games till date which is pretty high.

Current situation does allow to drop him for few weeks though with Man City and Chelsea defender looking good. But what are we going to do with the cash?

I think you raise a good point. For me, I was/am definitely one of those people who was preaching that TAA is a solid block in a team and it ought to stay that way for the reason.

It kind of boils down to this, the moves you make need to improve your starting 11. If there's a chance that TAA is injured for a game or two, it'll make sense for people to be shifting towards selling, selling doesn't mean you won't re-buy at some point but TAA could faciliate two Chelsea defenders with the spare cash generated,

and cash is fairly tight right now.

Speak for yourself - I have around 4 million burning a hole in my pocket 😉

If you are tight for cash then there is the danger of glossing over a rather important issue. TAA is the hardest defender to buy as he is the most expensive in the game. One transfer can become three transfers quite easily - I speak from experience here - without money itb he requires two FTs to bring in.

Sellable for sure of course - really comes to down to bench options and general set up

This is partly why the whole 'season keeper' idea doesn't hold water. It's perfectly fine to ditch any player. We have transfers.

    Gameweek 8 Wildcard draft. Thoughts?

    Sanchez
    VVD Cancelo Alonso
    Salah(C) Grealish Gray Gallagher

Double take to see Grealish over Antonio - otherwise loverly.

Might be a time for the Grealish Antonio switcheroo but seems premature to ditch him now. Started the season as a doubter but the form is too undeniable.

I agree. Just banking on City GW 8-10 score more than West Ham. It could definitely backfire.

If I have Antonio instead of Aubameyang I have lots more to play with but nobody in the midfielder I like. Son perhaps the only intriguing one.

      C probably.

I only think you need one Chelsea defender.

I want to leave one attacking slot open. Those fixtures are so good that in the next 2 weeks one of the Chelsea mids might emerge - Ziyech, Mount, Kovacic even and I want that flexibility.

If I go double defense it will be double City def.

It's rather hilarious how Spurs and Arsenal have completely flipped roles.

Nuno won manager of the month in August. Spurs have since let in 9 goals and lost 3 on the bounce.

Arsenal were completely sunk after letting in 10 goals with 3 defeats on the bounce in August. Since then, they have won 3 on the spin and Arteta looks like he'll be named manager of the month in September.

    B. Coady/Ron to Rudiger/Lukaku.

You're benching Coady at home to Newcastle?

      I don't understand your moves.

I'd look at something similar to what I'm planning - TAA, Jota, Bamford > Alonso, ESR, Lukaku -4

      And then WC next week.

Nope. I’d play him if I have him.

I think TAA is a season keeper. Jota for a while too. But appreciate the message mate.

It doesn't matter if he's a season keeper or not if you WC next week. You can buy him back. If you don't have WC it's trickier.

I have had Grealish since GW1, is it time to move him on? or are his underlying stats too good to ignore?

Top of the table with 446 Points.
1FT. Just 1.6m in the bank.

    Sanchez

    TAA Rudiger Coady

    Salah Jota Sarr Raphinha

    Ronaldo Antonio Saint-Maximin

    (Steele Ayling Allan Williams)

    A. Coady - Cancelo or Alonso
    (Note. Leaves 0 itb).

    B. Do I get rid of Raphinha - Saka or Benrahma

Is TAA as an expensive defender regarded as a 'heavy hitter'?

Or is that only true for attacking players 11+million

    1. Fulchester's New Centr…
      • 6 Years

Certainly a premium, I've captained a couple of times over the years (TC once), but not normally in the conversation so maybe not a heavy-hitter..., but maybe he is.

    2. Andy_Social

As he pretty much matches that price-set for points over a season, he's fairly described as a 'heavy'hitter'.

    Rate my wildcard please

    Ramsdale / Foster
    White / Cancelo / Alonso / Rudiger / Livra
    Salah /Raph /Sarr / Biss. / Brownhill
    Lukaku / Ronaldo / Antonio

    It's 4-3-3
Later I will reduce Ronaldo and upgrade one mid and being in TAA (I am ready to risk going without TAA for the next three fix)

      8 - I'd lose Ron now

I have both Lukaku and Ronaldo. They both blanked GW6 and it was like having the worst sh*ts ever seeing two players combined 24m which could end up ruining many other GW's points wise.

Fact is, GW6 will not be the only GW both blank.

Go with either Lukaku or Ronaldo. Gives you the opportunity to add another mid priced midfielder upgrading Bissouma and adding a 3rd decent forward or upgrading Rudiger to TAA instead so forth.
