Scoutcast: Best Wildcard picks for FPL Gameweek 7

Joe and Andy are here to help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 7.

Many FPL managers are looking to Wildcard this week, as Chelsea begin their kind run of games and the current template looks in need of a shake-up.

The Scoutcast community team, which the crew are managing on behalf of a top 100 manager who has to dip out of the game this year for health reasons, is in particular need of an autumn refresh.

Our Scoutcast duo use this as an opportunity to frame their chat around the best options to bring in this week and to tackle the key issues Wildcarders and non-Wildcarders alike are facing.

Attacking defenders top the bill in this chat. Should FPL managers double up on Manchester City’s rearguard or Chelsea’s backline? And what of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), who may miss this weekend’s clash between Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s troops?

Midfield and forward options are also considered, as is the best formation to opt for into October and beyond.

Key to this is whether to opt for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) now or stick with Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) for another Gameweek or two.

Maverick managers looking to think outside of the Twittersphere may be intrigued by Joe’s ‘unfashionable picks’ table, which makes its first appearance of the season.

There are also fixtures to frisk, differentials to consider, teams to reveal and captaincy issues to ponder.

This show also features an intriguing bandwidth tussle between Andy’s internet and the rest of his family’s decision to watch Channel 4’s Bake Off. Joe is left to cook up some tasty stats and chew on the community’s questions on his own at a couple of points while Andy grabs a pasty and reconnects his West Country broadband.

This week’s episode was aired live via YouTube on Tuesday 28 September. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future live episodes. It is also available as a podcast.

I’ve gone with Alonso purely because his ceiling is so high, but safest bet is Rudiger.

Rudiger feels safest pick, but I'd try and go for both him and Alonso, esp if you're on a WC.

    Hi all,

Is this WC draft too much of a bench headache?

Probably going to limp to next week before pulling trigger anyhow, but asking as I've exact coin for it, which means it'll be out of reach very soon! Thanks.

    Ramsdale/Foster
    TAA, Rudiger, Alonso, Cancelo, Liva
    Raph, Salah, Saka, Sarr, Brownhill

I’m facing a similar issue as well, that’s why I’m almost leaning towards going with either Mendy or Ederson in goal and replacing a city/Chelsea defender with a 4.5 defender and playing 3atb with say (Ederson/Mendy TAA, Chelsea, City 4.5, Livra) every week, this also gives me the option to play 4atb if the budget defender has a good fixture, if that makes sense. But I like your side as is tbh, Jimenez can become say DCL later if you feel the need to downgrade elsewhere

      No it is very good.

With injuries and rotation and livra and brownhill for emergencies that would do well through the christmas period too with a squad like that

    TAA - Ayling - Shaw - White - Tsimikas!

WC still left so tempted to get rid of TAA for Rudiger/Alonso this week

Same defence here besides Livra for Tsimi. Hoping I can at least put out a backline of Rudiger/Alonso - White - Ayling and hold off the WC until 8.

Same defence, but already did early transfer - Shaw to Rudiger. Now just hoping for healthy Ayling or Tsimikas playing over TAA. But it will be Milner probably.

  10. FOO FIGHTER
    • 4 Years

    My view.

I do not see any reason to have Raphina over Doucoure tbh.

Doucoure is racking up Bonus points, scoring goals and providing assists. Some might say Doucoure has had easier fixtures but points are what matter 🙂

    1. Harry the Hack
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 6 months ago

And those points that matter were due to 'some might say' easier fixtures. He's had Soton, Leeds, BHA, Burnley, AVL, Norwich. It really doesn't come much easier.

      Stats say you're wrong.

Raphinha shoots a lot, creates chances and takes set pieces. He's everything you want from an FPL asset as long as he's fit.

What move would you prioritise here?

    Sanchez
    TAA*, James*, Semedo
    Salah, Jota, Raphinha, Doucoure
    Ronaldo, Antonio, Jimenez

    Steele; White, Sissoko, Livramento.

    1 FT 1.0 ITB

I quite like the idea of holding on to James if he's going to be back in GW8 or 9. I don't see any massive upside in any of the other Chelsea defenders over him but it leaves me light at the back this week with Trent out.

Haha fair enough. James to another Chelsea defender is definitely an option this week I'm just a bit worried that any of them could get a rest if they start against Juve tonight. Chalobah, Chilwell and Hudson-Odoi waiting in the wings.

I have TAA and James, leaning towards playing White and Livramento over taking a hit but James > Alonso is tempting.

      1. I Member
        • 8 Years

I'm totally fine playing White this week. Livramento less so but Saints did keep it tight against United and City and he does have attacking threat so it's probably okay.

Just not sure about swapping James to another Chelsea defender when he could be back in a week or two. Seems like a bit of a waste of a transfer.

James to Rudiger. See what is happening with Jota after IB, look to upgrade Semedo to James / Alonso after IB by downgrading Jota, or Ronaldo to Lukaku.

    A - Shaw > Rudiger and save 1 FT
    B - Shaw & Bruno > Rudiger & Raph
    C - Other option?

    Sanchez
    TAA - Shaw - Coufal - Duffy
    Salah - Bruno - Benrahma - Doucoure
    CR7 - Antonio

    Foster - Livra - Gilmour - Perica
