Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a one-match ban?

Those who keep an eye on the Suspension Tightrope widget on our homepage will be aware that the yellow cards are steadily racking up for several Premier League players.

The respite provided by the October international break seems like a good time to take stock of the disciplinary situation around the top flight, particularly as two Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) are now just a booking away from a ban after only seven Gameweeks of 2021/22.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19 league fixtures (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those Fantasy Premier League assets already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have a long way to go before they are in the clear, then.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Sarr underlines differential potential as Chelsea earn another clean sheet 3

The two players who are currently a solitary yellow card away from suspension are Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis (£5.3m) and Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp (£4.5m).

Budget forward Dennis is the big name from an FPL perspective, sitting in over 10% of squads.

Those four bookings haven’t come out of the blue, either: he has committed more fouls (20) than any other Premier League player this season.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

 1

There are some notable names among the throng of players on three bookings, too.

Paul Pogba (£7.8m) is the most selected, boasting an FPL ownership of 21.4% at the time of writing.

The Frenchman is behind only Dennis for fouls conceded in 2021/22, with 16.

Brighton defender Joel Veltman (£4.4m), bench fodder option Josh Brownhill (£4.5m) and the game’s joint-third highest-scoring midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.6m) are part of this group, too.

The full list is as follows:

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

FPL Gameweek 7 Scout Picks built on Chelsea triple-up

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after 19 league fixtures.

For all teams, that currently means following the completion of Gameweek 19 on Boxing Day.

Chelsea’s involvement in the Club World Cup in December would presumably cause the Blues to have a Blank Gameweek, however, and would likely push their 19th league fixture back – although there are suggestions the tournament could be moved to February.

And any other Premier League postponements, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, would naturally change the situation further.

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Working OK for me on Android in Chrome or Samsung. Strange not working on train network or your mobile data. Possibly train seeing at as a gambling site and blocking it. The phone is same for both networks. Close all open apps, browsers and disconnect anything to phone and try FPL again or same after shutdown or restart. Will surely be fine when you step off the train though!

Is Benrahma still a decent FPL option? Saw the highlights vs Brentford. Looked pretty good and came close to scoring a couple times.
Looking to let Antonio go and bring him in as my 4th mid. Allows me to bring in Jimenez for Antonio(rather than have both), Toney as 3rd striker and use the funds elsewhere.

Initial plan if I don't decide to WC. Sounds too crazy? Wouldn't I be left behind?
0.1 short for Greenwood to Foden...

    GW8: Greenwood to Arsenal/Everton mid
    GW9: Ronaldo to Lukaku
    GW10: Benrahma to Mbeumo
    GW11: Sarr to Son

    Sanchez/Steele
    TAA/Cancelo/Rudi/Duffy/Tsim
    Salah/Greenwood/Benrahma/Raphinha/Sarr
    Ronaldo/Antonio/Scarlet

In December Chelsea go to the World club cup and Afcon starts in Jan. Add in Christmas rotation and this would be a good time for wholesale team changes.

Here's my whack at WC. How's it looking?

    Ramsdale - Foster
    Dias - Cancelo - Rudiger - Duffy - Livra
    Salah - Son - Raph - ESR - Luiz
    Lukaku - Jimi - Antonio

Have two issues but overall I kind of like it.
    - No TAA.
    - Need to play one of ESR, Duffy or Livra every week.

Well, not ideal too but you need to give up someting to get Son.

Very similar to my team. I think you have slightly more money though. I’ve got TAA, Townsend and Toney for your Dias, Raphina and Jimenez. Whilst I agree Raphina and Jimenez are good picks I’d prefer to have TAA.

Just been watching the Palace Leicester highlights back

Mitchell may yet become a thing 🙂 He really does look a proper wingback now and attacking returns look likely. Before yesterday he was second among budget defenders for touches in final third - that won't have got any worse.

Also playing a few draft games this year. Brentford defenders are all still on the market. That could change! In two jiffies Palace and Brentford will be very close to the top of the ticker especially if you delete tricky fixtures as obvious benchings.

That is almost exactly the same as Andy LTFPL's WC from last week. Boring. The big advantage of WC'ing this week compared to last is that you have better opportunity to go after City assets. Make use of that advantage.

        Which city assets tho?

Boring is generally good I suppose. But it literally is just Andy's team with TAA in for Azpilicueta.

Lots of people copy his team so you won't make much ground. At least try some areas to have some differentials. Could try someone like Watkins over Jimenez - fixtures are not that bad, he's got great stats. There's also Saka who I'm not very convinced is a great FPL asset. Both of those slots give you opportunity to differentiate and take some calculated risks.

Camzy I'm thinking the best front 3 are Vardy Lukaku and Antonio/Jimenez what do you think?

            Ramsdale
            Dias Cancelo Rudiger Azpi Livramento
Salah Mbeumo Benrahma Smith Rowe 4.4
            Lukaky Vardy Jimenez

Could not disagree more with this at this stage in the season. All about maximising points - if that's going boring and template then so be it. Can't understand why you'd want to find differentials for the sake of it.

You need 3 forwards they offer incredible value I'd pick 3 out of Lukaku,Vardy Antonio and Jimenez. I don't think TAA is essential anymore Liverpool's fixtures aren't that amazing so he shouldn't get many clean sheets. I rather Azpi over Chilwell as he's more nailed.

    WC Differentials I'm throwing around

    GK - McCarthy
    Def - Laporte, Chilwell, Walker
Mid - Foden, Mbeumo, Townsend, Mount, Mane
Fwd - Armstrong, Watkins, Bamford, Jesus

The rest I think are fairly highly owned on WC. Mbeumo starting to become template but his overall ownership is still less than 1.5%...
Not really considering any real differentials in defense tbh. Just variations on the standard Che/City options. The fixtures and their respective defenses are too good and Livramento is the best 5th defender by a million miles.

I'd lose Greenwood. Jota has started every game this season bar one and the last two with Firmino on the bench. I think Jota remains a pretty decent pick just unlucky to not have gotten returns.

Jota is interesting pick on WC. Started vs City so it suggest he may be first choice. Sadly he wont play 90min even if starts but will get more minutes than most City mids for example.

Yeah I dunno why I left him off. I have already had him in one of my drafts. The fact he's on Intl duty while Firmino isn't though is quite bad. Means he very likely doesn't start GW8 and then he has MUN after that.

Ducked Villa completely early season as they were in so much flux and the same may well still be true now as Buendia hasn't exactly featured heavily. An attack yet to come together for sure.

        Watchlist material only.

Unlike Holmes though I can see them putting 3 goals past most opposition. Rather think most of their upcoming oppo have been outperforming in defence. Not sure why WH is a red fixture for example for attack 😉

    Guys,
Would you wc this team? Bought Lukaku and Christensen in this week for a hit which didn't go too well!
    *potential transfers out

    Sanchez* Foster
    Shaw* Christensen* Ayling* White Livra
    Salah Raph Benrahma Sarr* Gilmour*
    Ronaldo* Lukaku Antonio

WC team would be something like (1.5 itb):
    Raya Foster
    TAA Cancelo Azpi James Livra
    Salah Raph Saka Mbuemo D.Luiz
    Lukaku Antonio A.Armstrong

Absolutely not. I'd go Sarr to Foden for free

Not got the money for that. Would need to downgrade CR7 to upgrade elsewhere, for a hit

Ah crap read your ITB wrong. See if Christiansen looks like he'll play closer to the time, that would be my deciding factor. If he does Sarr to Gray.

Cheers! I think a wc would definitely improve the team, but I don't think it is necessarily needed.

    1FT 0.5m ITB

    Sanchez Steele
    Shaw White Rudiger Livramento TAA
    Salah Jota Raph Sarr Gilmour
    Ronaldo Antonio ASM

    City defender the priority here?

    A) Shaw > Walker/Laporte
    B) Ronaldo > Lukaku
    C) Both (with Cancelo for Shaw) (-4)
    D) WC

Have both Antonio and Benhrama and don't think I want to double up any longer, which one to go for?

    a) Antonio > Hwang (use money to bulk up defense e.g. back line of Alonso, TAA, Rudiger, Cancelo)
    b) Benhrama > Foden

Any comments to this WC draft…?

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Rudiger Dias Cancelo Livramento
    Salah Jota Raphinha Mbeumo Gallagher
    Lukaku Antonio Hwang

Jota to Foden if you have any ITB. Benching headache each week with Gallagher and Hwang, I'd downgrade Hwang to 4.4.

First choice is Chilwell Rudiger T.Silva Azpi Reece

Everybody else who's started has done so due to the unavailability of someone in that first choice lineup, or due to rests

Christensen has gotten more starts than usual due to the T.Silva extended break at the start of the season, Reece red, and now Reece injury (pushing Azpi to RWB)

I'm thinking which one from Gray, Townsend, Doucouré, Saka and ESR to get so went to understat.com and checked the stats. Townsend really looks like a standout pick.

Worth a punt? Or go for Arsenal mid due to the fixtures?

    1. mgrea
      • 12 Years

      Gray
      Saka
      ESR - Townsend
      Doucoure

      In that order IMO

He's looking really good on the pitch. Gets rather unlucky with service to him sometimes, which doesn't reflect well in stats

Thoughts on this squad? Did Sissoko to Mbuemo with my 1Ft last night but probably shouldn't have rushed it.

    Sanchez
    Christensen Rudiger Matip Duffy
    Salah Raphinha Gray
    Lukaku Antonio Ronaldo

    Subs: Livramento, Mbuemo, Sarr

I have a deep squad at least if something goes wrong but expect lots of benching headaches down the line. The lack of a city defender could become an issue

I'd have done Sarr to Mbuemo last night leaving more MITB to upgrade Christensen to City D. Can you do Christensen to Dias or Cancelo now ?

    What to do with Torres?
With Aguero leaving, you would expect him to get more game time.
Hasn't started in the last 3 GWs. But two of those were against top 4 opposition.

Do you see Chelsea keeping Brentford out?

Say, Rudiger over any of these:
TAA vs Watford, Cancelo vs Burnley, Duffy vs Norwich?

    1. GreennRed
      • 12 Years

Yes. Would play all 4. Can see Watford score in Ranieri's first game but Trent should get attacking points.

My attackers have good fixtures too. Well, they're playing defences who don't do clean sheets atm

So it's three of TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger, Tierney and Duffy. Meaning I should prioritise the worst attacks as opponents, right?

        1. GreennRed
          • 12 Years

That is up to yourself. Depends who your attackers are. The randomness says you might get 2 CS of that back 4 mentioned but one or two of the unCS fruendly opponents will keep a CS too. You've a nice backline there. White v Palace looks good too.

Brentford at home. They have only conceded 6 goals this season so they are not the worst team at the back.

I fancy them to keep a cleanie vs CHE. Got in Raya to play devils advocate ha ha.

Many say they fear going without Lukaku. I reckon Vardy outscores him GW8 to 12.

Players that play (plus likely those in the squad) for the Friday game won't play GW8 - think it's as simple as that

            2 years, 5 months ago

Pretty much this, the last fixture for some south American teams is like a day or two before the league games

Brazil and Argentinian players very very likely to miss the league games regardless of covid

Cheerd. Last game is not a friendly, thought they might be able to skip it, somehow, and just play 2. Will be down Martinez again but hopefully Foster keeps his place for a while.

em I dont think so, my team value is strong. I think my Def is now light though yes.

          Ramsdale
          Duffy Rudiger Shaw
          Gallagher Salah(c) Gray Benrahma
          Antonio Ronaldo Lukaku

          Foster Sarr Coady Livra

Selling either of them could free up funds to upgrade defence but defence isn't bad. Maybe Shaw and Gallagher to Cancelo and fodder?

If TAA is confirmed fit, will he be worth a -4 to play ahead of Livra or cresswell?!

      Will captain Kane regardless...
