Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a one-match ban?

Those who keep an eye on the Suspension Tightrope widget on our homepage will be aware that the yellow cards are steadily racking up for several Premier League players.

The respite provided by the October international break seems like a good time to take stock of the disciplinary situation around the top flight, particularly as two Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) are now just a booking away from a ban after only seven Gameweeks of 2021/22.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19 league fixtures (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those Fantasy Premier League assets already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have a long way to go before they are in the clear, then.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Sarr underlines differential potential as Chelsea earn another clean sheet 3

The two players who are currently a solitary yellow card away from suspension are Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis (£5.3m) and Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp (£4.5m).

Budget forward Dennis is the big name from an FPL perspective, sitting in over 10% of squads.

Those four bookings haven’t come out of the blue, either: he has committed more fouls (20) than any other Premier League player this season.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

 1

There are some notable names among the throng of players on three bookings, too.

Paul Pogba (£7.8m) is the most selected, boasting an FPL ownership of 21.4% at the time of writing.

The Frenchman is behind only Dennis for fouls conceded in 2021/22, with 16.

Brighton defender Joel Veltman (£4.4m), bench fodder option Josh Brownhill (£4.5m) and the game’s joint-third highest-scoring midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.6m) are part of this group, too.

The full list is as follows:

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

FPL Gameweek 7 Scout Picks built on Chelsea triple-up

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after 19 league fixtures.

For all teams, that currently means following the completion of Gameweek 19 on Boxing Day.

Chelsea’s involvement in the Club World Cup in December would presumably cause the Blues to have a Blank Gameweek, however, and would likely push their 19th league fixture back – although there are suggestions the tournament could be moved to February.

And any other Premier League postponements, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, would naturally change the situation further.

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

Had Sanchez since the start but now switching to Ramsdale on my WC. Should I transfer White to Duffy? Neither would be in my starting XI. Duffy has higher chance of attacking returns and avoids any potential double up with arsenal defence. My only real concern with Duffy is how nailed he is longer term.

Providing there's no injuries I'm going to do Gallagher to Gray. Really like the look of Everton's fluid attack and Gray keeping his form seems more likely than Doucoure to me. Thoughts?

I'm not sure how many Wildcards are in play, but I often find it a good exercise to think about what my ideal Wildcard would be; it helps me clarify what I like about my team, what I don't like, and what direction I want to go.

What's the structure you'd go for, and who would be close to a lock if you are/were WCing?

    For me, something like this:

    4.5/5.0 4.0
    TAA Rudiger Dias Tierney Livramento
    Salah Raphinha x x x
    Lukaku Antonio x

Rudiger and Dias could be other options from those teams, but otherwise that's pretty close to what I want. Then it's about seeing what's left and filling those last 4 spots. I'd go with one 4.5m option in the front 8, as I have a strong defence that can cover absences.

What does, or would, your ideal WC right now look like in terms of the key or pillar picks you'd make?

    1. Alisson WondHaaland
      • 8 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

      Mine would be:
      4.5 4.0
      TAA Rudiger Cancelo x Livramento
      Salah Raph Mbeumo x 4.5
      Lukaku Antonio x

The structure Id want is to be able to rotate between a 433 and 343 where I can either play the 4th defender or Mbeumo

Good post. I'm sorely tempted by a 4-3-3/5-2-3 model. The value looks to be in defence at the moment until some more premium mids/atts emerge.

      Ramsdale (Foster)
      TAA Cancelo Laporte Rudiger (White)
      Salah Raphinha Doucoure/Gray (Mbeumo Luiz)
      Lukaku Antonio Jimi

      1. Pegboy

Or really lean into it and upgrade Raph>Son

        Ramsdale (Foster)
        TAA Cancelo Rudiger White (Livramento)
        Salah Son Mbeumo/Doucoure (4.5 4.5)
        Lukaku Antonio Jimi

Would mean a lot of Mbeumo/Doucoure, which I'm not quite ready for yet.

          Essentially

          a) Raphinha + Laporte
          b) Son + White (weaker bench)

When I put it like that, b looks clear winner...

Yeah, big choices incoming! The thing about a consistent 4 or 5 at the back is it's a bit of work to shift funds when we inevitably want to. For me, I want one City, one Chelsea, TAA, and then I'll keep Tierney who's a great option lots of weeks but I can bench if I want to

I've taken hits to get my post-WC squad close to where I want it to be long-term. I now just need to freshen up my goalkeeper and make 2 more transfers in defence (2 from City/Chelsea).

I'm looking at ending up with something like

      Raya
      TAA, Rudiger, Azpili, Cancelo, Livramento
      Salah, Raphinha, xxx, xxx, 4.5
      Lukaku, Antonio, xxx

The 3 'xxx' spots are where my transfers would look at form 'n' fixtures, the rest being season-keepers unless injuries and serious lack of form suggests changes.

Yeah very strong I like this. I can understand the double Chelsea but I don't think I'll go quite there. But the different between us is really just Azpi vs Tierney and a bit of money, so we essentially agree

      I'm on Wildcard.

I have like 10/15 slots done.

      Ramsdale Foster
      Chilwell Duffy Livramento XX XX
      Salah Raphinha Brownhill XX XX
      Lukaku Antonio XX

Chilwell being a lock is a bit strange to some, but he's one of the cheapest Chelsea defenders, has no England duty and played well despite conceding the penalty. His upside is so large for that price with those fixtures I want him in and can cover him with Duffy, Livra.

Those last slots will be worked on for the next 2 weeks. Will likely depend on injury updates on TAA, quarantine and any other random things the IB brings up.

Totally crazy to mention this with the upcoming Chelsea fixtures, but I am starting to wonder how essential Lukaku is. Chelsea have scored 12 goals in the PL games since Lukaku has arrived and Rom has only 3 involvements. No doubt Chelsea are going to score goals and Rom will get some, but I wonder if he is essential given that the Chelsea goals seem to be shared between the team. Having said this he will be in my team when Chelsea play Norwich.

The fixtures are to good to ignore him so he will be in my team for Norwich, but I do believe Chelsea will share the goals around the team much like City. I just wonder further down the line someone like Son who has a higher goal involvement for their team will be a better option. Lukaku is essential for me now but I am holding my WC as I think the dynamic will shift latter in the season and I would not be surprised if the big midfield options stand out against the forwards as they have done for the last few seasons (Kane last year as the exception).

I've avoided Ronaldo and just brought Lukaku in this week purely because the fixtures were giving me the fear if I left him out, but eye test wise I can see me ending up with a front 3 of Bamford/Watkins, Antonio and Vardy soon lol! Deja vu.

I think the question will be a big forward or having another big mid. If Nacho gets regular starts for Leicester now (and he should) I think a mid priced forward and big midfielder will be worth more points in the long run. But the fixture swings for Ronaldo and Lukaku is tempting. It could also be distracting us from the obvious choice of just perma captain Salah.

      My current WC team

      Ramsdale, Foster
      TAA, Rudiger, Cancelo, White, Livra
Salah, Son, Townsend, ESR, D Luiz
      Lukaku, Antonio, Toney

From a small change perspective I might switch:
      Cancelo to Dias
White to Duffy (or another cheap defender)
      Townsend to Gray or Doucoure

The big change would be Son to a City midfielder (maybe Grealish or Foden) and then use the change to upgrade Townsend to Raphina.

      Ramsdale Foster
      TAA Azpi Rudiger Cancelo Livra
      Salah Raph Saka Gallagher DouglasLuiz

Plan to play 433 most weeks, with 3 credible subs.

I think Antonio - with his upcoming fixtures - would not be a dead cert in my team. All others would be, yes.

I would throw Douglas Luiz in there as the perfect 4.5mid. Beyond that, just leave those spots down to form+fixture combinations. I.e jimenez or even hwang

Current draft - ignoring West ham now as I feel they might regress and not convinced enough quality behind Jimi to warrant a spot up front for him so...Jesus is looking the best he ever had and IF need be i can pivot from him to a number of cheaper forwards as and when needed. Vardy is being overlooked.

      Sanchez
      Rudiger White Trent
      Saka Salah Raphina Townsend
      Vardy Lukaku Jesus

      Sanchez Foster
      Cancelo Rudiger Azpi Tierney Livramento
      Salah Raphinha Gallagher
      Ronaldo Lukaku Antonio

Galager might become Mbeuno next GW. If I have the need to escape from 5.5 Midfileder either then Everton Mids/Galager or Mbeuno, considering moving to 5 defenders with a 5.5 like Matip/Digne or any other.

      Salah x x Mbeumo Brownhill
      Lukaku Antonio x

I think I've got maybe 5 slots to decide and even those are pretty narrowed down, for example for defs it'll probably be 2 from:

      TAA, Tierney, Azpi, Dias

For mids, likely to be Raphinha + a punt (could keep Jota, maybe one of the City boys)

And highly likely to be Toney up top

Feels like my rank is going to get a hiding GW8 taking a -12 for Mendy, Gallagher, Lukaku > Raya, Son, DCL but I am very happy with my team now and do not expect to take hits for many weeks to come, well.. Also did Williams, Ronaldo > Cancelo, Vardy with 2FT's.

Dropped from 959k without any hits to 976k with 42 point this week so wanted to turn up the heat with some bold moves. Either going to pay off or give me a bloody nose.

Happy to be rid of Lukaku and Ronaldo tbf giving me 15 points over the last 3 GW's.

    Raya
    Trent Cancelo Matip
    (S)alah Gray Son Doucoure
    Antonio Vardy DCL

Agree on shipping out Ronaldo based on fixtures.
However, I think it is madness getting rid of Lukaku in the last three games he played Spurs, M City and Southampton. Only the latter was a disappointment.
Lukaku has a lovely run up coming and Mount will be back. Norwich soon as well.
Vardy?? I had him early season his fixtures seem more mixed though. He is in form though and on pens.
Vardy and Lukaku and Toney would be my three going forward if I had a choice.

    Sanchez
    TAA James Marcal
    Salah Raphinha Saka Gray
    Ronaldo Antonio Toney

    (4.0 Livramento Semedo Sissoko)
    1 FT & 3.2m

Definitely doing Marcal ➡️ Cancelo for free.

If James is still injured or Raphinha isn't starting worth taking a hit for Semedo to Dias/Chilly/Azpi/Rudi?

Not ideal starting Livra (LEE) or Semedo (avl) though this week. A hit for Chelsea/City def surely pays off long term.

Have other transfers planned for following weeks so I doubt I'll be able to do it for free.

Which Keeper combo is best to own (either 2x £4.5m or £5m + Foster)

current thoughts are Ramsdale & Sanchez

    1. Alisson WondHaaland
      • 8 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

Still think 4.5 + Foster is probably the best. Keeper hauls can be quite unpredictable (and often come in the harder fixtures) so prefer not to rotate them

I'm on Ramsdale + Foster on WC, but the rotation is v.poor.

Ramsdale + McCarthy is the best to cover Arsenals' tough fixtures in GW 12, 14, 15 & 21, but not sure it's worth the extra 0.5

      I need the 0.5m.

Ramsdale + Foster are locked unless Ramsdale gets injured in which case I'd buy McCarthy.

      Interesting. Why so?
Was thinking of dropping down to Armstrong for Southamptons turn of fixture and using the extra funds to get Foden up to Son (with some other tinkering), but the fixtures to GW15 are just too appealing!

Got okish 41(-4) with 9 players last week. Dropped to 550 k.
Christensen and b Williams didnt play and i Didn't have bench.

    Sanchez
    Trent christensen rudiger
    Salah sarr benrahma raphinha
    Antonio ronaldo jimenez
    Potential issues to solve :
    1. Raphinha misses gw8 ( allan comes for him)
    2. Christensen can be dropped Again ( buy cancelo)
    3. Start christensen and sell b Williams >cancelo
    4. Ronaldo to lukaku ( sideways move)

    Thoughts?

KdB is the most nailed City attacker.

But they don't have to be nailed on to be a good pick. Look at Gundogan last season.

I like Son, even started the season with him. But Spurs are soo inconsistent with Nuno and Kane going AWOL. Their short term fixtures are also kind of dodgy.

Saw some sparks of form from Spurs in the game vs Villa. This is the same Villa team that beat United the week before.

Also, saw a cool stat that Son is actually getting off more shots/90 than he was last season. I think he's very assured points. Price is a bit high but I would also be more confident of Son returning in any given week than any mid other than Salah.
