Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a one-match ban?

Those who keep an eye on the Suspension Tightrope widget on our homepage will be aware that the yellow cards are steadily racking up for several Premier League players.

The respite provided by the October international break seems like a good time to take stock of the disciplinary situation around the top flight, particularly as two Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) are now just a booking away from a ban after only seven Gameweeks of 2021/22.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19 league fixtures (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those Fantasy Premier League assets already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have a long way to go before they are in the clear, then.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Sarr underlines differential potential as Chelsea earn another clean sheet 3

The two players who are currently a solitary yellow card away from suspension are Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis (£5.3m) and Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp (£4.5m).

Budget forward Dennis is the big name from an FPL perspective, sitting in over 10% of squads.

Those four bookings haven’t come out of the blue, either: he has committed more fouls (20) than any other Premier League player this season.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

 1

There are some notable names among the throng of players on three bookings, too.

Paul Pogba (£7.8m) is the most selected, boasting an FPL ownership of 21.4% at the time of writing.

The Frenchman is behind only Dennis for fouls conceded in 2021/22, with 16.

Brighton defender Joel Veltman (£4.4m), bench fodder option Josh Brownhill (£4.5m) and the game’s joint-third highest-scoring midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.6m) are part of this group, too.

The full list is as follows:

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

FPL Gameweek 7 Scout Picks built on Chelsea triple-up

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after 19 league fixtures.

For all teams, that currently means following the completion of Gameweek 19 on Boxing Day.

Chelsea’s involvement in the Club World Cup in December would presumably cause the Blues to have a Blank Gameweek, however, and would likely push their 19th league fixture back – although there are suggestions the tournament could be moved to February.

And any other Premier League postponements, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, would naturally change the situation further.

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

This article is a timely reminder of a little detail that I so easily forgot during the maddening rush of this season's start

Why does Dennis need so many tackles as a winger, though? Pretty bad/careless fullback behind him, who he has to cover for?

Arsenal, AVL, Brentford, Livramento, Duffy will rank ahead of him for me, as guaranteed starters

He's 3rd choice in his position: Azpi > Christensen > Chalobah at RCB. Two players need to be rested or unavailable for him to start

Keep getting drawn to Ronaldo -> Jesus transfer.

He seems pretty nailed so far.
WC’d a couple weeks back, and I’ve slipped down the ranks considerably. Is this crazy?

Anything else to suggest as alternatives? Want rid of Gallagher as priority if not switching out Ronaldo. Could move him to Saka or Mbeuno.
Or even up Scarlett to Hwang which is in budget and bench Gallagher ?

Very confused as to what to do basically.

    Thanks

If you have Luka, then a punt on Jesus/Vardy/Toney/Jimenez is a decent shout. Hold Gallagher move for one more week and see how Arsenal performs vs Palace.

Jesus might not get to the GW8 match if he plays that last Brazil game. We don't know if there'll be a deal between Brazil FA and EPL clubs to avoid this, yet

Gallagher to Mbeumo can be a bit later, if you do bench him for Hwang

I'd stump up funds for Duffy over Manquillo. Luiz > Brownhill is 0.1m.

Otherwise it's quite decent. I like it. Wouldn't go for a currently injured player in DCL or Bamford out the door. Just would be so annoying to have them be an issue immediately. Prefer Watkins if punting on a mid-priced FWD. Jesus if you have the funds/the stomach for it.

Imagine winning the lottery once and then getting a job as a lottery pundit

Ranieri produced a miracle for a club that was (and is) managed perfectly by its board, and has been appointed to work miracles by much lazier or less ambitious/competent boards since, so it can't work until stars align again

That said, Moyes's second coming at West Ham has been amazing, even with the incompetent board. It just might be that what Ranieri needs is 100 players to choose from, and that's what Watford has

No longer true about the squad

Watford have sent everyone out on loan or given them free transfers. Look beyond the numbers of incomings and they were even less ambitious than Norwich in the transfer window.

The problem is nailed options but either of the midpriced options (Jesus, Grealish Foden) should provide value even with the odd no show. Arguably, they are underpriced too, too you can beef up your bench.

Yeah. Nothing's wrong on FFS now. They don't store our info on the site, so there was nothing for a hacker to see. The hacker's privacy leak message wasn't targeted at this site, just used it as a megaphone. All they could do was spam the comments with a modified error message

Different ways to play the game. Bruno first, then Ronaldo, both switched from essential to long-gone. The human mind loves to predict based on the most significant data point(s) from the past, rather than the difficulty and uncertainty of over 100+ factors involved

If you think it's time to sell Antonio, ditch him and don't look back for a while, as the fixtures will only get worse as you reconsider buying him

    4. Holmes

        Can't see Raphinha making it
But guess Livramento a decent bench player to come in for him as Leeds won't be great offensively without him given his 43% goal involvement

Blankuku vs Vardy over the next 5

      Next 5
      Lukaku: BRE(A), NOR(H), NEW(A), BUR(H), LEI(A)

      Vardy: MUN(H), BRE(A), ARS(H), LEE(A), CHE(A)

I am going with Mr Consistency either matching or beating Lukaku to points.

Good luck. It could well work. Personally I think Chelsea's fixtures are too good to go without Lukaku but at the same time I definitely encourage everyone to play their own game. If you want to back Vardy go for it.

Did you read the list you just typed?

Also, past points don't predict the future. The same blanker has scored thrice this season, and had the kind of fixture list that Vardy is about to go on, as their fixtures dovetail from GW8

        Are you predicting or reacting?

Of course I did and Vardy's fixtures are not bad at all plus there is the deciding fixture LEI vs CHE. Cannot see any cleanies in that one.

Lukaku's worst game, Brentford, is also in Vardy's fixture list

Every other defence there has been crap this season, including Leicester

Vardy is facing 4 good defences for goals conceded, and one bad defence which has recovered from its injury crisis

Again, are you predicting or reacting?

If current season, if he has a monster season the Messi/Ronaldo era is all but done so yeah he has a real chance Vs lewa

Depends on UCL and stuff ofc

Messi will likely win the 2021 which will be in November. 2022 winner Depends on World Cup and Ucl.

                          Yeah that's what I'm saying

If OP means can Salah win it this year I think yes he can because his competition will be Lewa more than Messi (french league + can't see psg winning champions League)

If he means current year Messi with Copa and Barca stats has already won it

Last year they should award lewa it, would be a shame if he gets 0

Not so much better as to what they did or won in 2021.

                  Jorginho, Kante, Lewandowski, Donnaruma, Chiesa.

Deserves it imo, his stats for a bang average Barca side and winning the copa tips him over lewas year for Bayern

However the year they didn't award the ballon d'Or was clearly lewandowskis so hopefully this year they rectify that and give him that one and Messi the 2021 one

Lewandowski deserves a Peter Canavan Ballon d'Or. Peter the Great is a famous gaelic footballer who was awarded an All Star award (team of the year) in his last year, even though he didn't deserve it. Just because he's a legend 🙂

Lewandowski deserves it though, but he mightn't get a better chance.

Even as a Messi fan it would leave a sour taste in the mouth if Lewa gets 0

They need to do the right thing and give him the one from the year they missed off, and then Messi this year's one. Joint celebration

Maybe just ignore January through March

                          And probably April

Actually probably best to ignore May as well

                          And the summer too

But I mean he’s scored against Norwich, Leeds, Brentford and Palace recently so yeah, give him the Balon D’or for sure 😆
