Meet the Manager – three-time top 10k finisher reveals his Gameweek 8 Wildcard

Joe meets another Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager with a stellar career record across the game.

This time around he meets Prasun Singhal, known as Pras among the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As well as finishing in the top 10,000 three times, including a top 5k finish, he has not ended a campaign lower than 100k in the last decade.

But after a strong start to the current season his team is losing rank fast and he has decided to press the Wildcard button.

Across this episode, Pras explains his strategies for success and tips for a strong finish. He also takes an honest look at his own FPL career to see how he could finish even higher up the rankings.

Pras explains how Fantasy Football content has been important to his strong finishes, with the Scoutcast and articles from FFScout a real help.

The FFScout Members’ Area Comparison Tool has been of particular use.

He also name-checks the array of Twitter posters and other podcasters that he has followed over the years to help him gain an advantage.

With his Wildcard in play, Pras takes us through the reasons for the players he has chosen as well as those vying for a place in his final XI.

Price points have been an important part of his strategy over the years and he explains how this is driving many of his decisions.

A strong spread of cash across all positions looks to be key to his thinking as is the value offered by assets from Brentford and Southampton in particular.

He also takes part in some future-gazing, when the template may alter even more radically from its current form. Could West Ham’s ‘season keeper’ striker Michail Antonio (£8.0m) even make way within the month?

The Meet the Manager series is where Joe chats to FPL managers with a strong record of success, an interesting view of the game and are offering the community a unique insight into Fantasy management.

His chat with Pras can be viewed below.

Really not sure whether to WC or not. If WC would probably take out Sanchez Alonso Greenwood Jota Ronaldo Benrahma Semedo to Ramsdale TAA Mbeumo Foden Saka Azpilicueta

But is it worth it - could just take -4 this week to get TAA if fit ( with Greenwood to Mbeumo to pay for it) and in week 9 get Lukaku

    A WC
B Save WC and take -4 this week

    Sanchez
    Alonso Rüdiger Cancelo
    Salah Greenwood Jota Raphinha Benrahma
    Ronaldo Antonio

    Foster Semedo Livramento Scarlett

You don’t need it… though similar players to what I had pre WC

I went for it on the basis of fixture swing… but tbh I can’t remember the last time a WC paid off for me in the short term

I remember last season holding it until the week before it expired, played it and scored about half as many points if I didn’t WC

I feel now or next IB is a good time to play it

Thanks - appreciate feedback. I should have played last week really as this team got me only 35 points - so perhaps due decent return!

No need for wc imo. Fingers crossed Ronaldo - who is more/less a differential now - will go big at Leicester.

Ronaldo 46% owned - hardly considered a differential!
        Lukaku currently 37% owned

Your team is decent already but sometimes there is never a time when you 'need' a wildcard but it does have an expiry date.

You can absolutely get by with the -4 but I say pull the trigger and do your housekeeping.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go

Thinking ahead to after the international break, just as food for thought.

What looks a better use a transfer?

    A. Jota to anybody up to 8.9
    B. Bench fodder keeper to
    McCarthy (BUR,wat,AVL,nor,LIV) to rotate with
    Sanchez(MCI,liv,NEW,avl,LEE)

Depends on rest of team but Jota could be good option v Watford and not keen on rotation of goalies. Brighton defence good and Sanchez could pick up save points v City and Liverpool and other fixtures OK i

      Mbeumo

    2. FPL Theorist

Will vary based on fixtures, but all else equal, Mbeumo probably edges it.

I was leaning to Mbeumo since he OOP but my worry is that he doesn't seem to like bonus points - he may need to score/assist quite a lot more than Douc to match his points?

        1. FPL Theorist
          • 4 Years

I guess we're just mostly sceptical that Doucoure can blow away his past numbers of around 5 G, 7 A max in a season. We could all be wrong though. He fits the profile of someone that FFS writes off as a "casual pick" because beginners with no preconceived notions go for him. Sort of like Ings when he did extremely well after starting the season at 6.0m.

Should be fairly close. Benitez is allowing the Everton mids to get forward and not just take up space but encouraging them to shoot - suspect this is not just because DCL + Rich are out.
Fixtures wise until gw19 I would take Mbeumo

    4. FOO FIGHTER
      • 4 Years

All three Townsend, Doucoure and Gray are being highly underated on here. They have been consistently good and value to the max.

Doucoure offers goals and assists plus is playing a more attacking role this season, hence his good start.

I would have him over Mbeumo.

    5. Hotdogs for Tea
      • 8 Years

I compared them both and the stats for Doucoure are impressive and he has a much higher bps profile.

For me Doucoure wins easily, if he generally matches goals or assists.

    Thoughts on my WC
    Ramsdale Foster
Rudiger Cancelo Tomiyasu T Silva Livramento
Salah ESR Raphinha Townsend D Luiz
    Ronaldo Antonio Lukaku

I could even do T Silva and D Luiz to Walker/Laporte and Brownhill

          • 4 Years

Yes, Iwobi will be a threat to Townsends spot but he is in form so his spot to loose.

          1. Athletic Nasherbo
            • 7 Years

Highly doubt Iwobi plays, Gordon displaced him. He is the threat probably, but Townsend next 2 should start. Can move to Mbuemo soon after for excellent fixtures, or Olise.

            1. FOO FIGHTER
              • 4 Years
              2 years, 5 months ago

Yes, unless Townsend keeps up his form.

I think Everton are going to be potent once DCL is back. Rondon is so bad and is what is hampering them. Benitez has got them playing some good attacking football.

              1. Athletic Nasherbo
                • 7 Years
                2 years, 5 months ago

It could be argued, that Rondon has helped Townsend in terms of goal threat - the stats suggest this too. DCL, of course, could play a similar role to Rondon, obviously far better and get the goals too whilst still playing in Benitez’s new system created to deal with DCL’s and Rich (less so) absence.

If Lukaku continue to troll, what would it take for you to sell him with those fixtures coming up?

I think for me if he doesn't score against bre or NOR, it would be hard to justify keeping him - not that I would know who to replace him with!!

    1. FOO FIGHTER

The clear replacement would be Vardy.

Nice fixtures from gw13. Would be good to see his output in recent years First half vs Second half of the season - feels like he tapers off as the season wears

Vardy not a fixture based player. He can turn any defence into mince meat.

Did not have his best season last time round but he has started well this season. Happy to have him GW8 vs UTD defence.

Even if he blanked against Brentford and Norwich there's no way I'd sell him before Newcastle, Burnley and Leicester.

      1. FOO FIGHTER
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

So that would be 5 blanks in a row if it had to happen vs BRE and NOR.

How many more points would you be willing to let him cost you?

        1. I Member
          • 8 Years

Those blanks would be in the past. I would look to the future where he would be one of the best strikers in the league playing against some of the worst defences in the league.

When Werner's stats are better than his then there has to be a problem?

No doubt he could rip Norwich apart. I do not see CHE having a good day vs BRE.

But anyway, to each his own.

I don't think there's a problem at all. He missed a big chance, created a big chance, and had a goal disallowed against Southampton. Could've easily hauled.

Read some article that he missed 19 big chances in Serie A last season.

I was excited to get him in but it as games go by it is looking like he may not quite fit in Tuchel's system.

Should I press wc button or can manage another gw at least?

The team is ok as is. Benrahma is still showing good form. Sarr will need to go soon but it's not urgent. Otherwise, no issues really.

I dont like Jota and Gallagher, other than that, looks fine.

You can keep Jota due to lack of replacements, I would drop Gallagher for a cheapie or Everton mid.

I have come to the decision that having money on the bench isn't perhaps such a bad thing, especially so this season, and with some low priced mids and defs scoring regular points.
I have realised that a lot of my poorer transfer decisions and hits have come about because of my bench options being unlikely to do more than appear at best. I will therefore look when posssible to have a more rotating bench and playing team, rather than just fodder. Hopefully this will curb my enthusiasm and self need to take unnecessary hits and allow my chosen players more time to average out.

    Any Comments ??

agreed, especially if you have chelsea and city players ,just had a look at what an actual minefield those two teams are,not counting keepers and probably the nailed dias, kdb azpi, rudiger and lukaku there are 32 players combined from those two squads who any given week might play, ive only had torres up to gw7 and he has been an absolute nightmare to own ,so hes going this week leaving me with none,i'll take my chances...

i know BUR next but sometimes you have to surrender,w/c him out gw3,18 points, back in for a hit gw4 and 4 weeks of nothing its the real low point in my team 3/4 midfielder mbuemo has passed the eye test all year he's in...

Not just the minefield of "roulette". Internationals, secrecy around injuries etc have made a strong bench much more of a necissity it feels.

  27. Mr. O'Connell

Really not feeling it this season. Team is an absolute shambles and the wildcard was well and truly wasted. Took a hit last week and just ended up making the team worse. * Indicates players I would sell if I had another WC.

    Guaita*, Steele*
    James*, Christensen*, Semedo*, Duffy*, Livramento
    Salah, Raphinha, Gray*, ESR*, Sissoko*
    Ronaldo*, Lukaku, Antonio*

Got enough to do Semedo to City def and I think that's what I'll do, but it's such a bad team I feel it needs more.

Half the players you want rid of I have recently bought in and see no reason to sell. Gray, ESR, Ronaldo (only for cash elsewhere), Semedo, Duffy, are all performing. I also have Christensen as cheap and probably rortting Chel "cover". If looks like he is dropped then an easy sell.

James, Duffy, Gray, ESR & Antonio are easy holds for 2-3 weeks atleast.

You need to get more solid picks in def like TAA, Dias/Cancelo by downgrading Ronaldo maybe.

Ronaldo can go next week I'll use the funds to get Trent back and upgrade the midfield. Got too carried away with the 3 premium hype and I was wrong.

I wouldn't take any hits for a temporary fix.

Your team is nog that bad. Atrack and mids are good for now.

I wiuld look to being in starting defenders.

Decide on a back four long term and work towards that.

A hit would be the most I would consider.

I also think you could avoid TAA for the time being as his fixtures arent great. Just concentrate on the non starter or roatation risk defender's.

James and Christensen to possinly Rudiger and White but I think there is a decent chance Christensen gets to play the next day so could just concentrate on James for now.

A city defender a must also and Diaz comes with peace of mind

I'm guessing anything within 50 points is there or thereabouts - that's less than 2 points per week after all.

The template is still fairly flakey and we've got AFCON, BGWs DGWs etc to come.

(Not holding any particuualr hope out for this one but either Spurs premium hitting form could shake things up in a fairly major way 🙂 )
