Who are the best Man City FPL attackers for their Gameweek 8 fixture swing?

Manchester City have had an encouraging start to their 2021/22 campaign, despite a tough run of fixtures which has seen them visit Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

During their opening seven Premier League matches, they have netted 14 goals, and given their forthcoming schedule (see below), it’s easy to see why many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are scouting their assets ahead of Gameweek 8.

With Etihad encounters against Burnley and Crystal Palace in the next three, plus a trip to high-flying Brighton and Hove Albion – a side who they have traditionally done well against under Pep Guardiola – the upside is clearly huge.

However, nailing down a regular starting attacker isn’t straightforward. Looking at City’s two most recent Premier League matches against Liverpool and Chelsea, their ‘strongest’ XI probably looks something like this:

Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; Rodri, Bernardo, De Bruyne; Jesus, Grealish, Foden

That will of course change as the season progresses, and we have seen before just how quickly the landscape can change. Only a few weeks ago, Ferran Torres (£6.9m) was of huge Fantasy interest but has now failed to feature since Gameweek 4, while Riyad Mahrez (£8.7m) – a popular pre-season pick – hasn’t started a single Premier League match since the opening day.

Manchester City’s 2021/22 Premier League line-ups and minutes

It’s also worth noting that for their forthcoming run of fixtures, Guardiola will probably look to use his full squad, and perhaps be less reliant on that ‘strongest’ XI.

The rotation is further complicated by two important UEFA Champions League clashes against Club Brugge, which have taken on extra significance following defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in Matchday 2. The first fixture, which takes place in Belgium, arrives just three days after Burnley, while the return match is four days after Crystal Palace’s visit in Gameweek 10.

There is also an EFL Cup trip to West Ham United to navigate after that latter match, but given that fringe players will surely be given a run-out here, if anything, it’s probably a positive for FPL managers.

Regardless of that, the schedule does suggest some rotation, which is why we have some big decisions to make ahead of Gameweek 8. So, before we give a player-by-player assessment of the main contenders, it goes without saying that if you do choose to invest, additional squad depth is definitely advisable.

hes just come back from injury, hes not "underperformed" yet. It is a lot of money for someone you won't captain though, that i do agree.

but if taa is out, i think i might use the cash to upgrade son to kdb

No, because there is such thing as a precaution, especially with an able squad.

And none of us are aware if the coach will take precaution or not...

Predicting lineups is just waste of time, especially when it comes to Pep and Tuchel.

                        Simply disagree.
Predicting lineups is part of the art, based on from/fitness/game time in nailing selections.

Different taste I guess! I dont see any point in doing that and its just loss of energy for me.

Let press conference do the job, if its still 50-50, move on to some other player. IF you have a backup, use him, if not, upgrade bench etc. Dont want to complicate things.

Yes, No to starting, yes to minutes off the bench (but that's depending on how many minutes he plays for Brazil) 50/50 but leaning no because he's due a rest anyways

      1. Gabbiadini
        • 6 Years

Yes, I could see Raphinha being a cameo also, although part of me thinks that if he is capable enough to be a substitute Bielsea will start him even if it is only for 60 minutes like we saw against Newcastle and West Ham.

        What about Rüdiger?

... agree, I can't really see him being an unused sub at all so whether it be 30 or 60 minutes I think we'll see him on the field as Leeds need a win. And sorry didn't word the response very well, I think Rudiger is a 50/50 just because he won't be coming off the bench, and depending how bad the injury is I can see him being rested just because he has played lots of minutes anyways so far

However, Brentford positioned 7th on the table and an away fixture maybe Tuchel doesn't take this luxury and rests what many believe to be his best centre-back.

Morning dzz, planning to punt on Foden on WC but struggling to plan a route for foden >> Son by gw12

    Ramsdale
Taa cancelo Rudiger xxx -- liv
Salah raph foden xxx -- Brownhill
    Kaku Antonio toney

    A: Duffy + Saka + 0.6m. Play 343 and shift out saka/foden/Antonio in gw11 for son + xxx

B: Chilwell + Mbeumbo + 0m. Play hybrid formations. Chilwell has high upside and I will have decent bench cover but Could mean starting double Brentford attack vs Chelsea this week. Take out chilwell/foden/Antonio in gw11 for son

Have been planning Semedo to Dias for nearly 2 weeks
    2ft 2.8itb
Any other obvious moves this week?
Looking at Sarr to Raphinha next week so not against rolling the other transfer
Gives me another week to consider Mbuemo v Toney

    Guiata
    Trent Semedo* Livra
    Salah Jota Sarr Gray
    Lukaku Antonio Armstrong
    Steer James White Gilmour

I couldn’t give you a proper reason. Just a bias towards Dias from owning him last season. Already own James so wanted nailed. Does seem like Cancelo plays most games. Toss a coin

I don’t think any, sometimes I listen to planet fpl q and a which is good for football but not really for fpl

Wire on a Tuesday, then black box on a Wednesday or Thursday

Try to just keep it to those, anymore is overkill for me

Would definitely wait until after pressers. I didn't think moving before Friday evening was an option lol. Thinking about it now, I won't be surprised if Torres comes in for the next few with the easier fixtures. Seems like pep likes the false nine of foden/kdb etc against tougher opponents. But it's pep, so that rotation risk will always be there, especially with the ucl games too. So i agree with you, depends on your risk appetite.

    Morning

Any Palace fans here? What are your thoughts on Gallagher? His stats seem good.

But with Milivojevic back does this eat into Gallagher's threat?

    Thanks

Gallagher is still an option but his stock is falling with me

Every chance Eze will be starting by GW12 and that will likely push him back and it's really the start of the Palace fixture run. He's likely lost set pieces but rationally Palace have had a terrible set piece record for yonks and that's one area Vieira had had little effect so far. I imagine Olise and Eze will dominate those not Mili.

Hastily took out hwang on WC after he had risen 0.1 and and now want him back ffs. 0.1 short of this team :(. Suggestions on how to extract 0.1 from this?

    Ramsdale -- Foster

The two final decisions in my mind that I'm overthinking, and may need some guidance on, are:

    A) Lukaku is definitely worth it as the Chelsea attacker of choice, right? Even at his price point? For me, the forward spot is the only one to play with, so it's Lukaku or... Werner...

    B) Antonio - is he worth keeping with his fixture run and Europa? I've built up value in him and he looks decent - he's worth keeping over Jimenez or DCL (when fit)... right?

Thanks! Losing the wood for the trees at the moment.

In a similar place with Antonio. But can't see many better options so I may end up holding! Plus his ownership is high, so can you take the pain if he scores and you don't have him?

Very true, it seems like high risk, not so high reward, which doesn't make sense to change.

Lukaku worth keeping for the next 2 at least, reassess if can't score vs NOR
Antonio given his 45% ownership is a real differential if you go without and he has a few blanks in a row. On the flip side if he hauls in the tougher fixtures you'll cop it - what's your risk appetite like?

Lukaku is worth it for me, just been unluckly last few games with hitting the post etc. I'm not considering Werner. I'm keeping antonio while he's fit until I see a down turn in performance (not necessarily output).

You're right, if he had another goal to his name rather than the post then he'd feel a no-brainer. I'll stick with him, thank you!

I think my WC comes down to prioritising TAA or keeping Lukaku.

With the former is frees up some cash to spend elsewhere too, like upgrading Hwang to Toney.

But Lukaku has 4 amazing fixtures.

    Currently have the below

    Ramsdale Foster
    Azpilicueta Cancelo Dias Rudiger Livramento
    Salah Son Raphinha Mbuemo Luiz
    Lukaku Antonio Hwang

    Help!

I don't fancy the che city double up.
Can I suggest going Virgil and keeping 1m itb that way you get their cs with potential for attacking returns whilst others sit on Trent (if he's missing).
If Trent is fit, I wouldn't not own him.
From the team above you're perma 4 atb and even may be tempted to play Livra given his upcoming fixtures, which means benching one of Mbuemo Hwang every week

      1. Invincibles

I'd agree with this. VVD is bound to get a 15 pointer sooner or later with a CS and headed goal. Personally think TAA is more of a priority than Son.

        TAA + Foden = Son + 5.5.

My current setup is like this:
    Salah Jota Sarr Gray
    Lukaku Antonio Armstrong

If Jota is out (probably on the bench at the very least) who would you replace him with for the next run of games
Looking at Sarr to Raphinha next week

Can afford Jota to Son but that won't be the case if I move Semedo to Dias/Cancelo (have 2ft 2.8m itb)

Firmino not playing for Brazil so fresh
Jota missed last couple of sessions with Portugal and either has been or might be sent home early to Liverpool.
At least we should find out in advance given they’re the early kickoff
