FPL Gameweek 8 team news: Alexander-Arnold and Jota expected to be available

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£7.6m) are expected to be available for Liverpool’s Gameweek 8 clash with Watford on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold missed the Reds’ last two competitive fixtures before the October international break due to a groin problem, while Jota withdrew from Portugal’s national team squad on Monday having not kicked a ball for his country over the last week.

But both players are set to rejoin full training with their club colleagues ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

“They are all good, they are all in a good way, let me say it like this.

“So it looks really like Trent and Diogo will be fine, they will train with us tomorrow completely normal, that’s the plan.” – Jurgen Klopp, speaking on Wednesday about his side’s fitness

Both Liverpool players have hemorrhaged owners since Gameweek 7, with Alexander-Arnold the most-sold defender ahead of this Saturday’s FPL deadline and Jota fourth for transfers out among midfielders.

The right-back will surely return to the Liverpool starting XI this weekend if fully recovered but with Roberto Firmino (£8.8m) not involved with Brazil over the last fortnight, there is less certainty over whether Jota will be handed his fifth successive league start regardless of fitness.

The Saturday lunchtime contest is likely to come too soon for Thiago Alcantara (£5.3m), who has a calf problem.

“Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet – that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game.

“And the rest [of the] international [players], some are back, obviously some are not back yet. And we will see.” – Jurgen Klopp

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Harry Maguire (£5.4m) revealed he was “progressing” from a calf issue but had still not been involved in full training with Manchester United, which suggests that the Red Devils are set to be without both first-choice centre-halves for the trip to Leicester City.

The only official pre-match press conference of the day saw Claudio Ranieri on media duties for new employers Watford.

The Hornets earlier confirmed that Joshua King (£5.5m) would be assessed after a return to training but that Francisco Sierralta (£4.3m), Christian Kabasele (£4.4m) and Peter Etebo (£4.5m) remain out with muscle problems.

We should have a minimum of five pre-Gameweek 8 press conferences taking place on Thursday, with the rest following on Friday.

What transfers would you make over the next 2 GW's?

    a) GW8: Marcal ➡ Laporte & GW9 Ronaldo and Sarr ➡ Son and a striker 8.6m or less for -4

    b) GW8: Save FT and play Livramento (LEE) & GW9 Ronaldo and Sarr ➡ Son and a striker 8.6m or less for free

I multiplied it. Over a season a no brainier. Currently my defense is :
      Cancelo / Dias / Rudiger / Azpi / VVD

But I'm gonna change VVD to TAA next week if he's fit again.

I don't love this with the double x2
who's your subs to come on? Most would have 2 of Livra Duffy White on the bench.
A defensive no show or goal conceded like Chelsea did last week and it hurts

So many people just want to look at the negative, and not the way that a defensive double-up is a powerful sword when they get big points.

Exactly thank you. I don't need Son with so many high scoring defenders across a season for same money - if you don't captain an expensive mid ( I have Salah and Lukaku too so wouldn't capt Son ) over a season each of my premium defenders is only 1.5m each over say an Ayling type cost. And points across a season incomparable.

I never said it was the wrong approach. However, with 3 playing cheapies i'd be inclined to own at least one.
This team is 5 perma atb
So probably Salah Raph Everton mid
            Lukaku Antonio

You just need to nail the mids for it to work most weeks. Over the course of a season the points are there for defenders

Exactly. My bench is rotating 2 of the cheap mids and third striker and not the defence. All 5 defenders in my first 11 each week. Yeah some weeks will not work but over season it does. I've done it before.

Nice. if you're going ahead with it, always better to be ahead of the pack before others jump on.
I can see why now especially with those fixtures, but rotation is a buzzkill when it's your defenders

Looking for a much more balanced squad this year as there will be lots of benching.
Have Salah and Don’t want to destroy team by going for Lusaka or Renaldo so, for me it’s big at the back as there is plenty of value in midfield and forwards

Agree - a whole squad of players who can give more than 2 points is reqd. That's how I went.
Next weeks transfer is Aspi to James funds VVD to TAA

        My team currently :
        Ramsdale / Begovic
        VVD / Cancelo / Dias / Aspi / Rudiger
        Salah / Raph / Benrahma / Saka / Mbuembo
        Lukaku / Antonio / Hwang

James is clearly the best attacking RWB they have so think Tuchel will go with him in these easier games if fit to supply the ammo for Lukaku.

Chilwell will either start or not play at all as he never got subbed on once last season unlike James who often came on to provide more of a threat. So you would have Duffy or Livra as backup if Alonso starts so still worth considering as he is coming back into form.

So Dias, Son, Hwang by ditching Raphina? Son will outscore Raphina mate.

NAILED attacking differentials for the coming weeks?

    Mane, Son, Vardy & DCL?

Could also include Bamford but Leeds are struggling to score goals and leaking goals as well like it is going out of fasion. It is a recipe for disaster and still see them being relegated IMO.

Why do you want differentials when you already took a -12? 😆

None of those are differentials in my book. Well, Mané maybe but he's not so much a differential as an idiocy assuming you have Salah which almost everyone does.

      Try Armstrong. 😉

I already have Son, Vardy and DCL.

You know what? I don't give a damn about your team. You asked for a nailed differential and I gave you one. But you weren't actually asking, were you? You were actually just trying to make yourself feel good about what you already did.

No point doing that on here. The proof of the pudding will come when the games are played. So basically you just wasted 5 minutes of my time. 🙄

Nothing suggests that Armstrong is going to take of like a rocket. He has one goal and one assist in 7 matches.

So go waist your time elsewhere trying to convince someone else to pick Armstrong, ok?

Coming in late here, Armstrong has blanked against United, West Ham, Man City, Wolves, Chelsea (all good teams) and scored against Everton, Newcastle. So maybe with the easy fixtures, he can start scoring again? Wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him

Many going for him DD, I have my reservations, he’s obviously done well so far (took his chances) but can he continue

Duffy and Livra not capable of covering the points losses if those two do not make the City lineup, in fact no bench players will.

You are risking almost 20m of your budget when a midfielder like Son is far less hasstle than KDB and then you can still risk getting Foden.

Helloo, I hope everyone is all good. First time posting on here so thought I’d chuck my most likely starting GW 8 Wildcard Team up and see what everyone thought. Would appreciate people’s thoughts on whether this teams good to go or if there’s any changes I should make. Cheers.

    1.8 ITB

    3-4-3 formation

    Sanchez

Walker/Cancelo (Can be upgraded to TAA)/Rudi

    Salah/Son/Raph//Townsend (or Saka or Mbeumo)

    Antonio/Kaku/Hwang

    Subs: Foster, D.Luiz, Duffy, Manquillo

Can you downgrade Townsend to 4.5 and do Walker to TAA?

      1. FITZ-G
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 5 months ago

I could upgrade Walker to TAA without downgrading Townsend. I would have to downgrade D.Luiz to Brownhill and Maquillo to 3.9 Johnson. Would leave me with quite a weak bench but would allow me to have Cancelo, TAA and Rudi.

        1. CRO KLOPP
          • 6 Years

I would maybe rather downgrade Townsend to ESR if that works, beacuse I think good bench is really important, and its sometimes easier to save ft

That’s a good shout seeing as though arsenal have some good fixtures. That’s another way to free up the 0.2 I need to upgrade Walker to TAA. I appreciate the advice.

Thanks for your reply. I have found a way to get both in without making any other changes, but it would leave me with a weak bench of Duffy, Manquillo and 3.9 Johnson and 0 ITB.

If he is fit I think he plays, you could go for it beacuse you have safe picks in defence,I have Laporte so in my case Rudiger is better imo

I’d have Duffy as first sub for Raphinha if not playing, Norwich is a near-guaranteed CS.

Otherwise looks decent. I’m sitting on some money too - feels useful to keep in the back pocket.

A (good) benching headache this week, please help

Who would you start / bench here:

    Guaita Steer
    Trent James Semedo* White Livra
    Salah Jota Sarr Gray Gilmour
    Lukaku Antonio Armstrong

    Semedo will become Dias/Cancelo tomorrow
Tempted to use 2FT on Jota to Foden/Torres pending pressers
Leaning towards a bench of Steer Jota Livra Gilmour
Starting Steer though could be a sneaky play if Martinez misses out

            saw your post above
I'd focus on Trent in for Alonso before switching to City mid. You know the rotation is going to be there, it's just the allure of the upside. In saying that I don't love Arsenal attack but probably wouldn't do it for a hit

Yes,I agree, and points in that City team are shared,so I wont do that, but Jota to some city mid for free could be nice gain in next 3 gmwk atleast if you pick the best one( lower ownership). After that Jota is better long term

Vardy is on course for 20 goals this season and pretty sure he will achieve that. He will be set forget for me unless he gets injured.

Then I also have DCL and Antonio so at their price points it is an easy switch for me to other in form forwards 8m and lower should DCL and Antonio lose form. That is how I will be running for the long term.

It is ones midfield which is the most difficult to figure out this season. If Bruno was on fire, the template would still be Bruno and Salah.

The midfielders 7 to 8m just are not living up. KDB is too expensive tbf compared to Son. Everyone has Salah and then at least two budgets.

Ronnie has not had a great impact for Bruno and might turn out to be Bruno's downfall this season so it will be interesting to see how long the budget midfielders keep on pushing the middle priced midfielders down the points table.

    Best option on WC:

    1. Rudiger Foden Jimenez [roll with pep roulette with a decent bench as fall back]
    2. Chilwell Son Hwang [lose Jimenez(pens), and swap Rudiger, but Chilly is rotation risk too…]

For info, bench would be between Mbeumo / Duffy / Livramento / Brownhill each week...

Rudiger is good for clean sheets, he will struggle getting bonus points. Low ceiling. You need Duffy or Livra to cover for Chilwell. Chillwell is also on corners and perhaps freekicks so there is benefits going with him over Rudiger.

Son will outscore Foden hands down. Foden will need to start every match to keep up with Son and that ain't going to happen.

Jimenez is a better pick than Hwang but Jimmy is not explosive whereas Whang may very well be. More value at 5.6m to be honest.

No yes I tend to agree, I suppose it’s because I’ve been on Rudiger Foden Jimenez all IB and Jimenez served me well the 2x weeks beforehand I’m struggling to move him on for Hwang. I’m also not convinced with Son and Spurs over the next 3 (very good GW12) as opposed to Foden’s (possible) fixtures…
