FPL Gameweek 8 team news: Alexander-Arnold and Jota expected to be available

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£7.6m) are expected to be available for Liverpool’s Gameweek 8 clash with Watford on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold missed the Reds’ last two competitive fixtures before the October international break due to a groin problem, while Jota withdrew from Portugal’s national team squad on Monday having not kicked a ball for his country over the last week.

But both players are set to rejoin full training with their club colleagues ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

“They are all good, they are all in a good way, let me say it like this.

“So it looks really like Trent and Diogo will be fine, they will train with us tomorrow completely normal, that’s the plan.” – Jurgen Klopp, speaking on Wednesday about his side’s fitness

Both Liverpool players have hemorrhaged owners since Gameweek 7, with Alexander-Arnold the most-sold defender ahead of this Saturday’s FPL deadline and Jota fourth for transfers out among midfielders.

The right-back will surely return to the Liverpool starting XI this weekend if fully recovered but with Roberto Firmino (£8.8m) not involved with Brazil over the last fortnight, there is less certainty over whether Jota will be handed his fifth successive league start regardless of fitness.

The Saturday lunchtime contest is likely to come too soon for Thiago Alcantara (£5.3m), who has a calf problem.

“Thiago needs probably a little bit longer, [he] was not in team training yet – that’s always not a good sign for starting the next game.

“And the rest [of the] international [players], some are back, obviously some are not back yet. And we will see.” – Jurgen Klopp

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Harry Maguire (£5.4m) revealed he was “progressing” from a calf issue but had still not been involved in full training with Manchester United, which suggests that the Red Devils are set to be without both first-choice centre-halves for the trip to Leicester City.

The only official pre-match press conference of the day saw Claudio Ranieri on media duties for new employers Watford.

The Hornets earlier confirmed that Joshua King (£5.5m) would be assessed after a return to training but that Francisco Sierralta (£4.3m), Christian Kabasele (£4.4m) and Peter Etebo (£4.5m) remain out with muscle problems.

We should have a minimum of five pre-Gameweek 8 press conferences taking place on Thursday, with the rest following on Friday.

Always nice to see a 0.2 rise banked

I'm guessing he's pretty much cooked as a nailed starter but tricky to get rid just now so hoping he holds at 4.4

Need to wait and see of course but I'd have Webster ahead of him

Duffy has been great FPL but not sure he's been that great for Brighton irl. Yes he's done well in defensive stats but his almost complete inability on the ball changes that defence radically. I suspect Potter would prefer to be able to play out from the back again.

Yeh, I'm playing him v Norwich, then I have a decision to make. I'll be wanting a City defender, and it'll be either Semedo who goes for Cancelo/Dias, or Duffy goes for Laporte. Depends on each of their performances this GW. I got duffy for 4m GW2 when Veltman was ruled out; he's served me very well but I can't avoid City for too long.

I've shoved the decision down the line a bit as I've put my spare change in Vardy so can't upgrade him to City now - most likely switch would be White but that's very low priority so long as Livra is there.

If he scores and keeps a clean sheet against Norwich that 0.2 profit could rise. Who else would you get at 4.2 ?

          Simplistic really

You don't of course need to replace at identical value - especially at this time of the season where budgets are beginning to swell.

If he looks like being one to move on you can very well look at Manquillo say as a saving or White as a slight budget upgrade. That's before thinking about the other possible upgrades around the 5.0 mark if you are shifting funds around.

All theoretIcal right now of course and not anticipated for just before Norwich

One City defender should be enough… Go for Ederson as a keeper if you have the budget… Else two attackers from City…

One City, One Liverpool and One Chelsea defender should stretch your budget to the max.

    1FT and 0.2 ITB.

    Sanchez
    TAA* Rudiger* Christensen
    Salah Jota* Raphinha* Greenwood
    Ronaldo Antonio Armstrong

    (Steele Livramento White Gilmour)

I am starting to think I might even save FT after IB, pretty happy with bench if needed. Admittedly a couple more flags than pre-IB but think most are likely to play.

Haha you’re right, I think I need to stick with what I’ve been on this whole time and go with my gut. But with the expectation that Foden may not start.

I’m priced out by 0.1 to do Foden / Jimenez to Son / Hwang right now… so to leave some itb would you get Chilwell or James over Rudiger or leave as is for security? I suppose Tuchel may give more clues there

Mate I really appreciate your support, you’ve helped a lot.

Think I might take a risk on James too, will obviously wait and see if Tuchel gives anything away but he could be great upside moving forward and an exciting move. Even if I hold Rudiger this week and do James next, if Tuchel omits to say whether he will play!

      Townsend - most effect without

this has been my dilemma under WC. I'm keeping son and salah. I feel KDB might be the best city choice for attack. And Lukaku got injury concern and has blanked in last 3. I am in real need for catch-up as well.

So if Raphina plays 90 in Brazil’s next game, worth having a 1 week punt on 7m mod on a WC with a plan to bring him in GW8?

    A) Just start with Raphina
    B) Saka
    C) Torres (high risk!)

      C. high risk, high reward and only for a week anyways so would likely outscore Raphinha regardless

Not if he doesn't play he won't - that's the risk and I doubt he gets a game

i had thought Jimenez was leaving Mexico early - but he came on in the 63rd minute tonight.
still should be plenty of time to be good for the weekend.

This might be nothing but I read a post here about cancelo being a doubt? Is this true? Any links if so?

I am thinking the same, some of the predicted line-ups I have seen also don't have him as starting.

But as we all know who the heck knows what players will be in the team!

I think there is 'just talk' about Zinchenko and Stones making way for Cancelo and Laporte for this GWs easy fixture.
They are away to Club Brugge mid next week and will want a strong team to get back on CL track after losing to PSG.
        It's all what if's tho

Williams and Sarr -> Cancelo and ESR/Mbuemo (-4)?

    Sanchez
    TAA, Rudiger, Semedo, Livra
    Salah (c), Greenwood, Raph,
    Lukaku, Antonio, Jimenez
    4.0, Sarr, Allan, Williams
    1ft, 1.8 itb

I own Raph and will be benching assuming he gets 60 minutes for Brazil but who to start ?

Christensen or livramento? Already own rudiger and starting

Also, could their be a shout to play 5/2/3 and bench sarr as well so team would be

    Bachman 🙁
    Christensen livramento rudiger cancelo Taa
    Salah jota
    Armstrong Antonio Ronaldo

    Foster sarr Raph gilmour

Or would you set it up different ?

I'm starting Raph regardless, Livramento first on bench.

5-2-3 seems the right move to me.

      Sarr is a great back-up for Christensen/Rudiger.

It's all pretty tight though - hard to find how to make a definite decision.

      I'm benching Raph.
No reason not to put Christensen in your starting XI. If he doesn't start, he won't cameo.
Livramento against a Leeds without Bamford and Raph could produce dividends.

Thoughts on this for a TAA + Son team?

Bench is cack and I’d need to rotate and start one of Duffy/Livra each week. But perhaps that is worth it!

    Ramsdale
    Trent*, Cancelo, Chilwell, Duffy*
    Salah, Son, Raphina, Mbeumbo
    Lukaku, Antonio

    Foster, Livramento, Brownhill*, Davis

    * alternatives being Laporte, Tierney & Saka

    So many uncertainties...

    Sanchez | Steele
    Rudiger* Dier White
    Salah Jota* Raphinha* Gray Gallagher
    Ronaldo Lukaku
    ¦ Digne* Dennis Ayling*

    0.0 ITB, 1 FT

Ayling, Jota -> Azpi/Dias/Cancelo, Mbeumo, for a hit??
