James, Mount and Alonso benched as Lukaku leads the Chelsea line again

Relatively few Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will have escaped some rotation pain on Saturday and the teamsheet bombshells continue at Brentford this evening.

Chelsea make the short journey across west London to meet their neighbours in the 5.30pm BST kick-off.

Taking inspiration from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI selections earlier in the day, Thomas Tuchel has thrown a few curveballs our way.

Malang Sarr‘s debut wouldn’t have been predicted by many and the effect of his inclusion at centre-half means that Cesar Azpilicueta once again lines up at right wing-back, so the fit-again Reece James has to be content with a seat on the bench.

Marcos Alonso and Mason Mount will be alongside the defender, while Callum Hudson-Odoi drops to the bench, Antonio Rudiger misses out with a back problem and Thiago Silva isn’t involved following his late return from World Cup qualifier duty in South America.

Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante return to the starting XI.

It’s a relatively serene picture with regards to the Brentford team news, as Thomas Frank has made only one change to the side that started the win at West Ham. It’s an enforced one, too, with Mathias Jensen coming in for the injured Shandon Baptiste.

Kristoffer Ajer is only among the substitutes.

GAMEWEEK 8 LINE-UPS

Brentford XI: Raya, Canos, Jorgensen, Pinnock, Jansson, Henry, Norgaard, Jensen, Onyeka, Toney, Mbeumo

Subs: Fernandez, Thompson, Goode, Forss, Ghoddos, Ajer, Bidstrup, Roerslev, Maghoma

Chelsea XI: Mendy, Sarr, Christensen, Chalobah, Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Chilwell, Lukaku, Werner

Subs: Arrizabalaga, Alonso5Jorginho, Níguez, Barkley, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, James, Havertz

I don't watch Man Utd. Is it Ronaldo that's bad. Or, the team generally? Has he made it worse, trying to accommodate him? Sounded like they were better with Cavani.

If I had to take a wild stab in the dark, I suspect Ronaldo doesnt think Ole is good enuf, and its probably obvious Ronaldo doesnt have faith in him

Oh, it was never going to go well for Ole. He isn't good enough. And Ron won't be shy about his attitude towards him.

But, is it Ronaldo that's bad. Or, the team generally? Has he made it worse, trying to accommodate him? Sounded like they were better with Cavani.

Ronaldo is such a big character, players are going to respect him more than Ole. As u said, if Ronaldo isnt happy, he isnt going to hide it and we have already seen glimpses of that, like when he went straight down the tunnel vs Everton. That attitude and opinion will rub off on other players
Ole is just out his depth, Ole was never meant to be permanent, they just decided to stick with him after he showed some potential. But he isnt a proven Manager and its a big ask for him to win the PL or any other major trophy

I agree with Cavani things seemed betetr, probably because Cavani doesnt have such a big ego.
Sounds like im totally blaming this on Ronaldo, but the issue is Ole and peoples lack of faith in him.

You are right though, Man U didnt sign Ronalod because he fits their system, they signed him because he was available. And as such Man U is a bit of a mess, you got VDB scartching his ass on the bench, then musical chairs between Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho, Lingard, Martial, Cavani...

They have no vision, they are just buying square pegs and trying to fit them into circle holes. They have been doing this for quite a while now, probably going back to Alexis signing for them or even before that. Who ever is in charge of transfers at Man U is basically playing Fifia with an unlimited transfer budget

There was also the marketing/merchandise/global club branding element behind why they went for him

Yeah. Seemed like they were on the up, with an exciting future with all the young attacking talent, being brought on with Cavani.

Then panicked and got Ronaldo in (presumably just to stop the City move).

Sun, yea good point, the board probably had the ultimate say.

TBH if Ronaldo is available, they yes they should sign him. But offload Martial and Lingard or something

Ronaldo too old. Come off it.
The guy is a physical specimen in better shape than many 20-odd year olds. He still has a really good burst of pace, and his footballing intelligence is still fantastic.
It’s the team and tactics (or lack of I should say) that’s crap.

Imagine Ronaldo playing for City. He’d score a bucketload without a doubt

Ron would've been a short-term, more whiney Hazza Kane for City. Would've scored loads. Not sure how Pep would get on with him, though.

No, he would have been told to work his socks off by Pep and he cant do that anymore. When he plays in a team with wingers that also are bad defenders, and no mobility and tempo in midfield they get easily overturned. Tielemans is Pogba but he also puts his sock in into a dogfight. If you put ndidi and Tielemans in for pogba and matic and replace Ronaldo with Vardy they would be much better as a team. Ronaldo is still good but in todays football you need your striker to be the first defender also, just look at Firmino, Jota, Salah and Mane, all very good in defensive areas too.

I agree with this. Think the game's moved on from having a superstar player that doesn't do their share of off the ball work.

A bit of both. Ron has thrown off the bit of chemistry they had right at the start of the season, when they looked more functional with Greenwood up top. Those two specifically don't play well together, they don't look to pass to each other and the team's link up play suffers.

Does seem that a good manager would do a lot better with them. With Ole, its seems like everyone agrees he's a bad manager. But, a nice chap. So, they'll let him off the hook & keep buying players in, until the squad is so stacked, even he can get results.

Thinking of replacing Sanchez for next couple of weeks (has City + Liverpool), should I do it or just accept what will come and use the FT elsewhere? His fixtures are fine after that for a bit so I might be going back. I can move to Mendy now (which I'd probably keep for 3 weeks if I was doing it), just I know a lot of people think using transfers on keepers is a waste here and I'm trying to be smarter about using FTs this season. But Mendy could easily outscore Sanchez by 10-12pts over 2 weeks

Do you not have any other fires to put out? A goalkeeper transfer is a luxury transfer at the best of times, let alone on Sanchez who is probably the best value GK in the game.

    74 (-8) ( so 66)

With Antonio and Gray to play and up to 34k tonight!

I'd say Semedo, Sarr and Ronaldo
    To
Taa Foden and Jimenez probably paid off minus Jimmy!

A happy weekend to you all!

    1 FT. 0 itb.

    Options are:

Ronaldo to Vardy (which allows Scarlett to Toney for a hit, or defensive improvements later on).

    Sarr to Mbeumo.

Upgrading my miserable forward line seem very attractive, even for the hit, as I'd have 3 nailed strikers all actually playing for attacking teams.

    Something to think about.

A lot of reasons. Hit the wood 6 times this season and honestly, Brentford look amazing, as does he.

Same. I don’t think he’s a bad pick tho but would rather scout for now until he stops playing the crossbar challenge

    Have exact money for

Ronaldo + Perica + Sarr to Vardy + Werner + Mbeumo for -4. Will have to be done tonight.

      Leicester and Chelsea play midweek
Not convinced on Werner, the value is in Chelsea defence not attack

Tuchel saying lukaku looked tired today. If he’s benched midweek agains Malmo. He’ll be (C) for sure this week. Hopefully eases the pain of the last few gameweek Ed!

I’ve earmarked the Norwich game for him as cap for a while, but not any more. Has to be Salah.

Agree with Rupert. Regretting Lukaku to be honest … don’t think he can be trusted and Salah form is superb, so Mo gets the C for me next week.

Hope a rest will do. Watched him vs France and thought he was great so I think Tuchel's tactics are the problem.

I think many of us were tricked by his debut and upcoming sexy fixtures. The way Chelsea play, I don’t think their target man is going to splash points all over the shop … but easy mistake to make … but one I do regret …

    Early thoughts here? Cheers

    A. Ronaldo and Williams to Vardy and Chillwell (need to make 0.1 for TAA)
    B. Ronaldo and Williams to DCL and Chilwell/TAA
    C. Something else

    Sanchez
    Cancelo Rudiger Duffy
    Salah Raphina Benrahma Gray
    Ronaldo Lukaku Antonio

    Steele Livramento McArthur Williams

Drop doesn’t matter if you got him in at 12.5m
Even if you got him him at 12.6m, there’s no rush as Lukaku is cheaper than Ronaldo so no priced out risk
      Information > prices always
