Wilson and Son start as Newcastle host Spurs in Gameweek 8

All eyes will be on St James’ Park this afternoon as Newcastle United take on Tottenham Hotspur in the first game since the Saudi-led takeover.

Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.

The Magpies’ are given a boost by the return of talisman Callum Wilson (£7.3m), who has been out since Gameweek 3 with a thigh injury.

Jamaal Lascelles (£4.4m) also comes back into the starting XI, with Federico Fernandez (£4.4m) dropping to the bench.

As for Tottenham, they are unchanged from the side that beat Aston Villa in Gameweek 7.

That means another start for Son Heung-min (£10.1m), despite suggestions that he wouldn’t be involved due to a positive Covid-19 test.

GAMEWEEK 8 LINE-UPS

Newcastle XI: Darlow, Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Longstaff, Willock, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin, Wilson

Subs: Gillespie, Schar, Shelvey, Lewis, Hendrick, Fernandez, Fraser, Murphy, Gayle

Spurs XI: Lloris, Royal, Romero, Dier, Reguillon, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Moura, Son, Kane

Subs: Gollini, Sanchez, Tanganga, Davies, Winks, Alli, Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Gil

I'd really love newcastle to get relegated.
    Absolutely love it.
Never had any real issues with them before last week, but would be a laugh to throw a short term spanner in the saudi plan.
Richest club in the world in the championship.

It's a possibility and not without precedent.

A panic buy in January may not help.

In reality they can shore up at the back and probably could limp over the line without splashing loads of cash under the Ashley way.

Think the club's transformation will be tremendous in January. Won't get them Europe or anything, but will surely avoid relegation imo.

You'd imagine so, but football is a funny game. They could be in a bad way come jan, and throwing a load of new talent together, there's no guarantee of it coming together.

True. But I'm talking more in terms of management. Think they bring in a top manager who takes them over the line, then splashes the cash in the summer.

Bitter? Absolutely not? I'd honestly give up supporting my club if the Saudis bought us over.
Even as it is, I'm losing interest in the game, the whole European super league, and state run clubs. The game is gone.

I agree when it's Middle Eastern sovereign wealth v Russian money against the New York stock exchange and Chinese and other far east billionaires it kind of distorts the playing field somewhat.

Its quite possible, there are huge issues at the club, not just Bruce but the team is awful. Sam Alladyce is no longer a guarantee of staying up and money or no that’s what the Newcastle board have to look at as the priority. There’s only so much they can spend in January - there’s a very small pool of players who are going to want to go there. You can have all the money in the World but if no one wants to play for you it doesn’t help.

    Bookies odds:

Lukaku to score 1.53, to brace 3.2 (hattie 8.5)
Salah to score 2.1, to brace 6.5 (hattie 23)

C Lukaku decided. I am chasing so much after bad luck and surprisingly poor decision making that FOMO has to be forgotten, cannot play like a sheep. I blame women and real life interfering more important things.

Loads of things could possibly happen for sure - he might get a bad injury midweek, he might get struck by lightning, he might get abducted by aliens, or he might even just be rested. Same with Salah.

Overall though, taking all those factors and more into account, the bookies are estimating his probability of scoring as significantly higher than Salah's is the point

The Value is certainly with Salah there then of it was a market I’d bet on. Given the form of the two and the defence form of the opposition teams I’m not sure how the bookies have come to that conclusion!

One factor might be that when someone takes hits, he is usually pretty certain that those transfers are good. Players ditched are often either injured, in very bad form and/or have poor fixtures. Or something like that 😉

Well done. I remember how much stick you were getting from people for the hit, you probably outscored them in the end.

Transferring Ron to Rom would give me this for next week. Still holding WC and while would possibly ship out Sanchez Alonso Jota Benrahma Semedo think should hold longer

    A Team good enough
    B WC
C Any additional transfer you would suggest for -4. Alonso to Azpilicueta possible but bench should cover no show by Alonso and big upside if plays Norwich

    Sanchez
    TAA Cancelo Alonso
    Salah Jota Raphinha Benrahma Mbeumo
    Lukaku Antonio

    Foster Livramento Semedo Scarlett

Maybe see if Alonso plays midweek.

Alonso to Azpilicueta saves you the bother of wondering if Alonso or Chilwell start.

      A) Livra vs Burnley can cover Alonso

Alonso already dropped in price. If Chilly starts midweek, I'd keep Alonso. But even if Alonso starts keeping him one week might be a good idea. Chelsea kept cs, but that was pure luck.

Sensible plan . Kane, Vardy, DCL, a few options unless he really finds form. Maybe go cheap and find funds for Son

The question will be if money is no objection would it be best to go Kane or Son

He stays for the next three baring injury so do the price drops even matter?

Very similar team to me bar 1-2 players. I’m playing Raph over Liv first sub.

Yes, gutted I got rid on wildcard. Couldn’t afford to risk him being available after hearing news he was out.

I would although depends on who has to be sacrificed

Wildcard was a bit of a waste, only made 4-5 changes due to having no funds and Ayling, Rudiger, Raph and Son apparently out. Son plays and scores, Dias gets a one pointer. Team is set up a bit better now and another green arrow but a bit frustrating never the less.

You’ll be laughing if Dias starts and Cancelo is benched next week. As long as the team is set up pretty well then you’ve done all you can

Not quite, I’ve got both! Had Cancelo from GW1 which was a touch though.
