Zaha and Saka updates as Palace players impress ahead of plum Gameweek 9 match

We continue our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 8 write-ups with analysis of Arsenal v Crystal Palace.

For a shorter summary of all of Saturday’s action, click here, while you can read up on Sunday’s two Premier League fixtures here and here.

ARSENAL 2-2 CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Goals: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.9m), Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3m) | Christian Benteke (£6.3m), Odsonne Edouard (£6.5m)
  • Assists Nicolas Pepe (£7.1m), Gabriel Martinelli (£5.2m) | Jordan Ayew (£5.9m), Michael Olise (£5.4m)
  • Bonus: Aubameyang x3, Benteke x3, Edouard x1

PALACE IMPRESS DESPITE LATE SETBACK

ARS/CRY

A 95th-minute equaliser from Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3m) saw Arsenal rescue a draw at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

However, that aside, it was a match full of positives for Crystal Palace, who carried a real threat going forward and probably deserved all three points.

“It was so close but we have been saying that a little bit too often. We have to learn from the games we played previously. I am really disappointed because the way the team came back in the second half, they deserved to win the game.

I am frustrated for them, they were brave and showed character and to concede a goal like that I am disappointed for my players.

We conceded those goals on set pieces on the second phases and we need to work on that. We have to put our sleeves up and put our bodies on the line. We were really unlucky today, it is the way it is but I believe there is more to come from the team to challenge even better.” – Patrick Vieira

ZAHA LATEST

Sarr underlines differential potential as Chelsea earn another clean sheet 8

Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) missed out tonight though illness, having felt unwell since returning from international duty last week.

As a result, he hadn’t trained, and sat out his first Premier League match of the current campaign.

“The plan is for him to do some light training tomorrow and he will be joining the team on Wednesday morning.” – Patrick Vieira on Wilfried Zaha

With Zaha out, Odsonne Edouard (£6.5m) took up a wider role on the left (no. 22 below), with Christian Benteke (£6.3m) leading the line in Patrick Vieira’s 4-3-3 formation.

Crystal Palace’s average position map v Arsenal in Gameweek 8

As for Conor Gallagher (£5.7m) – who is owned by 7.8% of FPL managers – he carried plenty of attacking threat on the night, and despite serving up his third blank in the last four Gameweeks, ended the match with three shots and was also involved in the buildup to Palace’s second goal.

With Newcastle United up next at Selhurst Park, owners will surely be content to hold another week, but with champions Manchester City to follow, he will need to return soon to keep ticking over.

AUBAMEYANG ON TARGET

Since Gameweek 4, which coincided with Arsenal’s fixtures easing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.9m) has now registered three goals and 29 FPL points.

During that time, he ranks fifth in his position for expected goal involvement (xGI), and top amongst team-mates for goal attempts and shots in the box.

Admittedly, he is difficult to accommodate in our squads right now, but with Aston Villa, Watford and Newcastle United up next at the Emirates, he certainly has the platform to keep on delivering.

As for the Gunners, there were few positives on the night, with their 43% possession total in the opening half clearly not enough for a side who wants to take the initiative in front of their own fans.

Despite going five games unbeaten now in the Premier League, that suggests that they will need improve to improve ahead of Villa (h) and Leicester City (a), especially defensively, having suffered several shaky moments at the back tonight.

“A strange game. We started really well, we were dominant and we scored the goal. After that we lacked composure to manage the game. We didn’t have a sequence of passes and then the team was stretched.

After half time we changed a couple of things and we got better but we gave the ball away in areas you can’t and after that we have a mountain to climb.

Credit they didn’t give up, we had some big chances and then got the goal in the end.

My perception was we were trying to protect something instead of going for the second one. We were not comfortable.” – Mikel Arteta

Elsewhere, Bukayo Saka (£6.4m) was withdrawn at half-time, following a heavy challenge from James McArthur (£4.5m) just before the break, and later appeared on the bench with a heavily strapped calf muscle.

“Obviously, he couldn’t continue and he’s a boy that’s pretty tough and wants to keep playing, but he could not carry on and we have a quick turnaround for the next game, so we will see how he evolves.” – Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Partey (Martinelli 81), Odegaard (Lacazette 67), Smith Rowe, Pepe, Saka (Sambi Lokonga 45), Aubameyang

C Palace XI: Guaita, Ward, Guehi, Andersen, Mitchell, Milivojevic (Kouyate 67), McArthur, Gallagher, Ayew (Olise 71), Edouard (Tomkins 82), Benteke

      Seems sensible.

Even as an Arsenal fan there are no Arsenal players I'd want to play every week which is why I've had White and ESR since the start knowing I can take them in and out as fixtures dictate. I think Saka will score more than ESR over the course of the season but at 6.5m you can get Raphinha, West Ham mids, only 0.5m off some explosive Man City mids if you own them at the right time. Don't feel so bad benching ESR when I bought him at 5.5m.

Probably Toney and Son as they're £2m cheaper and Brentford's run of fixtures includes Watford, Leeds, Norwich and Newcastle

    Lukaku (c) Antonio

I’m not sure about James, I will probably give him a couple of GW’s anyway as I think he is the best option at RWB for Chelsea and will play most games

Pretty good. Brentford as a whole were on the front foot for a lot of the 2nd half, and Mbeumo especially got into threatening positions. Mendy bailed out Chelsea. Under the cosh as the expression goes.

      Wildcarded.

Rough - had Son all the time in it and removed after covid news. The final wildcard has both Jimenez and Armstrong whom collectively gave me 1 pt this gw.

Salah c and a good defensive effort from Christensen, Sanchez, TAA and Livra. No transfers made so two for next week to bring in Cancello and Mbeumo. Green arrow of 23k.

Picked James over Chilwell on a wildcard despite reading the stats that he often gets subbed on, which blocked Livramento. Mbuemo hitting the post another couple of times.

Otherwise a solid 61 points and a decent team for the coming weeks. A green arrow and a chance to roll a transfer is never a bad thing

      Rough.

I am currently 219k with 519 points, but if I had made no changes whatsoever to my GW1 squad I would now be 24k with 549 points according to http://www.game-change.co.uk/2017/08/28/fantasy-football-what-if-machine/.

In GW6 I took a hit to replace Fernandes and Pukki with Ronaldo(C) and Gallagher and dropped from 102k to 154k.
I should have stuck with my original plan of Fernandes to Mane in GW6 followed by Mane to Son in GW8.

In GW7 I played my wildcard and dropped further to 195k. Replacing TAA with Alonso, Sanchez with Ramsdale and keeping Ronaldo all turned out badly. I should waited at least another week before wildcarding.

In GW8, Alonso, Raphinha and Rudiger didn't play and Dias was surprisingly benched before making a one-point cameo. My rank dropped again to 219k with only three of my squad scoring more than 3 points.
But at least my transfer of Ronaldo to Vardy was successful, Douglas Luiz did pick up a clean sheet point after being subbed before Villa conceded three late goals and I can now afford to upgrade Alonso to TAA next week.

      Rough
Mount trolling me again with another 1pt cameo blocking Livermento's 6pt's on bench, Tierney only getting 1pt after nearly breaking the crossbar with a shot

      Smooth
finally got some points from TAA after bringing him in gw 5 for a hit, also Salah(c), Auba, Greenwood, Sanchez, Cancelo all doing the business to help me to a very decent 67pt's

Rough; Dibbed out on two clean sheets with Dias and Rudiger not playing. Seven players scoring 0,1 or 2.

Smooth; Salah(c), Greenwood, Sanchez my only returns.

51 points and third straight red dropped from 109k to 344k now.

What do Chelsea fans expect of Chalobah ? 4 starts, 38 points, behind only Azpilicueta and Alonso and 4.8. Will he continue to get starts ?

I think he might feature a lot. Silva, Rudiger, Christensen and Azpilicueta are the four most likely to fill the back three places, but Azpi often covering for James. They play two matches a week till Christmas, and it all depends on how much of a game they get from Malmo (next two Champs League ties) as Silva and Rudiger clearly need a regular break. If you have the usual excellent cover of Libra or White or Duffy combos, then could be a good shout, as he has potential to score as seen already.

Smooth - KDB (c), Livramento to cover Alonso yet again

Rough - Sunday letdown with Bentonio and Gray, plus Kasper again and again

Would you WC this team? If not FT will be used to do Ron to Rom

    Schmeichel Ward
    Cancelo Alonso Livramento Duffy Tsmikas
    Salah KDB Sarr Benrahma Gray
    Ronaldo Antonio Perica

Players I'm looking at are Raph, Toney, Mbeumo, Ramsdale and obviously TAA

A nice 67 points for me this week and a green arrow AND won my H2H fixture too to go top of the League! Going on past history it should be all downhill from here 😆

Gonna get rid of Ronaldo and Jota for a hit but still deciding who will replace them. I could go Toney and Son or Vardy and Mbeumo or some other combo. We will see how we feel come Thursday night 🙂

Whatever your moves and or tinkerings this week, hope again your arrows be green, and I'll catch you again next week...

    Have a good'un!!!

67 is a great week, I got 58 couldve been oh so different had I gone Chilwell over James, anyway we move forward 🙂

          Ramsdale
          TAA Cancelo James
          Salah Foden Mbeumo Raphinha
          Lukaku Antonio Jimenez

          Foster Livramento Brownhill Duffy

I'm happy enough, just need to sweat out the rotation risks and hope for the best...

Your McArthur was a lucky boy tonight 😉 we have quite similar ORs!!

Wasn't he just! If he had been given a RC for his assault on Saka I wouldn't have been shocked and slow motion definitely doesn't help my guy 😆

Nice team btw! Unlucky with James over Chilwell, but in a different GW, James could be the pick...

Haha yeah ideally I’d love both but would have to shave 1.6m off this somewhere:

        Sanchez
        Tierney - Alonso - Cancel - Dias
        Raphinha - Salah - Son - Benrahma
        Lukaku - Vardy
        ______________________________
        Foster: Livramento: Allan: Scarlett

This is what it would look like AFTER doing Ronaldo + Sarr > Vardy + Son, but 1.6m shy haha!

Jota to Raphinha for free or save transfer and do it for Norwich game the following week?

    Hye
My team below quite OK for this week but i want Son in my team or should i just calm and wait for another week because i think no bigger issue on my team yet- Would give James one last chance

    Sa
    Livra - Cancelo - James ( Tierney-Semedo )
Salah - Raphinha - Doucoure - Greenwood (Gallagher)
    Vardy - Jiminez - Antonio
    2FTs

    My initial propose transfer is
    a) Greenwood & Gallagher to Son & Douglas luiz/Allan
    b) Sa to Mendy

Should i just do the transfer?

Gallagher has slightly higher points per game than Jota, and is more nailed. He will give you some money in reserve too, so I'd go for him. Sarr could have the odd big score, but Watford starting to look very poor. My season diabolical though, so I wouldn't trust a word I say!
