Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 9?

Deputy Editor Tom joined Scoutcast regular Joe earlier today to look at the best captaincy candidates for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in Gameweek 9.

You can watch the video either embedded in this article below or on our YouTube channel.

Chelsea certainly have the most appealing fixture as they host Norwich City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

That’s why it is no surprise to see Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) top of the latest poll. Even team-mate Timo Werner (£8.6m) makes a rare appearance in the current top five!

However, Mohamed Salah’s (£12.8m) form, paired with Manchester United’s recent defensive struggles, ensure that this week’s captaincy decision maybe isn’t quite as clear-cut as we first thought.

In our video, we also discuss some of the less considered options, such as Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m), Jamie Vardy (£10.6m), Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Harry Kane (£12.1m), all of whom have under 3% backing in the poll.

You can cast your vote on the widget of our home page or below, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future episodes.

Don’t forget to check back for our Captain Sensible article later in the week, which will delve into even more detail on the main runners and riders.

Foden looking good. Worth the rotation risk?

the issue with people like Foden is obviously he's worth it when starting, but too hard to predict. So either you wait till injuries open up a chance to become a regular starter, or you just buy and keep. He got 4.8 PPG last year, which is decent for 8mil.

i'll add as well you need a strong bench, having 2 x 10 points coming on for him last year when he saw no pitch time wrecks his good PPG.

Yep. Part of the beauty of him for me is so many have been burnt so recently by Torres (who I never owned as deemed the risk/reward ratio wasn’t worth it) that he’ll remain a differential for longer than he should as people will keep talking about Pep Roulette. He’ll inevitably get some benchings but I expect this to be the one that’s worth itZ

      Definitely

Just like in preseason Mahrez was looking good (he's the only one with a pre-season, on pens and Pep has to pick him)

And after GW3 Torres was looking good (He's 7.0 playing up front for the best team in the world and has just hauled)

And Grealish has been looking good the whole time (Pep paid £100m for him and starts him every game - he has to do well)

      Foden is definitely looking good

Even if he is blankaku, his fixtures are too good to ignore and i believe he is due. Bit unlucky in last few games. And utd will fight back imo. Ole will be desperate.

Who cares, he is the best FPL asset you can own at this point.

When he is at Afcon everyone will on Jota and back to Salah.

Pep Guardiola on Bernardo Silva: "He can play in four or five different positions and he is so intelligent, and intelligent players can play everywhere. He is a winger, or a striker, or a holding midfielder or a central defender."

Basically he says some players are moulded to 1 position and some are more fluid.

#LFC line up v Atletico: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Milner, Keita, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Fabinho, Konate, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Jota, Tsimikas, Origi, Phillips, Williams.

Alisson the only change, Fabinho not starting is weird.

      Has to be worth monitoring

Take the form line back to the end of last season and his goals per minutes is very impressive. It's not just about that hattie. tbh anyone in that attack has to worth monitoring if the minutes are there.

Yep. Feels odd not to be on 3 Liverpool when they're looking like FPL gold again.

Actually pondering most seriously one of VVD or Robbo ahead of generic defence. Could be cash rich around GW12 and move then.

Slightly bonkers to see Robbo at 2%. Doubt he'll get popular any time soon as having missed so many he doesn't feature at top of defender points charts and that's where I suspect most get their moves from - aside from Twitter pf course.
