Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 9?

Deputy Editor Tom joined Scoutcast regular Joe earlier today to look at the best captaincy candidates for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in Gameweek 9.

You can watch the video either embedded in this article below or on our YouTube channel.

Chelsea certainly have the most appealing fixture as they host Norwich City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

That’s why it is no surprise to see Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) top of the latest poll. Even team-mate Timo Werner (£8.6m) makes a rare appearance in the current top five!

However, Mohamed Salah’s (£12.8m) form, paired with Manchester United’s recent defensive struggles, ensure that this week’s captaincy decision maybe isn’t quite as clear-cut as we first thought.

In our video, we also discuss some of the less considered options, such as Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m), Jamie Vardy (£10.6m), Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Harry Kane (£12.1m), all of whom have under 3% backing in the poll.

You can cast your vote on the widget of our home page or below, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future episodes.

Don’t forget to check back for our Captain Sensible article later in the week, which will delve into even more detail on the main runners and riders.

His goal involvement is really low and he plays deep a lot. There are better options elsewhere imo.

    2. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

Pep can only start 5 from 8 in Bilva, KDB, Mahrez, Sterling, Gundo, Foden, Jesus, Grealish

Torres is injured so 5 from 8 is better odds than 5 from 9... but it's still 5 from 8

And that's just to get onto the pitch for 60 minutes

You then have to hope (a) City smash their opposition (never guaranteed despite what some might think - especially around CL games) and (b) the guy you picked is more involved in the smashing than the nailed guy from another side you didn't go with - and then do it all again the next week, and the next... and the next... etc etc

Nailed it. Gundogan last season was a bit of a freak given injuries to other key players and his amazing goal-scoring form. Absolute steal at 5.5m or whatever. A gift from the FPL gods. Unlikely to see that again and City mids are a definite avoid for me.

        1. Bojam
          • 6 Years

Agree with this. Probably his spot to lose though he needs to keep delivering to keep his place when Adams is back and with Armstrong waiting in the wings.

Word of caution though - was hobbling at the end of the game. Took a heavy challenge when scoring the goal. Wait for the presser before deciding whether to bring him in.

    Ramsdale
    Cancelo | Azpilicueta | Rudiger
    Salah | Son | Raphina | Sarr
    Lukaku | Antonio | Toney

    Livramento | White | Brownhill | Foster

    2FT, 0.0M.

I can't see much, apart from perhaps go a couple of weeks early on Sarr --> Mbeumo. Thoughts?

    1. Bojam

Just one week early. Or not early at all. Leicester, this week's opponent, are shipping goals this season. Have conceded 2 or more multiple times. And then it's Burnley, Nowich, Newcastle. Doesn't get much better.

Does this need a WC? 1FT 0.9 ITB. Ditch Ronaldo, Ramsadale goal, bit of reshuffling? Try get Trent back?

    Sanchez (Steele)
    Tierney Cancelo Rudiger (Semedo Livramento)
    Salah Raphinha Sarr Gray (Benrahma)
    Ronaldo Antonio Jimenez
