Who is the best captain for FPL Gameweek 9?

Deputy Editor Tom joined Scoutcast regular Joe earlier today to look at the best captaincy candidates for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in Gameweek 9.

You can watch the video either embedded in this article below or on our YouTube channel.

Chelsea certainly have the most appealing fixture as they host Norwich City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

That’s why it is no surprise to see Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) top of the latest poll. Even team-mate Timo Werner (£8.6m) makes a rare appearance in the current top five!

However, Mohamed Salah’s (£12.8m) form, paired with Manchester United’s recent defensive struggles, ensure that this week’s captaincy decision maybe isn’t quite as clear-cut as we first thought.

In our video, we also discuss some of the less considered options, such as Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m), Jamie Vardy (£10.6m), Son Heung-min (£10.1m) and Harry Kane (£12.1m), all of whom have under 3% backing in the poll.

You can cast your vote on the widget of our home page or below, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified of future episodes.

Don’t forget to check back for our Captain Sensible article later in the week, which will delve into even more detail on the main runners and riders.

    Best pairing on WC?

    1) Lukaku, Foden*
    2) Vardy, Foden*
    3) Jesus, Son

*Foden could be any City mid except KDB.

there wasn't even a proper contact. Jota even pulled back so that he would not push the opponent

Have to say if VAR is overturning stuff like that in Europe at least the PL has got it right with a high threshold for changing decisions

that was a clear dive by Atleti, should have been a yellow card. big compliments to the ref, I wouldn't have had the balls to take that back in front of Simeone. But it was the right call.

I'm sorry but no, Jota stepped across and wasn't looking at the ball, his only intention was to stop Gimenez, it's a soft foul but still a foul

still there was no contact, neither on the upper body nor on the legs
how can this be a foul then?

        1. F4L
          • 9 Years

Jota used his shoulder/arm to nudge him, it's minimal but there's contact.

            • 3 Years

How do we explain corners and free kicks being delivered into the box then. Players have hands all over each other. The contact is minimal if any and was just like a normal touch on his shoulder. The way Atletico carry in to the ref is very annoying. Serves them right imo

            1. F4L
              • 9 Years
              2 years, 5 months ago

agree about Atletico's etiquette, it's trash.

But for the manhandling at set pieces, the big thing is if the player who is fouled was going to get on the end of a corner/FK. Those are normally given, if you're 5-10 yards from where the ball was going there's no eyes on the incident and no one cares.

                • 3 Years

I can see arguments for giving and not giving it. I just don’t think the contact was enough for him to throw himself to ground.

that's fair enough. It's definitely a soft one, was more surprised the decision was overturned tbh even if it was soft, far and away from the clear and obvious used in the Prem.

Does anyone know how price protection works these days?

Rudiger has gone from red flag to yellow (75%). Is he protected, partially protected or not protected until his flag disappears?
