Learning from ‘The Great and The Good’ FPL managers – Gameweek 8

Fantasy Football Scout community writer Greyhead continues with his series of articles analysing the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) transfers and strategies of some noted Fantasy managers, from serial top 10k finishers to well-known faces.

The Great and The Good this year are the Scouts Joe LepperNeale RiggGeoff Dance and Tom Freeman, FPL Wire’s Zophar, from the Hall of Fame Fabio BorgesFPLMatthewYavuz Kabuk and Tom Stephenson, Blackbox’s Az and Mark Sutherns, FPL “celebrities” LTFPL AndyMagnus Carlsen and FPL General plus last year’s mini-league winner Les Caldwell.

“No clue, of what’s happening to you. And before this night is through. Ooh baby the rhythm is gonna get’cha”

Wildcard rhythm spread uncontrollably through The Great and The Good as not one, not two, but five of them threw in their chip.

In other signs of international break madness, some started tracking Raphinha‘s (£6.6m) flight path as he returned to the UK, there was more COVID chaos and Timo Werner (£8.6m) was being considered an option for those with short memories.

Things didn’t get any better with the squad announcements as the ‘Great Benching of 2021’ saw Diogo Jota (£7.5m), Jack Grealish (£7.9m), Ruben Dias (£6.2m), Raul Jimenez (£7.6m), Adam Armstrong (£6.0m), Reece James (£5.5m) and even Brandon Williams (£4.0) getting nothing but splinters in their posteriors.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

‘Jammy’ Joe was top this week with a slightly fortunate or well-planned, depending on your perspective, 71 points, where 13 of those came from his substitutes.

Conor Coady (£4.5m) and Tino Livramento’s (£4.3m) contribution meant he had a full house of defensive returns and a green arrow of 225,000 places.

LTFPL Andy continues to lead the way, opening a 17-point gap but it’s incredibly close with only 20 points separating Tom Stephenson in second and Joe in 13th.

Unfortunately, I gave the commentators curse to Az on Twitter this week as he looked on track to finally overtake Mark, after over a season of trying, with only a narrow gap and two Arsenal players in hand. But sadly it was not to be.

WILDCARDS

Plenty of Wildcard activity with now only two managers left standing holding the most powerful chip in the game, Matthew Jones and Mark Sutherns.

So, how did the famous five, who spent their international break drafting and redrafting, end up when it came to their final squads?

Az

If Neal Maupay (£6.6m) is the answer, then what the hell was the question? Despite last season’s difficult experience with the Brighton striker, Az went back there again. He should really learn from his mistakes, maybe do an awarding podcast on his retrospective Blackbox? Nah, it will never catch on.

One error he did correct was Nelson Semedo (£4.9m), as he was ejected along with ten others to make it a significant overhaul.

Overall, it looks a good squad with depth, and he may need it with rotation risks Phil Foden (£8.0m), Reece James and Joao Cancelo (£6.3m) meaning he may call to the pine a few times over the coming weeks.

The full moves are below:-

IN – Ramsdale, Cancelo, James, Duffy, Alexander-Arnold, Mbeumo, Smith-Rowe, Foden, Raphinha, Lukaku, Maupay

OUT – Sanchez, Azpilicueta, Veltman, Coufal, Semedo, Greenwood, Benrahma, Sarr, Gilmour, Ronaldo, Toney

Fabio Borges

The headline from the Portuguese master is the distinct lack of any Chelsea defenders with Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) the only Blue to make his 15. That alone makes this writer worry at the what the man with the algorithm has spotted about their defence.

A triple up on Brentford catches the eye and he has also doubled down on both Arsenal and City, edging his gamble by holding 1.7 million in the bank should he need to correct course.

The full moves are below:-

IN – Raya, Cancelo, Dias, White, Livramento, Alexander-Arnold, Saka, Mbeumo, Brownhill, Lukaku

OUT – Sanchez, Shaw, Dunk, Rudiger, Ayling, Omobamidele, Son, Benrahma, Bissouma, Ronaldo

FPL General

Interesting here to see the Chelsea players that the General has plumped for, with Mason Mount (£7.4m) preferred to a defender despite his spotty returns this season.

Ben Chilwell‘s (£5.7m) inclusion could yet be a masterstroke if this weekend’s contribution is anything to go by, he is the only one of The Great and The Good to have him in his squad.

The full moves are below:-

IN – Ramsdale, Foster, Alexander-Arnold, Dias, Cancelo, Chilwell, Livramento, Mount, Mbeumo, Raphinha, Toney, Lukaku

OUT – Sanchez, Gunn, Rudiger, Veltman, Ayling, Shaw, Tsimikas, Sarr, Benrahma, Greenwood, Ronaldo, Saint-Maximin

Tom Stephenson

‘Template’ Tom has set the new Wildcard template with a strong selection, although he himself described it as “punty”.

This possibly refers to the rotation threats of James, Cancelo and Foden but it was Ruben Dias (£6.2m) and Adam Armstrong (£6.0m) he should have been more worried about.

Interestingly, he has £0.5m in the bank and I suspect he will use this on Ivan Toney (£6.4m) to backtrack on his Southampton striker.

The full ins and out are below:-

IN – Ramsdale, Foster, Dias, Duffy, James, Cancelo, Foden, Mbeumo, Brownhill, Lukaku, Armstrong

OUT – Sanchez, Steele, Rudiger, Shaw, Semedo, White, Sarr, Benrahma, Greenwood, Ronaldo, Scarlett

Zophar

Zophar must be taking notes from Tom or vice versa as his team is virtually identical, with only the choice of Livramento making him stand apart from the Hall of Famer.

Perhaps the one surprise is that he has only doubled up on his beloved Chelsea, preferring the Man City twin defence.

IN – Ramsdale, Foster, James, Dias, Cancelo, Livramento, Brownhill, Foden, Mbeumo, Armstrong, Lukaku

OUT – Sanchez, Steele, Rudiger, White, Shaw, Semedo, Sarr, Greenwood, Benrahma, Ronaldo, Obafemi

TRANSFERS

This is a summary of the transfers for this week :

Az – Wildcard

LTFPL Andy – Alexander-Arnold (Rudiger)

Fabio Borges – Wildcard

Joe Lepper – None

Geoff Dance – Cancelo (Williams)

FPL General – Wildcard

Les Caldwell – Son, Cancelo (Jota, Alexander-Arnold)

Magnus Carlsen – James (Shaw)

Mark Sutherns – Cancelo (Shaw)

FPL Matthew – Foden, Cancelo (Jota, Rudiger)

Neale Rigg – Dias (Shaw)

Tom Freeman – Foden (Son)

Tom Stephenson – Wildcard

Yavuz Kabuk – None

Zophar – Wildcard

Limited transfers outside of the Wildcarders but Les Caldwell must have insider knowledge as his hit to bring in Son Heung-min (£10.1m) paid off when, despite the Covid scare, he returned yet again, making a mockery of his 14.5% ownership.

FPL Matthew took a now-characteristic hit this Gameweek, he has now taken -12 for the season which goes against a previous conservative style and puts him ahead of some of the more maverick managers in this made-up mini league.

Probably the transfer that wasn’t should also be highlighted, as Joe’s decision to keep Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) paid off with a goal. With Jadon Sancho (£9.0m) still not justifying his price tag, his place looks slightly more secure.

TEMPLATE

The template for The Great and The Good is as follows with number in brackets showing how many teams in which they appear:-

Foster (10), Ramsdale (6)

Cancelo (13), Livramento (12), Alexander-Arnold (11), Rudiger (6), Dias (5)

Salah (15), Raphinha (14), Mbeumo (8), Brownhill (6), Foden (5)

Antonio (15), Lukaku (13), Ronaldo/Armstrong (4)

An explosion in the template with changes galore, the goalkeeper pairing moving from Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) and Jason Steele (£4.0m) to Aaron Ramsdale (£4.6m) and Ben Foster (£4.0m) just the start of several shifts.

Dias and Armstrong join but the previous good value of Luke Shaw (£5.4m) no longer seems to be true and in midfield we see the arrival of woodwork loving Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m), as well as Foden and Josh Brownhill (£4.4m).

WHAT IF….

“Time. Space. Reality. It’s more than a linear path. It’s a prism of endless possibility…follow me and dare to face the unknown. And ponder the question what if….?”

That rather marvellous quote is neat a segue into the bi-annual look back at what might have been for The Great and The Good.

We do this by using the terrifying What if machine to assess what score they would have achieved if they had not made a transfer or captain change throughout the season.

You can see the full table below, but I warn you the results are quite alarming as they show the minimum impact the constant tinkering has had so far, LTFPL Andy leads the way with a 42-point gain from meddling but he and Les Caldwell are the exception rather than the rule.

If you cast your eye towards the bottom of the table, you will see some have even damaged their score because of their transfers and captain choices. Use the link above, if you dare, to see how you would get on.

CONCLUSION

After a week where the bench strength of our squads was tested, I suspect this coming week will drift into the debate of form vs fixtures, with question marks over Lukaku leading many of us to consider the in-form Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) as our captain this weekend.

The other question is whether we continue to ignore the likes of Jamie Vardy (£10.6m) and Son despite the consistency of returns and is the “threemium” option really dead?

Lots to consider but if the ‘What If Machine’ teaches us anything, maybe overthinking is not the answer and maybe it’s as simple as just leaving it well alone.

Anyway, that’s all from me for now and remember don’t have nightmares.

I was reading the transcript of Tuchel's comments about Lukaku, and it struck me...beyond being 'tired mentally,' did it seem to anyone else he was inferring a physical problem? It was right at the end. Maybe trying to throw a bit of misdirection in the mix? Is that Tuchel's style. I don't honestly know. It left me feeling less than confident if i were to be considering Kaku....but, it's freakin Norwich, so maybe it doesn't matter. I'm prepared to accept a brace as a non-owner.

I’m prepared for him to be rested as an owner.
Hadn’t heard any of Tuchel’s comments though.

Think this week's game against Norwich is really tricky re: Lukaku because it can go both ways.
On one hand, it's the perfect game to rest Lukaku, if a rest is needed. But on the other hand, it's also the perfect game for Lukaku to score a few and come back to form as well.
Still looking to put the armband on his this week, but a bit reluctantly tho. Think this decision will go down to the wire this week.

You put it perfectly. It's a fine line. I think it comes down to whether or not he starts vs Malmo. Why not rest him? Chelsea will go through the group surely.

I am not captaining him against Norwich if he starts against Malmo as I really suspect Touchel is going to rest him at some point

Need some help here folks. Want lukaku for his next 3 fixtures but also need to sort out the midfield. Doucoure injured and Jota not starting, plus sarr with his not so favorable fixtures. Any suggestions what to do here? Think a hit might be needed.

    2fts, 1.3m itb

Ronaldo to Luka, Doucoure to Raphinha is a good start.

Sarr and Gallagher are fine this week, Jota sub appearance vs Man Utd probably wont be that bad either. You can use Semedo over Jota if unsure.

Next week, Jota and Antonio to Son and Toney for -4pts.

Sounds right mate. Not too keen on playing jota/ semedo though, both need to go soon. Just not sure if its worth a hit this gw.

      For me:

Ron to Lukaku and Doucoure to Mbeumo seems fine.

Although i did Ron to Vardy to upgrade Scarlett to Toney. Risky yes but Kaku is in questionable form and Vardy and Brentford are in great form.

Think I'm pretty set on getting in luk and raph. Would you dump jota for a hit this gw or just play him and hope he gets some decent minutes? Would have 8.5m itb to get a replacement.

For a hit? No, probably not. Vs United defense there's a chance for something there imo. If I did, it would be for Mbeumo. But that doesn't feel urgently needed. It's close.

Which is a bigger problem that need to be addressed here:

    Sanchez (4.0)
    Alonso* cancelo liv (marcal williams)
    Salah mahrez* jota* gray (sissoko)
    Ronaldo jimmy antonio

I'm thinking jota is more likely to start compared to mahrez

Mahrez is a bigger problem due to price. Marcal can cover for Alonso if required.

Ron-Mah to Son-Luka should be enough.

I’m not a fan of taking hits but I’m considering a -8 this week to set my team up for this and the next few weeks:

I love it but...the rest of your team for full context. Information is king, after all...

Ideally you have one decent option (who gives you a bit of benching dilemma) and two nailed on fodders like Livra and Manquillo. Broja could be good for the 3rd striker spot.

    Current team:
    Sanchez Foster
    Azpi Rudiger Coufal Semedo Veltman
    Salah Bruno Greenwood Raphinha Allan
    Ings Antonio Toney

Contemplating on the following WC moves, exact funds:
    Rudiger + Coufal + Bruno + Greenwood + Ings/Antonio > TAA + Livra + Son + Mbeumo + Vardy

    A. Should I hit WC with above moves (can make other adjustments as well)?
    B. Or should I make use of 2FTs?

      Personally, I hate wasting 2 FT's.
      Think about it
Sanchez and Veltman might do poorly this week.
Cofal a doubt and Semedo not performing.
      Allan a bench warmer
The remainder are all capable of scoring.
You can get in an out of form Lukaku and drop Bruno which would be completely normal or:-
Get Livramento and tidy the defense

What do you make of Jotas benching last night? What are owners doing? I need to sell Jota or Traore for Mbuembo, can’t decide which to remove.

I am keeping, but mostly because i can't afford to move him right now. I'm hopeful he will be involved vs United, and will start him. Firmino's freshness casts doubt over his place, and i used to be comfortable with his involvement.

Think a start, good performance a couple of goals and coming off at 60 mins is probably the best outcome.

90 minutes tonight would be a bit of a red flag - but anything less than 70 should be fine - ideally he's benched

But performance wise - for me he doesn't need to do anything he hasn't already done in his last 260 or so league appearances to get the armband for the weekend

Scoring against Malmo doesn't make him a different player - he's capable of smashing Norwich to bits regardless... his lack of goals recently will be hurting him waaaaaayy more than his FPL owners, so he'll be chomping at the bit to score either way - doesn't guarantee he will of course, but on paper he's the guy this weekend

1 FT 0.3 ITB. Midfield obviously a concern. Which midfielder to ship out first? Any suggestions on what to do here? I'm thinking either

Michail Antonio has 35 goal involvements in his last 42 league starts (34 from play, 1 penalty) for only 7.5... And looks like he's actually added penalties into that mix for this season

And people are selling after 2 games without a goal

A red card will often artificially dampen a player's points for at least 2 weeks - he immediately followed that up with a goal & baps vs Leeds & had 1.1 XGi against Everton at the weekend

I wouldn't really look at that as "form" but each to their own

          Convert to XG? 😉

In his first 3 matches he had 6 big chances ie 2 per game and in his last 4 2 big chances ie 0.5 per game. Any stat can be outstatted. It's presumptuous of you to insist the red card is the cause of people looking n elsewhere, West Ham have gone from looking a devastating attack to a humdrum one. Watch the football!

He's still a good option and hold if you have nowhere to go but please give up asserting why other people have moved on. Arrogant and wrong.

Bit of a belligerent closing to your point but that being said - He got 0.91 XG and 0.17 XA against Everton - and had 35 goal involvements in the 41 starts prior to that... and West Ham's attack was "humdrum" for the vast majority of that period...

I honestly wouldn't be hugely critical of his last 4 matches - Yes he's scored 1 goal - but he has also posted 3.25 XGi across those (using FB refs model, not sure what Understat or Opta's model say - I wouldn't put my house on any of them, but they are interesting reference points)

There are at least a couple of things going on here I think:
            (1) The fact that he couldn't possibly sustain his points output from the first 3 weeks - no one could
            (2) The fact that he got sent off for a total of minus 1 point from GW4 & 5

But forward looking, in an environment where he's not getting sent off every 4 or 5 games, there's very, very little to support selling a 7.5 forward doing that kind of damage - in my opinion of course, hopefully it's not arrogant and wrong 😉

              I don't disagree he's a good choice of course.

Interesting using your metric of returns by starts to look at Callum Wilson. I count 20 in the last 26 starts - rather suspect there's a higher proportion of goals in there. With forwards it's surely the goals are weighted more highly as they bring the baps?

I'm certainly not surprised at Wilson's stats - he is an incredibly good player?

Thinking more about this - maybe (one of) the disconnect(s) between you & I here (and generically) is sample size

Personally I *hate* (absolutely hate) small samples - and will generally try to use a larger sample where possible - 3 or 4 games isn't even really enough to classify as a sample in the majority of cases (again, in my opinion), and I genuinely think anyone holding Antonio's last 4 games up to the light & concluding "hmmm it appears he has broken" is sorely misguided

It's also why I wouldn't put as much weight on 20 games of Callum Wilson as I would on 40 games of Antonio etc (And I rate Callum Wilson very highly)

It's kind of like the other day when you threw the barb about Raphinha having less points than Bernardo Silva as the strawman that somehow invalidated my point about City Midfielders being fools gold (my point was "silly" and i should "enlighten" people i think was how you classified that eureka moment - but I wouldn't go around calling other people arrogant & wrong if I was positioning points in that manner)

I didn't bother replying because you again totally missed the point, but (similar to the Shaw situation described below) Raphinha's 31 points, him being an absolutely jaw-droppingly great FPL choice, and City midfielders being fool's gold are not mutually exclusive - the existence of any of those doesn't negate the existence of any other - similar to Wilson being a very prolific scorer, and there being very little to support selling Antonio

This. MBP was advocating Luke Shaw as an under priced gem, a season keeper at 5.5, what a flop, essay upon essay we got pre season about the corners, and free kicks, are you still holding Shaw, for what it’s worth MBP????

You know Shaw was an incredibly good pick, right? He had the fixtures, he had set pieces in the second top scoring attack in the league, he had a world class defender added to his defence - and he was in pretty much every FPL team as a result

New information subsequently came to light with each passing gameweek, and you have to react to that new information, that's how FPL works

If we go back to pre-season with the same information to hand I'm picking Shaw 100% of the time - and so would pretty every other manager with half a brain

Because I don't expect Antonio to keep getting sent off every 4 or 5 games, whereas I do expect Man Utd's defence to be under pressure with Varane out and a fixture list that contains Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal in their next 5 league games sandwiched between 3 must win champions league games vs Atalanta twice & Villareal?

Antonio has done well in his last 42 starts though - 34 returns from play + 1 penalty?

And seems to have added penalty taking duties to that mix…

                  And he’s 7.5 not 12.5…

I think he’s an easy sell when (not if - when) the injury comes - but when he’s fit it looks a bit like people are expecting the red card and ban to keep repeating themselves, rather than the 42-starts either side of it

Last 42 starts? LMAO, if I took that same historical attitude with players I'd still have for example Luke Shaw still in my team 😉

Plus Antonio's not on penalties 😆

You know it, I know it, he knows it and so does Declan Rice...

I don't think so - Luke Shaw's last 42 starts haven't exactly been stellar - he was more of a forward looking prospect - his XGI per 90 for example was only behind Cancelo and TAA last season, he just struggled last season to translate that into attacking returns but in pre-season it was yet another tick in the "for" box along with all the other factors above (the fixtures, the fact that he had set pieces for one of the most lethal attacks in the league, the addition of Varane, the price tag etc etc)

And it's not even as if he started diabolically either - by GW4 he was on 4 PPG despite conceding three single goals... that's 152 points on a 38 game season... not exactly terrible for 5.5

The Ronaldo signing was definitely an unforseen black swan event, and hasn't helped the team - and his injury in GW6 didn't exactly help things either

But the point I would really stress here as it's important - Shaw being an excellent pick in preseason, and then gradually deteriorating into more of a problem are definitely not mutually exclusive

And similarly with the information we have to hand, the only reason I can think for people selling Antonio is that the red card and ban that have impacted his trailing 4-5 game points output are being taken as "normal" events that are going to carry forwards into his future performances (which they're obviously not - they are exceptions)

Regarding penalties - I'm not 100% sure he's on them, and not 100% sure he's off them - especially considering he took the last one while Rice was on the pitch... obviously he missed it - but that's why I said firstly "it looks like he's on penalties" and secondly "seems to have added penalties" rather than "You know it, I know it, he knows it" etc 🙂

Just to say that Luke Shaw was a fantastic pick to start the season and will be a great pick again when united's fixtures turn back in GW15 or so. People reading way, way too much into short samples as usual.

Thank you - At least someone gets it

So many on here (and elsewhere) seem to have real trouble differentiating the outcome of a decision with the logic that underlies it

Cold, hard points in the last 2 or 3 weeks, maybe 4 weeks at a stretch - and no matter how affected (or not) by factors one could reasonably consider anomalous - are *all* that seem to carry weight

As I was saying to someone the other day who felt "the decision to go without TAA for the last few GW's has been very decent" - it's more that the *results* from going without were decent... the logic - I don't think was particularly sound at all

Someone who makes a decision to walk across a busy motorway blindfolded and pissed out of their head, for example can make it to the other side unscathed and can also say "the results from my decision were pretty decent so it must have been a good decision"

But do we really want to make a habit of walking across busy motorways, pissed out of our heads and blindfolded?

TAA got injured and was sick - that's just luck - he also has 89 returns and 83 bonus in his last 102 league starts... that carries more weight (for me anyways) than three gameweeks wrecked by random illness and injury

Antonio got sent off, was banned, scored, blanked, and put up 1.1 XGi respectively in his last 5 gameweeks...and had 35 returns in the 38 starts prior to the red card, which again carries more weight (for me at least)

*And that's 1.1 XGi in a single game vs Everton - not in 5 games obvs

But he is on 1 goal from his last 3.25 XGi from FBref - again, do people really think Antonio is going to continue scoring one goal from every 3.25 XGi... I'm not so sure

So because in your opinion Luke Shaw was a good pick at the start of the season why have people sold him then?

Let me help you out on this one...

Shaw has returned 20 points over the last 8 GWs. On your logic I should still have him because he was a good pick and at at some point in the future will be a good pick again? 😆

Same as Antonio was a good pick at the start of the season. You've seen what he's done over the last 5 GWs but according to you I'm supposed to keep him regardless because he'll come good at some stage in the future?

                        No thanks!

You keep him if you want...

Because (as I pointed out a few hours ago) Luke Shaw being a good pick at the start of the season, and him gradually and unexpectedly deteriorating into a problem as the weeks passed are not mutually exclusive?

I also didn't say "you should still have Luke Shaw" btw

He was a good pick at the start of the season because of his fixtures. He’s now a bad pick due to his fixtures. He’ll be a good pick again in the future….you see where I’m going with this.

I think when looking forwards at players it's important to try to factor out things you expect to continue vs. things you don't - the Red card for example is a bit of a factor there too - not sure he'll keep getting sent off every 5 games?

I was lucky with his triple haul in the first 3 GWs; since then he's returned once, at a rate of 2 points per game - that's the last 5 games; long enough to determine this is not a blip.

Was the red card and subsequent ban something you expect him to keep doing regularly?

5 games is not long enough to determine anything about anyone, especially not someone like Antonio who has been an xG monster for so long and doesn't look like slowing down on that front.

5 games is a tiny sample size and barely worth considering in football.

Good argument Maximus but as a matter of interest:
1)How were the 42 games spread out? (injuries etc)
2)What was his record prior to those 42 games?
3)Has he been tested with Euro games on top recent bad form? This is what is coming up for him.

Note my grav. Just asking (smile)

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus

Yep all have to be taken into consideration

        1) The 42 starts were 100% punctuated by his fairly regular injuries - and he turns into more of an easy sell when the inevitable injury comes - But (like red cards) I don't really want to be trying to predict when an uncertain/quasi-random event like an injury will hit

        2) Prior to the 42 starts he was positionally all over the place, playing in mad places like right back - something clicked with him back in Feb'20 - the beginning of the 42 start sample which seemed to signal the arrival of this version of Michail Antonio. Personally, I don't think the red card has signalled a reversion to the pre-Feb'20 Michail Antonio, I could be wrong of course, but there doesn't seem to be a lot/any evidence for it

        3) How are West Ham doing in their Europa League group - are they under pressure after a bad start, or have they 6 points from 6 with one foot in the next round and can rest players?

I have him and am 50/50 about moving him on to a safer option with better fixtures and opens up an opportunity for me to get Son (The timing in 2 weeks seems perfect for me) You answered my questions well. Thank you.

Sure - personally I have yet to see an argument that holds water for selling him

What may end up happening is that he gets injured and we get a lot of "see, I told you he was a good sell" - or he goes on getting 1 return from every 3.25 XGi (the current micro-run he's on) and *THEN* gets injured - but that's benefitting from luck imo, no one can reliably predict when any player is going to get injured or dramatically undershoot the expected goal involvement for a couple of games

And in an environment where Antonio isn't injured (or suspended) he has consistently shown for approaching 2 years now that he is an absolutely devastating FPL asset

Only my opinion of course 🙂

Yep, agreed - he’s a massive keep for me. The fixtures don’t put me off at all as he can thrive in games where he’s part of a counter too. He’s got to be about 3m underpriced based on form so far this season. I can’t think of anyone that looks like doing enough to justify losing Antonio for them.

Sold before Brentford. Didn’t blank for me as captain, twice.

Keeping Ronaldo hasn’t worked out, but made the transfer based on Antonio’s fixtures.

          Arsenal 9th or 10th, Palace 13th.

There is no big difference between them so that certainly wasn't easy fixture for Arsenal and they for sure haven't improved defensively. People were only blinded by a few clean sheets against Norwich, Burnley and Brighton who are possibly the worst attacking teams and they should have conceded even against them.

Let alone fixtures against Villa and Leicester...

I'm sure I remember you saying 'same level or above' - but your predictions don't suggest that. Now it's 'not an easy fixture' - which is it?

I don't think anyone is expecting Arsenal to keep a clean sheet away at Leicester. I think the issues people had were more you saying that Palace were the same level or above Arsenal which just isn't true - even by your own admission.

I'd say he's a sell if you don't have any other fires to put out, can move the money to a midfielder, or bring him down to a hwang or toney & upgrade midfield/defence
But, he won't be the first name of my sale players list, hell i might even sell Trollukaku before antonio. I'm holding for a few weeks personally, antonio out is a luxury transfer, don't have any of them personally

Selling him ahead of GW11 and Liverpool (H), bringing him back when the fixtures turn great in GW18. As always, playing the fixtures matters.

The logic of people looking at a 4 game sample size to justify their biases and give a definition of "form" is absurd.

He has .95 npxG+xA this season, 5 goals and 4 assists in 7 games. Still an absolutely fantastic player and FPL asset, has just suffered from the fixtures turning more difficult - but that's an issue every player suffers from, because nobody is fixture proof.

And the correct answer was… KEEP - well done to everyone who had “Keep” as their answer

We would also have accepted “Buy”, but “Sell” gets you nothing unfortunately

So - That’s it for this week’s round of “Should we all sell unbelievable FPL asset who hasn’t scored for 2 weeks”, be sure to tune in for more next week!

    Raya Foster
    TAA Cancelo Chilwell Duffy Livra
    Salah Foden Raph Mbuemo Brownhill
    Lukaku Antonio Toney

Considering Lukaku to Vardy or Antonio down and Foden to Son

    What do you reckon?

My wildcard game week 4 has been mostly successful but I did go with Bachman and foster which was a mistake, don’t ask!

Do you think it’s worth biting the bullet and hitting Bachman out for a better keeper or hold and hope ranieri can do something ?

They have to keep a CS some time right ?

    Re: Armstrong

Saw somewhere that, Armstrong being rested against Leeds wasn't anything else but purely. Him being similar to Ings, Ings too was benched against Leeds both last season(though came off the bench both times). May be it's Hasenhuttl's tactics to not want to play an Ings/Armstrong styled striker against Leeds? And looking forward, Armstrong and Broja have played together upfront this season(with Broja replacing Che mostly). So, it may not be a case of one or the other either.

    Thoughts?

Maybe but if I play him it will be for Christensen or sarr who I both don’t mind starting and are either nailed or won’t cameo

I think if you have a good enough bench then you bench him but starting him isn’t the worst thing in the world either
