Scout’s Gameweek 9 picks for FanTeam – win over £1,000 from a £1.68 entry

Sponsored by FanTeam

We’re back for another shot at FanTeam‘s latest Weekly Monster, in which Fantasy managers can turn a £1.68 entry fee into a £1,260 cash windfall.

The Weekly Monster is a Fantasy tournament that effectively gives entrants the chance to build a ‘Free Hit’ squad for Gameweek 9 and win big.

There is a kitty of £10,500 (or €12.5k) to play for, with prizes awarded down to 1,000th place and beyond.

The deadline is at 15:00 GMT on Saturday.

For those with a bit more money to spend, there is a sister tournament with exactly the same rules that costs £10.08 to enter and offers a prize pool of £42,000.

Head to the FanTeam lobby and look for the ‘Gameweek 9 €50K EPL Weekly Monster [€5K to 1st place]’ link (seen above) to choose your level of entry.

A brief how-to-play guide is featured beneath our picks.

SCOUT PICKS FOR GAMEWEEK 9

With Chelsea assets not available due to the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, we have opted for FPL premiums such as Harry Kane (8.7m), Jamie Vardy (9.2m) and Son Heung-min (9.0m) who are favourably priced in this week’s FanTeam. The Spurs duo love facing West Ham and will hope to repeat their returns from last Sunday’s trip to Newcastle.

Vardy is the first name that comes to mind when replacing the injured Romelu Lukaku. He is the league’s joint-top scorer with seven goals and his Leicester side have scored at least twice in each of their last three league outings, as well as Wednesday evening’s heroic 4-3 win at Spartak Moscow.

Crystal Palace look impressive under Patrick Vieira and were denied a win at his former club Arsenal due to an injury-time equaliser. Odsonne Edouard (9.5m) thundered in a shot off the crossbar – his third goal from just 267 minutes – and will be excited to face a Newcastle side yet to either win or keep a clean sheet, hence the double-up with Wilfried Zaha (9.6m). In fairness to the Magpies, scoring themselves doesn’t tend to be a problem, netting in 15 of their last 17 league matches. Star man Allan Saint-Maximin (7.9m) therefore gets the nod.

Raphinha (9.1m) is back from starring for Brazil, as Leeds face Wolves, with defence covering both sides of the Southampton v Burnley spectacle – Tino Livramento (7.6m) and Nick Pope (6.3m). Everton aren’t known for their clean sheets but Rafael Benitez will drill his side to match their 2-0 win over Norwich in Gameweek 6, boosting Michael Keane‘s (8.5m) potential. And Ruben Dias (9.2m)? He’s a defender for Manchester City, so nothing much needs to be said – six clean sheets and the fewest shots conceded (49) by far.

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

Slightly different from the usual squad-based games, FanTeam managers are given a budget of €95m to build a team of 11 players that includes at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward.

A maximum of three players are allowed from one club and captains score double points, as usual.

Here are some other minor differences to the otherwise easy-to-play game:

  • There is no bench or manual substitutes; instead, there is a ‘Safety Net’ feature. If a player in your Fantasy team isn’t in the starting XI for their side, they will automatically be substituted for the next priced player from the same position and club.
  • A ‘Stacking Penalty’ is given if you have two or more defensive players from the same club and they keep a clean sheet. One point is deducted for each additional asset that you select from the same side.

HOW DOES THE SCORING WORK?

FPL managers looking for a way to make their knowledge pay will have no trouble picking up FanTeam‘s Gameweek 9 Weekly Monster, with its familiar scoring system.

Think of it as FPL without the bonus points, with a few other exceptions such as shots on target and winning/losing impact points – detailed in the graphic above.

I’ll say one thing, FFS has reigned in the gambling ads since getting complaints in 2020.

FanTeam is a bookmaker but it doesn’t offer a casino, which I think is a big plus if you find those compulsive, and most of it involves picking a team and cheap entry. It’s still a bookie, but I don’t think it’s as evil as the high street chains.

Thing with Antonio, do not see other forwards in his price range which can offer more.

Nacho is interesting me though which would mean double up with Vardy. Going to see how Leicester line up and take it from there.

Other options are switching to 352 or go back heavy.

Do not need to make any changes for GW10 though, pending player availability etc.

Yep, at least until the likes of DCL and Bambam are back. Wilson is one to monitor, and I like his fixtures GW14-17, may jump the wagon a bit early.

Antonio to Toney is a possibility for me since I play 352/442 atm, but giving it a week or two since I'm not totally impressed with his FPL potential. I'm gambling with the shot term CHE fixtures to exploit first

Comments from Tuchel like this is what put me off him. Tuchel doesn’t have confidence in him. I’m not saying Kai won’t play, Tuchel doesn’t have much options but I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes off the bench either.

The Blues boss said: "Kai started strong this season, had a good pre-season. But he lacks the statistics of decisive things – goals and assists – and he needs to fight his way back into the team when he gets minutes."

It was very clear that the displays of Hudson-Odoi and Havertz were not isolated. They appeared to look for one another naturally during the second period.

It's a connection Chelsea have seen before when the German international put a stupendous ball in for Hudson-Odoi to slot in a consolation goal against Manchester City in January.

    Havertz in 7.8% of teams.

Ronaldo holders what are you thinking for next week?

    1. Ginkapo FPL
      • 12 Years

My view on Ronaldo has always been that at his pricetag he must be a regular captain or you shouldnt own. With Salah shining I cant see any justification for owning

That’s fair mate, but looking at this next week in isolation it doesn’t seem right to spend a transfer on it purely for that reason when I could possibly roll one

I have two free transfers and I'm not sure what to do TBH. I get the too expensive to own if you won't captain point and I might want to captain Kane down the line so I'm pondering an early move for Kane and then having two transfers for GW11.

I think it depends on your outlook.

If you are a glass half full or empty person.

Some people highly personalise what happens in premier league football around the country each weekend, like its a curse they have cast! It gets a bit much.

It's just a bit of fun on top of the actual football itself. I know some don't see it like that though.

Thought on Jimenez starting? Just mind game? He even wanted to play last gw

    On managing Jimenez’s hectic schedule

“That’s the balance we need to find. We both agreed, me and the Mexican national coach, we don’t want an injured Raul. He managed well, Raul played 90, after 60 and after 30, but my concern is about the travel.

“He travelled and arrived on Friday, and when you look at him, he needs to recover and sleep. On Saturday, I looked at him and he said he feels OK, but I need to take my decisions. When I sent him to warm up, every time I looked, he said he was OK, but inside I want to help the team. We need to take the best decisions.

“In the future, I think the best thing to do is day by day, we manage him, it’s important for us and Mexico. We don’t want an injured Raul. We want to take the best for him in the Premier League, and it’s proud for us and also for the fans to see Raul play for Mexico at a World Cup.

“Let’s see [if he will play against Leeds]. He’s training, he feels ok, so tomorrow I take my decision. But he will travel with us.”

Doesn't make sense to be tired a WEEK after thr exertions unless something else is going on.

Mind games. Lage would be foolish not to start him.
