Salah continues best-ever start to FPL season as Klopp discusses rotation

We continue our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 9 Scout Notes with analysis of Manchester United v Liverpool.

For a briefer summary of all six of Saturday’s games, click here, while the footer at the bottom of this piece will direct you to our detailed Scout Notes on the other Gameweek 9 action.

MANCHESTER UNITED 0-5 LIVERPOOL

  • Goals: Naby Keita (£5.0m), Diogo Jota (£7.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) x3
  • Assists: Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Keita, Jota, Jordan Henderson (£5.0m)
  • Red cards: Paul Pogba (£7.6m)
  • Bonus: Salah x3, Keita x2, Alexander-Arnold x1

SALAH SHINES… AGAIN

Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) kept up his relentless FPL form with a hat-trick and assist as Liverpool recorded a thumping 5-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

As a result, the Egyptian bagged his sixth double-digit haul of the campaign, which means that he has now equalled last year’s tally in just nine Gameweeks.

He’s now an astonishing 50 FPL points clear of any other player, having reached his century quicker than in any of his four previous seasons at Anfield. Just to underscore how exceptional his form is, he only passed the 100 mark after Gameweek 15 of his record-breaking 2017/18 campaign.

As for the Reds, a second consecutive 5-0 away win ensures that they have scored at least three goals in all eight of their road trips this term, while overall, they also rank top in all of the key attacking metrics.

JOTA HITS DOUBLE DIGITS AS MANE BENCHED

Salah maintains excellent form, Klopp on rotation, Man Utd’s struggles: FPL notes from Liverpool’s win

Diogo Jota (£7.5m), who started alongside Salah and Roberto Firmino (£8.9m) in attack, racked up 11 FPL points via a goal and assist, but is still yet to receive a single bonus point this season.

As the Portuguese featured on the left of Liverpool’s front three, that meant Sadio Mane (£11.9m) had to settle for a place on the bench, which manager Jurgen Klopp touched on in his post-match interview:

“We have to use the squad, that’s how it is. In a game like this, you don’t want to be changing six or seven times. But Diogo (Jota) before the international break was in outstanding scoring form then went to the national team, slightly injured and needed a little bit of time to come back.”

Klopp also explained his decision to hand Ibrahima Konate (£5.1m) his second Premier League start of the season, and therefore drop Joel Matip (£5.0m), ahead of kick-off:

“Ibrahima is training at the highest level and, of course, Joel is a great player, but we cannot just push it through all the time. We saw a few things where we thought it would be a good game for Ibrahima. Hopefully he will have a good game.”

Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m) bagged his third double-digit haul of the season courtesy of an assist and clean sheet, though the one blemish on an otherwise perfect day was an injury to the impressive Naby Keita (£5.0m).

“We have to see how serious it is. It was very painful but we’ll see. We won’t know until tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.” – Jurgen Klopp on Naby Keita’s injury

After their win, Liverpool remain unbeaten in 13 matches this season across all competitions and are one point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea heading into Gameweek 10.

UNITED COLLAPSE

Man Utd were booed off the pitch at Old Trafford on Sunday, after suffering a humiliating defeat to their rivals.

While we had flagged the Red Devils’ worrying defensive numbers last week, which had seen them concede four at Leicester City and twice against Atalanta during the run-up to this game, the nature of this collapse was remarkable, as United had largely been good against the big sides last season.

However, they were outclassed in every area in Gameweek 9, and as a result, have now taken just one point from their last four matches, with a goal difference of -8 during that time.

They have also conceded more big chances than every other team aside from Newcastle United and Norwich City, which could be good news for Harry Kane (£12.1m) and Son Heung-min (£10.2m) on Saturday, though they will of course need to improve themselves.

Man Utd rank 18th for big chances conceded so far this season, with 22.

To compound United’s misery, they were reduced to 10 men when Paul Pogba (£7.6m) was shown a straight red card for serious foul play following a heavy challenge on Keita. The Frenchman is now suspended for three Premier League matches and will miss the meetings with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Watford.

Man Utd XI: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Greenwood (Pogba 45), Fernandes (Cavani 62), Rashford (Dalot 62), Ronaldo

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Keita (Oxlade-Chamberlain 63), Milner (Jones 27), Salah, Jota, Firmino (Mane 76)

If it wasnt arsenal I think they would 100% rest vardy as daka and nacho are great options to fill in. With vardys age I think its 50/50 as I dont think its any major, I mean he played 45 minutes. Raphinha looked bad so dont think he starts

      GW9 Mini-League Leaders:

This is a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after a high-scoring Gameweek 9 .

      ** FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

Srecko Kurtovic is the new leader in the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league ( https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) after scoring 131 with double digit contributions from Salah(C), Foden, Smith Rowe, James, Chilwell and TAA, and has risen over 500 place to 6th overall, having wildcarded in Gameweek 8.

This is now the Second Best League in FPL, based on the average scores of the top five managers in each league (youtube.com/letstalkfpl is still first). Our new top five are Srecko Kurtovic, Martins Kingulis, Dirty Dave, Temidayo Bankole and Mudit Malik, all of whom are in the overall top 50.

      ** FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

Daniel Masson-Abraham leads for a third week in the Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c), which is also open to all. The league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home Page when signed in, but only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes.

Daniel is the new world number one with an 18 point lead over Ryan Agalawatta after scoring 122 with double digit contributions from Salah(C), Mount, Chilwell and TAA.

      ** LAST MAN STANDING

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).

The highest scorer in Gameweek 9 was Joanna Czyz with 138 points (double digit contributions from Salah(C), Mount, Foden and TAA) after Livramento and White were promoted from her bench, and has risen to 1,727th overall.

The safety score was 64, with 155 teams to be removed and 1,967 going through to Gameweek 10. It will remain open till Gameweek 22, but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (Home - torresmagiclms.simplesite.com) to qualify.

      ** HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

Martin Stubbs still leads League 1 in MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues (www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/head-to-head-leagues/) with 21 points, despite losing to Ville Tuominen (Santigold) in his latest match..

Curtis Ledger and Ikhwan Aryandi in League 6 both have the maximum total of 27 points after nine straight wins, and so do five managers in League 7, 11 in League 8 and 16 in League 9.

      ** TOPS AND VETS

Dirty Dave leads for a sixth week in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1378/standings/c, league code kgmryk) and is now 24th overall.

Diana Walker is the new leader in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1386/standings/c, league code 03t1fd), which is for teams with two or more top 10,000 finishes, after captaining Mount (who equalled Salah’s score of 24). She had three top 5k finishes in four seasons between 2009/10 to 2012/13 and is currently 3,224th overall..

Apart from an interloper who has never finished in the top 100k, the new leader in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/10031/standings/c, league code 01ef8y) is Blair Paterson, who scored 123 with double digit contributions from Salah(C), Mount, Foden and TAA. He has had five top 7k finishes, the best of which was 868th in 2017/18, and is currently 1,055th overall.

2018/19 FPL champion Adam Levy leads for a second week in Simon March’s FPL Champions League (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/2594/standings/c) and has risen to 5,334th overall.

Need some help with priorities, which one to get in:

      a) TAA (Have Salah, Jota)

      b) Chilwell (Have James)

really easy? Chilwell should outscore TAA over the next few though

But TAA is a season keeper I do get that, but timing could be vital in this situation

Probably easier to post full team. Anything worth a hit here with 0.7 itb ?

      Sanchez
      Trent, Chillwell, Livramento
      Salah, Zaha, Raphina, Benrahma
      Ronaldo, Antonio, Toney

      Steele, Semedo, Reguillon, Bissouma

Considering Semedo to James but also waiting for news on Raphina

                    I'm considering Sá / Semedo --> Raya / TAA (-4) this week

The fixtures and their overall defensive stats. I do think Sanchez is a great option regardless of fixtures though as he showed against City

I'd long time fully intended to sell Sanchez for Raya last GW, but Lukaku and other injuries left me with the decision to either take a hit for a keeper, or cross my fingers v City. Now I'll stomach a Liverpool thrashing and lot of saves, and then carry on with a decent run of fixtures. Doubt he'll leave my squad before my late-season 2nd wildcard.

      Sanchez
      Livramento - Chilwell - Azpilicueta
      ESR - Foden - Salah - Jota - Gray
      Toney - Antonio
      (Steele - Lukaku - Semedo - Williams)

Lukaku to who for a hit, or should I keep and do it next week?
Thinking Jesus, Auba, Vardy or even Firmino?

      Alisson
      Trent Rudiger Chilwell Cancelo
      Mount Salah Foden
      Vardy Broja Jesus

      Foster Livra Rice Hojbjerg

This is as solid as it can get for triple up on LFC, CHE and City. Every spot loaded with points. Bench solid. I cannot help myself as have exact cash to pull off this monstrosity 🙂

Looking at 5 at the back next week. A few guys I'd like to change.
Would you just keep as is or take hit(s) or even WC and be done with it?

      Sanchez.
      TAA, Rudiger, Chilwell, Livramento, Cancelo.
      Salah, Raphinha,
      Vardy, Jimenez, Anthonio.

Hey lads, hope you all had a good GW.

Thoughts on what I should do here?

      Sanchez
      Cancelo Chilwell Livramento
      Salah Mount Sarr Gray Greenwood
      Vardy Antonio

      Steele Marcal Alonso Scarlett

      3.1m to spare with 1ft.

      Thinking of:

      1) Vardy > Wilson / Kane
      2) Greenwood > Foden
      3) Alonso > TAA

      4) Combo of 1/2/3 for -4
