FPL injury news on White, Raya, Mbeumo, Raphinha, Chelsea players and more

Many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will be waking up to more yellow flags or worse on Wednesday morning thanks to some key injury updates before and after the midweek EFL Cup ties.

We’ll round up the headline news in the article below.

RAPHINHA

There was positive news from Marcelo Bielsa after Leeds United’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, with the Whites’ boss saying that he thought injuries to Raphinha and Jamie Shackleton “won’t affect their participation” in Gameweek 10.

CESAR AZPILICUETA, ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN

Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante all sat out the penalty shootout victory over Southampton on Tuesday, with the first three of those missing out on probable starts according to their manager.

Kante had previously been passed fit for this encounter after missing Gameweek 9 as a precaution, while the news sounds positive on the other sidelined trio.

“We hope Azpi is back for the weekend. He had a shoulder injury yesterday in training when he fell on it. It’s very painful but he’s Azpi and he’s a tough guy.”

“Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] felt after training some pain in his hip joint. Hopefully, we can handle it for Saturday.

“Andreas [Christensen] needed to recover from tooth surgery and he should be back in training on Thursday if there are no complications.” – Thomas Tuchel

There were six changes to the Blues’ starting XI from the team that thrashed Norwich 7-0, with Reece James, Kai Havertz, Trevoh Chalobah, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mateo Kovacic keeping their places and all lasting 90 minutes.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell appeared as second-half substitutes.

BEN WHITE, KIERAN TIERNEY, MARTIN ODEGAARD

There was also encouraging news on Ben White, who appeared to be injured when walking gingerly from the field of play in Arsenal’s win over Leeds.

Mikel Arteta later revealed that it was merely illness had forced the England international off, and went on to provide an update on missing pair Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard.

“There’s a bug going around. We lost Pablo [Mari] today because he wasn’t feeling great. Ben had it for the last day or two. He wasn’t feeling great so we decided to take him off.” – Mikel Arteta on Ben White

“They were both out with two different injuries. They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great. They wanted to be involved. Hopefully in the next few days, they can feel better and be available for Leicester.” – Mikel Arteta on Kieran Tierney/Martin Odegaard

DAVID RAYA, BRYAN MBEUMO, ETHAN PINNOCK

Brentford aren’t in EFL Cup action until tonight but they have been dealt a big injury blow in advance of their meeting with Championship side Stoke City, with David Raya set to miss the next four to five months after sustaining a knee ligament injury at the tail-end of the Bees’ defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.

Álvaro Fernández, who disappointingly comes in at £4.5m rather than half a million cheaper, now looks set to deputise between the posts.

Bryan Mbeumo and Ethan Pinnock will miss Wednesday’s cup tie but could be back for the weekend.

“Bryan Mbeumo and Ethan Pinnock will be out for [the EFL Cup on] Wednesday. Hopefully, they are available for Saturday, it is too early to say yet.

“Bryan [Mbeumo] is a minor hamstring issue. It is not a big one because that would rule him out for the next couple of weeks. We took him off as it was the early stages so, hopefully, he can be available for Saturday.” – Thomas Frank

OTHER INJURIES

We should find out more on Jamie Vardy‘s knee issue before or after Leicester City’s cup clash with Brighton and Hove Albion, who will hand Adam Webster a start on his return from injury.

Liverpool have a raft of problems in central midfield, with assistant manager Pep Lijnders providing an update on several key personnel ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Preston North End.

“Millie felt something, he felt something wasn’t right in his hamstring, a little bit tight. “Then [Mason] Greenwood made this run and he decides, ‘I need to catch him’ – how Millie is, putting the team always first. And that created a bigger injury in that moment, that run.It shows a lot about his character and his will power to put the team first. This [injury] will be until the international break for sure, so it’s a long one. But we will need him in the coming period.

“Naby has a bruise in this moment, we assess it day by day. It’s looking good, so that’s good.

“Fabinho will not be ready for tomorrow’s game, we will assess him day by day still. He can make the game on Saturday hopefully.

“Then we have Thiago as well, who is closer to team training than ever. He will be later in the week with the team training. Probably Brighton comes too early but it’s good that he is back, especially in the situation we are in.” – Pep Lijnders

Matt Doherty being declared available was the only injury update of note from Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of Spurs’ trip to Burnley, who expect to have Ben Mee back after his recent Covid-19 diagnosis.

Still about 4 transfers away from where I want to be, but I feel my team is getting there.

Over the coming weeks I need to do:
            Grealish > Mbuemo/ESR
            Jimi > Toney
            Marcal > Chilly
            Vardy > Kane

Probably will do it in 2x 4pters (provided I don't get any other injuries)

Moves looking good? Any that I need to do this week for a hit?

Is this site playing up or is it just my computer somehow?

The drop down green menu bar at the top is constantly dropped down and there is even a little 'go' button where the comments begin that I've never seen before.

If Azpi is out for this gameweek-marcal also yellow flag-should we:

-keep Azpi play sub (marcal or Willams sadly) hoping he may still play.
    -Sell Azip for Trent
-Sell Marcal for Chillwell or 6.3 def and under.

Marcal might not start even if fit. So Marc to Chillwell or other starting DEF looks like the better move, maybe still keep the option to do Azpi to TAA next week?

Thanks man. I was originally looking to transfer Marcal to Chillwell then Azpi out to get in TAA somehow.

TAA could score big again and honestly I dont think CHelsea will keep a cs against Newcastle as Wilson's back. Which is mad I know but its just this feeling.

          What's thought's on Cresswell?

I'd say CS potential is not great in the next 5 tbf. He's still getting up the field quite a lot but Chelsea options at WB better short term I think.

Yeah, I think I'll leave it to Friday regardless of price rises and decide then whether TAA or Chilwell. Hope fully Azpi is fit then it'll be easier. Thanks man.

    TAA Cancelo Rudiger
    Salah(C) Son Foden Raphinha
    Antonio Jimenez Toney

    Foster; Christensen, Livramento, Brownhill

    0FT 0.3ITB

Team in great shape. Unfortunately not enough money to do Christensen -> James next week. Would you do Rudiger -> Chilwell? Probably going to downgrade Christensen in GW11 to Lamptey.

    How's this for a WC?

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Chilwell Rudiger Laporte Henry
    Salah Mane Son Foden ESR
    Antonio Toney Gelhardt

It's for FanTeam. If I wanted to upgrade Laporte > Cancelo where do I lower?

    Mane > Rashford
    Mane > Havertz
    Mane > Jota
    ESR > Kovacic

Still think Mane is worth. He's 10.4m in the game.

    Current team:

    Sanchez (Begovic)
    TAA Cancelo Rudiger Livramento (White)
    Salah Greenwood Raphinha Sarr (Benrahma)
    Vardy Antonio (Scarlett)

Got 2m in bank and 1 FT. What would you do?

    A. White to Chilwell (Bench Sarr, Livra or Greenwood)
    B. Greenwood to Foden/Mount/Havertz
    C. Benrahma to Foden/Mount/Havertz
    D. Sarr to Foden/Mount/Havertz

Chilwell for goal potential and Cancelo for assists.

I like the Chelsea defense but even more rotation risk. Chilwell saves you 0.5m too.

Most on here and the game prefer Cancelo. Twice as many in fact.

    TAA Cancelo Rudiger
    Salah (C) Havertz* Raphina* Mbeumo*
    Auba Jesus Antonio
    ____
    Foster Tomiyasu Brownhill Fodder

0 FT with two yellow flags and Havertz maybe a rotation risk.

Looking at TAA's ownership of only 25%

Assuming no injuries to him or liverpool's core defensive personnel (Allison, VVD, Fabinho etc) he's really looking likely to be smashing the 8.0 barrier at some point this season if he keeps doing what he's been doing for his last 100 or so games

That 25% will become 30% with another haul or two, then 35% with the next haul, then 40% etc etc

Could conceivably be approaching 8.5 by end of season

Bit higher amongst 'active' teams (EO by tier below), but definitely still room for ownership to grow given many took him out due to the injury and red fixtures. To be fair Chilwell is covering him pretty nicely for anyone who made the switch.

That's an interesting picture alright, you can see that the managers with TAA weight more & more towards higher rankings

That disparity should continue to grow with time assuming the likes of VVD, Allison ( and TAA himself obvs) stay fit

This week makes or breaks Reece James.

If he starts it's really encouraging news for his place in the team and he's a lock. If he is dropped then he he's worthless and probably a priority remove considering how many cameos he gets.

James, Chilwell, Rudi triple up could even be on the cards

Those 3x for sub 17.5 would start to look like a big pricing mistake

It really depends on the Azpilicueta situation.

If he's not fit enough, you don't gain much new information from it. You cannot say James is a lock (I'm telling you now anyway, he isn't.)

If Azpi is fit - then you do at least have a chance. But even then, you don't have a true picture until Azpi is 'fully' fit.

I dunno. If Azpi is fit and plays RCB with James RWB that is best case scenario.

Doesn't matter. Next week Chalobah or Christensen could play RCB with Azpi at wing-back.

Basically Azpi is still very good, a leader on the pitch and he will be squeezed into the XI if he can be.

His age will mean he needs to be managed at times (and James will be subbed on at times to help achieve this), but his availability rate across his Chelsea tenure speaks for itself.

James is a great player but a frustrating FPL pick for a couple of reasons:

          - Azpilicueta (his competition is still very good, mensing less gametime, and Reece will cameo to manage his minutes at times)

Also, competition in general for thst spot. CHO can play there too. Even Chilwell played there in EFL last night, even though that won't happen very much.

          - RCB situation (our RCBs, especially Chalobah have become quite dependable now, so even less chance he starts in that position unless like in EFL yesterday)

A lot of you guys seem to think Raphina will play but i have some doubt he will or that Leeds will even smash Norwich.
Leeds are really poor compared to last year, probably because of injuries to major players but still they are just scraping by.
Yes Norwich conceded 7 away at top of the table Champions League holders Chelsea but they are now facing a poor Leeds side at home.
The tackle on Raphina at first didn`t look that bad but when the medical staff came on he was writhing in agony and then was helped off the pitch as he could put no pressure on injured ankle/foot,he then left the ground on crutches and in a protective boot.
That doesn`t seem like just a slight knock and yes he has a week to recover and could have pain reducing injection but even with the Bielsa answer regarding his availability he could well not start or have to come off or just be able to play some minutes.
Saying all this i transfered him out for Foden which in the long run should pay off but i bet if he plays he rips Norwich apart and finally i learn my lesson to wait until very late and monitor the pressers..To sum up i hope he doesn`t play now.

from Phil Hay - key journo for Leeds...

Bielsa expects that Raphinha will be fit for the weekend. Shackleton had a minor injury tonight but has a chance of being available for Norwich.

I think he’ll play. Leeds need him too badly, he’s head and shoulders above anyone in that team. And this game is a 6 pointer for both sides.

I don’t think Bielsa would have made the comment he did if Raph wasn’t looking much better now. The protective boot was no doubt a precaution

You get those injuries sometimes that hurt a lot in the moment but essentially it's just studs on skin. The swelling goes down, there's 0 structural damage and you can play again in a few days. You just can't continue in the game itself.

I think Raph has every chance of making it this weekend especially after Bielsa seemed fairly upbeat about it in the post match conference yesterday.

This post sounds like you're trying to justify the transfer, which tbf is reasonable anyway because Leeds indeed don't look good but as long as you know the risks of getting rid of a high potential player who's playing the worst team in the league...

Analyzing injuries from the perspective of your own changes made in your team is strange. Nobody here will say he will or will not play with certainty, its not even sure a Raphinha himself knows. Being in agony or wearing protective boot could mean anything from just pain to broken leg, and subsequently days to one year out. Keita was leaving old trafford pitch on a carrier and reports says days not weeks, which at the time i thought this is season ending.

I'll be so annoyed if Vardy misses out this weekend, only just brought him in for Lukaku. Plan is to save next week then do Ronaldo and Benrahma to Antonio and Son.

Gallagher or Sissoko first on bench?

    TAA Cancelo Rudiger Livramento
    Salah Benrahma ESR
    Ronaldo Vardy* Toney

From the eye test last week, Brentford and Toney were worse off once Mbeumo came off the pitch.

Those two have some really good understanding between them, which Forss doesn't.

Also hard to say if Wissa would be better as he's also injured, and only had smaller cameos (did score on those though, rather than Toney).

Exactly what I’m thinking. Toney isn’t as attractive with Mbeumo off the field. Kind of like Kane & Son, although Son is ticking along nicely, when they’re on song it’s different and Toney hasn’t exactly been scoring either

Current team: (0.1 ITB, WC planned between GW 11&12)

    Merlier
    Rudiger - Tierney - TAA
    Kovacic - Havertz - Salah (c) - Foden - Sarr
    Jiménez - Aubameyang
Bench: Bamford - Amartey - Duffy

    What to do?
    a) roll transfer
    b) transfer Bamford > Toney (& who should I bench?)
    c) transfer Sarr > Mbeumo
