Digne injury latest as Jimenez impresses: FPL notes from Wolves v Everton

We continue our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 10 Scout Notes with analysis of Wolverhampton Wanderers v Everton.

For a briefer summary of Saturday’s Premier League action, click here, while you can read up on some more matches in detail below.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 2-1 EVERTON

  • Goals: Max Kilman (£4.5m), Raul Jimenez (£7.6m) | Alex Iwobi (5.8m)
  • Assists: Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3m) | Michael Keane (£5.0m)
  • Bonus (projected): Jimenez x3, Keane x2, Iwobi x2

WOLVES BUILDING MOMENTUM

After tonight’s 2-1 win at Molineux, Wolves have now won four of their last five Premier League matches, drawing the other one, and are up to seventh in the table.

Despite a slow start which saw them lose their opening three games, they are now currently one of the form teams in the division, ahead of an appealing run of fixtures which sees them take on Crystal Palace (a), West Ham United (h), Norwich City (a) and Burnley (h) in the next four Gameweeks.

Striker Raul Jimenez (£7.6m) has now produced attacking returns in each of his last four starts, after calmly lobbing Jordan Pickford (£5.0m) in the first-half. However, it could have been more for the Mexican, as he hit the woodwork from a Nelson Semedo (£4.9m) cross, and ended the night with match-leading totals for goal attempts, shots in the box, big chances and penalty box touches.

Meanwhile, Hwang Hee-chan (£5.7m) had a goal ruled out by VAR, having been just offside, while he was also a little unfortunate not to bag an assist.

£4.3M AIT-NOURI ON CORNERS

In a lively and adventurous display down Wolves’ left flank, budget defender Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3) supplied an assist for Max Kilman’s (£4.5) opener direct from a corner.

The youngster shared corner-taking duties with Joao Moutinho (£5.0m) on the night, and could become a real FPL asset if he nails down a starting spot ahead of Marcal (£4.5m), who was again absent through injury.

Elsewhere, Adama Traore (£5.9m) dropped to the bench after a quiet performance at Leeds United in Gameweek 9, with Francisco Trincao (£5.8m) replacing him in the starting XI, while Ruben Neves (£5.4m) also featured at the expense of Leander Dendoncker (£4.8m).

OUT OF SORTS EVERTON

Following last weekend’s 5-2 loss against Watford, Everton continue to look out of sorts and have now lost their last three Premier League games.

Tonight, they struggled from the off in a narrow 4-4-2 formation, with huge spaces regularly appearing in front of their back four. In response, they switched to a 4-5-1 just after the half-hour mark, with Richarlison (£7.8m) operating as their lone forward. That did at least stop the relentless pressure they were under, and signalled an improvement in the second-half, though it still wasn’t enough.

Notably, Wolves’ first goal arrived from a set-piece, which the Toffees are struggling to defend on a regular basis this season. In fact, they have now conceded 44 attempts from dead-ball situations, more than any other side bar Crystal Palace.

A mounting injury list, which already includes the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.5m) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.0m), is clearly taking its toll, then, with Lucas Digne (£5.2m) adding to their woes with a muscle injury which kept him out of tonight’s fixture. The 28-year-old France international will now be assessed, though it is unclear whether or not he will be fit for Everton’s next game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“He was feeling a bit of discomfort so we left him out” – Rafael Benitez on Lucas Digne

With that fixture in mind, Harry Kane (£12.1m) and Son Heung-min (£10.2m) owners could be the next to profit from Everton’s shaky backline in Gameweek 11.

“It is a pity because we didn’t play in the first half. We had a lot of character and chances in the second half, it was maybe a little too late. That was the reaction we were expecting but it was just a shame we didn’t do it in the first half.

They were growing in confidence. We have to see what we did in the second half for 90 minutes. Obviously, we didn’t do it and that is where we have to improve.

We saw the character in the second half to react after a bad first half. I think we are close but missing the players that can make a difference.” – Rafael Benitez

Wolves XI: Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Semedo, Moutinho, Neves, Ait-Nouri, Trincao (Podence 79), Hwang (Silva 90+4), Jimenez (Dendoncker 90)

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Godfrey, Allan, Gbamin (Delph 45), Townsend, Iwobi (Gordon 78), Gray (Rondon 90), Richarlison

Yeah I would, Kane’s done nothing so far this year, definitely does not warrant a spot a that price

I'd hold Kane at this point if you have him personally, but then again if you've no other use for your FT and will otherwise end up burning it and then will be bringing in a better Spurs asset (at least on this season's form) then I can't fault the moves

I have to agree on x3 Spurs but Everton next and their awfulness makes the shiny new toy status that Son's acquired that little more attractive i guess. Possibly with good reason, jumping on a quality asset like Son when he's a good option a week early could be very profitable. It should give us an idea if there's any form included in the transfer at least.

Crazy getting a spurs defender.. I been trying to ditch dier for ages.. might keep him now though with the prospect of s new manager and easy run. Certainly wouldn't bring a spuds defender in tho

I think Reguilon will do great under Conte.

His skillset translates nicely to the wingback position, in my opinion, and Conte has always maximised the talents of players in wingback areas (Moses, Alonso, etc)

Any suggestions on what to use my FT on if I decide to keep Kane?

Dont think i can get both Son and Kane without getting rid of Foden which I dont want to do. Son is my preference over Kane

Only way of doing this that I can see is downgrade 2 players, likely Jimenez to Hwang and Antonio or a def, not sure it'll be worth it

of course but depends how you like to play
if you react to him blanking from cameos every other week or get frustrated when he's not starting then look elsewhere, but if you're happy for him to just sit and accumulate returns then he's decent option!

Think he's okay until more of the premiums start firing and you need to free up the money. I'll probably bench him for the first time this season against West Ham because enough of my team have great fixtures on paper and/or not as likely to make annoying cameos. Probably wouldn't get him in and not sure he'd stay in on WC.

I think he’s better than any Chelsea mid and at least as good as a City mid (over a few weeks - if not single week returns).

No reason he can't hit that form again. He may even thrive on the counter attack in some of the tougher fixtures.

He isn't even getting a week - a few days at most! I've got Antonio with an eye on Kane but I'll make that move GW12, not GW11. Antonio's EO is very high and he's very capable of scoring against a Liverpool defense that is far from impenetrable.

If Azpi starts and James doesn’t play tomorrow - then I might even do Azpi > James as my other ft.

I wouldnt go as far to say it's his spot to lose tbh, always an elevated chance of Coufal coming back in now he's back from Injury. He's done himself no harm though so i guess he's cheap enough to keep an eye on.

For once I had everything go right for me this week. James, Raphinha, Jimenez, chilwell, havertz and guaita with Livramento coming off the bench the highlights. Guaita's late yellow card the only rough haha.

81 points and a very welcome gameweek after last week's havertz captain nightmare.

smooth was keeping James and getting chilwell in for duffy to pick up tons of points from Chelsea.

Rough was made every team selection decision wrong Foster over Ramsdale was a disaster not picking Livramento again and leaving his points on the bench again 6,9,6 last 3 weeks all benched.

Got a small green so happy with that but I spend far too much time thinking about transfers and not enough on team selection.

Rough: started the game week with 3 Arsenal players- Ramsdale, White and ESR- on the bench. Started Foster instead of Ramsdale.
      Mount did not feature.
Transferred in Ings for Ronaldo who did not start either.

Smooth- 2 of the Arsenal players- ESR and White- were autosubbed for 15 points off the bench. Chilwell and Livra- gw7 WC picks continued to deliver. Ended up on 65 points and 300k OR.

Ended in a sea of tears. I'll never learn.

      Won FFS H2H 75-73
Opponent took a hit, so had scored 77 in the week. Mount and Matip failed to play, opp gets Gallagher and Livro for 19 in return. Nervy final few minutes last night, opp had Gray as final player, needing any return.

Smooth- Mount, after 24 last week he kindly sits out to allow Lowton to come on this week 🙂

Rough- Ronaldo > Jesus, goal disallowed then the inevitable Ronaldo returns.

Hi mate, don’t normally post but had to do so this week as I’ve had two weeks of the best transfers in 15 years of playing:

GW9 - transferred out Mahrez for a -4 and brought in Mount who hauled 24 points

GW10 - transferred out Alonso and brought in James who hauled 21 points.

From 344k at the beginning of GW9 to now 56k at the end of GW10! This will never happen again so figured I’d post 🙂

Rough, I transferred out James for Chilwell because I thought James would be rested. I also sold ESR last week. I've decided to stop making transfers 🙂

      Rough: 30 (-4).

I'm just going to post the team

      Sanchez
      TAA, Cancelo, Livramento, Laporte
      Salah (c), Son, Foden, Mbuemo
      Antonio, Toney

Smooth: Armstrong in for Mbuemo off the bench.

Rank trebled from 70k to 210k.

Rough: ESR + KDB to Foden + Son for a hit, leaving me on the wrong side of a 10 point swing.
Smooth: James, Livra and Raphinha. With White coming off the bench to nudge me into the top 50k.

      Smooth

Couldn’t decide who to replace lukaku with so left him in team. Probably would have been toney.

WC transfers from 2 weeks ago then pay off inc Ramsdale, James (from chillwell!), Raphina, livramento & saka.

74 points, moved to top 50k and have 2 ft for next gameweek with loads of dosh with lukaku to come out.

Rough: 46 points on my bench!
      Ramsdale (10) James (21) ESR (9) Livra (6)

My starting 11 scored a dismal net 34 points.

Deadline day selections deciding to play Foster over Ramsdale and Hwang over James cost me 27pts.

Starting to wish I went for a non playing bench on the GW8 WC!

Smooth; 51 points, finally arrested a slide of four reds on the spin with a green. Back up to 364k from 427k. Salah(c), Rudiger, Rapha, Benrahma and Ronaldo.

Rough for my 12 year old daughter Emilia. Advised her to get Salah back asap who she sold way back for Bruno. God knows why but she did. She had the exact money for Salah and Livramento with 2 FT's.

She went from Ronaldo(c), Shaw and Bruno (35) from GW9 had she of left it well alone, to Salah(c), Ronaldo and Trent (23) in GW10. 12 points lost! Who'd have thought her GW9 team was the better picks. 45 points all out and Dad getting dogs abuse..

      47 points, but had 30 on my bench (Ramsdale - 10, Lowton - 14, Livra - 6, D.Luiz - 0)

      Definite rough:
Took a -8 to take out Alonso, Gallagher and Gray and brought in Alexander-Arnold, Foden and Mbuemo.
Happy enough with the structure of my squad but that was a net -20 for a GW score of 35(-8) and a rank drop of 535k to 896k.
Still better OR for the same GW last season and I finished 580 (first top 1k rank) then so it can still be done 🙂

This week played with 9 players.

tough to say tbh but havertz played mid week last also so hes going to need a rest at some point, pulisic is back so maybe he gets some mins off the bench tomorrow and starts vs Burnley as the false 9, just guessing here tho, but havertz played 70 odd mins when Lukaku got injured and has started every game since so a rest is coming

Mahrez might start over Jesus, or Bernardo plays there to allow Kdb and Gundo in midfield, Pep will want to have slicy players to exploit the spaces between shaw/maguire (behind Fred og Tommo). I would play Antonio over Jesus.

It could, but I actually think the tougher games are better for him. Liverpool are suspect at the back, and most of the teams WH will be facing in this next run won't be sitting back defending which means better opportunities for West Ham to break and use the qualities of players like Antonio better

      1. bench boost for every gamew…

Would not put it like that on Liverpool defense, its more about Liverpool changed a little bit and plays more open, partly because Fab is injured, but main part is Gini Wijnaldum is not there anymore.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 3 Years

I agree about Wijnaldum, but Liverpool got away without conceding against Norwich, Burnley and Palace only because of some excellent saves from Alisson, and then conceded 3 v Brentford (and it could have been more) and twice against City (again could have been more) and Fabinho played in both of those games. Perhaps Klopp using TAA in a similar manner to Pep with Cancelo where he effectively becomes a CM when on the ball is part of the issue as well as they're still adjusting to the defensive impact of that, as well as VVD having been out for so long, but I really don't see them as being anywhere near the defensive level of City (or Chelsea, although they too have been allowing far more chances on goal than last season)

Yeah it's pretty sad really, just like with Mount. Before Norwich he wasn't in the equation for really anyone, he was in and out of the side and most he had gotten all season was 6pts (first two GWs), then he bangs against the worst team in the division and suddenly everyone's taking hits to get in a player that isn't nailed. (Fair enough he was ill and not rotated, but fact still remains he's not done much this season to warrant that). It's pretty annoying from the point of view of anyone with these players on your watch list though, you're practically hoping all the players you want will lose form a bit so you don't have to make extra changes to get them
