FPL Gameweek 11 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) bagged his eighth assist of the season on Sunday, as Michail Antonio (£8.2m) produced another Fantasy Premier League (FPL) blank.

Raphinha (£6.6m), Emile Smith Rowe (£5.7m), Jarrod Bowen (£6.3m), Pablo Fornals (£6.0m) and Harvey Barnes (£6.5m) all delivered attacking returns in a good day for mid-price midfielders, while Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) recorded his fourth double-digit haul of the campaign courtesy of a goal and assist.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of the day’s games but in the meantime, our resurrected Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on from the day’s Gameweek 11 fixtures.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL Gameweek 11 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries 1

INJURIES AND BANS

Thomas Partey (£5.0m) was a surprise omission for Arsenal today, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£5.3m) replacing him in the starting XI.

The Gunners have since revealed that the 28-year-old midfielder missed the match due to a groin issue, though it has been suggested that the injury isn’t a serious one.

Kieran Tierney (£4.8m), meanwhile, returned to the bench after recovering from an ankle injury.

Elsewhere, Juraj Kucka (£5.5m) and Mason Holgate (£4.2m) were both sent off for Watford and Everton respectively and will now serve bans, as will Oliver Skipp (£4.5m), who picked up his fifth booking of the season at Goodison Park today.

GAMEWEEK 11 TAKEAWAYS

  • Antonio Conte’s first Premier League game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur ended in a goalless draw against Everton. Sergio Reguilon (£5.0m) was given license to regularly join the attack in the Italian’s 3-4-3 formation (see below), and probably should have scored just before the break after an excellent Harry Kane (£12.2m) pass. As for the England captain, he was once again starved of service, and ended the match with just 18 final-third touches and a single shot in the box. Following today’s draw, Spurs have now failed to register an effort on target in consecutive Premier League games, though their immediate schedule should at least hand them an opportunity to improve in the coming weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of our Season Ticker for ease of fixture between Gameweeks 12 and 15

Tottenham Hotspur’s average position map v Everton in Gameweek 11, featuring the advanced Sergio Reguilon (no. 3)

  • Following today’s narrow 1-0 win over Watford, Arsenal’s unbeaten run now stretches to 10 matches in all competitions. Their goal arrived via Emile Smith Rowe, who has now scored in three consecutive Gameweeks and has four goals and two assists in his last six Premier League games. Elsewhere, it was a day to forget for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.1m), who would have bagged an assist had Bukayo Saka’s (£6.3m) early strike not been disallowed, while he also had a goal ruled out himself, missed a penalty and picked up a booking. As a result, he ended Gameweek 11 on -1 FPL points. At the other end of the pitch, Aaron Ramsdale (£4.7m) recorded his fifth clean sheet of the season and picked up a bonus point despite making just one save.
  • With Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) missing Gameweek 12 through suspension, many FPL managers will turn to budget stopper Ben Foster (£4.1m) in goal. The veteran keeper saved a penalty and collected maximum bonus today, though Watford remain without a single clean sheet all season and have a nightmare schedule between now and Gameweek 15.
  • Raphinha has now scored five of Leeds United’s 11 Premier League goals this season, with his deliveries from wide areas again causing plenty of problems today. The Brazilian now embarks on a tougher schedule (see below), though it’s hard to argue against the value on offer right now. However, if FPL managers do fancy a change, there are certainly plenty of in-form alternatives around the same price, including Conor Gallagher (£5.8m), Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) and Emile Smith Rowe.

Leeds United are bottom of our Season Ticker for ease of fixture between Gameweeks 12 and 19

  • After today’s loss at the London Stadium, Liverpool’s 25 game unbeaten run is now over. Despite that, Mohamed Salah’s assist means that he has now delivered five in a row, though he is without a goal in his last three appearances in all competitions, while Trent Alexander-Arnold bagged a goal and assist, and now sits second in the defender standings, despite missing two games through illness and injury respectively.
  • Michail Antonio has done some excellent point dodging over the last two Gameweeks, having failed to record a goal or assist despite West Ham hitting seven past Aston Villa and Liverpool combined. Meanwhile, the Hammers’ have been dangerous on set-pieces all season and showed exactly why in Gameweek 11, with two of their three goals arriving from corners. As a result, Jarrod Bowen has now provided at least a goal or assist in six of his last seven appearances, with only Salah posting a superior expected goal involvement (xGI) total during that time.

The impressive Jarrod Bowen ranks second amongst all players for xGI since Gameweek 5

  • It’s only Gameweek 11, but so far five Premier League managers have already lost their jobs this term: Daniel Farke, Nuno Espirito Santo, Steve Bruce, Xisco Munoz and now, Dean Smith. Notably, there had been just one sacking at the same stage of the 2020/21 season. As for Smith, the former Brentford man was appointed in October 2018, and helped Aston Villa earn promotion back to the Premier League in his first season in charge of the club. However, in his third campaign, a run of five straight losses – the last of which came at Southampton on Friday – led the hierarchy to make a change.

“After a good start to last season, this year we have not seen the continuous improvement in results, performances and league position which we have all been looking for.

For this reason, we have decided to make a change now to allow time for a new head coach to make an impact.” – Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 11

Daniel James (£6.0m) tops the Gameweek 11 shots count, just ahead of team-mate Rodrigo (£6.3m), Leandro Trossard (£6.4m), Demarai Gray (£5.7m) and Sergi Canos (£5.5m). However, it is worth noting that only three arrived in the box, with his 0.21 expected goals (xG) total trumped by 29 other players this weekend.

Elsewhere, only Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.3m) could better Jarrod Bowen’s two big chances created total in Gameweek 11, though the West Ham man did come out on top for expected assists (xA), with +1.71.

Depending on fixtures I had been playing 352 or 343. Just fed up with strikers not doing anything and nobody reliable to replace them with. I don’t have TAA and then I look at the money tied up in Vardy and Antonio…

Fair comment. I played 5 at the back and ramsdale this week. They scored 48 points between them. May try it more often whilst top forwards not performing.

No.. this is my current team and set up for next gameweek:

      Fernandez
      TAA - Cancelo - Chilwell - Livramento - James

Specifically I meant making transfers to commit to it longer term rather than just benching people. I have Vardy and Antonio and I just see a lot of that money tied up in them as being wasted

Will see if anything changes with MU over the break but they have good fixtures from GW14 too so I feel like it might be worth doing

What’s your blind spot in playing fpl?

Mine’s stubbornness to not get players without excellent under lyings, seems to hurt me with players like Gallagher. smith Rowe and raphina this season and I never seem to learn

Historically refusing to get players that I just generally dislike & on the flip side favouring those that I have a bias towards in real life (West Ham).

I’ve tried to ditch that this year & play with as little emotion as possible, ditching Antonio a few weeks ago for example when in seasons past he would literally be a season keeper. Working out well so far, will likely go tits up….

I can have that backline with one free transfer this week (Tierney to Reguillion) and I'm very tempted by it. Playing 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 seems to be a reasonable strategy at the moment.

Went 5atb last week, this week, and def next week.

Unsure beyond that, it's years away in FPL terms but seems like a good strategy for me.

I look at TAA, Cancelo, Chilwell and James and I just see 4 midfielders anyway.

      rough:
Been toying between Mbeumo and ESR, and did Gray >> Mbeumo (could have just saved an FT instead!)
Played Ramsdale this week after played Foster and bench him last GW

      smooth:
Been playing Livramento for 4 straight gameweek, TAA scored, and Cancelo!

      Rough:

      -Vardy blanking again
-Feeling good about Chilwell definitely starting until I realised my closest rival brought him in to go with his already double Chelsea defence.

      Smooth:

-Burnley wiping out his triple clean sheet
-Guaita, Cancelo, Trent, Livramento, Smith-Rowe, Havertz, Salah, Gallagher all returning
-Rank rise from 109k to 35k

Mostly smooth thankfully. 41pts total between my defenders. Raphinha 9pter again.

The main rough was the Sanchez red. I feel a bit unfortunate with the Hudson Odoi blank as he was foiled by 2 good Pope saves and on another day might have had an assist or 2 also.

A bit of both as took a -8 to get in James, Mane and Gallagher, selling KdB, Christensen and Sarr.

      Finally a big big smooth!

Week rank of 2680, 9 players returned for me:
      Ramsdale
      Cancelo Trent James Reguillon
      Smith-Rowe Salah Havertz *Saka*
      Armstrong *Kane*

If Reguillon had connected with that Kane cross I would have been in even more dreamland as he was my transfer this week!

Smooth my team looks great going forward great strength and depth ESR - Raphinha, James etc. Can even afford to save a transfer this week.

Rough - that comes with its own issues. I was sure Brentford would hammer Norwich. Thought a double Brighton clean sheet was on the cards.Thought Man U would knick a goal in the Manchester derby. Thought Livramento would concede. So I played Duffy and my double Chelsea defence.

Benching the Southampton man and Cancelo.
I thought surely Manchester United won't do as badly as Bruges did with Cancelo? Rudiger looked like a safe bet.

      2 rough FTs:
Raya to Sanchez & Townsend to Smith-Rowe.
Doesn't seem to bad on the surface, but if I'd have done nothing.....
Foster would have autosubbed in for Raya, and if I'd kept Townsend I would have benched him instead of Cancelo.
So an 18 point swing by my reckoning!

On the smooth side, still managed to get a decent 53 points

A jammy gameweek where things wouldn't go wrong even if I wanted them to. Benched Cancelo for Azpi but it worked out well in the end. Benched Sanchez and played Ramsdale which worked fine. Pukki, Raphinha, TAA, and Captain Mo did the job for me. 71 points.

Even though my transfers blanked (Townsend + Lukaku to Son + Hwang), the rest of my team did well. I had a great bench for this week so decided to Bench Boost.

As a result I vaulted from 5200 rank to 475. 92 points total with 21 coming from bench boost - Foster, Antonio, Livramento and Duffy. Main team scored mostly from Ramsdale, Cancelo, TAA, Salah, ESR and Raphinha.

Feeling relieved that the BB worked out and I don't have to keep that in the back of my mind anymore.

105(-8), my highest gameweek rank ever of 127.

I had a benching headache so I played my bench boost, which in my opinion is the worst chip available.

Deploying the chip in a DGW can be a hindrance on your second wildcard, I can now pump my money into my starting 11

Smooth: being clever by starting Steele over Sanchez, in the event that Sanchez is sent off. An easy potential 2-4 point gain that will one day be a big trend in the FPL community.

Rough: Brighton had already made 3 subs, so Steele stays off. I hate this season.

It's a valid tactic, but carries it's own risks.
It would have backfired if Sanchez has gone off injured after 60 minutes, banking a clean sheet, and Steele had then come on for a one point cameo.

        1. Forza
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member

True, but Sanchez is probably more likely to go off in the first 60 minutes as opposed to the last 30. He could also go off before the 30-minute mark, giving Steele the chance of getting the clean sheet.

It'd be interesting to see the most common time for goalkeepers' injuries - maybe they're more vulnerable in the first 30 minutes if they don't warm up thoroughly.

Starting the backup used to be a great strategy when GKs were often sent off for fouls inside the box, because the backup would then get the chance to save the resulting penalty. The rules have changed, and it's now more rare for a GK to be sent off for a foul inside the box, but it's still better to start the backup IMO.

      Good. 62 points. Up 20k to 101k.

Smooth: Ds came though some tough fixtures: TAA, Cancello.
      Stuck with Raphinha.

Rough: Sanchez red card. Livra on the bench. Vardy, Antonio, Benny, Jota with more blanks.

Smooth: Managed a small green arrow this week with 48 points, and I'm heading into the international break with 2 free transfers which has been a rarity this season. Happy with my team and still have my wildcard to play so hopefully a few green arrows to come over the next few weeks before pulling the trigger on it.

Rough: I had Foster, A.Armstrong, Cancelo and Livramento sitting on my bench for a bench total of 40 points.

      Rough
Sanchez red to go with Duffy in double Brighton defence. Foster sitting. Those net 12 points lost would have put me at almost 100k currently just inside 200k.

Smooth: Raphinha returning again, Dias 6 points for Grealish no show. Rolled the FT to have 2 after the IB.

Rough : Did Martinez and Ings to cheapie and Aubameyang for a hit, which meant playing Sanchez. Nice -1 from both plus no GK this week. No Cancelo as well.

Did Raphinha to ESR so -1 on that but save .9 so happy with that going forward. Rough has be Sanchez red card and Son Mbeumo Toney and Vardy blanks. Benched Livramento again. Smooth has to be Cancelo and TAA. Despite a small green arrow got reds in nearly all my mini leagues. Son with zero xG this week is becoming frustrating to own but can't sell because of fixtures

      - Also benched Cancelo (14) & Livramento (6)

      Previous weeks:
      GW10: Benched Smith Rowe (9) & Livramento (6)
      GW9: Benched Smith Rowe (13) & Trent (10)

      Rough:

33 points benched this gameweek (Foster, Antonio, Cancelo, Livra).

That’s now 102 points benched in the last 3 weeks since my WC (23, 46, 33)!

    Gray: 3 points
    ESR: 8 points
Gray to ESR for a hit gives me a net gain of 1 point. So not a bad decision in the end.

Although Double Chelsea defense didn’t work out so well this GW.

Interesting to see a few reguilon mentions, but no emerson.

For the last few weeks emerson has arguably looked more impressive.

Easy to spell as well plus Royal, gives a lot of pun/bun opportunities.

    Already done -4 Auba/Luiz for Son/Broja

    Worth doing the following?

    Vardy to Hwang
Manquillo to TAA (will give me a back four of Cancelo, James and Chilwell)

Will leave me with a midfield of Son/Salah/Foden/Raph/Mbeumo and 1.5itb

    Thanks
