The minutes played by FPL players over the November international break

The final international break of 2021 reached its conclusion in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Over 200 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) assets were in action for their countries over the last week and there will be inevitable repercussions in Gameweek 12, given the impact on starting XIs immediately after the September and October international breaks.

Our Team News tab and our Friday press conference round-up (in both article and video form) will cover everything on the fitness front but it is fatigue we’re focusing more on in this article as we look at how many minutes each FPL asset clocked up while on international duty.

How much ‘tiredness’ will be a factor in Gameweek 12 is open to debate, as the triple-headers of earlier international breaks are now mostly a thing of the past and juggling two games in a week comes second nature to many Premier League players. With 10 Gameweeks now to come in the space of 40 days, however, any national team game-time going into this period may come into top-flight managers’ medium-term thinking when weighing up whether or not a player needs a breather.

As well as on-field exertions, long-haul flights back from further afield may be a consideration ahead of the weekend – although much less so than in October, when South American nations were in action on the Friday morning before Gameweek 8.

Indeed, Brazil and Argentina were instead facing off late on Tuesday evening this time, given the Premier League representatives in question additional days to make their way back to the UK and recuperate.

Raul Jimenez (£7.7m) was the last notable FPL name in action, representing Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

MOST MINUTES PLAYED OVER THE NOVEMBER INTERNATIONAL BREAK

A trio of academy products – Carney Chukwuemeka, Dane Scarlett and Aaron Ramsey – were the only ‘active’ FPL assets who logged more than three hours of pitch-time, thanks to England under-19s having three fixtures over the last week.

Onto more significant names and there were 42 players who lasted 180 minutes across their respective nations’ matches, including Shane Duffy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jimenez, Ismaila Sarr, Aymeric Laporte and Andreas Christensen.

Son Heung-min, Kevin De Bruyne and Hwang Hee-chan were only a little further back on 178, 173 and 172 minutes respectively.

Happily, many of the most popular Fantasy picks had a relatively easy ride. Of the 15 highest-owned assets in FPL, only Duffy and Ronaldo started more than one game for their homeland in the November international window.

CLUB-BY-CLUB ROUND-UP

The team-by-team guide below breaks down the minutes that each player has played per international match over the last week or so, with a total given at the end.

The players listed exclude those who withdrew from their national team squads without kicking a ball but include those who played at least one match before picking up an injury or illness or dropped out for personal reasons. The latter group of players are marked with an asterisk.

As mentioned earlier, we’ll have further details on any lingering fitness concerns in our pre-Gameweek 12 team news round-up on Friday.

The conventional wisdom on transfers during international breaks has absolutely swung from one extreme to the other. Last season you had lots of managers making transfers the first day of IBs. One famous manager did Davis to Brewster to beat a price drop.

Now people are afraid to act even after all the international fixtures are done. Even if they have a deep bench that would easily cover for a late-breaking injury.

I transferred the moment I could after last GW. But twas a rage trade! The most satisfying trade there is.

I did the same, on Saturday. Not rage - it was to replace Sanchez as I had no spare change.

One of the rare occasions where I used my 2fts on a Saturday so as not to get priced out..As you said, a deep bench can more than cover for a injury or two

Looking to burn a transfer but don't know who?

Only single moves I can think of are

    a) Sanchez to Guaita
    b) Toney to 4.5-5m FWD (Mbeumo to Jota or bring in Kane/Son next GW without a hit)

    Foster
    TAA | Dias | Cancelo | James
    Salah | Foden | Mbeumo
    Vardy | Antonio | Toney

    Sanchez | Livra | Raph | Brownhill, 2FT, 0.4 ITB

    Any suggestions?

Either could be good. Guaita has 8 points more than Sanchez despite much worse fixtures to date, so I think he should solidly outscore Sanchez over the season.

I know 100k isn't too bad of a rank, but I'm sort of stagnating in that area and want to try get up closer to the top.

So I think it's going to be Kane (c). Anyone else?

This is just a game afterall. The entire universe(including myself) will captain Salah, so if Kane haul and Salah somehow blank(touchwood) you'll shoot up the rank like crazy. Have a little fun and go with your gut.

There’s no need for you to captain Kane, as he is already a differential that will help you gain rank if he hauls. Just stick to Salah(c) to prevent any drastic drops if Salah hauls.

I am also considering Kane for the differential.

Comments on his extremely poor underlying stats in the Premier League? 259.6 minutes per xGI, 39 touches in penalty area.

Well, he scored 7 goals in the international break against Albania and San Marino. Hope that was needed for him to get back the confidence.

Regarding Kane at Tottenham, its not a confidence issue. It’s his sulking and mentality. If he is bent on leaving, his poor form may continue.

Conte's arrival has put Kane on my radar, but I'll not be rushing. I need to see Conte's Spurs actually scoring again first.
I wonder if Romero's injury will impact them this GW. Maybe Conte needs more of a defence-first tactic to make up for the shortfall in quality. I personally don't think owning, let alone captaining Kane is a great idea for Gw12.

    Team setup:
    Ramdsale
    Chilwell James Cancelo
    Mbeumo Salah(c) Son Raphinha
    Toney Jimenez Antonio
    bench: foster, livramento, lowton, brownhill
    1FT, 5.1 ITB.

Sitting at 8k right now, is it too risky to make the following moves? Really want to add a city mf and trent in but not sure where to prioritize. Double brentford must go sooner or later.

    1. Antonio --> Kane
    2. Toney, Chilwell --> Wilson, TAA
    3. Raphinha, Chilwell --> Foden, TAA
    4. Toney--> Wilson(priced out of Toney--> Kane)

    Thoughts much appreciated!

      Congrats on your rank!

How about saving the FT? Then you can do 2/3 next week. Having 2 FT gives flexibility in terms of transfers.

I have 2 FT and team looks good. Where can I improve with this team:

    Fernandez
    Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Cancelo, Livramento (Duffy)
    Salah, Havertz, Gallagher, Benrahma (Raphinha)
    Vardy, Antonio (Dennis)

    Considering
    1. Fernandez -> Ramsdale (but not liking this as I have probably missed the boat and Arsenal playing Liverpool away not the correct week)
    2. Havertz -> Jota / Bernardo Silva (this looks good on paper, but not really sure whether this is the week to transfer out Havertz)
    3. Havertz + Vardy -> Jota / Bernardo + Kane (the above transfer would also allow me to get in Kane before others, which could be a good differential if it clicks. Especially with those fixtures.)

Any other suggestions? Am I missing any obvious upgrade opportunities?

      1. I feel Fernandez to Ramsdale/Guaita probably pays off in the long term
      2. Wait for team news given early kickoff. Is Lukaku back?
      3. Silva + Kane good differentials

        Thanks for your reply.
I think I will stick with Fernandez for sometime more. I will get Ramsdale once their fixture eases a little bit.
I was thinking of the differentials since I am trailing. But, the underlying stats of Kane are so disappointing that I am having second thoughts.

I can see 2 main routes.

Havertz to Jota and save 2nd FT.
Sarr to cheapie and Havertz to Son.

If looking for some differential. Havertz, Sarr, Antonio to cheapie, Gallagher, Kane for -4

Already have Gallagher mate. Two options I'm looking at are -

        a. havertz > jota and save ft
        b. vardy havertz > kane jota

Can do sarr to esr next gw.

        Thoughts?

          ah sorry, missed that.

Vardy to Kane just feels sideways based on form (and pretty much same fixtures). can understand the temptation but I would probably hold Vardy for WAT game and move for Kane after that.

Changing mind every 10 mins, just need the deadline to hurry.

Help me out (can do B and C without by doing over 2 weeks)

    a) Vardy + Mbeumo to Wilson + Jota (means price out of any Spurs premiums)
    b) Vardy + Raph + Toney to Kane + Jota + K.Davis (-4)
    c) Vardy + Raph + Mbeumo to Jota + Son + Broja (-4)
    d) Mbeumo + Raph to Jota + Normann

    Foster

What would you do guys, I'm really tired of Mbeumo's constant blanking.

    Current first XI

    Ramsdale
Chilwell | Cancelo (VC) | TAA | James
    Salah (C) | Foden | Mbeumo
    Jimenez | Wilson | Armstrong

    Bench: Foster Livra ESR Normann

    0 FT 5.5 ITB

I thought to maybe take a hit, Jimenez - > Kane, have feeling that Jimenez is going to blank this game. But Mbeumo drives me crazy.

    1. Mbeumo -4 - - > Gallagher/Bowen/Cornet
    2. Jimenez -4 - - > Kane

Who do you think can hurt you this weekend?
Jota is the stand out. most have recently sold him and it looks like he has to come back.
Son/Kane are obvious picks and there are various reasons why one would pick one or the other.
Ronaldo is going to score this weekend as is a candidate for Captain.
Gallagher is showing promise and and obvious swap for Mbeumo (Maybe not this week.
Wilson is a reliable pick and probably the best mid priced forward atm.
Tsimikas could come into the equation dependent on Robbo injury.
Getting a keeper Ramsdale/Guaita is an opportunity to move Sanchez on.
Cornet could become a popular pick.
      Who have I forgotten.
