FPL Gameweek 14 round-up: Tuesday review, injury news and the things we learned

Our Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on from Tuesday’s Gameweek 14 fixtures, from injury news to stats analysis.

With the swift turnaround between Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadlines, the Scoreboard articles will take the place of the usual Scout Notes for this midweek round of action.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, BONUS

INJURIES AND BANS

Norwich City winger Milot Rashica (£5.2m) was absent from tonight’s game, having tweaked his groin in training on the run-up to Gameweek 14.

Todd Cantwell (£5.3m) missed out with a Covid-related issue, with local press reports suggesting that he has come into contact with someone with the virus, rather than actually contracted it himself.

Elsewhere, Pascal Struijk (£4.4m) aggravated the injury which prevented him from playing 90 minutes at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, and was removed at half-time, with Marcelo Bielsa saying after the game:

“Same problem as Saturday’s. All of us value he played with the physical limitations he played with. It’s a knack that’s very generous and shows how good a teammate he is to all of us.”

On the suspension front, Ciaran Clark (£4.4m) will now miss Gameweek 15 as a result of his red card, having denied a clear goalscoring opportunity after hauling down Teemu Pukki (£5.8m) after just nine minutes. In better news, Eddie Howe’s side can at least welcome back Matt Ritchie (£4.9m) and Jamaal Lascelles (£4.4m) on Saturday, who have now served their respective bans.

Joel Ward’s (£4.5m) yellow card means that he’ll now miss the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, while Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) picked up his fourth booking of the season, and is now just one further caution away from suspension.

GAMEWEEK 14 TAKEAWAYS

THREE IN FOUR FOR PUKKI BUT NORWICH LACK FINAL-THIRD IDEAS

Despite playing against 10-men for the majority of tonight’s St James’ Park encounter, Norwich City failed to capitalise and lacked any real creativity in the final-third. That’s been a theme throughout their season as the Canaries have managed just eight goals in 14 matches to date. That total includes two penalties, while even over the last four Gameweeks – a period which has seen them take eight points from a possible 12 – they have managed just five big chances.

However, when his team needed him most, Teemu Pukki stepped up with an excellent finish to earn his side a draw. The Finnish international has now netted three goals in his last four appearances, while his total of five for the season is only bettered by Jamie Vardy (£10.6m) and Michail Antonio (£8.1m) amongst all forwards. Despite that, with a tough schedule for the remainder of 2021, the best time to join the ‘Pukki party’ may have passed.

RAPHINHA ON PENALTIES

With Patrick Bamford (£7.7m) missing and Mateusz Klich (£5.4m) substituted at half-time, both of Leeds’ regular penalty takers were off the pitch when Marcelo Bielsa’s side were awarded a late penalty at Elland Road. That was also the case as recently as Gameweek 9, when Rodrigo (£6.3m) converted from the spot against Wolverhampton Wanderers. As a result, many were expecting the Spanish forward to step up again, but instead, and to the surprise of many – not least his 20.1% ownership – it was Raphinha (£6.7m) who took it on and scored to net his sixth goal of the campaign. Notably, the Brazilian wasn’t on the pitch against Wolves, though it remains to be seen just how far up the pecking order he is when everyone is available.

GALLAGHER DEEPER BUT BACK ON SET-PIECES

Despite tonight’s blank, Conor Gallagher put in another lively shift at Elland Road, though he was positioned a little deeper than usual. As a result, he could only muster two penalty box touches, with his one shot in the box and zero created chances well below his usual standards. However, with Luka Milivojevic (£5.4m) dropping to the bench as Patrick Vieira opted for Jeffrey Schlupp (£5.4m) alongside Cheikhou Kouyate (£4.5m) in the engine room, he was at least back on set-pieces, which could be key to his FPL prospects moving forward.

Conor Gallagher’s touch heatmap v Leeds United in Gameweek 14

STAT WATCH – GAMEWEEK 14

Christos Tzolis (£4.8m) ends Tuesday’s action top for shots in the box (3), with a host of players just behind on two.

Notably, that includes Christian Benteke (£6.4m), who appeared off the bench on 68 minutes only to squander a couple of chances, including one at the back post.

In terms of chances created, Newcastle United duo Callum Wilson (£7.4m) and Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.9m), plus Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), recorded three, followed by several Norwich players, as they pushed for an equaliser at St James’ Park.

Same here. But I was looking at Raph's upcoming schedule rather than next 1 or 2 GWs. Now I need Jota to keep his place and not revert to job-sharing with Bobby.

If you go B, take King... and then it's a tough call between Gundog and Bilva. I am personally considering Gundog as he seems to be capable of going on an unreal scoring streak. This could be the time to jump on. Just be wary of KDB returning to the midfield as that could cut his minutes.

Early thoughts? Do I need to ship both Sa and Jimenez? If so, to whom?

    Sa - Steele

    Vardy - Wilson - Jimenez

DZ lads - sneaky RMT for GW15?

    Ramsdale
    Alonso - Rudiger - TAA - Cancelo
    Salah - Son - Jota - Raphinha
    Wilson - Jiminez

Subs: Foster - Livra - Brownhill - Locadia

I don’t think no playing bench is an option right now, then again going without TAA doesn’t seem a viable option either. Probably Alonso with a bench for now but TAA has to come in real soon.

Most are solid starters James and Cancelo are possibly the biggest risk and than bench is dire.
I would go Alonso and King for now.
See how Kane and Son go for 2 easy fixtures ,and I hope they work out for you, but then one has to go cause I think neither is a better option than TAA and it leaves you cash for a bench. GL

Thinking of saving 2FT and moving ASM>King then Raph>WHU. Depending on Foden news.
    Who would be your pick?
    1. Benny
    2. Fornals
    3. Bowen

    Rest of the team:

    Sanchez Foster*
    James TAA Cancelo Dias Livra
Salah Foden* ESR Jota Raph (> WHU)
    Toney ASM (> King) Antonio

In a similar boat to many with Jimi and 2fts.

    Ramsdale
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Alonso
    Salah, Jota, Raphinha, Gallagher
    Vardy, Antonio

    Foster, Jimenez, Livramento, Brownhill
    2ft, 0.5itb

    Current thinking is

    Jimi + Brownhill > King + Cornet

    Play 4-5-1
Bench would be Antonio (CHE), King (mc), Livramento (BRI).

    1. The White Pele
      • 6 Years

I understand why it seems a lot - but it’s for one week as I work through the holidays.

Usually would bench 3 of Gallagher, Cornet, King and Livramento which I like until the new year.

Let’s me target high rotation risk players elsewhere.

Thinking of saving the FT for the first time in a long time, especially if James doesn’t play this week and looks ok for the weekend.
Any possible moves to consider with 1 FT. Fernandez and Dias out look like the priorities But they can wait and Raphinha is good for one more week.

    Fernandez

    TAA James Alonso Cancelo Dias

    Salah Jota Son Raphina

    Jesus

    Steele ESR Broja Dennis

Are you going to stick with Son after next 2? Downgrading him to Bowen/Gallagher does give cash for Broja to Antonio.

Nice thinking again. Only thing is if Spurs showed a complete turn around under Conte the medium term fixtures are pretty juicy, but a good shout for sure and a likely path cause I don’t know if the turn around will come too quickly.
One last question would you do Dias to Regullion for free this week given the next 2 fixtures and how frustrating Dias has been to own?

            1. Holmes
              • 10 Years
              2 years, 4 months ago

Yeah, Dias has been a disappointing pick but I would still prefer him over Reguilion for next 5. If you are looking at getting rid, I would be tempted with Rudiger and roll with triple CHE defense for next few weeks.

Thanks. You know I am not afraid of a big defence but triple while not a bad idea when we talk about Che just means a really good or bad gameweek and I can probably live with that for long term gain. I even consider Chalobah for that spot for a bit cheaper and while not nailed he will get a lot of games but then if I did need him off the bench I am trusting to luck. Cheers mate much to ponder 🙂

Blackbox sounds okay (however have only watched 3-4 times last year)

Issue with all these podcast is length. Watching someone talking about FPL for more than 1 hours is tiresome. Timestamp does help in skipping irrelevant parts though...

Saka not as good as ESR for me, but this is a young Arsenal side, so they will be inconsistent.

Vardy was bought by the masses before hard fixtures and sold before the easy fixture Watford. Unsurprising.

Foden is just Torres 2.0. A lucky goal deflected off his bum and people chased points. There’s always variance with Man City.

Gallagher been playing deep the last two. Probably not your fault but could get rid.

Antonios bad run of fixtures are about to end and he dropped today. People are insane. Just look at his fixtures ahead. Same happened to vardy. People just move here and there and call it luck

Its not like he is playing well but then again, Kane and Toney are not playing well either...

I think the people who are insane are those who didn’t sell before his hard fixtures when that 8m could’ve been spent in so many better ways

Tired of Guaita. Get in Ramsdale? Y or N?

    Guaita
    TAA Cancelo James Alonso White
    Salah Son Jota ESR
    Wilson

I am still considering Guaita as an in option for Fernandez but maybe only if I get priced out of Ramsdale. Palace defensive stats are good and good fixtures to come. Some patience might be rewarded in this case.

Almost did Toney to Wilson. How did Newcastle fare as a whole?

Watched the first half of Leeds game and they were as usual pressing with almost nil end product or chance creation. Happy Raph got away with a pen, the only thing that keeps him in my team is the ability of Leeds to press opponents out and have a lot of the ball. And with Raph making dashing runs and on almost all set pieces, I will be happy if he ticks an average of 6/7 points a season. Bamford back and taking off pens from Raph will be interesting but I think he will improve them as a whole so it's not that bad.

Same. Watching Leeds is interesting and frustrating as well. They work so hard but they lack real quality, more so going forward with only Raph having the ability to finish creating big chances atm.

Newcastle were the better team for most of the game. Even with 10-men. They worked hard, especially Wilson.

Two FTs. 0.3itb but no idea where to use any ?!

    Ramsdale
    Livra. Cancelo. James. Alonso. Trent
    Raph. Salah. Jota
    Antonio. Kane

    Foster. Pukki. Mbuemo. Brownhill

These players I think are meh--

pukki, mbuemo, and west ham fixtures aren't great in general.

Not much I can do with Pukki or Mbuemo though…. At their price ranges. Below Pukki you get total garbage up front!

    2 ft and 0.6 itb. OR 48 K

    Ramsdale
    Trent rudiger cancelo James
    Salah raphinha ESR jota
    Jimenez vardy
    Foster Antonio allan omobami

    1. I think jimenez needs to go first. I bought him after his first goals. Since then he scored 37 from 7 matches. Not bad. But fixtures ahead are ugly.
    2. May save the FT and sell raphinha next week.

    Jimenz + raphinha > toney+ gallagher?

Is there any good sites to buy football shirts? Not knock offs the real thing

Every year I buy my brother one but now there is ‘match’ shirt ‘stadium’ shirt and a whole range of different prices
