Scoutcast: Wildcard drafts, ‘big at the back’ and FPL Xmas transfer targets

Joe, Seb and Andy help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 16 in the latest Scoutcast.

Andy and Joe used their Wildcards earlier this season but wish they had another as they prepare for Gameweek 16’s fixture swing for teams such as Manchester United and West Ham United.

In contrast, patient Seb has held this valuable chip back despite being tempted over autumn to use it. This week, however, he has finally pressed the button.

The Scoutcast crew take a look at Seb’s latest Wildcard draft, the key players he is considering and the challenges he is facing.

A crucial decision is whether to invest in Manchester United’s premium forward Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m). Seb presents two drafts, one with and one without the legendary Portuguese goalscorer, and weighs up the pros and cons of each.

This latest Scoutcast then looks position by position at the key players to consider over the festive run-in.

The wealth of midfield options, in particular at Manchester City, is tackled and the future of ‘big at the back’ is another issue looked at. Andy is on hand with recent statistics to consider why there has been a drop-off in performance for a number of premium attacking defenders.

Elsewhere, there are fixtures to frisk, captain plans to discuss and an update on the Scoutcast’s community team, during this packed look ahead to Gameweek 16.

In addition, our trio look back on their Gameweek 15 performance, read out the community’s ‘rough with the smooth’ tales of joy and woe and select some differentials to consider for Christmas.

Think I would get Bilva for now.

Watkins hasn't exactly been prolific this season. Has some good fixtures mind you.

If it's a short 1-2 games lay-off, I'd be tempted to hold Son if you have decent cover.

Spurs have 2 good fixtures over xmas, plus it saves another transfer for their likely DGW early next year.

that's not too bad shape, Toney to Dennis or King, Kane to Ronaldo, you can survive without Sanchez's 2pts for a week

Agree with this, don't see the point in doing a GK transfer. Toney and Kane to King and Ronaldo (-4) or Gilmour and Kane to Bowen/Bernardo and King (-4)

I suppose a benefit of this is that Salah may not need a rest for Liverpool now as he'll likely miss that Leicester game which is 2 days after Leeds (I was still planning for them to be gone after Boxing Day anyway despite the suggestions Liverpool may keep him and Mane a few GWs longer)

The 'you need 14 fit senior players' rule (or whatever it is) doesn't apply for COVID outbreaks. You can apply for a postponement with more than 14 fit players if your club has been hit by COVID.

At least 7 players now. And since there is that incubation time (or time before symptoms and positive test result) more cases may emerge and they need to stop it.

I've been pondering the same thing but I don't think it's worth it as no-one stands out (and no-one really has this season). Sa has City and in general a tough run for a while, Arsenal are looking leaky at the back again, De Gea could possibly lose his spot to Henderson, and Palace have been very poor defensively for a while. I think I might just hold.

De Gea doesn't look like he will lose his spot. One of their top players this year & another loan is being spoken about for Henderson.

With no backup keeper, DDG (or any other keeper) doesn't need to score much this week to pay it back immediately.

NOR, BRE, BHA, NEW, BUR, WOL
            vs.
------, WOL, MUN, BRE, CHE, EVE

Could pay off. Brighton have key defensive injuries too.

        Ramsdale
        Trent James Cancelo
        Smith-Rowe Salah(c) Jota Sancho
        Dennis Ronaldo Watkins

        Davies Gilmour Williams

Early -8 done as thought Ronaldo was going up last night, unfortunately did Duffy to Davies early.. But I think I’m set up for a few weeks, Salah to Son for Xmas period..

        A) Son + Gilmour to Bernardo Silva + Bowen for -4 (no keeper)
        B) Son + Sanchez to Bernardo Silva + DDG for -4 (play Gallagher)

If Spurs Brighton game is postponed this weekend, it actually may be worth taking a hit to remove Sanchez (unless you have a 2nd playing GK) when you look at the Brighton's upcoming fixtures.

Only Sanchez/Steele. Reckon a -4 for a keeper swap this week isn't the worst.

I got Reggie 😀 but at least it was from Duffy (up 0.2 net on that) so it's much of a muchness since the latter is definitely out. Time to set my bench and leave it.

Ah, 2 outfield players, and I have bench, but I'm not sure the game is 100% nailed as off... BHA are missing players through injury and suspension and might think this is a game worth playing. BHA have more injuries than Spurs have players isolating, so I call shenanigans if they think they can cry to mom over this.

Even if the game goes ahead, I wouldn't feel good owning the likes of Reggie or Kane given the weakened nature of the team they'd put out.
If it is postponed, don't expect it to be played for a long time yet.

There is this, but even so both teams have to think this is a possible 3 points if played. Both teams would be limited at the back, BHA have no defenders fit (well, not many), Spurs would be out Emerson and Davies (Reggie said he'd be back). So, Doherty plays, and they can't replace a CB? They definitely can. Tanganga, Dier, Rodon.

Moura and Son? They have Ndombele, Dele Alli, all wanting game time. It's bad faith for Spurs to say they can't field a team.
