Meet the Manager: FPL charity match organiser Benny Blanco

In this latest episode of Fantasy Football Scout’s Meet the Manager series, Joe chats to FPL Community Twitter favourite Benny Blanco about how to make Fantasy Football fun again, amid tough Gameweeks for many.

Impressively for Benny, this includes organising a real-life football tournament for Fantasy managers to test their silky skills on the pitch.

This ‘North v South’ football match involves a number of notable FPL managers, including FFScout’s Az, to raise money for the charity Street Child United.

Further details of this event, which takes place in Birmingham in May 2022, can be found via Just Giving and on Twitter.

In this latest episode of Meet the Manager, Benny chats about his role as an FPL Community ‘joker’ and the importance of putting the fun back into the game, even if a Gameweek has been a stinker.

But while he doesn’t take himself too seriously, he has been more conscientious about the management of his own FPL this season. Following a pair of top 50K finishes in recent years, he now finds himself on the edge of the top 10k.

He discusses his career history and why this season has been so successful. His key strategies over the year so far are also discussed.

In addition, Joe and Benny look ahead to Gameweek 16 and beyond and why these coming fixtures are so pivotal to our seasons.

This chat is available below:

The Meet the Manager series is where Joe chats to FPL managers with a strong record of success, have an interesting view of the game and/or who are offering the community a unique take on Fantasy management.

Would you guys do Vardy, Son & Sanchez to Ronaldo, Bowen & DDG for -8?

    Sanchez
    TAA Cancelo James Reguilon
    Salah Son Jota B.Silva ESR
    Vardy

    Steele King Livramento Locadia

If the Leicester game is on, then idk why you would take Vardy out for a -4. The other moves, yes.

I would forget the keeper and just do the outfield players. Unless you want DDG for the long term. Which seems nuts seeing as you can get Dalot for under 5m and looks to be nailed on now.

Considering I’d want dalot I’m probably 2-3 gameweeks time,Ramsdale the better pick over DDG? Not keen on doubling up on either defence

Yes for me dude. Can't bank on either for clean sheets, but at least Dalot potentially could pull out an assist to save your bacon.

Been in work all night, what's the latest with Son? I'm assuming he's a big risk and it's probs best to sell him?

Even if the game at the weekend goes ahead and Son isn't one of the players that is unwell, what kind of team can they field. Plus it's not the best fixture for attacking returns even at full strength.

      Sell, sell, sell

Cue the game happens and he scores a hat trick.

        That would sound about right.

I can see myself taking a -8 this GW. Got McCarthy, Son, Jesus, Normann, Foster. Think its probably needed.

Team is a bit of a mess.

    Thoughts on -8:
Toney, Raph, Son -> Antonio, Bernardo, Sancho

    Sa (Steele)
    Alonso Cancelo Walker TAA (Livra)
    Salah Jota Raph* Son* (Gilmour)
    Toney* Wilson (Dennis)

Don’t hate it. I may go for Bowen over Sancho with those exact moves.

Alternatively, you could look at getting Ronaldo in for Toney and using the two midfield transfers to make the funds for that move

I actually like it to be fair. Sancho is a very maverick pick which I'm a fan of but he hasn't shown any form yet and I don't imagine he would get a big haul out of nowhere so for a minus point move it seems a risk.

It would be a -4 for me as well to change GK cause I've got Son who has to go.
I was thinking of De Gea

youd have to think hes one of the most nailed on GKs for a clean sheet this week meaning if he even got 6 points you still be up 2 points taking the hit into consideration. he also has a great run of fixtures

    B) Play Jimenez vs City

Silva or Gundog for Son. Fixtures are great. Jimenez might tick over but very hard fixtures.

I'd take the hit. Son is gonna be a problem next week as well. Might as well move early for a guy you want (City mid/Bowen) and that will free up an FT for next week or to roll.

This is the first week I've considered not capping Salah since the United game.

Ronaldo against Norwich. It's just tailor made for him to get a few.

But when I decide to go against Salah (c) it's when I don't think he'll do well and it's Villa at home... It's so hard to bet against him when he's at home and playing a non-top 6 team.

    1. Klopp's Kids
      • 10 Years

Think Villa will park the bus with Watkins on the break. Liverpool will struggle to contain him and Buendia.

      But Gerrard could surprise us.

Liverpool being at home edges it for me, and after looking at MOTD, for as improved as Villa look defensively, they still gave up some good chances to Leicester and looked a bit sloppy at the back at times. Gerrard wanting to hit on the counter will naturally at some point leave gaps

McCarthy, Son, Gallagher, Davis to DDG, Gundo, Bowen, Richarlison for a -8?

Richarlison could be another striker but somethings telling me to take the punt.

Also, of the moves above, which, if any, should I make tonight to avoid price changes?

    1. Cantonesque
      • 2 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

Looks a decent refresh, yep. Hits less painful when you know almost all the players going out are guaranteed 0 points.

Richarlison is a really interesting punt. If Antonio keeps failing I might take a look at that after Everton get Chelsea out of the way myself.

Looks safe from price changes tonight at least, De Gea maybe an outside chance, but who knows.

Cheers. Yeh I feel I just need get the -8 out the way as constantly putting out fires each week is stopping me making the moves I want to make.

With this I'll have both Antonio and Richarlison along with Jesus so can always bench for the Chelsea game.

I've just done the McCarthy to DDG move tonight just in case either price changes. Should be a safe swap but you never know

This is how I'll likely set up this GW, or how the team will look when Spurs don't play, already did a -4 last Sunday, my own fault lol.

    Sanchez
    James - Cancelo - TAA - Livramento

Very similar boat. You are fine if ESR and Jesus both play - Jesus is in light training. Wait for training photos on Friday

Yeah it's a damn pain isn't it mate, if both ESR & Jesus play then I'm a little calmer about stuff, so will wait for info sure, but I was to take a hit, I wouldn't know really apart from the mentioned above, I just played about and can do Jesus + Son > Ronaldo + Bowen for exact funds but I really wanted to stay away from Ronaldo lol.
I guess if taking hits like this though which would amount the to -12, I'd have to do high risk high reward moves.

Team in tatters with perils of early transfers with 3 players likely ruled out

    Guaita
    TAA Cancelo James (Livramento) (Veltman*)
    Salah Son* Jota Bernardo ESR*
    Vardy Toney* Dennis

    A. Son to Bowen for -4
    B. Son to Bowen, Vardy to Ronaldo for -8
    C. Son to Bowen, Vardy to Ronaldo, Toney to Antonio for -12
    D. Field 10 players (including Livramento and hope ESR plays)

Not B or C. If looks like Son out with Covid and Spurs Leicester game off, then might as well do A now

      B or C

Everyone on here is petrified of hits. They will always deter you. I’ve taken 2 heavy hits this season and both have paid of massively. Those hits looks logical to me, better than blanks or owning dropping assets who are either injured or won’t play

I’d wait for confirmation of Spurs Brighton cancellation though. Only one I would be concerned if is vardy to Ronaldo isn’t necessary although I do think Ronaldo will outscore him over Xmas period (not necessarily for this week though). Leicester have lots of Covid cases also so just wait and see

Oh I'm certainly no stranger to hits, have taken lots already and some huge ones have paid off last November. Just if Livra and EAR play there I'd prefer that over a hit, but certainly nothing against the hit either.

Honestly no. I have him and they always concede, especially late in games which is heart breaking. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

If you like your goal keeper regularly conceding after 90 mins go for it

From a Guaita owner since GW5

How much do we think toney’s price will drop before the weekend? Hoping to hold on getting him out until there’s a clear replacement (already have king)

      A

Chelsea defence just conceded 3 goals to West Ham and Zenit. As the stats were suggesting for a while that they eventually would.

    G2G? 0FT 0.2ITB

If Spurs game is off, Kane -> CR7 (-4) is probably worth it.

Well, in connection with my earlier post, and the fact tha it wasn't considering Ronaldo, would they following be worth it, taking me to a -12 in total?!

    Son + Jesus >> Bowen + Ronaldo

Would have to move quick though as this can be afforded for exact funds.

    Sanchez*
    James - Cancelo - TAA
    ESR* - Jota - Son* - Salah - Bernado
    Jesus* - Dennis
    _______________________________
    Foster* Livramento: Reguillon*: Toney*

Lot of issues here now, beginning to think this could be worth it.

Thanks gents, any further advice appreciated.
