Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 18?

Despite 10 teams missing out on Gameweek 18, all of the Premier League’s current top three are still in action.

That means there are options beyond Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) for the latest captaincy decision, especially for the more maverick managers amongst us.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 18 Captain Poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 13:30 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Mohamed Salah is the leader of the Gameweek 18 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 52.57% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden (£8.0m) is in second place, backed by 9.44% of users, ahead of his trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) occupied third place with 8.53% of votes before Aston Villa’s game was postponed, with the top-five list completed by Manchester City duo Joao Cancelo (£6.8m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m), with 6.91% and 6.2% respectively.

Mohamed Salah netted his 22nd goal of the season on Thursday, and in doing so, has equalled Jamie Vardy’s (£10.6m) record of scoring or assisting in 15 successive Premier League games. That means he has blanked just once across the opening 17 Gameweeks, as he continues to show a frightening level of consistency.

However, it’s worth noting that Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.2m) has outscored Salah in six of the last seven Gameweeks, thanks to a goal, four assists, four clean sheets and 12 bonus points.

        Usually good punts attract at least a little bit of interest but not the case with Ings for some unusual reason.

        I think with covid about and teams in so much disarray Ings is a bit punty as lacking match fitness and that is a risk too far given current dilemmas of teams.

          The move to Lacazette would be ideal. But Bowen to Ramsey is a massive downgrade and you'll probably want Bowen back soon. Safe option to do the defender transfer with 1FT then trouser the other so you got 2FT again next GW.

      Add up how many points you think you would gain from the players you'd free hit to. Then weigh it up against hits or saing it for a double game week.

        When both were fit Smith Rowe was the more nailed option. Saka was making bench cameos.

        I know this as i owned saka and picked him as i thought he was the better pick. Wont be falling for saka again in a hurry

        Smith Rowe is fully fit now. He was on the bench two games ago and made a cameo last day out.

        So Saka is not the more nailed player or you cant say that with certainty

          That was when Aub was there instead of Laca and they played a 4-2-2-2 .. with Laca Odo will play in behind and they'll need wingers in the form of Saka and Marti .. Az bought Marti for a reason. ESR should get the start this week with Marti cramping but long term I think he's the super sub who'll poach a 90min winner

      Be careful with this one. I picked Saka when both were fit a while back and Smith Rowe was then the more nailed player.

      Smith Rowe appears fully recovered from his knock and Saka hasn't inspired so in my eyes Smith Rowe is the more nailed option
