Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban?

We’re bringing you another Suspension Tightrope article as we approach Christmas, with the yellow cards steadily racking up for numerous Premier League players and the threat of a one-match ban looming.

There are a grand total of 40 Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) who are now just one booking away from a ban, while two players will miss Gameweek 19 as a consequence of picking up their fifth cautions of the campaign.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Budget FPL players Duffy and Bissouma 1

Budget midfielders Yves Bissouma (£4.4m) and Isaac Hayden (£4.5m) are the two players who will be absent in Gameweek 19 due to yellow card accumulation.

Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) will miss Gameweeks 19 and 20 as a result of his red card against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but Vladimir Coufal (£4.7m) will serve his own one-match ban from last week’s dismissal in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Reece James (£6.3m), Bernardo Silva (£7.6m), Ruben Dias (£6.1m) and Raphinha (£6.6m) are among the most-owned players on the above list but just have to make it through Gameweek 19, should their fixtures go ahead, without a caution in order to dodge a one-match ban.

Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) has two more matches to negotiate, however, while Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) won’t be in the clear until Gameweek 21.

Again, there’s more on cut-off dates in the bottom section.

There are some notable bench fodder names on the verge of unavailability, too, including Brandon Williams (£3.9m), Josh Brownhill (£4.4m) and Javier Manquillo (£3.9m).

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban? 7

There’s less to sweat about if your player is on three bookings: some are already in the clear (assets from the top four, Leeds, Wolves and Newcastle), while others just have to avoid picking up two bookings in as many Gameweeks.

There are 30 players in total on the above list of players still at risk but owners of Michail Antonio (£7.8m), Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) and Ollie Watkins (£7.9m) are unlikely to be losing any sleep over their current disciplinary statuses.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture.

That is not to be confused with Gameweek 19: due to the raft of postponements over the last month, only seven teams will fulfill their 19th league fixture in the coming Gameweek.

A club-by-club rundown is below:

Club19th League Fixture (as things stand)
ArsenalGW19
Aston VillaGW20
BrentfordGW21
BrightonGW21
BurnleyGW22
ChelseaGW19
Crystal PalaceGW20
EvertonGW20
LeedsGW19
LeicesterGW21
LiverpoolGW19
Man CityGW19
Man UtdGW21
NewcastleGW19
NorwichGW20
SouthamptonGW20
SpursGW22
WatfordGW21
West HamGW20
WolvesGW19

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

We get a second FH chip. Only caveat is the two can’t be used in successive GWs.

I don’t get this. Does it not mean your team resets and you have to activate the second free hit the following week? Or are they actually going to stop you playing 2 in a row?

Yeah I saw. It was FPLs second sentence that confused it slightly for me. It sounded like they were trying to remind people your free hit is only for 1 game week and not go in to the second week. Most know this obviously.

That should help you keep both FH ‘s for later in season- WC 19 or 20, BB 22 . That’s my thinking- I think!

I have two free transfers plus WC1 at around currently at around OR 70k, now I kind a wish I were more liberal, but OGs will always find a way. Hit me FPL one more time!

I’m saving wildcard for the 28th Dec deadline. Every change I’ve looked at for GW19 makes my team too different to the template, and it’s not as if managers around and below me will be jettisoning template players en mass this week

  4. Sgt Frank Drebin

Don't really think that free-hit chip is very useful, looks to me that many people caught themselves up with players they don't really want (like Lacazette) so would rather have a wildcard (usable, for example, only till GW21 or something) to restore our teams to the optimal ones

    1. Black Knights

You didn’t have to get Laca.

They gave us a FH. Complaining they didn’t give us a WC won’t change their mind.

It actually does. Another issue is that selling Salah when in Afcon and getting him back is going to be more difficult because of the money tied and the fact that he is too be easier to keep.

      One in GW21 or 22.

Will then use FTs to 'dead end' my team in BGW30 and WC the week after.

Will use second one whichever week looks optimal (or out of necessity due to postponements, etc).

    1FT - 2.8 ITB

    Ederson
    TAA, Cancelo, James, White
    Salah, Jota, Silva, Bowen
    Lacazette, Dennis
    Foster, Broja, ESR, Livramento

    Bearing postponements what to do?

    Play ESR, Dennis or Borja?

Save FT or use all of budget on Silva to Son?

ESR, Livramento and soon to be Lacazette seem bigger concerns.

Thanks guys. Spurs looked good v Liverpool but suppose it would be sensible to see how they perform against deep lying defences. Bernardo isn’t a bad pick as looks likely to get minutes in a good team.

Is starting ESR not a risk? I don’t think he can keep scoring off the bench.

The strategy for chip usage boils down to if there are 2 x DGW in 21 & 22, with teams involved in both (eg Tot, Mun) then it makes sense to WC in 21 and BB 22.

If no or limited DGWK 21 I suspect the majority will just FH in 22

Wildcarding into a BB trips many a team up.

Most people here will play the Fh chip the same time as others are or what people say on YouTube/ twitter so I don’t see the point in discussing it

So ultimately people will use a chip GW 22. So 17 GWS to utilise 5 chips. Here’s hoping to more cancellations, maximum carnage needed.

I think it's ridiculous, many of my rivals used their FH chip to get through the recent postponements while I stayed patient with 6 player's some weeks, now they have another one, you can't just change the rules mid season, we all knew about covid before the season started!

I don’t agree with it either, but just to avoid any confusion you also get a FH.

By the way if you ended up with 6 players and didn’t act to resolve it, then definitely do g have any sympathy

Yeah I know I get a second FH.
I didn't chose to have 6 player's FFS, I was just unlucky and had at least two players from every team that had a game postponed!

Its not worth it for only 4/5 players, especially with covid about, any decent player knows that you can get 11 extra players in a dgw

OK, so you think it's unfair that people used their free hit in a week you deem 'any decent player' wouldn't have used it?

You also have an additional free hit on people who used it last week, but still feel cheated?

              Your complaint isn't even logical.

I've now got 2 free hits to work with.

One for the traditional FA cup quarter final big blank and one for injuries or postponements etc.

Not something to moan about surely, it feels fair enough to everyone.

Don't agree, better players will have saved there FH, it's more of an advantage to those that have used their FH already as it will help them to navigate bigger blanks/double gameweeks

Why are people set on a FH in gwk22 not 21 before the fixtures are announced?

Predictions have it at 10 vs 12 games in 21 and 22 respectively. Could it be that you find yourself doing the opposite depending on what the fixtures are?
