FPL Gameweek 19 Scout Picks: City triple-up against injury-hit Leicester

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 19 ahead of Sunday’s 13:30 GMT deadline.

We’re already three fixtures down for the Boxing Day matches, with the postponement of Liverpool v Leeds United depriving us of the services of Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.3m) for the first time in a while.

We have gone for a 4-5-1 formation this week and, as ever, we are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are chosen from the budget/mid-price crop of players to give some potentially cost-effective alternatives to the big hitters who invariably make the initial cut.

GOALKEEPER

Norwich City are the division’s lowest scorers with a paltry eight goals in 17 matches and even the change in head coach hasn’t really addressed that weakness, with Dean Smith’s side finding the net on just one occasion in the last five league fixtures. A Covid outbreak isn’t likely to do the Canaries’ preparations any good, either, so Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m) wasn’t a difficult pick this week. As well as the opposition, he is also in on his own merit: he has the highest points-per-match average (5.1) of any first-choice goalkeeper this season and has prevented more ‘expected goals’ (4.2) than any other shot-stopper bar Jose Sa.

        Cheers. Upside of James is probably worth the riskier clean sheet compared to Gabriel’s lack of attacking threat.

        Given deadline is only 1.5 hrs ahead of City game I should be safe doing a C and VC from them I hope…feels risky though.

    I am going to going to get rid of Salah this week. I know Son is the best asset but I think KDB might be a good one against Leicester given their 1) poor defence and 2) injuries. Am I overthinking it or should I just go for Son?

      Nah I love KDB.
      If I were moving Salah I would do KDB over Son (Palace aren’t bad at all) but I have 3x City already so it’s not a choice.

      Honestly, I'd be tempted to do Salah ➡ Son and leave it at that.

      If a 2nd player was to leave it would be Dennis because of AFCON. Is Antonio out? I thought Moyes indicated he's probably OK?

      Salah, Dennis ➡ Bowen, Ronaldo (-4) would work, wouldn't it? Or Trossard instead of Bowen, I like his prospects too.

      Doesn't look like the heavy surgery is needed and a FH surely isn't. Son & Ronaldo are not essential to have. But if you want to go the whole way with a -8 I'd be structuring your squad more efficiently with a cheap midfielder like Gilmour as the enabler.

        Yeah that's a sound point in opting for a cheap mid like Gilmour to structure elsewhere, i was thinking possibly Hojberg? Like a crack at goal and seems to grab assists here and there.

      It totally depends on what the -8 or -12 actually consists of. Are these players leaving that you want to lose, maybe that have AFCON or poor fixtures or just had their time? And are they players coming in that you want for a longer period of some weeks at least or are they just for this week?

      If you are removing players that need to go and adding players mainly for the medium-term then a -12 is better than a FH. If it is mainly focused on GW19 and some of the players leaving you'll want back soon and/or some arriving are only short-term then the FH is better. It's not about the points cost; it's about what you are effecting with your squad.

        Yes it’s low but I think his head is turned already & Bielsa doesn’t seem like a manager who would want unhappy players around.

        He probably has a back up plan otherwise Leeds could go down. Most importantly they need to sort out their defence
