Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban?

We’re bringing you another Suspension Tightrope article as Gameweek 20 hurtles into view, with the yellow cards steadily racking up for numerous Premier League players and the threat of a one-match ban looming.

There are a grand total of 32 Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) who are now just one booking away from a ban, while three players are red-flagged as a consequence of picking up their fifth cautions of the campaign on Boxing Day.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Christian Norgaard (£5.0m), Tyrone Mings (£5.0m) and Declan Rice (£5.1m) all reached the unwanted target of five yellow cards on Boxing Day and will miss their sides’ next match – in the case of Mings, that will be Gameweek 21.

Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) will sit out Gameweeks 20 and 21 as a result of his red card against Tottenham Hotspur a week ago, while Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) won’t be involved in Gameweek 20 after being dismissed for two bookings in the defeat to Spurs on Sunday.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Of the notable names in the above list, Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) has one more match to negotiate until the threat of a one-match ban passes, while Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Raphinha (£6.5m) won’t be in the clear until Gameweek 21 has been and gone – assuming there are no more postponements, of course.

Callum Wilson (£7.4m) and Javier Manquillo (£3.9m) will have seen off any danger if they avoid a booking tonight.

Again, there’s more on cut-off dates in the bottom section.

SAFE FROM A ONE-MATCH BAN

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City fulfilled their 19th league fixture on Boxing so a handful of big names sitting on four yellow cards, namely Marcos Alonso (£5.7m), Reece James (£6.4m), Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) and Ruben Dias (£6.2m), are now in the clear.

Rodri (£5.5m) and Albert Sambi Lokonga (£4.7m) are also now out of danger.

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

There’s less to sweat about if your player is on three bookings: some are already in the clear (assets from Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, West Ham, Wolves, Villa, Southampton, Palace, Leeds, Newcastle and Norwich), while others just have to avoid picking up two bookings in as many Gameweeks.

There are 21 players in total on the above list of players still at risk but owners of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m), Ivan Toney (£6.6m) and Demarai Gray (£5.5m) are unlikely to be losing any sleep over their current disciplinary statuses.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture.

That is not to be confused with Gameweek 19: due to the raft of postponements over the last month, only four teams have fulfilled or will fulfill their 19th league fixture in the current round of matches.

A club-by-club rundown is below (clubs in italics have already played their 19th match):

Club19th League Fixture (as things stand)
ArsenalGW19
Aston VillaGW21
BrentfordGW21
BrightonGW21
BurnleyGW23
ChelseaGW19
Crystal PalaceGW20
EvertonGW21
LeedsGW21
LeicesterGW21
LiverpoolGW20
Man CityGW19
Man UtdGW21
NewcastleGW19
NorwichGW20
SouthamptonGW20
SpursGW22
WatfordGW22
West HamGW20
WolvesGW21

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

Not Zaha fan but i actually do sympathize with him some times, every team just puts him into the ground, one by one so they collectively only gets yellow and then when he loses it he gets red. And to be fair he is dragged to the ground almost every time he got the ball. And he is considered a cheater by the refs so when ever he falls down they just suspect he drives, which he some times does but not always. I dont think he gets treated fairly by the refs, and that is why he some times gets hot headed. And he knows that opponent teams switches players to go at him on purpose so they gets him riled up but when they get 3 separate yellow he gets a red. I can understand why some times.

Teams to this to lots of players, Zaha is not isolated. He should really have learned by now. He's been in this league long enough. And his red was idiotic yesterday. His first foul was on Sanchez when he raked down the back of his Achilles, nowhere near the ball, and his second was needless after Sanchez was shielding the ball. He's a hot head, something people used to lambaste Dele Alli for being when he first arrived in the league. If Zaha can't learn from continuous mistakes then he's not as good as he or others think he is.

Just because he is not the only one to be targeted is not an argument.
I dont sympatize with his actions, it is the mental aspect of being targeted by opponents players in a vindicated Manner to get him out og order and that refs not helping him out by being more fair in their judgement.
And yes he can be better at controlling his temper, but my point was not that.
I dont rate him high as a football er, yes gifted with his feet and has lots of tricks in his bag but is not a team player, a bit of a luxury player defense wise, albeit not the worst example, cause he tries but simply not good enough from a tactical pov. Good for a team like Palace, but not the level to play for the best teams as he lacks so much in critical areas.

Wildcarding myself but I don't think Ronaldo is essential at 12.5m. 5.2 ppg is pretty damning when you consider that the likes of Tielemans & Gundog (who most people probably wouldn't consider in their draft) can beat that.

Kane is the better option, but three players from one club could be problematic with further Covid proponents still likely.

Fabianski worth a shout. I know he’s not a popular choice but Pickford has good fixtures. I’m hoping for a Guaita recovery and return to form but can’t say I’ve enjoyed owning him. Sanchez great but difficult fixture

As things stand, I've got 11 outfield player with games this week but no keeper. Looking to use my FT on one of these moves, what do you think?

    A) Ramsdale to Lloris
    B) non-playing keeper to Guaita (if he's confirmed available)

A - could also be De Gea but I've already got Dalot and the next 2 Man Utd games are so far off the deadline I could always be left without 2 players, whilst Spurs play quite early, look better on the eye, should have doubles soon and I don't have their defensive cover, only Son

B - not sold on Guaita/Palace defense at all but he does cover Ramsdale blanks nicely + 2 playing keepers seems like a good idea

    1. Fish up a tree
      • 2 Years

B but Sanchez looks like a better option than Guaita tbh

      1. cigan

Sanchez does play for a better team, though I prefer Guaita's fixtures for the weeks I'm looking to play him:

        Sanchez:
        - 20. Chelsea: CS unlikely, could get some save pts
        - 21. Everton: good
        - 25. Watford: decent attacking-wise under Ranieri
        - 27. Villa: tough

        Guaita:
        - 20. Norwich: great
        - 21. West Ham: would probably prefer Ramsdale vs. City
        - 25. Brentford: good
        - 27. Burnley: good

I can but I have just Broja for cover and I have a few players whose minutes are in doubt imo. Don’t see Bernardo playing, Foden who knows, Dalot and AWB will rotate especially with fixtures so close together, Alonso/James are due a rest.

You’re worrying about things that may or not happen. Focus on the most likely outcome. Evidence suggests Bernardo plays more than most City mids, Dalot is in favour, Alonso has no competition, James tends to play.

I agree under normal circumstances but with 2/3 days between games you have to consider these things. Saul has been trialled al LWB as has CHO and Azpi will get minutes. The fact Bernardo has played so many minutes goes against him if anything.

Foden. Mainly because he’s a twit and this gets him benched. Bernardo seems to start more regularly than other City mids.

I think with Mahrez going to AFCON, people are going to regret selling Foden.

I wouldn't get rid of Foden yet. Bernardo hasn't had a rest for a while and Foden came on as a sub which might mean he will start (considering the shortish turnaround). I'd be tempted to get Bernardo oout given he's not getting in dangerous positions frequently.

Absolutely clueless on WC. No idea where to spend my hard-earnt cash! Currently aiming for players with possible DGW21 and good fixtures either side of DGW22 (when I would FH or TC). Save BB for more predictable times. DCL is probably not worth the risk, is he?

    DDG
    TAA Cancelo Laporte Reguilon Dalot
    Jota Bowen Jota
    Ronaldo DCL

Pickford | Gray, Maddison, Broja | 3.0 ITB

Wouldn’t overthink it myself - that looks solid. Why not go Watkins over DCL seeing as you have a sufficient bench for GW20 and you also have Gray - surely you’ve not seen enough to double up on Everton?

Yeah one reason I have 3 United players, 2 Spurs. But Cornet is injured and Pope expensive, so I went with no Burnley. I've avoided triple ups on outfield players, despite my instinct to triple on United and Spurs due to fixture quality and quantity!
