FPL Gameweek 20 Scout Picks: Liverpool players return to the fray

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 20 ahead of today’s 13:30 GMT deadline.

There are seven selections from Tuesday’s round of matches as we try to avoid too many unnecessary risks, given the potential for more late-in-the-week postponements – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Everton v Newcastle United fall, for example, given the myriad injury and illness issues at both clubs.

We have gone for a 4-5-1 formation this time and, as ever, we are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are chosen from the budget/mid-price crop of players to give some potentially cost-effective alternatives to the big hitters who invariably make the initial cut.

GOALKEEPER

Crystal Palace aren’t exactly in stellar defensive form but they’ll have every chance to boost their meagre clean sheet count on Tuesday, when the division’s lowest scorers pay a visit to Selhurst Park. With none of the Eagles’ defenders offering too much in the way of attacking threat, Jack Butland (£4.4m) gets the nod as a budget-freeing pick between the sticks. Patrick Vieira’s side, as every stats nerd will keep reminding you, boast the fifth-lowest expected goals conceded (xGC) tally this season, with those underlying numbers so far not translating into shut-outs.

My cup rival has Salah and I feel I can mitigate the damage with Jota or Trent.

GW19 Mini-League Leaders - a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after Gameweek 19, when another three matches were postponed, quite a few Free Hit chips were played and many of the mini-leagues now have new leaders.

    ** FFS OPEN MINI-LEAGUE

Srecko Kurtovic leads for an eleventh week in the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) and is back up to third overall after captaining Mahrez.

    ** FFS COMMUNITY MEMBERS MINI-LEAGUE

Daniel Masson-Abraham leads for a thirteenth week in the Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c) and is back up to second overall, three points behind world number one Oscar (FPL Focal) and ten ahead of Srecko Kurtovic, after captaining Son.
This league is also open to all and the league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home Page when signed in, but only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes.

    ** LAST MAN STANDING

See https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).

The highest scorer was Steven Chen whose Free Hit returned 82 points.

The safety score was 29, with 101 teams to be removed and 791 going through to Gameweek 20. It will remain open till Gameweek 22, but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (https://torresmagic.webs.com/lmsupdate.htm) to qualify.

    **FFS CUPS

Gameweek 19 was the sixth round of the FFS Open Cup (see https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/cup/26/rounds/6/ for the round 6 pairings).
The highest ranked manager in round six (elfortu) was beaten 34-52 by Bousy_Boozer who played his Free Hit, the second highest (I Member) lost 62-75 to Restored after both played their Free Hits, the third highest (Jay_) lost 39-53 to Matjes_taet and the fourth highest (tomkelly25) lost 41-45 to Fusen. This leaves Matjes_taet (now 4,288th) as the highest ranked manager through to round seven, which will be played in Gameweek 21.

It was also the fifth round of the FFS Members Cup (see (https://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/cup/27/rounds/5/ for the round 5 pairings). The highest ranked manager in round five (Minority Laporte) won again, but I Member (449th) has overtaken him and is the highest ranked manager through to round six, which will also be played in Gameweek 21.

These FFS Cups are organised by Fantasy Football Scout and should not be confused with any similarly named League Cups listed on FPL’s Leagues & Cups page.

    ** FFS HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

Martin Stubbs still leads League 1 of MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues (https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/head-to-head-leagues/) by eight points from Cak Juris.

The joint highest scorers with 54 points each out of a possible 57 are now Andre Cooley (League 8 Division 99), Rohan Chaterjee (League 8 Division 114), Viktor Torkelsson (League 9 Division 72) and Sean Graham (League 9 Division 121).

** MODS & CONS AND FFS FAMILY

Chaz Phillips (Az) leads for a sixth week in the FFS Mods & Cons mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/366/standings/c). Chris Atkinson (RMT’s Professor) is now level with him on points but has made a greater number of transfers.

Obay Eid (FPL_Milanista) has regained the lead from J Martin (Pilot Flame) in the FFS Family mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/342/standings/c) after both played their Free Hit chips and is now 646th overall. He has now led for seventeen weeks, with Pilot Flame leading for the other two.

    ** TOPS AND VETS

Tabz Hashimi has regained the lead from Aidan O’Boyle (Minority Laporte) in my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1378/standings/c, league code kgmryk) after playing his Free Hit and is now 177th overall. He previously led from Gameweek 10 to Gameweek 15 and again after Gameweek 17.

Geir Vinslid is the new leader in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1386/standings/c, league code 03t1fd), which is for teams with two or more top 10,000 finishes, and has risen to 1,671st overall after playing his Free Hit. He finished 2,932nd in 2015/16 and 6,271st in 2016/17, and is 267th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

Grey Head (The Great and the Good) is the new leader in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/10031/standings/c, league code 01ef8y) and is now 821st overall. He finished 8,429th in 2012/13 and 85th in 2018/19, and is 684th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

Jonathan Tan has regained the lead from Julian Hancock in Jed Alexander (Livinginapool)’s Top 100 Any Season mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/194472/standings/c, league code pztxjt) and is now 1,856th overall. He finished 81st in 2014/15 and 4,117th in 2017/18, and previously led after Gameweek 8, with Julian leading for all of the other 13 weeks since Gameweek 5.

2009/10 FPL champion Jon Reeson (Westfield Irons) leads for a fifteenth week in Simon March’s FPL Champions League (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/2594/standings/c).

Rajko Gojkovic is the new leader in Chaballer’s Hall of Fame Top 1k mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/39527/standings/c, league code 1zpaad) and has risen to 6,404th overall. He finished 3,680th in 2017/18 and 526th in 2018/19 , and is 380th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

Adam Straker is the new leader in Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/25315/standings/c, league code hz9bz2) after playing his Free Hit. His best finish was 7,125th in 2019/20.

Can't decide whether to go De Gea or Lloris. Lloris has an additional fixture in hand, but De Gea seems to be slightly safer given how many people are going for DDG. His ownership is gonna skyrocket...

I'd wait until about 2:53 to make your transfers, just to be on the safe side
