FPL team news: Gameweek 21 Covid latest plus injury updates

We’ve got the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team news information in our first press conference summary ahead of Gameweek 21.

Thursday’s pressers feature words from Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

For much more detailed information, check out our Predicted Line-ups page (which is being refreshed on Friday evening) and Injuries and Bans feed.

And for other help and advice, from our weekly Scout Picks to team reveals, there will soon be a complete Gameweek 21 guide.

LEICESTER CITY

 1

James Maddison and Jamie Vardy were both seen struggling in the second half of Leicester’s win over Liverpool and the update brings mixed news. Whilst in-form Maddison was expected to be fine to face former club Norwich (a game that was subsequently postponed), manager Brendan Rodgers believes Vardy will be out for at least a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

“It depends, it could be the next three to four weeks (for Vardy). He wasn’t sure whether it was that (in a challenge with Joël Matip) or he felt the pain then. He ran on and soldiered on which he wanted to do, but the scan has shown up as that (a hamstring injury) so it could be three to four weeks.” – Brendan Rodgers

The injuries have really piled up for the Foxes and the situation is about to be made worse now that Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Daniel Amartey are set to depart for African Cup of Nations duty and miss Gameweek 21.

Although Harvey Barnes (knock) is back training with the squad and Ryan Bertrand (knee) isn’t far behind, Rodgers added that the others “are still at least three weeks away” from returning – referring to the likes of Ricardo Pereira (leg), Caglar Soyuncu (hamstring), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Patson Daka (hamstring), James Justin (match fitness) and Wesley Fofana (leg).

“JJ (James Justin), we just need to get some games into him, he was due to play a game and he was off for 10 days or so, so he’s going to be a few weeks away. He’s back training, which is great news for us. Wesley Fofana, we’re looking into February for him.” – Brendan Rodgers

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Steven Bergwijn (calf) got hurt during Gameweek 19’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, which Antonio Conte says will keep him out of the trip to Watford.

Cristian Romero remains absent with a hamstring injury, while Ryan Sessegnon is targeting next weekend’s FA Cup game to return from his.

Giovani Lo Celso (calf) is back available, however.

“Giovani Lo Celso has recovered from his injury, and he’s available for the game against Watford. Romero, Bergwijn and Sessegnon are still out, but the good news for us is Giovani has recovered.” – Antonio Conte

WEST HAM UNITED

On top of the known injuries to Angelo Ogbonna (knee) and Kurt Zouma (hamstring), another absentee has been named as Pablo Fornals (Covid).

“We don’t have any more numbers because it’s something you can’t really say much about. It changes daily. We’re completely unsure what’s going to happen, but today’s update would be we’re pretty clear.” – David Moyes’ Covid update

It is still unknown as to when Aaron Cresswell will return from the back injury that has kept him out of action since Gameweek 14.

FPLMarc Newcastle fan that spends far too much time thinking about FPL.

Norwich has requested postponement of the Leicester game due to covid.

This would enable no dgw21 for Leicester and maddison

Looking at ben crellins latest charts, everton may have a double in 21. So replace maddison with gray.

I like Gray as an option with the fixtures. DCL slow integration could be advantageous. He did well in the absence of forwards previously

            welcome mate.

The way i see it, unless you're wilcarding anytime soon.
If u take Salah out for son, ull have extra cash to spend for another transfer, which probably means another hit.
Then when u wana bring Salah back, unless on a WC, its probably another 2 transfers, -4.
So 2 transfers and 2 hits.
            Worth it?

Im keeping Mo for this game, focusing on the mid ranged mids, Bowen, Maddy. After chealsea once we have enuff info on GW 22 ill make an informed decision.

              • 9 Years

Good point mate. I already have Bowen so one option is to do Salah to Son during GW22, and then Son back to Salah after AFCON. I do have money ITB to do ESR to Maddy as well so will not require a hit..as long as I resist the tempting to bring in Ron or Kane!

              DDG Foster
              TAA Cancelo James Rudi Livra
              Salah Foden Bowen ESR Jota

                • 6 Years
                2 years, 3 months ago

ok your team gives me some context.

id first get rid of James. then ESR. those are higher priority than Salah.

IMO Kane and CR7 arent worth it with Antonio/Watkins/DCL/King/Dennis all having doubles and amazing games, its value.

Allows you to double up on heavy hitters in mid.
So ESR to Maddy now, or James to one of the dudes on the hot topic would make more sense.

Strive for "playing" players next week, and every week. you never know what might happen.

I guess that’s the only reason to contemplate an early move right now.

I’m thinking about getting tickets to the arsenal vs city game… do you think it will get postponed or not? I was originally going to the arsenal vs wolves match which got postponed annoyingly.

Likelihood of DDG starting tonight? Heard rumours Henderson is gonna get the nod.

DDG been their best player. Where have these rumours come from? Do they relate to the FA Cup game next week?

There were rumors going round he’d missed training. But he’s been pictured with the squad today so it was ‘much-a-do-about-nothing’

      DDG 99.99999% to start today

      I’d like to know this.
He’s finally needed again in my team due to the Chelsea boys falling off the map.

He had ‘fluid’ on his knee. Which doesn’t sound great to me, but I’m not a doctor.

Anyone in Everton's defense worth picking up for James? The season ticker looks good but I haven't seen many of their matches...maybe Keane?

Bit of a minefield the Everton defence at the minute, not clear who is starting. Went for Pickford in my WC draft in the end.

Nobody has, they haven't played since the 16th Dec! Tbh no one from their defence is worth considering imo

    Wildcard draft:

    de Gea
    Cancelo, TAA, Reguilon, Cucurella
    Bowen, Tielemans, Maddison, Son
    Iheanacho, Kane

    Sa, Lowton, Ramsey, King

Yep Iheanacho will be moved on after Norwich if that goes ahead, City mid to come in after the DGWs

    3. Tonyawesome69

Nacho is still a good pick for the Norwich game before he goes to AFCON and if the game is still on.

Yeah I like him if the Norwich game goes ahead, will look to get a replacement when he's of to Afcon either Watkins or DCL

    WC draft:

    ramsdale - sanchez
    lowton taa dias cancelo reguilon
    son maddison ramsey jota bowen
    kane antonio dennis.

    dennis --> king for afcon.

any suggestion to improve my draft?
my doubts are: jota, maddison kane try double def city e no mid city
