Southampton v Newcastle postponed as second Gameweek 21 fixture falls

Southampton v Newcastle United has become the second Gameweek 21 fixture to be postponed.

The game has been called off due to a lack of numbers in the Magpies’ squad and follows the earlier announcement that Leicester City v Norwich City wouldn’t go ahead on New Year’s Day.

A Premier League statement said:

 “Southampton FC’s match against Newcastle United at St Mary’s Stadium, due to be played at 2pm on Sunday 2 January, has regrettably been postponed.

“Newcastle United continue to have ongoing COVID-19 cases and injuries that led to their match against Everton FC being called off earlier this week. The Board accepted the postponement application as the club does not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper).

“The Board was able to make its decision in advance of the fixture to give clarity to the affected clubs and their fans. We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused to supporters’ festive plans.”

        Against Chelsea yeah. Jota due a rest and will have his time when Salah leaves. TAA and Cancelo is a coin toss for me. There is a case for benching a United full-back of course, but I like their CS chance (see CS odds), and either one could get a hattrick of assists in any good fixture they start imo

          I like to play the odds too. Beating the "house" over time is fairly difficult.
          Might not turn out well in this case, but it's a risk that on average should net you more points.

      I don't see where you are making that hit back. Lowton could get a double but it is Leicester and Villa. I wouldn't expect a clean sheet in those games.

      I'm playing him but I'm a Gooner...I wouldn't take a hit to get rid of him personally especially at his price bracket. Worst case scenario he gets you 2 points. But you never know with him, he's a born finisher.

      Just because he got a return the other night, that's it. I mentioned him earlier in the season and was told he's too expensive for a Brighton defender even though he has good cs and attacking potential. He'll be gone from everyone's minds if he concedes and doesn't return this week like every other player that suddenly is a really good option once they do anything

        My thoughts exactly.

        Brighton can control a game but are horrible at finishing. Maupay is a horrible finisher and they rely on an array of attacking threats (shots, set pieces, etc) score or and close the game down.

        With that setup, i dont care how advanced he is, for a 5.0 he just wont come through, and 19 gws is a good enuff sample to see that.

        Like you said, once he picked up an assist, he got the hype.

        Dont get me wrong he’s class; but with that setup he isnt FPL dream stuff.
