Fantasy Football Scout and Sky Sports Fantasy Football to join forces in 2021/22 1

A chaotic and Covid-ravaged festive fixture schedule is now in the rear-view mirror, so it is time for Sky managers to plan their final transfers before the second Overhaul, which begins after the games on the 23rd of this month.

With a finalised set of January fixtures – including rearranged games – now in the diary, finally we have all the information we need to plot our way through the next few game weeks.

PICK YOUR SKY OVERHAUL TEAM HERE

Initially, the extra fixtures seemed much easier to manage than many expected, particularly the midweek fixtures on the 18th and 19th, which can be covered with highly-owned Manchester United and Chelsea players such as Cristiano Ronaldo (£11.8m) and Antonio Rudiger (£9.0m).

But the trickier fixtures come this week, especially after Everton v Leicester City was postponed on Sunday evening, leaving only Southampton v Brentford on Tuesday night and a plum tie for West Ham United against Norwich City on Wednesday.

Bowen v Antonio: West Ham's FPL attacking options compared

Both Michail Antonio (£8.8m) and Jarrod Bowen (£8.2m) are well-owned and will offer captaincy options to the 70% of top 1k managers who own at least one of the pair.

Those without West Ham coverage may also consider the in-form Manuel Lanzini (£7.6m), who comes in off the back of a monster haul against Crystal Palace and a goal in the FA Cup against Leeds United on Sunday. With Said Benrahma away at AFCON for the remainder of the month, security of starts looks guaranteed for the next remaining games and penalty duties add to the Argentine’s differential appeal. Turning now to Tuesday, where the only remaining team with four fixtures prior to the overhaul feature – Thomas Frank’s Brentford.

The Bees’ only consistent (albeit unspectacular) points scorer in the last six or seven weeks has been budget midfield man Christian Norgaard (£6.2m), who has picked up bonus points in four of his last five starts. A continuation of this decent form could quite easily justify a transfer for an injured or AFCON-bound player, just don’t expect a whole lot more than 15-25 points in this run.

From a Southampton point of view, only James Ward-Prowse (£8.6m) holds any significant appeal but the Saints only have two games after Brentford, which includes a visit from Manchester City. The midfield maestro has racked up 32 points in his last three outings but the onus would be on the England man to deliver on the single game day to justify his purchase.

Personally, I wouldn’t usually fret about skipping games such as Southampton vs Brentford but, with two players in my team out of action until the overhaul in Reece James and Mo Salah, I’ll probably roll the dice on Norgaard or Toney. Purely because they’ll justify a transfer even with a smattering of two-pointers, which I wouldn’t be surprised by in a difficult run of games.

The only other single game day in January involves the other team whose assets I would consider drafting in ahead of the Overhaul – Watford.

 1

The Hornets’ standalone game against Norwich on Friday 21st is sandwiched between appealing fixtures against Newcastle United and Burnley – both of which could be captaincy games.

Emmanuel Dennis (£5.5m) and Josh King (£7.6m) are the only real options, with Dennis the preferred pick after a brilliant season in front of goal. On 104 points, he is the best value player in the game and fourth overall in points scored by forwards. However, the Nigerian talisman was absent from Watford’s FA Cup squad with a minor injury that resulted in his halftime substitution against Spurs on New Years Day. He was also rumoured to be furious about Watford’s decision to prevent him joining up with the national team at AFCON this month, so does come with a reasonable element of risk.

King therefore may be the safer pick for those unwilling to risk Dennis. Though the former Bournemouth striker does come with penalty duties and a guaranteed starting place, he has struggled to find the net as frequently as Dennis and continues to operate wide on the left as opposed to his teammate who plays as a number nine. I would advise waiting for further information on Dennis prior to the weekend’s game with Newcastle.

In summary, I don’t see huge gains to be made from transfers in Sky between now and the Overhaul at the end of the month and would encourage managers to keep purse strings tight where possible, avoiding luxury moves. But strategic picks from the likes of Brentford, West Ham and Watford to cover single game days could yield points returns high enough to warrant a dabble into the transfer market this January.

It's a different kind of bad luck sure, but is it really that different to load up on players to have a match postponed than to captain a player with good stats and a prime fixture only for them to blank? So far I've been lucky with the postponements but I have captained havertz for the infamous 7-0 blank, Salah for his pen miss and Ronaldo for his Newcastle blank.

Maybe more variance this year than most but there is always a lot of luck involved in fpl and one thing is guaranteed that the winner will have had a shed load, no matter what the season.

A big part of what sells on this site is “planning”. Something you can’t do in the conventional way anymore.

A lot of FPL is managing probability, planning is more important now than ever given there are even more factors to consider in your probability estimations.

Given Leicester will likely still only have 8 first team players there is a pretty high chance the game vs Burnley will also be called off and they won’t get DGW22.

They would need 4 or more first team players to return to fitness for it to go ahead.

Even if the game goes ahead… we have 17 first team players out, I’m a fan and I won’t be picking anyone. If on FH and the double goes ahead, then maybe a forward. Maybe.

Sgw options like Trent who could easily blank just aren't worth it. Even without attacking returns CR7 should get 4-5 pts. If Liv conecedes Trent needs one assist to match. No way am I captaining sgw option. Even Dennis over Jota or Trent.

If Liverpool don't concede and Trent gets an assist he outscores CR7 in your scenario and CR7 has hardly been convincing up to now. So single GW options could well be worth it.

He is Ronaldo and he is expensive. Kane without Son is a question mark. Lei situation is unclear and Dennis' minutes might be an issue. He has been stats buster, is his run over? Over two games he might easily get one pen and perhaps lucky tap in.

    Good luck this season

Man City - very few guaranteed starters + no stand-out goalscorer
Liverpool - best players in Africa currently, they will be useless without them
Chelsea - can't defend any more + no stand-out goalscorer
    Arsenal - blanks ahead
    Spurs - mess
    Utd - shambles
West Ham - no cleanies but Bowen, Formals and Antonio are good
Wolves - amazing defence + no one scores. As soon as you pick their defence, thy will concede
Lei - unreliable, sometimes quality, often terrible

    so go 2 X city, 2 x Liv, 2 x WH, 1 x wolves, 1 x Lei and then take a punt on the other 7

Holding for now. He isn't going to miss that many league games even if Egypt do well. Saying "it's 13 million on the bench" is one thing - transferring him out and then scrambling to get him back is another.

Bit surprised to see quite a few planning to go with double Chelsea on FH.

Was all set on my plans, but postponements have thrown a proper spanner in the works.. Was all set on doing Bilva > Maddison so I had 7DGW players and pushing my BB chip, now Son is out and TAA, Dennis both flagged. Rumours on Coufal covid too? Anyone got any suggestions on what to do here. 2m in the bank and 1FT.

    Lloris
    Taa - Cancelo - Coufal

Team looks good, I expect both TAA and Dennis to be good to go.

Yeah but I'm thinking of playing my BB so would likely do Son > a DGW player and then playing the BB, would give me 6 potentially 7 double gameweekers.

I read on here previously that Dennis should be fine for the next game. Trent will probably be ok too, but you have decent cover on the bench if not.

I'd probably get someone in for Son - possibly Bruno, Maddison, Moura, etc.

Also probably worth considering Broja to King (DGW followed by Norwich).

I wonder if Son could make another of his miracle comebacks from injury? Can't be that bad if they only predicted 2 weeks, so could it be just one? Nobody even knew he was injured when he was subbed for non injury related reasons. I think I will start him just in case, he could easily make the Leicester game, in fact I predict he will..

This is what I’ve been thinking due to previous shenanigans. Son does seem to get better quicker than most. Will obviously wait for Friday and if Conte does intimate he has a chance will make sense to leave him in. Also interesting that FPL have not ruled him out FWIW.

Need Conte presser. But I think it's more likely he's out for a while than the chance he comes back for Leicester.

Also, if he misses GW22 he has Chelsea in GW23. Might as well just sell and then look to buy back later or on WC24 alongside Salah who could be back by then.

Thoughts on rather ignoring this DGW, especially Leicester frauds, and just going Broja Son to Dennis City mid -4 ?

    DDG/Foster
    TAA/Cancelo/Coufal/Alonso/Duffy
    Son/Jota/Bowen/Gray/Martineli
    Ronaldo/Antonio/Broja

Wouldn't say frauds for the trying the system on. Every club's got clart on their hands to one extent or another.

No to Maddison due to the risk of Leicester games being postponed. King could be a good differential (Burnley could also ask for postponement though).

    Your help is needed please

Would you WC this team or take a -8 (Salah, Jesus and James > Jota, Ronaldo and Regulion) instead (FH already used in GW21)

    Ramsdale De Gea

    Rudiger Cancelo James Mitchell Tsimikas

    Salah Bernardo Saka Bowen Mbeumo

    Jesus Lacazette Dennis

    1.5 ITB 1 FT

    Any ideas would be welcomed

    Foster*
    TAA* Cancelo Reguilon (James** Livramento*)
    Salah** Foden* Jota Gallagher (ESR)
    Dennis* DCL Watkins*

Any help appreciated... was thinking a potential -4 at least for Salah Watkins to Moura Ronaldo

I don't think anything else is worth doing unless you can't field 11, in which case you'll probably need to replace one of ESR, James or Livra.

Leicester and Liverpool could’ve had their games postponed according to rules if they wanted to but it was better to get the game out of the way now rather than have to play it midweek between 2 Prem games

Although they won't admit it, the cup competitions are fast becoming an irrelevance to a lot of PL clubs, hence they play their 2nd team or U21's.

Relatively little money involved, risk of injuries, increased fatigue, etc makes it nothing more than an unwanted additional fixture with very lttle upside other than the Europa slot for the eventual winner.

No one obvious and maybe not anyone with a double - maybe someone like a jota - going to hurt you if he bangs against Brentford

Even a Ronaldo I mean they are rubbish but he’s over 30% owns so if he gets a goal in each game it wouldn’t be ideal

Listening to yet another FPL'er moaning about the Leicester postponement, namely FPL Sonaldo saying it made no sense on Ted Talks podcast . It made perfect sense as Leicester only have 8 1st team players available due to either illness, Covid and also Afcon. The rules clearly state a club should have 13 available 1st team players. These rules are basic and clear for all, let alone alleged FPL "experts" who should get basic facts correct before spouting rubbish.

Leicester have been soldiering on on a threadbare squad and a whole defence side lined for a long time. Absentees are Evans, Fofana, Syoncu, Justin, Pererria, Vardy, Daka, Soumare,Inheacho,Mendy, Dewsbury Hall, Bertrand. I will have missed a few more no doubt.

Extreme example but if a team has 13 of their 25 players away competing in afcon, would they be able to get games postponed or would the league tell them it's their own fault and tell them to play with their 12 remaining register players plus some under 23's?

Afcon just added to Leicester's problems, but the injury and illness list is ridiculous. I think Leicester could have easily got more games postponed. They have carried on until its just about impossible.

You reminded me the small loss of Ndidi to my list as well as Amartey.

Also this is also just a Fantasy game and to be honest the amount of bedwetting that has gone on over this is unreal. Its a good game but some folk need some real hobbies !

I for one am enjoying the chaos, as you say, it's just a game and the more swerve balls means there is more chance of getting the edge over others. Yes, it can bite you in the ARS but that's no different from a player missing a penalty, getting injured in the warm up etc etc. Embrace the mayhem, sit on the sofa rather than hide behind it and watch it all unfold.

can't really blame Leicester for asking for a postponement, but we can blame the PL for including non covid related issues in the criteria for postponements, the main issue people are upset about is that Leicester could cobble together a team to thump another PL team in the cup, but now say they don't have enough players to play in the league, again we should blame the PL as they could have made the same rules for the league as for the cup just for this year

The rules for the FA cup are different and the number of players who either started or were on the bench v Watford were unrecognisable, even to us Leicester fans.

That said it was a great opportunity for some of those players, but there is too much at stake and money involved in the premier league for such risks to be taken.
