Last chance to enter FanTeam’s £100k half-season game – start on 95% of average score

Sponsored by FanTeam

Thought you’d missed the boat on FanTeam‘s £100k FPL-style Fantasy game?

Fear not, as you have one final chance to enter ahead of Gameweek 23 – and you won’t be starting from zero points!

Late registration is still open for FanTeam‘s half-season ‘Second Chance’ game, which carries a guaranteed prize pool of £100,000, with £20,000 going to the winner and money for anyone finishing in the top 4,000.

Weekly and monthly prizes are also awarded, while there is a separate £1k prize pool just for Fantasy Football Scout users – details of that and how to get involved are available here.

CLICK HERE TO HEAD TO FANTEAM’S £100K PREMIER LEAGUE FANTASY GAME

New teams registered before the next FanTeam deadline at 6:30pm BST on Friday evening will be handed a whopping 95% of the average Gameweek 22 score, so will immediately have the edge over thousands of Fantasy managers who were involved during the opening Gameweek.

In case you needed more persuading, here’s how you can turn your late entry into an advantage.

UNLIMITED TRANSFERS

Those entering a new team in FanTeam‘s £100k FPL-style Fantasy game will get unlimited free transfers between now and the start of Gameweek 23.

While those who registered teams before the Gameweek 22 start will only have one free transfer and the precious Wildcard in their locker, managers of newly entered teams will get to tweak their sides as much as they like until the next deadline.

SQUAD UNAFFECTED BY DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 22

Second Chance began on a Gameweek where the intention was for eight teams to play twice. By starting in Gameweek 23, you can avoid the temptation to chase players with a one-week appeal and therefore pick a more straightforward 11.

READ MORE: The Second Chance team reveal from 2020/21 champion and €200k winner Josh Wooldridge

FIXTURE SWINGS

Gameweek 22 starters may have been tempted to avoid assets from Aston Villa and Manchester City, with both having a single, difficult fixture. Now, there’s a good schedule for both sides, enhancing the appeal of Philippe Coutinho (£6.5m), Ollie Watkins (£7.6m), Lucas Digne (£5.3m), Joao Cancelo (£6.7m) and Phil Foden (£8.2m).

HOW TO PLAY

Unlike the main FanTeam game, Second Chance involves building a team of 11 players rather than a squad of 15. Therefore the 100.0m budget is now down to 80.0m. There must be at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward. A maximum of three players from a single Premier League team can be selected.

One free transfer is allowed each Gameweek, with every additional transfer costing minus four points. Transfers can be rolled over multiple Gameweeks, too.

FanTeam managers have one Wildcard to use, allowing unlimited free transfers during its week of activation.

Additionally, a captain and vice-captain has to be nominated every week; the player handed the armband will score double points.

All sound very familiar? That’s because FanTeam and FPL are largely the same – although there are a handful of differences to watch out for.

KEY RULES AND SCORING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL

  • Player prices can rise and fall based on form and in-game transfer movement but, unlike in FPL, a player’s ‘sell price’ is the same as their ‘purchase price’.
  • Other than the Wildcard, there aren’t any chips in FanTeam.
  • There is no limit to how many free transfers you can save up, unlike FPL allowing no more than two.
  • The ‘Safety Net’ feature makes up for the lack of substitutes. If your player doesn’t start a match, he’ll automatically be replaced by the next-priced (descending) starter in that team’s position who did. For example, if midfielder Mohamed Salah was rested, he would be switched for a cheaper Liverpool midfielder who played, like Sadio Mane.
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points (+0.3/-0.3) if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.
  • Shots on target that don’t end up as goals are rewarded (+0.4 for midfielders and forwards, +0.6 for defenders)

Last night was confirmation for me that this just isn't my season. Going Bruno-less at the start and getting heavily punished for it was the start. Then holding and captaining Kane for so long for many of his blanks where Salah hauled. Then finally replacing Kane with Ronaldo this week after Rangnick's press conference and replacing Toney for King as part of a -8 hit after holding Toney so long too for his blanks. Only to see Kane dish out an 11 pointer and Toney a 9 pointer along with a captain CR7 and King blank. Circa 50 points lost on rivals who captained Bruno, similar to a 40 point swing I was on the wrong end of at the start of the season when he hauled. FPL really knows how to kick you in the guts when you're down doesn't it. Time to step away for a bit I think and detach myself after a totally disastrous GW like this one, if only to protect my mental health. I am sure others are in a similar boat to me so I thought I would share this to show that you're not alone and it is nothing to be ashamed of if you have a bad week.

All careful planning has gone out the window this season really.

I brought in Emerson last week knowing that Spurs were likely to double and even kept him in the lineup because the Arsenal game had not been called off yet.

1 point disaster. Keeping Kane was also predicated on him having doubles and he just hasn't had them. I'm still gonna keep trying to plan ahead by buying players with lots of DGWs in the hope it evens out but there's huge variance on weeks like this that can undo a lot of progress.

Just keep picking good players and being patient. Still 15 weeks to go.

Are you planning on starting Emerson aganist Chelsea?

I have got him and was going to start him other Coufal although I am unsure if he will get game time after last night.

Nope. My defense is TAA, Cancelo, Alonso.

I will probably do Alonso > Digne if Villa have a DGW.

I take these twists of fate hard too sometimes, difficult to take even though we all know that there is a huge portion of luck involved. My advice is to do nothing with your team if you're not sure, it feels much worse to do something and then it turns you would've scored more points if you hadn't than vice versa. After having a few really frustrating GWs myself, I've decided to treat FTs as gold dust, and also wait til deadlines ignoring any price changes. But I can totally relate to the intense frustration!

Sorry about your poor luck mate. Appreciate the intent behind the post too as I know the despondent feeling a poor FPL run can bring on. It’s just a game sure but many try so hard and spend hours on this so want to do well. Importance also heightened due to the rubbish state of the world right now.

Bad luck happens but as long as we learn the fpl lessons along the way then improvements should be seen.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Your decisions were sound enough; Kane with only 1 game to Ronaldo who (at that point) probably had 2, Toney to a (at that point) DGW King are reasonable. Getting and/or (C)ing Bruno wasn't the maddest idea, but it was also not slam dunk obvious given his form and recent benching; kudos to those that took the gamble and got paid out so handsomely, but there's no way it was an obvious call (or a lot more people would have done it).

One of the problems with all the cancellations, rumoured cancellations is that it's forcing us all to make decisions much later and much more quickly than we'd probably like to. Information is even less perfect than normal - so you have to expect more variance than normal. Keep making sound decisions and if they don't pay off, it's not really your fault.

Hey dude. I know it doesn't help to see so many big scores being posted, so I'm just here to say i got 38 (-4) this week.

I doubled my OR from 75k to 145k, took a -4 to bring in Dennis and Trossard (instead of Bruno, who i discussed at length with friends), and the gap to my ML rival jumped from about 15 to 55 because he did get Bruno.

I even left Cancelo on the bench over Keane and Reguilon, which felt like madness immediately.

There are a few of us in the same position this week, so don't be down on yourself. I decided not to follow any of Tuesday and Wednesday night and am now back to refocus on the future. That's all we can (attempt to) control.

Just putting that out there so you'll feel a little bit better. 🙂

I sold Kane for King because I was 99% sure NLD is gonna be postponed and there was a slim possibility Leicester game could be called off too. I knew that match at Turf Moor isn't guaranteed to go ahead at all but Burnley had several players coming back according to the schedule. I did a research and there should be enough days inbetween for comebacks if everything went as planned. But it didn't. I gambled and got burned. Before this second transfer I chose Trossard as my Son replacement, not Mac Allister who is in better form, or a popular Maddison who I fancied before their DGW was off. I had enough cash for de Bruyne, Fernandes and I was able to get one of them without taking a hit - I just listened to my gut feeling that King and Trossard will do well and are worth buying. They had nice chances to score as well so it feels even worse because they didn't. I keep telling myself that you win some, you lose some. Last week I bought Bowen (c) and Coufal and I was flying. This week was a reality check. A lot depends on the luck and even though I was leaning towards Bruno at some point, given his form and what I've seen from Rangnick's United so far, I wasn't fully convinced. Nevertheless, I don't watch Watford or Brighton games, so why exactly did I pick them? I fancied differentials, rolled a dice on two cheap players who could potentially hit double digit score and that's it. Time to move on and play the odds of next gameweek. We have zero control over any player's perfomance so don't beat yourself up for too long. Just try again.

Agree with Arteta, it was the perfect storm of What, ifs, & maybe’s for the managers who still had Salah and wanted somebody to transfer out to with Son injured there was only Fernandez in that price bracket apart from KDB but he only had a single G/W, plus the fact that Randnick said that Ronny should be ok to play & possible chance of D/G week for 23 and managers probably wanted to roll their transfer. So many variables, so don’t beat yourself up Drum, I would have don the same a few weeks ago but the way this season has gone it’s not worth it, also, swings and roundabouts Drum so don’t give up as it could be your week in 23 🙂

I symphathise, but you need to ask yourself is it worth even playing FPL if this is what it does to you? ive been playing for ten years, had some really good seasons, some ones I would consider bad but to allow it to impinge on your life in this way is not healthy and you should look at the pros and cons of playing it.

Ordinarily I don't mind a Friday deadline as I quite like to have things squared away on Friday afternoon so I don't have to think about it on Saturday morning. They're a bit of a pain while there are still postponements possible - for example this week any plans I might make hinge on knowing whether Arsenal v Burnley goes ahead on Sunday so Saturday deadline would make this a bit easier!

    A) Save FT if not doubles announced
    B) Bernardo --> KDB (maybe captain him)
    C) Bernardo --> Raph
    D) James --> Digne (Bench Alonso)

    DDG Foster
    Taa Cancelo Laporte ROBBO A/NOURI
Salah D. Luiz RAPH COUT BOWEN
    Broja ANTONIO/ASM(?) KANE

Guys, imo one of the main question imo the incoming fixtures:

    A) Robo
    B) Jota

Starting to think that Jota has a pretty low ceiling, especially when both Firmino and Mane will be available, while in case of Robo CS and assist could be seen more or less regularly.

I think I’ll sell Reece James this week since no other fires to put out. I’m sure Digne would be a popular pick on here and I am considering it however I wonder whether a wolves defender might be a better choice? Wolves are looking solid defensively but their fixtures aren’t great. If I go with a 4.4 defender (I.e Ait Nouri) I’ll be able to buy Salah back without selling KDB or Kane.

    Any suggestions?

        Current team is

        TAA, Cancelo, Reguilon, Livra, James,
KDB, Jota, Bowen, Gallagher, D Luiz
        Kane, Antonio, Dennis

James to 4.4 defender this week would allow Jota and Antonio to Salah and Broja next week for a -4

Originally the plan was to sell Kane but he could have had 3 or 4 last night so now reluctant to sell

At 80 mins in united game I was on 109 with De Gea haul and Bruno (c) paradise. Sitting about 40k.

It all went wrong (small violin) with Toney ruining the party then Bruno missing a sitter. 97 all out.

Which means team is at the peak of the good cycle and crushing weeks are to come when not owning Kane and Ronaldo is punished.

Rough: Captained de Gea, who was twice on for a big score only to then concede a late goal.
      Benched Raphina's six points.

Smooth: But my captain did outscore the popular choice of Ronaldo.
And I did get a small green arrow, which put me back in the top 100k.

      77 pts, FH.

Craziest FH ever, made 53 transfers as I tried to come up with the best 11. Claudio Ranieri ain't got nothing on me!

So anyway, when the matches started, and I saw Bruno go crazy, my first thought was "dammit, should have gone with Bruno". Then later on I logged in to see my points, and what do you know! I had picked Bruno! LOOOL! Had no idea!

Smooth: Bruno, Robertson, TAA, Bowen, DDG (I guess?)
Ruff: Ronaldo "the GOAT" (C), DCL, Mount, Rudiger, King, Jota

Pretty wild GW. Ranked 10k overall, I'm happy!

-4 for captain Ronaldo (2 points)
      VC Bruno (23 points)
      1st sub Gallagher (9 points)

Took Ronaldo in for Lacazette last minute for a -4 due to Ragnick comments and the NLD likely to be called off.

If I'd done nothing I would've captained Bruno and played Gallagher for 34 more points!

It was all rough for me unfortunately.

Went into the week with 7 double gameweek players, ended with just 3 playing twice, United, Ronaldo (c), De Gea and Dalot (both at one point on bonus for the clean sheet).
Cancelo and Maddison on the bench, with Lucas, Reg, and King losing their second games, and blanking in the starting 11.
      Ended on 47.

Smooth: While ranked on OR 3,8 i used the FT to bring in Bruno and captained him because this was the easiest route to get Salah back soon. 97 Points this week and a nice green arrow....
      oh wait.

Rough: Team got hacked. OR-Rank now 9m. Season over.
Moral of the story: Use a strong password and do not use the same password on different sites.

For those who interested, this was the answer from fpl-support: "We're sorry to hear you've lost access to your account. Unfortunately, it is not going to be possible to return any transfer points that may have been spent, but we can look to reconnect your old team to your email address so that you do not lose your history from previous seasons." + some further details.

      All smooth here.
Bruno (c), Ramsey coming off the bench for 12 points and others chipping in to give 106 points with no hit. All with Salah still on the bench.
Smashed into 10k for first time and even inside of 3k. Through in the cup, extended mini league lead and into top 50 of the Netherlands. Hard to think of a better game week I have ever had.

      Rough:

      - Couldn't do Son > Bruno(c) as I already had 3 United players - - very popular move paid off for others
      - Didn't think it would be worth a hit to sell Telles to make it happen (It really was!)
      - Saved the transfer instead of selling Son for Maddison (8pts) - very popular move paid off for others
      - Rumblings of Spurs-Leicester being called off didn't materialise into a cancellation which would have hurt Maddison buyers
      - It also would have brought Dalot (3) and Cancelo's (11) off my bench for Moura & Reguilon, who ultimately got 3 points between them
      - United lost their clean sheet in the 86th minute-ish, which was a shame considering I had Telles and DDG in my XI
      - It was also a shame because I'd captained DDG
      - Watford game postponed meant only a SGW for King

      On the positive side:
      - I captained DDG (8) over King (2)
      - Got a small green arrow from 1,666,072 to 1,649,680 (actually more of a negative - want to be climbing fast at this time!)

Smooth - Son to Bruno as part of a -4.

Rough - Gelhardt to Dennis (c) was the other part, because Dennis was in better short term form, better long term form, with better stats and better fixtures. Even if the Burnley game was to be called off, he was playing the second-worst defence in the league.

A great example of how bittersweet FPL can be.

It’s been one of those game weeks with big variance which sucks if you’re on the downward side and great if on the plus.

What I would say is you can’t take 1 GW. I’ve been in a cycle of 250k-> 70-80k every 2-3 weeks for the last 3 months. With great weeks (97 this week) regularly following awful weeks of 35 with the same team.

With points so tight it only takes 1 extra good week or mitigating a poor weeks damage to shoot up the rankings.
