Pro Pundits

The players I am considering for my FPL Gameweek 29 Wildcard

Pro Pundits 29

Another Gameweek rolls by and we are now entering the final straight of the 2021/22 Premier League season. With more Double Gameweeks to come, as well as different strategies in play, it’s an exciting end to a turbulent campaign. I’m hoping that next year we see a bit more normality restored, but you never know what might be around the corner!

Anyway, things outside of our control aside, I have activated my second Wildcard of the season and am currently obsessively checking player and team data in the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area to try and uncover the gems that will see me push for that top 1k finish.

But, try as I might, I’m finding it hard to build a team that veers away from the “template”. With only two teams (Arsenal and Spurs) that double in Gameweek 29 and then have a match in Blank Gameweek 30, their players are firmly on my radar. Combine that with the three Liverpool assets we all covet, and that’s effectively 8-9 of my core 11 players sorted. Boring.

As I did with my Free Hit team last week, I’ll go through my current draft, position-by-position, with some reasoning behind my picks. Hopefully, some of you will find it useful, or at least entertaining, as we approach the next deadline.

Goalkeeper and Defence

FPL Gameweek 10 round-up: Saturday review, injury news and the things we learned 19

An easy choice for me in goal, as I continue to keep faith with Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m), who I paid just £4.5m for back at the start of the season. I’ve decided to pair him with Martin Dubravka (£4.4m), as I’ve been impressed with Newcastle’s defensive numbers under Eddie Howe. The fixtures have been kind but over the last four Gameweeks, only Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have a better rate of expected goals conceded (xG) than Newcastle. A big chance conceded every 90 mins is also on par with Manchester City over the course of the season.

Jordan Pickford (£4.8m) does look like an interesting option for those willing to back the Toffees to get out of the mess they are currently in, mostly because of the sheer number of games they have to be rescheduled. While the defensive statistics have Everton down in 17th, conceding a big chance every 25.7 minutes (only Leeds and Norwich are worse), Pickford is making a save every 19.3 minutes, an average bettered by just two goalkeepers. If Everton can start to improve at the rear, Pickford looks set for a strong end to the season. However, given what I saw of them against Tottenham Hotspur in their last match, I don’t hold out much hope of this happening.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) is going nowhere for obvious reasons, and I’m pairing him with Andrew Robertson (£7.2m). While Diogo Jota (£8.3m) was an obvious choice a few months ago, the arrival of Luis Diaz (£8.0m) and the imminent return of Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) means that outside of Mohamed Salah (£13.2m), there’s just too much risk of rotation. Robertson is a great pick, with four assists in the last six Gameweeks. He is also the third-highest point scorer during this period, narrowly missing out to teammate Virgil van Dijk (£6.7m) and the in-form Harry Kane (£12.3m).

The best Spurs players for FPL Double Gameweek 29 and beyond 3

With Matt Doherty (£4.7m) in my side, I am very much aware that I am being suckered into the hype that surrounds the Irishman. With only a handful of starts all season, and a series of below-par performances for Spurs in unfamiliar positions, it looked like Doherty would be one of the first names on Antonio Conte’s chopping block. However, with two assists against Everton (along with four chances created) to add to the goal and assist versus Leeds the week before, it looks like Doherty is the first choice in the Spurs backline. While I’m aware things can change very quickly, the likes of Eric Dier (£4.6m) and Ben Davies (£4.4m) don’t exactly fill me with much excitement. If I can get at least a few games out of Doherty, I know that watching him rampage up and down the right flank will bring back memories of old from his Wolves days. I simply cannot resist.

On the bench, I’ve currently got Antonio Rudiger (£6.1m) in place for Chelsea’s incredible fixture run from Gameweek 30. While I would like to hand this spot to Reece James (£6.2m), his injury has scuppered my plans somewhat. My final spot sits with Luke Thomas (£4.3m) as Leicester have been better defensively of late: their minutes per xG conceded has improved from a season average of 58.2 mins to 80.0 over their last four matches. James Justin (£4.9m) is a threat to Thomas but having just returned from a setback to a long injury, it’s clear that his minutes will be managed, and given his versatility, there is no guarantee he usurps Thomas, who has started the last 13 games. With a good-looking fixture in Gameweek 30 and plenty of doubles to be re-arranged, I’m hopeful that Thomas keeps his place, and think he has a better chance than Daniel Amartey (£3.9m) of staying in the team when Leicester’s injured players return.

I need your help, friends, please:

    Lloris
    TAA, Robertson, Cancelo, Rüdiger
    Salah, Foden, Coutinho, Saka, Raphinha
    Broja

    Foster, Watkins, Jimi, Cash

What to do here? WC/Free Hit (one available)? Feel like I cannot go without Kane, but it would take at least a -8 to get him in, and though a WC is a possibility I feel like I wouldn't change that much in my team.

Yeah, that's the thing! Foden to Kulu sounds great, but I don't see any way in which I could bring Kane in without WCing the team...

    ALLSVENSKAN starts 2nd April 2022

I’m sure Meltens will be producing Allsvenskan content soon but just an early heads-up for mini-leagues, The Koh Samui Classic and The Koh Samui H2H.

We had 43 managers last season and it was hugely competitive and a great help if you are new to the Allsvenskan game as well. The main man to watch is Eytexi FC, James won both Koh Samui leagues last season and finished with an overall rank of OR 42, closely followed by FFS’s Geoff (OR 87). The top eight in the Koh Samui Classic League all finished within the top 1K.

If you were in last season the Classic league has renewed but I had to create a new code for the H2H league, the two codes are:

    Classic League code – lwvcqz

    H2H League code - eh0pgj

Everyone is welcome and it’s great game that runs April through to November. There are already DGWs scheduled for GWs 5 and 6 and there is a brand new Chip that I’m excited about. They have dropped the ‘Three Forwards all Captain’ and replaced it with ‘Loan Rangers’. With this Chip, for one week, you can have a whole squad of players from one team. 15 x Malmo in a DGW anyone?

    Cheers and good luck.

Cheers mate, always great chat around Allsvenskan and I've been looking forward to it starting again.

And to kick us off, here's my first draft that I'm actually 95% happy with! No doubt once Petter and others post updated information and their thoughts this will change but feeling good - so far!

        First Draft 11th March

        T. Ronning

        O. Stanisic, T. Bjorkstrom, P. Johansson

        G. Ludwigson, M. Eriksson, V. Birmancevic (V), J. Nilsson, A. Romer

        C. Kouakou, A. Selmani (C)

        Subs: P. Vaitsiakhovich – M. Moro, R. Lindkvist, I. Kricak

To clarify the new Chip, from the 'Scout' page on the official website, note the last sentence:

To warm up the everyday lukewarmness in Allsvenskan Fantasy, we have in recent years had three chips that can be played during a round. "Park the bus" has given the slopes double points, "Two captains" has given two players double points in one round, while "Forward!" has boosted the attackers' points by double. Now "Forward!" Is smoking.

And replaced with " Loan Rangers " (" Loan Rangers " in the English version of the game). It will give you opportunities in Allsvenskan Fantasy that you previously could only dream of.

Usually you are limited to having a maximum of three players from one and the same team - when you play the loan team, that restriction disappears and you can, for example, bring in a whole squad of players from your favorite team! Or select five players from one team, five players from another and another five from a third.

However, the team budget you still have will set limits on how much you can spend.

In addition, the captain's role is eliminated when you play Lånelaget - no player in your team will receive double points due to being the captain.

I will need to do a lot of research, that's for sure! But a lot of those names look familiar and I have fond memories from the likes of Birmancevic and Ludwigson last season.

If anyone knows of any new or existing English language Allsvenskan web resources please do share! I suppose there is always google translate, at least until my Swedish improves 🙂

Start here, rather than lots of pre-season friendlies, the Swedish clubs play in the Swedish Cup from late February up until the start of the season. It at least tells you who is getting gametime, who is scoring, who is picking up yellows etc. I found it quite useful.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021%E2%80%9322_Svenska_Cupen

I also find this site useful to check before making transfers, it tells you who is injured or suspended.

Hi mate, cheers for the little ego boost. Hoping to go one step further this year. I have launched a Twitter page this week in order to produce both Allsvenskan and Eliteserien content (amongst others), and am looking to get an article or two up re. Allsvenskan on here in the coming weeks.

So far I have a couple first-drafts, and threads covering:
      4.0m defenders,
      4.5m midfielders,
      Essential coverage.

      Coming soon will be:
      8.5m goalkeeper duos,
      4.5m strikers,
      And plenty more drafts!

Hopefully this can be of some help to you and the community.

All feedback and support is massively appreciated!

3 goals in 4 pre-season games for Edvardsen so far, no attacking returns for Eriksson.

Not owning Eriksson hurt me a lot at times last season, but never felt his output was sustainable. Of course, a bonus point magnet, but I think players like Birmancevic, Berg, Sana & Ludwigson provide better value in the midfield. Only 1 goal and 1 assist in the final 10 games of last season for Eriksson, despite playing 90 minutes in every single one.

New chip sounds interesting but I think the Attack! chip really suited this game where strikers don't tend to be as valuable.

Ondrejka the one I was hoping would be low ownership; wanted to own him last season, just waiting until he's getting decent minutes like Wålemark. Berg last season's bandwagon I avoided but will probably end up paying the premium at some point this time, a la Bruno Fernandes. Hakšabanovic could shake things up irl and in fantasy.

Early days but feels like the team structure picks itself, especially compared to Eliteserien this year.

      Linner
P Johansson, J Larsson, Paulsen, Wendt
      Sana, Rogic, Ondrejka, Ludwigson
      Kouakou, Edvardsen

Friedrich; Da Graca, Moro, Girmai Netabay

Yep, I think the new Chip will turn out to be an extended FH (maybe four players from three teams in a DGW) but with no captain.

I'm not averse to starting the season with five at the back for the first few weeks given the fixtures, set up just now with a 5-2-3 and may well let that run. Easy enough to change after a few GWs in though I do like the value in defence.

    Ramsdale - Bachmann

    Ramsdale
    Taa - Robbo - Cancelo
    Salah - Son - Coutinho - Raphina - JWP
    Broja - Maupay

DDG - Ait Nouri - Weghourst - James

    1. Foden/Jimenez-> Kulu/Kane.
    2. Cancelo/Foden-> Robbo/Son.

    Ramsdale.
    TAA, Tierney, Saiss, Doherty, Cancelo.
    Salah, Raphinha, Foden, Ramsey.
    Lacazette.
    Bachmann, Bowen, King, Jimenez.
    0ft, 3.7m ITB.
WC in 32 or so, 1 FH left

How essential is Kane this week? In order to finance a move I would have to take a -8 and get rid of cancelo (flagged as ill) and mahrez. Does that seem a bit nuts?
I would likely bring in B.White/M.Doherty for Cancelo and Kulusevski for Mahrez.

    Current squad:
    2,4itb 1ft noFH 1WC BB

    Ramsdale Sa
    Cancelo TAA Robbo RAN Livra
    Mahrez Saka Coutinho Salah Gilmour
    Watkins Broja Dennis

    a) James to Robbo for -4
    b) Ramsey to Kulu for -4
    c) both for -8
    Need some advice. Thanks.

Those moves in isolation, I'd say go for it, 4 matches this week vs only 1.

But I'm guessing that Ramsey and James wouldn't be in your first 11, so it depends who you're dropping down to the bench for them.

i'll be dropping Ait Nouri and JWP. I do see Robbo and Kulu having a much higher pts ceiling

    Anything worth doing, have 1ft

    Sanchez
    TAA, Dier, Cancelo
Salah (c), Son, Raphinha, Foden, Ramsey
    Toney, Wood

    Sa, Coasy, RAN, Broja

Thinking Ramsey to Martinelli or just start Broja and bench Ramsey?

    I have only had 2 x double digit scores on my bench all season(16 & 10), 10 x 0's so far...
No confidence in my BB that I still need to play.
    😕

Kulusevski's ownership in the top10k is only 0,96%!

Not sure if these options are clear? Best move?

    A. Cancelo >> Robbo
    B. James >> Doherty
    C. Both -4
    D. A or B plus Ramsey >> Kulu
    E. All 3 moves for -8

    Foster
    TAA. Cancelo. James. Tierney
    Salah. Saka. Raphinha. Martinelli
    Kane. Jimenez
    (DDG, Ramsey, Edouard, Dalot)

      I like B and D.

A is more of a toss up, but I'm holding Cancelo personally.

Pull the trigger on this -8?

James, Watkins, Weghorst —> Doherty, Kane, 4.5

    Which would give me:

    Ramsdale, Dubravka
    TAA, Cancelo, Doherty, White, Livra
    Salah, Son, Saka, Raphina, Bowen
    Kane, Broja, 4.5

Still have BB, WC, 2xFH left

I like it. If you can go 4.6 then Gelhardt looks like he's getting the odd cameo.

Cheers would leave me with 0.4 itb. Only problem would be getting James in later on but guess I could maybe WC

I'm on FH 30 and then WC 31 so looking at transfers purely for this GW. Only one FT. Torn between a few options:

    A - Rudi > Robbo
    B - Rudi + Kilman > Doherty + VVD (-4)
    C - Rudi + Coutinho > Doherty + Kulu (-4)
    D - Rudi + Coutinho + Jiminez > Doherty + Gordon + Kane (-8)

Leaning towards D to get Kane as I do like the look of those fixtures for Spurs' attack.

I got 1 FH, WC and BB left.
Thoughts on taking a -8, having 6 DGW players 29, 8 BGW IN 30 and saving WC for 31-35 and FH to 33

    1 FT 2.8 ITB
    De gea Gunnarsson
    Dawson Mee Cancelo Taa Livra
    Bowen Salah Son Bernardo Brownhill
    Weghorst Jimenez King

Any defender below 5,0 worth taking a -4 to replace Kilman with to BB?
Have 3 Spurs and Liverpool, no FH in 30
