The best FPL midfielders for a Double Gameweek 37 Free Hit

Five Premier League teams will play twice in Double Gameweek 37 and we’ll be running down a position-by-position guide to the pick of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) options in each category, whether you’re using a Free Hit or even just the usual free transfers.

You can read a rundown of the stand-out goalkeepers here, with the defenders and forwards to follow later this week.

All stats from this article are from our Premium Members Area.

Wilfried Zaha

Who are the best Crystal Palace players to own in FPL ahead of Gameweek 12?

The brilliant form of Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) is coming at just the right time for Free Hitters. In fact, Zaha’s last seven away outings have seen him score six times.

It makes the trips to Aston Villa and Everton look attractive, especially considering the 29-year-old is on penalty duty. Already having his best goal-scoring season, Zaha has three matches to provide the 15 points that would also make it his finest FPL campaign.

Son Heung-min

FPL Gameweek 15 round-up: Sunday review, injury news and the things we learned

At Spurs, Son Heung-min (£11.0m) continues his phenomenal form. The goal at Anfield made it nine from his last seven appearances, averaging 11.43 points per match. Such relentless numbers could see him overtake Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) to win this season’s Golden Boot, as his 20th strike now puts him just two behind.

By hosting a side fighting relegation, Son is a fine example of why Free Hit managers shouldn’t be blinded by players with Double Gameweeks. There are always one-match players that end the week amongst the top scorers and, with this form and fixture, Son is expected to haul.

Dejan Kulusevski

Dejan Kulusevski not sent off for elbowing Marc Cucurella - Futbol on FanNation

The same logic can be applied to Dejan Kulusevski (£6.3m). Although his immediate form isn’t quite as good as the South Korean star, only Son and Harry Kane (£12.4m) amassed more points than Kulusevski between Gameweeks 26 and 35.

His January loan arrival went under the radar but he quickly established himself as a strong Fantasy option at a generous price. Nine assists already rank amongst the season’s best, topped by just Salah, Mason Mount (£7.7m) and Jarrod Bowen (£6.8m).

What could hold back the much-owned Kulusevski amongst Free Hit users is the duel problem of having too many single Gameweek players and feeling the need to justify the chip by making lots of changes.

Anthony Gordon

Three budget differentials to consider for Gameweek 35 and beyond 1

The popularity of Anthony Gordon (£4.7m) has escalated over recent weeks. A key player for Everton at a price of just £4.7m, any fears that he’d be rotated are long gone. He is vital to the Toffees’ quest for survival.

Owners will hope Gordon can add to his four goals and three assists during an enticing pair of home matches against Brentford and Crystal Palace. Not only that, the bargain price makes him an enabler – allowing managers to squeeze in more premium assets for one final push up the mini-league rankings.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool already couldn’t afford any more slip-ups in the race to catch Manchester City. Then they did so against Spurs. Luckily, they travel to a Southampton side known for their vulnerability to big defeats, having recently done so against Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa.

Mohamed Salah needs no introduction. He is the league’s top scorer, FPL’s top scorer and number one for many underlying statistics. He has a good record against the Saints too – seven goals and three assists from nine previous meetings.

Bukayo Saka

Jimenez ends goal drought as Arsenal claim convincing north London derby win 1

Perhaps currently overshadowed by the popularity of cheaper team mate Eddie Nketiah (£5.6m), there is still a lot of appeal in Bukayo Saka (£6.7m). Since Gameweek 18, only Salah has had more touches in the opposition penalty area and the 20-year-old also ranks fourth for goal attempts.

Additionally, he has an attacking return from each of his three previous meetings with Newcastle United. In the race to secure fourth place and Champions League football, expect Saka to continue being the focal point of Arsenal’s attacks.

Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne’s FPL form at home catches the eye as United collapse

Naturally, it’s tough to predict the next spin of ‘Pep Roulette’. It was the turn of Phil Foden (£7.9m) to sit on the bench against Newcastle, whilst Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) sat out the week before at Leeds United. Bernardo Silva (£7.0m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) did so on both occasions. Does this mean it’s their turn to start again?

Going for either of those options on a Free Hit is begging for heartbreak. If Pep Guardiola doesn’t give any hints in his pre-match press conference, the safest pick is De Bruyne. At such a crucial stage of the season, it’s best to keep selecting the player with four goals and five assists from his last seven league matches.

Now out of Europe, the only priority for Man City is to quickly secure the Premier League title and – although West Ham United is a tough opponent – having attacking coverage will be a priority for many managers.

Best of the rest

Another Liverpool option like Diogo Jota (£8.3m) or Luis Diaz (£8.0m) is very appealing – it just depends on who starts Saturday’s FA Cup final, three days beforehand.

The popularity of both Philippe Coutinho (£7.1m) and James Maddison (£6.9m) has dwindled of late. Coutinho watched from the bench as replacement Emiliano Buendia (£6.1m) starred against Burnley, whilst Maddison hasn’t played a single minute of Leicester City’s last two matches.

A weekend rotation also arrived for Mason Mount, although that’s likely his rare, sporadic rest over and done with. He’ll be back in Thomas Tuchel’s line-up as Chelsea aim to correct this wobble and secure third place.

Keep coming back to this 433 on FH:

    Pickford
    Cancelo Digne TAA Robbo
    Salah Son Zaha
    Richarlison Ings Watkins

    Gordon, KDH, 3.9

    Any thoughts?
Obviously if Diaz/Jota play 120 in FA Cup final I'll consider the other for Robbo...

I think he was saying that there was some issue with him in that first half/ at HT, it was dealt with then and that's it, nothing further. He'll be available for selection as normal. (Still may possibly be rested for the FA Cup final mind but we'll see)

His wages are effectively half of what Haaland will earn but his initial transfer fee was enormous. Crazy to think someone like DDG is earning close to what Haaland will get at City yet he might be frozen out next season under ETH.

Thoughts on FH this week vs FH next week?

I can get this FH for 37 6 dbls (gambling on dbl villa/everton def is a risk, but good fixtures and upside!)
    Pickford
    Digne - Cash - Robbo - Mykolenko
    Salah - Mahrez(or Foden) - Son
    Richarlison - Kane - Watkins
Tsimikas (in case robbo benched) - Kdh - Brownhill

    Vs non FH 3 dbls.
    Schmeichel
    Robbo - Taa - Cancelo - Digne - Davies
    Salah - Kdb - Mount - Kulu
    Richarlison -
    Foster - Pukki - Dennis - Elanga

Reckon this bench is too crap for a FH team? Seems quite unlikely any of the 11 won’t feature at all…

    PICKFORD
    Trent, CASH, DIGNE
    Salah, Son, ZAHA, GORDON
    Kane, RICHARLISON, WATKINS

    Steele, BROWNHILL, KELLY, Tsimikas
    Bank 0.0m

I think WHU will put up a decent fight at home, plus there’s also the Pep roulette to worry about. Fancy Spurs to get a few at home to a Burnley without any centre backs more.

        Which combo do you prefer?

        A) Trent/GORDON (above)
        B) MYKOLENKO/8.3 (Jota/Foden)
        C) MYKOLENKO/MADDISON and 1.3m spare to upgrade

As a football fan I hate the Haaland move but as an FPL fan I'm salivating. Hopefully it's not another false dawn in terms of breaking up the Salah-dependence of the last few years (as with Lukaku/Ronaldo this year). I think he'll come in at 12.0 - matching Ronaldo this year to reflect a little bit of uncertainty over how he'll fit in and adapt, but that if he hits the ground running he'll be unstoppable. Anything less would, I think, be an absolute bargain.

Only 12.0?!!!! I think everyone would have him at that price. For City's sake I hope that's the killer player they need for the Champions League but I think the Premier League will be all over before it's started.

Think Ronaldo started at 12.5, so expect and hope Haaland to be the same or more expensive.

You'd also hope players like Salah and TAA also get a price hike so they're not just a lock in our teams from the first minute. I've owned TAA for the whole season and it's meant nothing whenever he gets a return.

If he becomes City's talisman, hoovering up a huge chunk of their goal involvements, he'll be an FPL titan.

There's always a chance the goals are City are still relatively spread out, compared to a team like Liverpool, so he may not quite reach Salah level. City won 5-0 the other day with 8 different players involved...

Should be 7.5 because he will be injured most of the season. Look at his injury record in Dortmund. And that is Bundesliga... Imagine how that body will get a shock in PL. He is too big and he has the muscle tissue as a sprinter. That combination wont bode well in my opinion. Just a matter of how much he will be injured, not if.

It seems like Watford tend to like to dump team news on their website more often than not rather than in press conferences

People who thinks that Mitrovic and Haaland will be essential are amateurs. Mitrovic played before in EPL and he was terrible every time, and Haaland coming from farmer league and he wont score more than 10 goals next season just like Kakaku

I’m not sure about that mate. I think Haaland’s a very good player. Mitrovic has definitely struggled before but I understand people wanting to give him another chance after the season hems had.

Fair point but they're not essential.

You're sticking to your guns on this "Farmer League" aren't you!

Mitrovic always does well when playing for a good team, but he struggled when Fulham struggled last year. Will be interesting to see how he does next season if Fulham struggle again.

If you also consider Champions League a farmers league, then sure, you should just keep on believing in what you do and continue to suck in this game.

For most, fitting in 3 premium attackers on a FH37 is easily done while having a strong overall team.

Who are the 3 premiums you're opting for out of Kane, Son, KDB and Salah?

Kane is the popular one to leave out it seems.

I’ve got Salah and Son - torn between Kane, Mane and KDB for the final one. Probably Kane most likely though

It doesn’t feel right having Zaha though so may see if I can get him up to Jota/Diaz while also having those 3 premiums

Son, KDB and Salah. But I can't say I'm not considering one of Jota or Diaz over Salah

Don’t forget about when Werner was set to tear up the premier league and had about 40% ownership at the start of last season

True, but it's easier to downgrade 12.5m(ish) player than buy him when the price starts rocketing after few good game weeks.

That was frightening going against it. Had him in a lot of drafts but despite seeing the ownership figure rise and rise I went away from him and it ended up working out. I think a benefit to this move compared to Werner or Havertz (ignoring the obvious differences in the team styles, players and managers) is how early City have it completed. I've seen a few people saying Grealish will just be a flop and move on down the line, I'm not convinced. Most players haven't gotten going fully until their 2nd full season, and people forget how big a step-up this was for Grealish, as well as it being completed late in the window, and he hasn't been playing with a recognised CF which is something I think he needs. I think this move will benefit him.

Will be hard to avoid Haaland. Can't say I won't consider going with KDB instead though. You look at the chances he created just on Sunday that were wasted, his own goalscoring efforts will likely suffer a bit but his assist potential should skyrocket with a finisher as good as Haaland there.

and Werner is better player than Haaland also and he is more suited to Pep style than Haaland will ever be.

I am going for KDB for Son as the latter is on good form and has 2 decent fixtures for a team where results still matter.

        Completely incorrect

        Transfer fee is £51 million

Wages will be similar but not exceeding KDB who is on 400k a week

still a bargain especially since ronaldo is on 510k a week and Maguire transfer fee was around the £80 mil mark
