Jamie Pigott crowned 2021/22 FPL champion

Jamie Pigott has been crowned the 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion after a dramatic Gameweek 38.

FPL has yet to update after this afternoon’s matches but using LiveFPL’s live league standings tool, we know that Jamie has finished comfortably clear of second-place Suvansh Singh.

Attacking returns from difference-makers Joel Matip, Reece James and Sadio Mane help offset Suvansh’s success stories of Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.

Suvansh also took a -4 to sell Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho, who unexpectedly delivered attacking returns at the Etihad, but they were part of the move to fund Kane.

The runner-up can at least content himself with the knowledge that he has won the Fantasy Football Scout Members league (amongst many others), finishing ahead of world number five Damien Ruigrok:

Brett Taylor, who ended up with a rank of 3rd, won our Fantasy Football Scout league by a handsome margin, finishing two points short of Suvansh overall:

Congratulations to all the winners and the FPL managers who pushed them close; stay tuned for RedLightning’s next excellent round-up for a more detailed summary of these and other community leagues and cups.

My team for the next season:

    Sa
    TAA - James - Sess - Robertson/Dias/Cancelo
    Salah - Son - Kulusevski - Martinelli
    Welbeck - Toney/Mitro/Wilson

Thoughts on my draft? Jokes asides I wonder how many of the above will really end up in my team.

Will depend on fixtures of course! Though the defence may not be feasible reckon Taa 8m, cancelo 7.5 and James 6.5 or 7 next year

Wouldn't mind Wilson at West Ham as long as him and Antonio can rotate their hamstring injuries.

Would be very surprised if he left Newcastle, but we’ll definitely sign a good striker and maybe one for the future too like Ekitike. Wood is there too. Just can’t see Wilson getting more than 1500 mins next season. If he could stay fit he’d be at a top 6 team I think

Who is going to be the first choice you reckon? If it is between him and Wood then I thought Wilson is going to be the main man. Unless they plan to buy someone of course.

Just said this above, but I’d imagine we (Newcastle) will sign a 1st choice striker and maybe another one like Ekitike. If Wilson didn’t have the injury issues it would be a different story

Had I finished with OR 9500 I would probably be happier than being 1 pt away from being inside top 5k... So close, but so far away. Robbo's last goal did the damage this time. Or selling Coutinho for Mount. However tbh, losing top 10k with 1 pt two years ago was harsh, top 5k is not that big landmark.

just block out noise and stay true to your proven process. So often people's random and biased opinions can sway you from what you know is right, so less youtube and twitter fpl content basically.

I also got my highest ever points total this season, but it was only my fifth best finish.
My previous most points was 2,437 in 2013/14 when I finished 3,391st.
This season I got 2,573 but only finished 32k.
Points totals have been much higher than usual this season because of all the Double Gameweeks.

When people remark on "it's my highest score ever" the chances are it is for most. Because of double GW's and more importantly, the late postponements, it created more luck than usual. There were more entries too. I think it is time for a serious revamp in terms of transparency with prices and not giving away chips halfway through the season. It is a game I only pay for through data usage so the right to complain is limited.
          Maybe think about:
          Pricing
A revamp of points in terms of defenders, Mids and forwards.
Preparing for breaks like the world cup.
Looking at cut off times to suit worldwide audiences.
FPL towers being less concerned about clicks and more about game improvements.
FPL to ensure there are no system overloads.
Just a few things to think about.

Best score in 10 years of FPL, unfortunately didn't make the top 100k. I was able to win my ML despite a strong downward trend in the last few weeks. Before this GW I was 13 points ahead, now it's 39 in the end.
He was much luckier than me the last weeks, but in the end I was able to beat him and a -4 hit has helped me with this. I capped Son and he KDB.
      It's a funny old game.

+ the element of luck: Saka points off the bench and massive differential points for Matip's assist.

The result: a slight red arrow (75 -> 86), but two-digit OR with just four point margin over 100th place = My best FPL finish ever.

I'm going to miss Covid chaos. Last minute match cancelations, player quarantine rumours, extra FH, BGWs and DGWs.

      66k 2532 points.

Smooth, 1st finish inside top 100k. Highest overall points in a season hitting 2500 target.
Had captaincy on Mount but changed to Son last minute.

Rough, last 5 gameweek were a nightmare and dropped down from 20k. Salah>Kdb did nothing, annoying as was considering Kulu.

OR < 66k, 2533 points (highest total but not highest OR in my short FPL career)

Rough: All my starting defense/keeper blanked. World peace not declared.

        Smooth: Kulusevski 16pts and Son(c) 24pts.
Rudiger 9pt from my bench in place of Alonso who thankfully didn't cameo. Thank you Thomas Tuchel.
74pts for small green arrow to finish OR at highest point this season. after dreadful first half of the season.

Leeds stay up with points to spare 😀 Thank you Thomas Frank for using all your subs early and thus finishing with 9 men.

My team tanked in gw38. Son (c), Mane, Davies, and Saka did okay but everyone else whiffed. Took a hit for Toney as well which didn't help. 55 (-4). Oh well, these things happen.

Transferring Bowen in for Salah early just to beat the price change turned out to be a poor call. Ended up with a -12 hit just to get the right players in, but James, Maddi and Kane did alright. Listening to a late rumour of James not starting, I shifted captaincy to Son which turned out great for once.

Overall, this season was my best points tally ever in 16 years of FPL but still only managed a 300k OR. Highlights the increased demand to be on top of the game. Thanks to FFS articles and feedback, I had a few positive moves this season which proved an advantage in my ML.

Thank you all and see you next season.

Smooth: all my defenders and forwards returned including lucky sub for Rüdiger and late goals for Robertson and Ødegaard.

Rough: would’ve scored more without transfers and playing Coutinho and Digne. Lost ML by 8 points but had a really enjoyable season. Thanks everyone for your advice and support

Benched Matip (7) & Martinelli (12) for Laporte (1) and Jesus (2), with Martinelli taking a pen instead of Saka, who I had in my starting lineup. Punting on Vardy (10) and buying Son (12) worked out, even after taking the losses from my bench into account, but captaining Vardy over Son cost me a position in a ML.

I'd narrowed the gap to my main rival from 150+ to 21pts in the past 4-5 GWs, only for him to extend his lead again by 9 in the final week. Nearly an epic comeback, with Kulusevski (16) my main differential this week. But he was helped by Captaining Kane (10), who I didn't own, Maddison (13), Odegaard (8), James (7) and his purchases of Sessegnon (6) and Wilson (13). Oh and finally playing the BB!

76pts for me, in the end, this week, bumping me up by 13k. Not the most impressive season, but pretty happy to have cut my rank from 3m after GW17 to 488k at the finishing line. (After 16 more hits and all my chips (including a disasterous TC Dennis))

Smooth : keep zaha & trade rudi for reece turns out profitable
Rough : diaz, toney & mount blank, mane missed chances & son brace nullify my other good selections

Yep it was either him or Kulu in this week.

One transfer off completely crushing it as I also had Rudiger and Andersen and any captain would have done. Would have got close to team of the week 😉

If the dimwits at FIFA hadn’t given the World Cup to a country with a temperature of about a million degrees in the summer, we’d have the World Cup to look forward to now, instead of a summer with zero football!

-44pts. Most of the hits I took were in the final third of the season to fix a botched 2nd wildcard while also setting up for the dgws.

That's mad, you'd have had to average almost 75 points in all 38 weeks to win fpl this year.

Certainly high scoring but hard to get a good rank too

One stat is the points gap between the winner and a 10k ranked team (218) was the same as between a 10k and a 300k ranked team (223). He smashed it!

Also Maddison was terrible at the start of the season (as well as Barnes who was a popular pick on here)... and then he gets 46 points in the last 3 GWs!

Finished 2nd and 3rd in two cash leagues. The 3rd place was a chunky one so happy with that. 2nd is a work league against a long term rival as the league has been going 8 years. Started the day 2 points behind. I finished 70 with -4 and he finished 66 so the gap stayed 2 points.

          Him: Son(c) Kane Martinelli Saka
          Me: KDB(c) Maddison Kulu Gabriel

Thanks for the advice on here this season. Will be back when the games reopens!
