Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will go ahead this weekend – but there’ll only be seven Premier League matches taking place.

As feared, two further fixturesManchester United v Leeds United and Chelsea v Liverpool have been postponed because of policing resources needed in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place next Monday.

Brighton and Hove Albion v Crystal Palace also remains off, despite the train strike that precipitated the postponement now being cancelled.

The revised Gameweek 8 schedule now looks like this (UK dates/times are listed):

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FPL MANAGERS? INITIAL REACTION

After an opening month in which there was plenty of ‘template’ tedium and thinly veiled humble brags from FPL managers burning transfers because their squads were apparently unimprovable, we’ve now got some welcome chaos.

It’s not quite the full-on bedlam many of us had feared/hoped for, however, as there had been initial suggestions that all three London-based fixtures would be called off. That scenario would have left many of us well short of a full starting XI and prompted a lot more discussion about Wildcards and Free Hits.

As it turns out, most of us may be able to get to an 11-strong line-up without much fuss – although the lack of a fixture for Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton in particular may be the Buckaroo moment for those FPL managers hovering over the Wildcard button.

We’ll be exploring the pros and cons of a Gameweek 8 Wildcard in a follow-up piece.

Toney or Jesus out for Kane?

I’m deciding between the same, except I want Mitro in.

I’m leaning towards dropping Jesus, but really just because I have the Arsenal double with Martinelli. Such a close call individually, but I really don’t want double Arsenal for their run of games.

    Hi,
I'm a PL newbie. Have six guys out this week and a bunch of underperformers so going to WC and would love advice.

    Current starters

    Sanchez
    Koulibaly James Cucurella Zinchenko
    De Bruyne Lingard Christie
    Kane Halland Jesus

Bench: Pickford Ven de Beek Hjeld Milivojevic.

Do I keep two of the Chelsea defenders and bench them for this week since fixtures seem better in GW 9 and on? Any other advice? I kind of like the Kane Haaland combo

I would keep only James from those Chelsea defenders.
Forward line of Haaland, Kane and Mitro is quite good.
Otherwise, well you really need that WC. Personally, I would sell all except Haaland, Kane, James from your team.

In my team Sanchez, TAA, James, Salah, Diaz and Gross aren’t playing this week and Archer doesn’t get minutes.

Should I do TAA, Salah and Archer > Trippier, KDB and Mitrovic (-4)

    My team would then be
    Ward,
    Trippier Cancelo Saliba Williams
    Martinelli KDB Andreas
    Haaland Jesus Mitrovic

    Or should I wildcard?

hi all team below w 2 ft (no wc left):

    raya
    trent* - perisic - trippier - neco
    salah* - martinelli - andreas
    haaland - jesus - toney

    sanchez* - harrison* - james* - rodrigo*

have penciled in trent + salah -> cancelo + son (2 ft)

are either jesus -> mitro or harrison -> saint max (and play ahead of neco) worth a -4? was thinking of doing both moves for -8 for the long term esp with no wc left

    Pope
    Trippier Saliba Neco Patterson (James)
    Martinelli Andreas (Gross Salah Sterling)
    Haaland Toney Mitro

0 FT. 3.1 in the bank

    Is it worth just

    A) playing with 10 men with no hit?

    Alternatively, could

    B) swap Gross out for a -4 for Bowen/Kulu/Foden/8.1 mid and below

    Or

    C) Gross out for Gordon for -4 which would free up cash for Patterson to Cancelo next week.

    1. Valar(Keith)
      • 16 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

Tbh.. now that i think about it.. i think i prefer Gordon at 5.5 over any of the 8 mids since it gives me the cash to get TAA/Cancelo in next week. He is a fantastic player and is the so called "talisman" of everton and is definitely underpriced.

Bowen looks like the next best punt but it could be a case of wishful thinking. Foden looked fantastic in the UCL and looks a lot more nailed this season.. but it's pep roulette. Both these options leave me with a compromised defense too with a Fofana over TAA/Cancelo compromise next week.

Rashford and Zaha are my other favorites .. but they don't play this week. They would let me get Perisic in next week so they are in that perfect price bracket for me to shore up mid and defense .

      In short... Aaaaargh

      1. Andy_Social

Gordon's worth a punt in GWs 8-9. If he flops and you can upgrade him to the likes of Zaha, it is worth the gamble.

        1. Valar(Keith)
          • 16 Years
          3 years, 2 months ago

Yup. That's my thinking.. if he looks good over the next 2 gws i can upgrade my defense with a taa/Cancelo. If he looks poor i can get Zaha/rash in for him and sidegrade my defense with a Laporte/Perisic in for Saliba or Fofana in for Patterson.

Either way going with Gordon(or ASM if fit) would be the best options for my team. I'm not too hot on the likes of Bowen/madds/saka/foden/Kulu anyway. Cheers

    Ward Sanchez*
    Cancelo Neco TAA* Dunk* Cucu*
    Foden Marti MGW Salah* Gross*
    Haaland Jesus Archer*

    2 FTs, 0.9m in bank

Have 8 so could get 11 with a -4 although a few weak links.

If you were on WC would you still Play Conte Roulette and include Perisic and rotate with likes of Neco/Andreas

Could go super dullard with Fofana but Perisic has haul potential in any game he starts

If you've got bench cover like that, then sure. But see how many minutes he plays tonight. Further down the road, if it looks like he'll regularly get short minutes in the PL, you have plenty options to replace him with.

No I can't wait to get rid of Perisic, 5.5 is too much as he's not nailed and gets taken off, for example when all of my below team were playing this week everyone said to bench him home v Leicester.

      Henderson
      TAA Cancelo James Trippier
      Salah Rashford Martinelli
      Haaland Toney Mitrovic
      Ward Perisic Andreas Colback

Critique this WC8 if you feel that way inclined 🙂

    Pope
    Cancelo Trippier Saliba
    KdB Bowen Maddison Martinelli
    Haaland Toney Mitrović

    Iversen James* Andreas Patterson
    £0

KdB/Toney or Kane/7.9m mid? (Posssible mids: Zaha* Rashford* Bernardo etc)

      • 13 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

I like it. In Bowen and Maddi, you're very much targeting future points at the expense of past form, which could pay off richly.
Presumably you drop Saliba to the bench for those 3 big games upcoming, with James stepping up. If so, I wonder if Saliba is worth retaining.

      1. Sheffield Wednesday
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

I had Saliba from when he was 4.5M and given his price increases and form it's good to have a decent 4th defender option, even if he often will be benched.

Agree with Andy, not sure why you have Saliba in there. Consider Emerson or Coufal

I'll see how it goes but I'd probably get a Palace defender, but not his week of course.

Thanks for the suggestions, downgrading Saliba to a 4.4/4.5M would allow me to get Ward back instead of Iversen.

You're putting faith in Bowen and Maddison firing when they ought to but haven't yet.
Same risk applies to Palace defence - they ought to rack up clean sheets but haven't yet.

GW10 onwards looks good though for the Palace CB dynamic duo. Coufal another option given the fixtures but again it's based more on past performance than form.

I'd just like to see a clean sheet. I've got money to upgrade a 4m defender to Andersen - when he shows something. Could be GW10,11.

Very similar to mine. Williams over Saliba and Son over KDB for me leaves me 1m ITB.

      Pope
      Cancelo Trippier Williams*
      Son* Bowen Maddison Martinelli
      Haaland Toney Mitrovic
      Ward* Andreas Patterson James

It's a good WC team. A lot to like with it.

I'd go with Kane and ASM (if fit) over KDB and Toney personally.

Also if you're in the market for a cheap defender from gw10/11 onwards, I'd strongly suggest looking at the Wolves centre backs. Their fixture run from gw11-16 isn't much different to their run for the first 6 gameweeks where they have quietly been among the top scoring defenders in the game so far

Made a mistake with an early transfer Jesus to Mitro.

    What would you do here?
    A. Use 1FT play with 10
    B. - 4 and field 11
    C. WC

    1FT 2.1ITB
    Ward
    Trippier Cancelo Williams
    Andreas Gundo Martinelli Gross* Salah*
    Haaland Mitro
    (Sanchez TAA* James*Archer)

Nothing wrong in Jesus > Mitro in isolation, but I see your concern. The question is, all things being equal, do you want to keep Salah and/or the Brighton boys going forward? Me, I'd want a new goalkeeper at least, and lose of of those mids. I'd therefore go with option B.

      1. Tonyawesome69

Yeah gambled on the Brentford Arsenal game not going ahead. If I held off, I could have had 11 without a hit this GW.

Long term, I could see myself changing Sanchez, TAA, Gundo, Gross, Salah and Archer which may make the WC the option to go for this GW.

B or C are both good options with your team. If your WC would look notably different than this current team I’d go ahead and WC. But if your WC was going to look similar with only a few adjustments then B could work quite well.

For instance: Sanchez + Gross to Pope + Bailey gives you a solid 10 this week and should put enough ITB to allow you Archer to Toney next for free (if you want Toney?). Going into GW 9 you’d have a nice 4-3-3 of:

      Pope
      TAA Cancelo James Trippier
      Salah Gundo Martinelli
      Haaland Mitro Toney

With full playing (and cheap) bench of Ward Bailey Andreas Neco.

See how he is in CL first. He hasn't looked good by any means of late and I've seen Spurs fans say part of it is opposition teams catching onto him being a poor ball carrier so they're pushing him deeper into areas where he is allowed to get on the ball but isn't effective. xGI of 3 which isn't awful but 2/3 of that came against Soton and Fulham. I'd sooner punt on Richarlison at the minute unless he looks better tonight

Richarlison being a forward rules him out IMO

    Ramsdale
    Cancelo Trippier Neco
    Salah* Martinelli Andres Reed
    Haaland Jesus Toney

    (Ward Groß* TAA* James*)
    1 FT & 0.5m

    A) Wildcard
    B) Salah & Reed ➡️ Son & 6.2m mid -4
    C) Salah & TAA/James ➡️ Son & Perisic -4

    Thoughts?

    What to do here??

    Pope (BOU)
Cancelo (wol), Trippier (BOU) Williams, (FUL)
Gundo (wol), Martineli (bre), Andreas (for), DaSilva (ARS)
Kane (LEI), Haaland (wol), Jesus (bre)

    Ward (TOT), Diaz, James, Cucurella

    1 FT, 1.9 ITB

Likely wildcarding next week, so ideally wouldn't want to save my FT.

Quite set on this WC team. Hold or sell Jesus? Feels like a risk to go without against brentford

    Pope iversen
    Cancelo james trippier neco emerson
    KDB bowen maddison martinelli andreas
    Haaland jesus mitrovic

Look beyond this upcoming GW. Not sure Jesus is worth keeping when there are other fwd alternatives

It's fine. Using your 1Ft to sell Jesus for Toney or Isak should be straightforward - or just keep him.

My preference is to try and save a FT rather than booking a transfer after a WC.

Like it a lot. Not convinced Bowen is better than some of the ~6m mids but an easy switch

    Considering wild carding.

Can I get an explanation of how the wild cards are used this year?

1 free wild card at international break. 1 when we start.

    2 in total.

Or is there a possibility for 3? Idk Im asking you all

1 to be used between the beginning and GW16
1 to be during the world cup break between GW16 and 17
1 to be used after GW17

    What would you rather?

    A) Zanka to Patterson for free to get 11 starters

    B) Salah to KDB/Son for free and play Zanka (but with very low xMins)

    Thanks

    Which move would you do?
'Both for a hit and 4.3itb'

    Ederson
    Trippier Cancelo Saliba NWilliams
    Andreas Dasilva Martinelli
    Haaland (c) Jesus Toney
    - Diaz Sterling James

    A) Dasilva ➡ Bowen (343 from next week)
    B) Diaz ➡ Son (433)
