The pre-match press conferences have started ahead of Gameweek 10 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

We’ll be covering all of the key manager quotes from these pressers over the next two days, starting with this round-up of Thursday’s injury news.

Five managers will be facing reporters this afternoon, with Erik ten Hag fulfilling his media duties after Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League tie tonight – although the ‘Gameweek 10’ part of that press conference will be embargoed until the following day.

We had been due to hear from Antonio Conte on Thursday, too, but that will no longer be the case after it was announced that Tottenham Hotspur’s fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone had passed away. It remains to be seen if Conte’s media commitments are to be rescheduled ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

The other 13 bosses look set to hold pressers on Friday, meanwhile.

KEY UPDATES

ASTON VILLA

Steven Gerrard confirms that Ludwig Augustinsson (hamstring) will be out for around three weeks, joining fellow left-back Lucas Digne (heel) on the sidelines.

Matty Cash (hamstring) is available and Calum Chambers (appendix) has a “decent chance” of being involved against Nottingham Forest but Leon Bailey (muscle) is a doubt.

Diego Carlos (Achilles) and Boubacar Kamara (knee) are long-term absentees.

“Matty Cash is back in full training and he’s available for Nottingham Forest. Calum Chambers has done half of the session today and he’ll continue to pick training up from now until Monday. He’s got a decent chance to be involved.

“Ludwig Augustinsson will be out for around three weeks – he’s got a hamstring injury on the back of the Leeds game. We’ve also got Leon Bailey, who has got a small muscle issue. He’s a doubt for the weekend but he’s not totally ruled out.

“In terms of Lucas Digne, it’s a complicated one that’s going to rumble on for a few more weeks before we can assess it. I’ll have some news on Digne in a couple of weeks, but he won’t be available for Forest.” – Steven Gerrard

LEICESTER CITY

Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi will be out for a few weeks with a minor hamstring strain.

Papy Mendy also has an issue with his knee and will struggle to be fit for this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.

“In terms of the squad, Wilfred Ndidi will probably be out for a little bit. He came back from international duty with a hamstring strain. He recovered well but he felt it at half-time in the game and he was a little sore, so he might miss a few weeks.

“Papy Mendy has an issue with his knee so may struggle for the weekend but everyone else should be fine. It was just a clash of knees in training. The doctor and medical team said this morning it’ll be highly unlikely for him to be involved at the weekend but hopefully, he’ll be back after that.” – Brendan Rodgers

SOUTHAMPTON

Ralph Hasenhuttl is hopeful of having Juan Larios and Adam Armstrong available for the trip to Manchester City after the pair picked up minor injuries, while a couple of players affected by illness should also be fine.

Tino Livramento (knee) is out until 2023 and Romeo Lavia (muscle) is still a few weeks away from a return

“The team news, as I said, we’ve had a few players that have not trained the whole week. We had some issues with Arma and Juan with small injuries but they should be available for the weekend.

“One or two players have been out with a little bit of illness but they have also been back on the pitch today so the group, so far, is together like it was.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank has ruled Pontus Jansson out of Brentford’s match against Newcastle with a hamstring injury.

Sergi Canos is fit enough to return to the squad after struggling with a hamstring issue of his own, while Ethan Pinnock is available but lacking in match sharpness.

Christian Norgaard (Achilles) and Keane Lewis-Potter (foot) remain unavailable: the former is aiming to return before November, while the latter is already back running but not yet training with the first team.

BOURNEMOUTH

Gary O’Neil says Joe Rothwell (thigh), Ben Pearson (knee) and Ryan Fredericks (unspecified) have all “trained well” ahead of the visit of Leicester City on Saturday.

Lloyd Kelly (ankle) remains sidelined, while Junior Stanislas (muscle) also looks set to miss out.

Both can easily return imo, don't think Liverpool have fixed their problems in defence, despite CS against Rangers.

I'd play the attacker. Unless anything happens to Martinelli tonight.

      I like B.
Ditching premiums for a mid price midfield of
FODEN MADDISON BOWEN ZAHA TROSSARD/MARTINELLI seems a good way to go in a wildcard.

I would've said Fofana if he wasn't injured or Guehi.

Yep it was quite surprising and disappointing because before his bad injury he was quite attacking FB.

Not sure if it was tactics from Rodgers to be bit more tight in the back but yep Castagne was 2021 Cancelo and Justin as Walker.

After the blanks would you rather have

    A). KDB and Mitrovic
    B). Foden and Kane

A would mean no premium mid slot available so difficult to get in the likes of Salah or Son if need be

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 2 months ago

How does having KDB mean it's difficult to get to Salah or Son? In either situation you'll most likely have to move out the premium if you wanted them, the main difference is that with KDB if you have money itb you can do it in one move (and he's more expensive so it ought to be easier), if you have Kane it'll have to be two moves

      1. rozzo
        • 12 Years

Sorry meant B would mean no premium mid slot

Ah apologies. Kane has nice fixtures for GW14-16 but Spurs' form is still worrying me, while City are City. But apart from GW13 itself I don't love Mitrovic's fixtures (Everton, City, ManUtd). Suppose I'd have to pick B

Be interesting to see if Guehi is fit this week. Was strapped last week and seemed to be hobbling a bit.

Very definitely an injury crisis at the back for Palace in any case with just 4 fit defenders if you include Guehi and Vieira not always very forthcoming about injuries.

Cheers for this, didn't know that (well I knew about Clyne and the mysterious Andersen issue). Another reason perhaps to hold Aaronson a slight bit longer (even though I'm not too convinced he's as attacking as he was when the season began)

Cancelo & Bailey > Castagne & Barnes for free. Leaves me with the following and 0.5 ITB for KDB > Salah next week or week after.

    Pope
    Castagne / Trippier / James
    KDB / Martinelli / Zaha / Barnes
    Kane / Mitrovic / Haaland

    Iversen / Emerson / Andreas / Williams

If Mitrovic is out then will have to rethink. Thoughts?

Didn't realise I was looking at this week in a conservative manner. Forest v Villa is an odd one, Villa should deal with them comfortably but they were very wasteful against Leeds, also an odd quirk to that game is that the televised Monday game since 21/22 hasn't seen the home team lose once (but Forest are pretty terrible)

    2 FT, 0.4m ITB & will WC GW13

    Current Squad:

    Pope
    TAA - Cancelo* - James - Trippier
    KdB* - Martinelli* - Gross
    Haaland* - Jesus* - Toney

    Ward - Bailey - Andreas - Neco

Looking to do the following moves to prepare for BGW12:

    KdB > Madders
    Martinelli > Zaha
    Jesus > Kane

Need the funds from KdB to do the others, but don't want to drop him before the Southampton game. What to do this week to avoid burning a transfer?

    Mike Keegan via CityXtra:

"Erling Haaland is earning close to £900,000 per week at Man City. The 22 year-olds basic salary is in line with the other high earners at the club, however a series of subsantial, almost-guaranteed bonuses see his weekly wage exceed the £850,000 mark."

    Thoughts on this?

As a City fan i acknowledge it is a lot - but then look at his contribution to the team!

It's just market forces. Sure, footballers should never be paid that much and it is a situation that has spiralled out of all control over decades, but also it's not his fault if someone is prepared to pay him that much.

Grealish and Stones get too much compared to what they are worth. Haaland and KdB have pretty similar salaries, but they are the absolute best players. Lose them both to Liverpool and Liv would win everything.

        His basic salary is....

I'm not criticizing it, just stating facts!

What are you claiming? Your sources are evidence for the claim that "The 22 year-olds basic salary is in line with the other high earners at the club".

The OP is also claiming that there are additional bonuses on top of the basic salary. Do you have evidence for or against this?

If it’s close to being true, it just goes to show again what an amazing job Klopp (and the recruitment team) has done making the Premier League a genuine contest the last few seasons. Praying City don’t want Bellingham too…

That's monstrous. I don't like it by any means, but like Joey says, you can't really blame the players themselves. Agents have been driving up fees and wages demands for the last 2 decades in particular. Still, certainly isn't good to look at

Cucurella, Thiago or Justin on a WC?

Weird choices, honestly. Of the three, Cucurella probably offers the most potential returns per pound.

    Kepa (Ward)
Cancelo - Trippier - Guehi (Tarkowski, Fofana)
Foden - Zaha - Maddison - Bowen (Trossard)
    Haaland - Auba - Wilson

The only thing I'm still thinking is whether or not I should downgrade Trossard and upgrade Fofana to Cucurella.

You really don't want to be benching Trossard, but this expected when you lose Salah and are flush with $

No, I don't (which is why I'm half-considering the scenario below instead), but yeah, this week is rife with benching issues. Of course, it becomes a bit less so if I think Leeds will score at Palace, but still doesn't solve the midfield issue.

bit of a benching headache but personally I don't mind that, as it seems like it's necessary to have a strong bench right now.
      Looks very strong overall.

To follow up on the team just above:

    1. Fofana + Trossard (both benched this week)
    2. Cucurella + Gross (Cucu starts, Guehi benched instead and Gross also benched)

Why on earth would you pick an injured Fofana on WC? Maybe I'm wrong but I wouldn't want to bet on him being back by GW12

Yeah, the only reason for it is if one is to assume his injury isn't serious.

    Pope (Iversen)
    Cancelo James Trippier (Neco, Emerson)
    KDB Maddison Martinelli Andreas (Colback)
    Haaland Kane Mitro

2FT, 0 ITB. How to start preparing for GW12, without shipping KDB?
    Can do KDB+Colback -> Foden/Bowen + Zaha

You have four players with blanks and one with an almost-certain return blank (Colback). If you don't want to lose KdB, I'd consider moving Martinelli and/or Cancelo instead.

Regards my last post, how will Real Madrid be able to afford Haaland when he apparently will sign for them in 2024??

At least £200m transfer fee, plus probably £1m basic salary plus bonuses each week.

Surely only PSG could afford that?

Easy save? 0.7itb. Wildcard in hand.

    Ward
    Trippier Cancelo James Targett
    KDB Martinelli Maddison
    Mitro Haaland Jesus

The Fofana dilemma has got me thinking. Given he's flagged, he won't drop in price, so seems like a fairly low risk to take, especially considering he relieves some of my benching issues. At the same time, a non-player in GW12 would be most unfortunate (even if I'll have a FT to spend). So, do I (on a WC):

    1. Stick with Fofana and bench him alongside Trossard and Tarkowski while starting Guehi in a 3-4-3?
    2. Fofana + Trossard > Cucurella + Gross and bench Gross and Guehi?
    3. Fofana + Trossard > James + Almiron and bench Almiron and Guehi?
