Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are again chiefly looking to Erling Haaland (£12.2m) for the Gameweek 11 captaincy but with Manchester City away at Liverpool this weekend, the decision over who to hand the armband to perhaps isn’t as clear-cut as it usually is.

As per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Friday’s 18:30 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is the clear winner of the captain poll, with just under 58% of total votes from users at the time of writing.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) is currently in second place, backed by a mite under 13% of our users.

No other player has garnered more than 4% of votes at this stage: Ivan Toney (£7.3m) occupies third place, followed closely by Son Heung-min (£11.7m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m).

THE MAIN CANDIDATES

ERLING HAALAND/KEVIN DE BRUYNE

Erling Haaland continued his excellent run of form, notching his 15th Premier League goal as Manchester City steamrolled Southampton 4-0 in Gameweek 10.

The Norwegian became the first player to reach 100 points in Fantasy Premier League in 2022/23, averaging just 7.3 minutes per FPL point this term.

Haaland is simply unstoppable, and having struck the inside of the post early in the first half, powered home a neat side-foot finish beyond the helpless Gavin Bazunu (£4.5m) to make it 4-0.

Nothing is certain except death, taxes and an Erling Haaland goal  – and the Norwegian’s underlying numbers mark him out as the best in the division.

The 22-year-old has produced division-leading goal threat numbers over the last six matches, placing top for shots inside the box (25), big chances (10), and shots on target (15).

The expected goal data reaffirms Haaland’s dominance over the period, placing top for expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI), with 5.85 and 7.01 respectively.

A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated

Above: Erling Haaland tops the division for shots (27), shots inside the box (25) and big chances (10) over the last six matches

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4m) registered his 10th attacking return of the Premier League season against Southampton, supplying the assists for Phil Foden’s (£8.2m) delightful wedge finish.

The Belgian created two big chances against the Saints and continues to set the gold standard for creativity in the division – with unerring consistency.

Over the last six matches, playmaker De Bruyne places top for big chances created (six), total assists (six), and expected assists (xA), with 2.30.

While Manchester City visiting Liverpool would historically rank as the toughest fixture on paper, the high-flying Citizens’ attack is the polar opposite of Liverpool’s defence with confidence at an all-time low.

Analysing at a team level, Manchester City place top over the last six matches for big chances (25) and expected goals (xG), with 14.67.

Meanwhile, the Reds have conceded three goals in consecutive Premier League matches, against Brighton and Arsenal, and placed bottom for expected goals conceded (xGC) against the Gunners in Gameweek 10, with an eye-watering 3.09.

Injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) and Joel Matip (£5.9m) further compound defensive woes for Liverpool who rank eight-worst over the last six matches for expected goals conceded (xGC), with 9.02.

If you have the balls, go for it. I wouldn't recommend because a rested Haaland vs. Liverpool is scary and i don't like having future transfers planned like this.

      Save the FT.

Zouma and Andreas can cover you for this week. With the blanks and all the uncertainty over some players, it's better to go into gw12 with 2FT

Martial didn't train so one to keep an eye on... neco might have lost his spot so another concern there, particularly with 5 arsenal / city who blank next week...

I think decisions to be made whether forced or instinctive are the first chance to climb the ladder since choosing Haaland as perma cap.
My forced decisions are more from a defensive point of view but I really believe if you take on Kane/Son it could reap rewards. It might be short term thinking though.
Too much emphasis is put on 11 playing players; let it go and think for up to GW16.
I think the advantage of a WC is limited unless you have big injury issues.
I am not overly convinced Liverpool will pay dividends and decisions can wait until GW13.
Maddi and Jesus on 4 yellows must be considered too so 2 FT's is pretty important in GW12.
Bowen to me is a very short term fix and Maddi usefulness is starting to dissipate.
So Chelsea although with 3 out of 4 away fixtures might be an answer with Mount coming into the picture.
Let me know your transfer plans and comments whether to ignore defensive issues or not.

i have 5 city and arsenal, mitro, james and maddison. i am on the back of a very disappointing red arrow which drags bag to a nearly 2m rank, I feel a bit deflated to be honest.

not sure about chelsea, rotation seems an issue.

I stupidly sold marti and not getting him back as cant bear "wasting" 0.3 on him so I will go saka gw13.

2fts essential for gw12 seems essential even thought it means i might have dasilva starting this weekend.

Don't let your choice of Martinelli cloud your judgement for0.3 mil. He is cheaper than Sakha. Maybe have them both?
Your story is a common thread. I mention Maddi rather than Chelsea as his form is returning and playing most fixtures. rotation will be happening all over.

      In the same position:
In defence, my issues are James and Neco - not sure what to do with those.
I am happy with my midfield and strikers (assuming mitro is fit).

I plan to only have 10 players in GW12 - I can't really justify selling cancelo, martinelli, foden or Haaland as I will almost certainly want them staright back and have money tied up in all of them now.

Thereofre, my plan is a little wait and see... if james and mitro are OK (fingers crossed) then I will roll and see what happens with Neco this week (i.e. will aurier start every week etc). Then next week, I will have two transfers, ideally i can use just one to fix Neco (if needs be), then have two for thirteen to swap maddi out for saka and probably bring in a third arsenal player (tbd)

But as they say... the best laid plans...

That said... I don't know what my plan is if james / mitro isn't fit. Particularly James as the options to replace him are underwhelming - dunk at brighton? kilman at wolves?

Same for a lot of us. A plan can only be in place with all info at hand. I have 8 good forwards with Mitro so I have dodged a bullet there I think. With James Neco and Digne; herein lies my problem

Agreed, my problems children in caps:

              Pope/Ward
              Cancelo, Trippier, JAMES, Guehi, NECO
              Foden, Martinelli, Maddi, Zaha, Andreas
              Haaland, Kane, MITRO
              0.4ITB

If Mitro and James are OK then Neco becomes an easer problem to solve...

Think so. If Mitro and James are out then I'll only have:

      Ward
      Trippier, Neco
      Zaha, Andreas, Rashford

+ 2 (KDB and Jesus replacements)

Which looks pretty weak. If I wildcard, I'll just stick Haaland, Cancelo and Martinelli on the bench. Not ideal as would want to go triple Arsenal and triple City on GW13 wildcard. However, pulling the trigger in GW12 could provide a massive boost with most unable to field a decent XI with injuries to key players.

I honestly chuckle at this and everyone else thinking that because Salah scored goals against a League 1 level team who were already losing and chasing the game when he came on is now all of a sudden a good FPL option again. lol. Its mind boggling how knee jerk some people are.

What were your reasons for wanting to sell Salah? Those reasons were justified and should not have changed because of one game against a crap team.

Did you think Salah was never going to score again or something? Of course not! The reality is Salah is a 12.7m expensive player who you will rarely captain if at all because of Haaland, spends most of the matches glued to the touchline and plays for a team in seriously poor premier league form.

I don't own him but obviously Salah is a hold if you still own him? Liverpool's defence a no go zone but their attack still provides points.

Would maybe sort TAA this week and the B Silva next? Taa looks like hes out for a few weeks so you might be able to avoid price drops

    Kane or Haaland?

I'm going against popular opinion and captaining Kane.

Was always my plan to captain Kane in gw8 and gw11 when I brought him in on a wildcard in gw8. Worked out nicely in gw8 and confident it will as well in gw11.

13 goals in 14 PL games for Kane against Everton and no blanks since gw1. Liverpool away is still the hardest fixture of the season for Haaland despite their defensive issues this season.

A lot of Kane and Everton historical data vs current Haaland and current Liverpool data.

But Kane is a perfectly good choice on current form.

    Good afternoon DZ.

    A. Maddison to Salah in GW 12(Saving this week).
    OR
    B. Neco to Persic in GW 11
and Solanke to Firmino in GW 12?

Solanke and Neco are the biggest weaknesses in my team atm...
(Will wait for news on Reece and Mitrovic of course).

    Thanks.

I'd save the transfer this week and reassess the options for gw12 with 2FT in hand.

Solanke can provide cover this week and has good fixtures up until the World Cup. Neco is a worry though but hopefully your team is solid enough so you don't have to play him this week

Funny how a double benching has sparked interest in Perisic. Meanwhile, I'm wondering if he has a knock or if Sess is being preferred on form now

I feel Sessegnon is being preferred in the absence of Emerson.
I feel Conte prefers the Emerson and Perisic combo.

If Son is firing again then I want in.

Would you do KDB and Zaha out for Son and Foden? I have exact money to be able to do this move.

Not a move I would do.

Zaha has great fixtures up until the World Cup so wouldn't look to sell him. Would rather have Kane over Son who has only really turned up in one PL game all season. KDB for Foden still leaves you with a blank player for gw12.

I'd stick with KDB and Zaha this week

Very much agree with this - you could consider KDB to Son as a stand alone transfer this week if you want to, but you are likely to want city again in GW13...

Southampton are down. Can't see 3 weaker squads in the league... the 2 you mentioned probably are, then maybe Fulham are similar, but Mitro makes the difference for me.

That combined with arguably the worst manager in the league - not a good recipe for survival.

I agree with you, Saints are bad and Fulham at a bad place if Mitro keeps getting injured, but why is Marco Silva the worst manager ?
I think he is the one who takes the best out of Mitro and made this Fulham side exciting and able to stay in the PL

Leicester have been awful defensively so palace should do well
Liverpool have been awful defensively so city should do well
