We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Blank Gameweek 28 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

This round of fixtures will see six teams blank due to clashes with the FA Cup quarter-finals: Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham United.

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Friday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

BLANK GAMEWEEK 28 FIXTURES

THE LIKELY LADS

The best FPL forwards for a Double Gameweek 22 Free Hit

We’ll not waste any time explaining why Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane (£11.7m) will feature, so we’ll swiftly move on to north London rivals Arsenal.

A triple-up against Crystal Palace feels almost inevitable but who takes the coveted slots is up for debate.

Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.2m) are the frontrunners at the back, but we’ve sided with the former in our ‘bus team’, given that no top-flight side has conceded more headed attempts (38) than the Eagles since the restart. There is real clean sheet potential, too: Patrick Vieira’s side have failed to register a single shot on target in three straight Premier League games.

Further forward, we can be fairly sure two of Bukayo Saka (£8.5m), Martin Odegaard (£6.9m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.6m) will make the cut. Manchester City enjoyed their best forays down Nathaniel Clyne’s (£4.5m) flank on Saturday evening, which could suit Martinelli, who has five goals in as many Premier League games. Could we potentially shift Leandro Trossard (£6.6m) into that group too, given his recent form? Maybe, although Gabriel Jesus’ (£7.9m) return from injury complicates matters. Even if the Brazilian isn’t ready to start until after the international break, he will surely eat into Trossard’s minutes.

Chelsea have the best defensive home record this season, surprisingly conceding just eight goals at Stamford Bridge. Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m) is averaging 5.0 points per match under Graham Potter, while Gameweek 28’s most-bought player Ben Chilwell (£5.9m) has delivered an attacking return in three straight games in all competitions.

Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) is very much in the running too, having produced his first assist since Boxing Day at the weekend. The last side to keep a clean sheet at The City Ground was Tottenham Hotspur all the way back in Gameweek 4, but Nottingham Forest do concede a lot of crosses from their left flank, so it’d be a bit of a surprise if Trippier didn’t end up being a consensus pick among the Scout Squad panel.

34, more games will move there than people think and it will be a better teams that double so a better squad than any other GW, if WC the week before

Hmm cryptic.. what do you mean by more than people think? Its 2-3 extra fixtures, can't be more than that

Oh ok, I'll have a read up on his twitter. Haven't done so recently cos I thought it was quite settled after FA Cup - i.e. City & Man Utd doubling in 34 & 37 so no scope to move those

I dont see any change. If GW34 includes:

              Brighton v Man Utd
              City v West Ham
              Liverpool v Fulham

... then the only outstanding games are:
              Man Utd v Chelsea
              Brighton v City

... which couldn't go in GW34 without making a TGW. Only variant is if Fulham beat Man Utd in the FA Cup then it'd be Fulham v Leeds in GW37 instead of Man Utd v Chelsea. But same deal, to move it forward would create TGW

34 can work - I had a tinker with it. Not so easy to balance the budget though if you get Trent, Salah, Darwin, Shaw, Rashford, Bruno + multiple City.

    Kepa
    Trippier Henry Zinch Botman
    Saka Ode
    Toney Kane Watkins

    (Raya Rashy Mitoma March Estu)
    1 FT

    GW28: March & Henry ➡️ Chilwell & Maddison -4
GW29: Ode ➡️ Mac Allister (could do Zinch to Shaw for -4 but not sure)
    GW30: Toney ➡️ Haaland

    Thoughts on this plan?

To me it seems weird to transfer OUT a player who has a game in 28 to prepare for 28 (when short on 28 players) - Henry. He also has a double in 29.

I'd probably do March and Etsu to Chilwell/Maddison or Chilwell/Buendia.

      1. Karan_G14
        • 9 Years

Etsu is a much better pick than Henry though and has 2 more doubles to come after GW29.

      2. Karan_G14

And with the transfer you suggest I will end up benching Henry only.

The only circumstance where TV could be significant again this season is if you're tripling up on expensive Liverpool players from GW32/34. But even still, there's so many underpriced players this season that I don't think it'll be a big issue

Chelsea fans, do you think Badiashile starts this week? I don’t get what Potter sees in Cucurella. It’s killing me having £5.0m on the bench and it would take a -8 for me to replace Badiashile

Anyone thinking of using FH for gw28?
All set for gw29, but have about 4 decent players for 28. Worth it, or will there be better chances?

    1. footballcandy
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

Not much in it, but personally I'd either wait for a more difficult to navigate blank GW that might come or use it to maximize on a coming DGW instead.

    2. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I think the key factor for FH is to look at your team for GW32 if City, Brighton, Man Utd & Chelsea blank - and compare that with this week. Also bear in mind that MCI/MUN/BHA will double in GW34 so you don't want to empty your team of them too much in GW32

      I am weighing up 28 vs 32.

I have WC for 33 which does make deadending to 32 pretty easy so may go for this week, wierdly might come down to Liverpool each week - currently own Mo do I want him for 29? and will triple Pool in 32 be worthwhile punt at home to Forest

if chasing, would you use 2FT to do veltman + halaand to chillwell + watkins?

    Kepa Ward
    Trippier White Veltman Pinnock Mings
    Rash Saka Ode Mitoma Maddison
    Haaland Toney Kane

Yeah if you're selling Haaland then Chilwell is a nice upgrade on Fofana. Just be careful not to spread the funds even further around in GW29 (unless willing to do Kane - Haaland)

For GW28, but with DGW29 in mind - no names mentioned - what would you do:

    Field 9 = FT out: a blanker from 28 | in: 28 starter+doubler in 29

    Filed 10 = (-4) out: 2x blankers from 28 | in: 2x 28 starters+doublers in 29

    Field 11 = (-8) out: 3x blankers from 28 | in: 3x 28 starters+doublers in 29

Notice: All the blankers in 28 will also have singles in 29

He might before the end of the season, that's why I specified if its mainly for BB29. Given the suggestions of Forster/Ward, I'm assuming this would be for Prinz's 2nd choice GK

FWIW... I'd have a second Arsenal mid over Mac / Mit.

They both have same number of fixtures over the next two gw's, but Arsenal have two plum home games.

You could then switch Mac / Mit back in later to take advantage of Brighton's extra fixtures.

    GW 28

    Raya

    Mee, Tarkowski, Trippier
    (TAA)
    (Estupinan)

    Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard
    (Mac Allister) (Rashford)

    Kane, Toney
    (Haaland)

Do you think I need to Free Hit or save it for a later gameweek? I have the money in the bank to do Trent to Chilwell and Haaland to either Watkins, Havertz or Joao Felix for 28 and 29 (single and doubles)

Then Tarky to Shaw for 29

I'd then have the money to transfer Haaland back in before Southampton for GW 30.

So I can naviagte it with a -4 and still optimise for a 29 Bench Boost? Opinions?

Thoughts on Salah for 29 if you already have him - on paper tough fixtures but should be space for Pool on the counter.

Given that don't especially need the funds, any other mids appeal more in isolation?
