    Afternoon all,

Current team and plan for the first few weeks (in theory anyway!) below, any feedback welcomed

    Onana
    Dias, Estupinan, Gabriel
    Saka, Rashford, Bruno, Martinelli, Eze
    Haaland, Watkins

    Turner, Baldock, Colwill, Mubama

GW2: Bruno > Jota / Diaz / Gakpo - Whichever Liverpool player (outside of Mo) looks best
GW3: Estupinan > Chilwell / James depending on who is looking best / not injured. Double Chelsea defence for GW 3 - 5 if they are looking strong

      Like it

Not sold on not having all players playing at this stage, so Colwell and Mubama would worry me. especially the latter.

Bruno has NFO the following week and Estupinan has WHU, asking for nothing but trouble. By the time you need Colwill he probably wont be playing.

I'm not overly keen on the first move, but depending on form, I can see the appeal of moving Estu on for Chilwell given their respective fixture swings.

This year I have purposefully left it late to avoid deliberating. AnyOne Help Out With Suggestions?

I am sat on this - Question is MD + FW = £17.5m MAX (ideally less to save funds, but prepared to max out)

    Pickford, Virginia*
    Chilwell, Gabriel, Estupinian, Mings, Baldock
    Saka, Rashford, ????????, Mitoma, Mbeueno
    Haaland, ???????, Joao Pedro

Which 2 FINAL PIECES of the jigsaw would you go for? I feel I need more City, a Liverpool, or more United. I do not want the risk of Garnacho.

I know its fairly template, but last season I deviated too much and had my worst season....
*Virginia will become Turner if transfer goes through.

Mid I'd go Fernandes or Martinelli - both have very good early fixtures and only eat up half your budget. For FWD you then have two options, you could either:
      A) Get a 4.5m, plan to play J.Pedro and save as much as possible for GW2/3 when you'll have more info (could bring in Salah)
      B) Commit to a higher cost striker, in which case you have max 9.0m to spend, so I'd get Watkins if you want safety or Alvarez/Jackson if you want to play more risky. Problem is there aren't many great FWD options between the premiums and the low costs.

Or, a third option - Get a 4.5m mid (Chukwuemeka?) and get Kane as your second striker. I still consider Kane risky though since he hasn't played pre-season and may still be out the door. I think it's possible he doesn't start until GW2 if he stays.

Don't know why you wouldn't just go Salah + 4.5 bench fodder FWD there. Then you have a 3-5-2, with Mings a decent first sub and 0.5ITB

      1. Bourbon, Pot Still or Islay…
        • 11 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

        Thanks

3rd Option - the issue I am concerned with is fodder wont cover a non playing Pedro.... I don't really want to do 4-5-1 becoming 5-4-1 when another issue pops up really.

I am looking at dropping Pedro down to a cheaper non playing and putting Walkins in. But that leaves me cash in bank, which I suppose I could hold for KDB return.... but couldn't afford Salah

I think I am on Bruno/Foden + Watkins at this stage.........

Yeah that's fair. I have Pedro starting GW1 and ready with 1.5m ITB to jump ship if needed. I'd warn against Foden though, latest quotes from Pep on him have been a bit.... uninspiring. I'd be surprised if he starts this weekend.

I really don't like TAA as a pick tbh. He's overpriced relative to the other defenders and he wasn't even taking corners - Szoboszlai was taking them.

          Fair.
Honestly I am confused between C&D

Jackson is a gamble but the lack on Nkunku means that most Chelsea's attack will involve him.

On the other hand you have Son with a new manager so can't predict how that will work out.
And I have Bruno so doubling up on United for Rashford makes me skeptical

Am I crazy for considering Havertz? I’m looking for a 7.5m or less mid and I know most on here will say Maddison or one of the 6.5’s, but I like Arsenal’s early fixtures.

I know he’s not the best finisher in the world, but surely playing in a confident, attacking Arsenal team who all know their jobs can only benefit him. Plus, I like the differential feel to it too.

Yeah, it could pay off. My view as an Arsenal fan is that he's probably a good player, and a good addition to the system we play, but not a great fantasy prospect.

I wouldn't waste an Arsenal spot on him.

1 of Gabriel/Saliba and then 2 of Saka/Ode/Marti - if you really want to go rogue it's Trossard, he can actually score.

    3. Saka Punch
      • 7 Years

Not crazy at all as he'll either play striker or in that attacking midfield role arriving late for headers etc so could definitely go well, but also obviously a risk as he might not start every game

Latest understanding of keeper options. Is this about right?

    Arsenal:
Ramsdale 5.0 (surely Raya 5.0 doesn'tcome straight in?)

    Villa:
    Martinez 5.0

    Bournemouth:
Neto 4.5 (but Radu 4.5 brought in)

    Brentford:
    Flekken 4.5

    Brighton:
    Steele 4.5

    Burnley:
    Trafford 4.5 or Muric 4.5

    Chelsea:
Arrizabalaga 5.0 (or Sanchez 4.5 if Kepa goes to Bayern)

    Crystal Palace:
    Johnstone 4.5

    Everton:
    Pickford 4.5

    Fulham:
    Leno 4.5

    Liverpool:
    Alisson 5.5

    Luton:
    Kaminski 4.5

    Man City:
    Ederson 5.5

    Man Utd:
    Onana 5.0

    Newcastle:
    Pope 5.5

    Forest:
    Turner 4.0

    Sheffield:
Foderingham 4.5, Adam Davies 4.0 with plenty of minutes in preseason

    Spurs:
Vicario 5.0 and Austin 4.0 sharing duties in preseason in the absence of Lloris 5.0

    West Ham:
Fabianski 4.5, some minutes for Areola 4.0

    Wolves:
    Sa 5.0

Verbruggen is a risk to Steele's mins. Ortega may have a slight chance of starting ahead of Ederson. Difficult to say Sa starts ahead of Bentley with Lopetegui stepping down

Ok so I finally entered my first draft and my biggest dilemma (apart from the Kane should-i-stay-or-should-i-go) is

    A) Chilwell & Cash in a 442 (+ fodder fwd on the bench behind Kovacic & 4.0 def)
    B) Colwill & Cash & Pedro in a flexible lineup (bench 1 of them every week ahead of Kovacic & 4.0 def)
    C) Colwill & Cash & Wissa in a flexible lineup (bench 1 of them every week ahead of 4.5 mid & 4.0 def)

Any food for thought on this?

I actually think he's a very good defender and west ham will be stronger with him in the side, plus he has a goal threat - fixtures are the only thing putting me off

Just finalising my week 1 bench boost team got me thinking, what has experience taught you about your game?
For me it revolves around the bench boost chip. If I keep the bench boost chip late on I can get blinded by planning for bench boosting on a double gw, when experience has taught me managing the big double gw with transfers and using triple captain can be as good or better. So I use bench boost gw1 to get it out the way and out of my thinking. Also means rather than using wildcard before the big double I use it when I need to, and that I tend to pick a more balanced template team week 1 without many punts then after I wildcard cheapen up my bench for the season.
Has anyone got any tactics they use born from experience, that go against the grain, because they've learnt it works for them?

I would love to get my bench boost out of the way, always ends up screwing me over, what players have you gone for?

Not settled yet, probably something like Turner, Pinnock, Bell, Pedro. As long as they start...it's not so much for the points as getting rid of it!

Exactly, completely agree, want to get rid of it too

          Turner Baldock Bell Osulu

I used it either last year or the one previous. Agreed on your logic of too much headache later on. But the only issue was that I had limited flexibility leading to a very early wildcard. Prefer to keep my first wildcard till week 7-8

I will be going without Kane or Salah in order to bb this year gw1 so I get the lack of flexibility argument

I am also thinking now to get bb out of the way, but I have gone for both salah and kane. Just need turner playing in gw1 confirmation

I like the sentiment for getting it out of the way but GW1 feels like a big risk with potential starting line-up banana skins

I think last year I was worried but all but 1 started, and they came off the bench. There is an element of lack of information involved but it's doable. As long as it gets me 10 points I'm glad to see it gone.

I always seem to do very well with playing BB in the later DGWs, so different experiences for different people I guess.

It dawned on me this morning that my draft is perfectly set up to Bench Boost. Never done it GW1 before and wasn't intending to, but the opportunity is just too good to pass up.

          Welcome to the club!

I'm bound to put it to the back of my mind. It does have the benefit of not making sub-optimal transfers heading into a BB.

My reason for doing it now is that I noticed 13 of my 15 players face the worst opposition in GW1. Apart from Chilwell and Watkins, all my players face Luton, Sheff United, Burnley, Wolves and Nottm Forest. There will never be another gameweek with such a concentration of weak opposition.

Anyone considering Osula (SHU) as a potentially playing sub? RMT suggests he might not be that bad and £1m cheaper than Pedro. To be fair, I know nothing about Sheffield UTD

Any constructive critique on my team would be much appreciated:

    Pickford (Virginia)
    Gabriel/Estupinian/Udogie (Mings/Baldock)
    Salah/Rashford/Saka/Martinelli (Anderson)
    Haaland/Jaoa Pedro/Alvarez

    Thanks!

Love Alvarez, but a bit too risky to have to rely on him every week. The obvious is Alvarez to 4.5 and Anderson to one of the 6.5 MIDs

Best 6.5m mid to start with? Seems to be a bunch of great options:

I'm relatively happy with the team.
My issue is relying on Anderson playing. The alternative is then to play Beyer or Baldock each week which isnt great
    Any advice please?

    Onana

    Chilwell - Estupiñan - Gabriel -

    Saka - Mitoma - Rashford - Salah - Anderson

    Haaland - Watkins

    Areola - Beyer - Baldock - Mubama
