I think I might have the luxury of just benching Haaland. My team value is high enough that I can afford any midfielder up to 5.9m as my 8th attacker in this week and then just sit Haaland for 2 weeks and that would save me lots of transfers to bring him back.

There's no one I really want anyway that costs more. Johnson and Hwang I can both afford and look decent picks if he's out. If he's not out I'll probably bring Porro in like everyone else. Looks like wait until Friday as usual before making any moves...

Similar position. See my ques below, I especially don't believe it's worth a hit if the player you bring isn't your Captain.

I wonder if it's easier for those of us who did Watkins to Darwin.

I want Watkins back, but I can now do Haaland to Watkins and keep Darwin to cover the blank, then move Darwin out to Haaland to get him back.

That feels slightly less wasteful and gives an extra player for gw18

Yeah might be easier for you to do it that way but I already have Watkins and Darwin so there's no striker I want - Isak is gonna be rotated.

I think the advantage with the Haaland funds is going big at the back.

      The midfield is fairly settled.

Do you have either premium defender?

Trent and Trippier would have generated more points that Haaland tho.

I think having Trent for now makes sense.

Trent Porro Pau Sensi Arsenal def. £3.9m

          Something like that ...

After that season that a load of games got cancelled at short notice, I believe it was 2020 with COVID, the VC choice really got cemented in a lot of people's minds as being a legit choice to remember 😛

    What's happening with Cash?

Is he out of favour now?

And why is Moreno not playing more mins?

Konsa is better defensively. Think Cash played too many mins and gassed out.

Considering the confidence that Fulham have and the tiredness that Newcastle have shown, it seems unlikely they'll be keeping a cleansheet and their defenders could easily be looking at a 1 pointer.

So the real question is will Watkins get either an assist or a goal? It would seem quite likely IMO

Mates, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 is the better blueprint?

In midfield there are more options but if we have Haaland Watkins Alvarez/Solanke upfront it is also a good tactic

I think in January when Salah, Son and Mbeumo are on international duty, 3-4-3 maybe the better option. Solanke, a fit Wilson and Toney back will also make it far more attractive.

Moreno coming back probably means more likely Konsa continues RB as allows Moreno licence to get forwards (better offensively than Digne)

Konsa has looked so comfortable coming off the back of a couple of shaky performances from Cash that I don't see him being first choice in the forseeable, though i'm sure will get a couple of starts oppositionrotation dependant

“It’s not a fracture, just a stress on the bone, hopefully can be ready against Crystal Palace, if not then Saudi Arabia. The day after Villa he could almost not walk properly, yesterday I spoke to him saying, “I feel much better, I can walk, I have no pain,” that’s why the doctor said we have to see week by week or day by day how he is.

“We will see. Maybe Crystal Palace [he] is ready, I don’t know…

I don’t think so but maybe. We will see.”

I think he's genuinely injured. They've been incredibly lucky not to have him injured before now given how many minutes he plays. I have a hunch they will want him fit for the club world cup. Means little to any of us as FPL fans, probably little to City fans in truth but that tournament will mean a lot to the City hierarchy.

Palace are better away so for 1 week only the Chelsea or even Bournemouth keeper might be better?

I'd maybe play Tark for a back post headed goal over Saliba too.

Brighton can't defend but they do score.

would you do Mbeumo + Tripps to Son + Pau now for free to avoid price fluctuations? two unavailable players to rested Son and Pau

      assuming Pau doesn't play.

i guess you need to do both at once to fund it.

      I would probably wait tbf.

Pau will be rested on Thursday, Lenglet will play - that has happened in must win games in ECL and we have now already qualified - just need a draw/match Legia result to win group

Anyone think Bournemouth's free scoring run could be stifled a little when facing the low block of teams like Luton? Do they have enough creativity for this scenario, or do they rely too much on their pressing game forcing opposition errors?

    (Weighing up Solanke v Jiménez)

I do. From what I have seen, BOU seem very reliant on turnovers and set pieces for chance creation, which doesn't bode well for the next two games.

Besides, Solanke is oddly reminding me a little of 22/23 Toney in FPL terms - contributing only in alternate games regardless of fixture difficulty

I do think sides like Luton and Forest, particularly the latter at home will have to 'have a go' against Bournemouth rather than sitting in and hoping for a point. Bournemouth know they've got a 10 point cushion over the bottom 3 and its not win or bust for them type of scenario.

Yeah its more the Luton game that I'm wondering about rather than Forest. But I think the temptation is to view Luton (H) as the money fixture and I'm just not convinced that'll be the case in terms of the tactical matchup

I'm not sure about low blocks and the tactics but there probably is something in him blanking against Palace, Sheff Utd, Burnley since GW10 despite them winning all 3 games. Maybe the opposition at that sort of level mark him out of the game?

Doku imo. Explosive player for goals and assists. However not sure about how many minutes he will get.

Has to be Doku as he is quite selfish but not sure on his game time when both are fit. Grealish plays more of a support role for Haaland.

Romero's BPS-friendly game looks to be primarily for pass completion - as in the Palace game where he completed a record-breaking 141:
      https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F9eaOhpWsAAXUfQ?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

But I think that's heavily compromised by the rate with which he picks up bookings (think its roughly 1 YC every 3 games across the last few seasons) and the constantly recurring suspensions.

Udogie gets into some brilliant positions attacking the box from open play, as with his goal yesterday.

Thanks Mentaculus. I haven't looked into where Romero's getting his baps but I can't imagine that 6 points for 90%+ pass completion each game (as opposed to, say, 4 for 80-89%) is the primary reason he's so strong in the baps. In the record-breaking game you link to, he only got 19 baps compared to 31 and 33 in the 2 games previous to it (without attacking returns). He must be getting them from other places!

My bad, a clean sheet explains most-to-all of the difference. But I'm still not sure what puts him ahead of other defenders, unless their pass completion is absolute udoggie-sh*t

Hmm honestly I'm not sure how much ball recoveries are weighted in the BPS but that could contribute too - his ultra-aggression can go either way here in terms of fouls/tackles. Wouldn't be counting on CS too much with Spurs; that's why I think the Palace game (since they conceded one) is a useful indicator

            1. Deulofail
              • 9 Years
              1 year, 12 months ago

              1pt for every 3 recoveries
1pt for every 2 clearances, blocks and interceptions (total)
              2pts per successful tackle (net)
-1 point for conceding a foul

I would guess it's these things that set him apart, generally. But I don't know

I suppose his propensity to pick up YCs should be weighted against Udogie's which, of course, with them both on 4 this season, isn't zero.

And Romero's goal threat is a little higher than his xG suggests imo.

I'll spend some time doing some bad maths based on hypotheticals and then end up plumping for Udogie anyway.

    Bench 1 please :-
    a> Alvarez (CRY)
    b> Nunez (MUN)
    c> Gordon (FUL)
I'm thinking Alvarez as Nunez has to haul sometime!

    Play :-
    a> Areola (if fit, WOL)
    b> Dubravka ((FUL)
RMT says Areola but that feels wrong based on recent form (mind you RMT also says I should play Trippier next week)

    Thanks 🙂

Ideally, I'd bench none of those three. But if you have to, Alvarez probably.

Tough choice regarding the keepers'. I'd play Dubravka tho. WHU hardly do clean sheets and WOL hardly fail to score. FUL in great scoring form too, but hoping the SJP effect can do its part.

Its Gordon surely? Two really poor displays from Newcastle back to back. Huge CL game midweek which will take a lot out of them whatever the outcome is. Fulham couldn't be in better form.

By contrast Palace are in disarray and riddled with injuries, possibly the goalkeeper being the latest significant one.

Man Utd off the back of a thumping by Bournemouth, could be low in confidence after getting dumped out of europe midweek, minus Bruno. And its the sort of game where a small defeat is completely unacceptable for the fans, every chance they get battered.

        1. Zeeshz

Yep, fair point. But my reasoning was that Gordon, and by extension NEW, have almost always found a way to keep points ticking over at home despite fatigue and injuries.

Meanwhile, CP are probably most comfortable in games where they don't have to make things happen. They are in a rut, have a truckload of injuries and frankly don't have much to lose. They can sit back, soak up pressure and hit on the break. So far this season, City haven't dispatched low blocks as ruthlessly as they used to. That's with Haaland being nearly ever-present. Alvarez is a pretty good stand-in for him, but I'm unsure if he can be explosive, moreso in a slightly underperforming City team.

Yes, only a clear he's out for X amount of weeks/months would push me to sell and/or him not going to the club world cup which would indicate he's out for longer anyway.

        I agree

what could be clearer, he was injured yesterday but he can walk.

He's v unlikely to be back for Saturday then it's the blank but people will bench him.

Hopefully it doesn't prove to be a disruptive niggling injury that takes weeks to properly clear and the rest helps.

the club world cup will be a priority for a city and we will know if he plays in those games that he will probably be back straight afterwards. i will wait but am planning to remove and get him back in 19.

I agree about Palace, if he doesn't even go with the squad to the club world cup I'm thinking GW 19 and 20 which come quite quick after the final of the club world cup (4 and 8 days later I think) are in serious doubt too and then you're looking at mid January for GW21 maybe as a comeback.
