I’m really stuck on this still. Any ideas?

    A) TAA, 4-5, White
    B) VVD, Gvardiol, Saliba

It's too much in defense. Both versions.

If I was going premium, I'd go TAA, Gvardiol, XX

B, but not sure on Lpool defence. Think they'll improve, but not necessarily convinced enough to spend 6m-7m on them

I think there's merit to decent defence. Allows transfers to be focussed up top

I'm starting to get drawn into having a midfield heavy draft. Son looks a really potent early season differential.

    How does this look?

    Miguel 4.0
    Gvardiol Munoz Burn Harwood-Bellis Barco
    Salah Son Palmer Johnson Gordon
    Isak Havertz 4.5

Double spurs, double Pool. Palmer. There's a lot to like about this one. It has surprise potential, it's quite a flexible structure since Havertz/Gordon/Johnson can be swapped for mid-price bandwagons.

Son/Palmer offers options at 10m price point if Foden/Saka become desirable.

The only glaring omission is Haaland ofc but I think this team should be able to compete. And if Spurs start strong it will be very good.

I think 3-5-2 could well be the starting formation and beyond. I know Solanke and Mateta were cheap last season and often there's at least one or two that emerge (Muniz?), but being on the key mids when they fire is FPL dynamite and there's value up and down the prices

Salah over Haaland doesn't just provide 2.5m, it also transforms your midfield in one swoop

3-5-2 is the approach I'm taking too. I do think you're making far too many sacrifices to accommodate Son, particularly in defence

It's not hard to fix that.

Gordon > Amad/Rogers and you suddenly get TAA over Munoz and it looks more 'balanced'.

His returns at the end of the season were playing up front. He was left side of midfield today. That isn't where I want my front line players playing. So until hes playing up top it's a no from me.

He'll start up front once everyone is fit. I'm confident. If they sign Merino, even more reason for him to start up top.

    5. Big Mike

Solid set up except for Havertz, as I suspect he will share minutes with a rejuvenated Gabriel Jesus. Plus I agree 100% about Son, although I wouldn't double up on Spurs as their fixtures are a bit pants, so I'd swap Johnson for Nkunku.

Johnson > Nkunku in GW3 is the plan. I'll take double Spurs gamble for lei EVE.

Havertz will play up top I'm pretty sure. But if not, he's also a flexible price so can go down to Muniz or whoever to free up funds.

The draft is very flexible without Haaland.

I don't count goalkeeper as covering a club.

You need Arsenal cover and you need it via either Saliba or their attacking options. You can fill your team with newcastle and chelsea players to your heart's content. Your ML rivals will pick players from a club that's finished 2nd in the previous 2 seasons

      1. WVA

Does Saliba offer 1m more value than Raya, Raya and a 4.5 defender over Saliba and Pickford for example?

        1. Random Name
          • 10 Years
          1 year, 4 months ago

Yes. Saliba is likely to outscore that 4.5 defender. You can also probably find a cheaper goalkeeper that will come close to Raya's points.

Trying to compare Saliba with a 4.5 defender is ridiculous. Saliba is a perma-starter. That 4.5 defender is a selection headache. At the end of the season, all these Captain Hindsights come out with nonsense like "this 4.5 defender offered more value and more points per million". I don't have a golden ball to work out when to play that 4.5 defender and when not to. Starting him permanently over Saliba means a streak of 2 points.

So I keep it simple, get Saliba and perma-start him. I have 4.5 defenders in my team but I also have the premium options

It's being reported now because it didn't happen. Newcastle did their PSR dodgy dealings by selling Anderson for more than his worth. But yeh, it does suggest Gomez is not first choice in Liverpool's defence, but then we knew that.

Not at the end of June anymore. We signed Anderson for 35 but what isn’t often reported is the Forest Greek keeper went in the other direction for a large sum. Net result for both clubs were safe from PSR. Happened with Everton, Villa and Chelsea as well. Money is there to be spent but the ruling prevents it unless you do these type of moves.

As Slot said, it's not exaclty double pivot as in 4-2-3-1, but it's rather staggered midfield in 4-3-3. But yes, it seemed like Elliot was more advanced #8 with Szoboszlai a bit back with Curtis Jones.

Feeling good about this big in the mid draft.

Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal and mid priced Chelsea attack. City defense with 3 nicely rotating 4.5 defenders and 1x 4.0. 5.0 slot for the 8th attacker. I think the picks are pretty nailed. Minor punts on Nkunku and the 5.0 spot, but nothing too outlandish. Obvious omission is City attack. I just can't find a team I'm happy with that includes Haaland. Foden we expect to be eased in. KDB i don't fancy and the other City mids are too risky for minutes imo.

0.5 itb for possible Palmer pickup
    Miguel / 4.0
    Gvardiol / Andersen / Barco / Konsa / Robinson
    Salah / Saka / Son / Nkunku / 5.0 (Rogers, Bobb, Amad)
    Watkins / Isak / Muniz

I don’t think Saka is worth it right at the start. He’ll be late back after a long Euros. I’d maybe go Ode instead and upgrade to an Arsenal defender.

      Rest looks really good.

        • 12 Years

I think from Artetas comments and his history of always playing saka he will start gw1. Obviously I'll listen to news and the pre game pressers and adjust if needed. But on current info I'm happy to go with him. I don't think odegaard is a terrible pick but redistributing those funds from mid to def kinda defeats the object of my structure.

nice team, if we get an indication he’s the main 9, I prefer Havertz + 6.5-7.5 mid over Saka + Muniz from the start to upgrade defence a bit

I like that 3rd fwd slot for whoever becomes liverpools #9. My moneys on darwin, but if we get signs it's jota I'll redistribute the extra funds to defense, or consider havertz if he's established as arsenal's #9

It's good. I like it. I'd probably just go Palmer from the start.

I have a feeling you're not going Palmer because Nkunku is there already as Chelsea. Just go with him, he's far more central to everything Chelsea do and he's elite at pens.

More playing time yes, but enough for him to take up a place in your squad? I'd expect him to be subbed on a lot for a string of one-pointers.

        • 10 Years

I think this open to debate. Slot has praised Eliott a lot over the last few games and he ticks a lot of the boxes for a player who would fit his system. The suggestion that he'd be benched is based on what Klopp did with him last season. I'm yet to see a player who fits what Slot wants to do more than Harvey Elliott. That's not to say MacAllister & the returning attackers could change that, but he looks to be well set for a big season..

          Haaland

          Watkins
          Darwin

nah only somewhat joking but expect Slot to give Darwin a chance, Jota isnt a natural no.9 so to speak and sounds like he wants one up top

I’d add at least these few ahead of Darwin because he can’t shoot straight.

            Mbappe, Lewandowski, Osimhen, Alvarez.

Then even these guys are probably still a little better than Darwin… Lukaku, Sesko, Hazertz, Fulkrug, Boniface, Guirassy, Gimenez, Dovbyk.

As you can see… I don’t rate Darwin that highly. But only because he got very little natural finishing ability. Makes good runs etc.

I’m often drawn to feeling the need to cover the bigger clubs, but is it really essential that, for example, I have an Arsenal player in my squad?

I'm without an Arsenal player atm.

It’s not essential, but you have to really back your other choices then because a number of Arsenal players will always score well. Their defence will be one of the best again, and all their attackers will get involved

well you don’t need to necessarily, but it might help at some point, especially if fixtures get better or someone is in good form
however, I think it’s fine to start without arsenal defence and maybe even attack for the first 5

this is the first season where their prices have been inflated significantly

and all the other prices have jumped up as well for the most part

Not for the short term, no. Arsenal have a few difficult fixtures short term which they probably will win, but they may concede, plus it's difficult to predict who will play each week. Their fixtures pick up after game week 6, so that's probably the time to switch to Arsenal.

If he continues in the number 10 role, absolutely.

    Please rank the folowing keepers:

    A) Raya (golden glove winner, cheapest route into Arsenal's defense but doesn't make many saves and so won't get many bonus points)
    B) Pickford (plays with a good defense and makes plenty of saves but fixtures short term aren't great and won't keep as many CS as Raya)
    C) Pope (solid FPL performer, good short term fixtures but defense is weaker than last year due to injuries. More injury prone)
    D) Onana (good shot stopper and will rack up bonus points, but defense is unsettled due to injuries and players returning from injury.)

I haven't included Leno in the list as I alrerady have Robinson as first bench and don't want to go double Fulham.

unless I'm mistaken cleanies offer far more bonus potential than saves so I think the cleanies now outweigh the saves

Not sure about that. Raya kept more clean sheets than Pickford last year, but Pickford outscored him as a result of the amount of bonus points he recieved due to the number of saves he made.

check PPM. Raya would have come out at a solid 160 at 38 games

However, Pickford did score similar and was 4.5 to begin with

Crucially, there is a new BPS system that suggests picking up bonus purely off the back of assists/saves means cleanies are the priority

Decided I want Havertz over Eze, just not feeling him. This looks Sonsational!

    Raya
    Gvardiol Porro Mykolenko
    Salah Son Gordon Nkunku
    Watkins Isak Havertz

I would go for Eze over Gordon. Palace are on fire in pre season and scoring loads of goals, plus you also have Isak so that should be enough Toon cover. I had Gordon for most of last season, and the one thing that puts me off from having him again is that his output away from home wasn't great. Plus Eze also has penalties.

Something to consider. Palace are missing most of their first team in pre season aren’t they? Has Eze played? Mateta won’t be back from Olympics etc

Don't know about you guys but my only 100% locked in player I haven't changed in any of my drafts has been Gvardiol, Gordon amd Isak. Anyone else I think there is something negative you can say about them

    1. Bobby Digital

Gordon could be off to Pool and he might also be eased in after the Euros

If he goes to Pool fair enough although do Pool really need another attacker?.. and a lot of time would have passed from the euros I never understood that argument to be honest.

You could argue there is negatives with all those too. Gvardiol expensive if you plan to have Haaland or Salah. Gordon could be on the move so unsettled. In fairness, Isak has no negatives and will be in pretty much every team. Isak good captain potential first week.

Only Gordon. Could go to Liverpool. And also he'd mean you'd invest 16m in Newcastle attack. I honestly think if SOU wasn't the first game he wouldn't be in nearly as many teams.

The other two I have had in all my drafts as well.

yes if ESR, Andre, Cuenca, Mctominay get done soon so they can integrate before start of the season

fulham will be the better side and Muniz will get alot more chances

also sounds like United might be abit light for GW1, Fulham won 2-1 there last season as well

So we’re Fulham. The narrative was that they ran out of motivation once mid table was secure but he is nailed with potential and two promoted teams in the first 3. He looks good IMO

This is the only way I can get Isak in and still get near enough the team I want:

    Areola
    Gvardiol | Porro | Milenkovic
    Salah | Son | MGW | Andreas
Haaland | Isak | Joao Pedro

    Look ok?
