There are two days to go until Fantasy Premier League (FPL) begins for 2024/25 – but there is still time to sign up for the free, award-winning LazyFPL newsletter!

We at Fantasy Football Scout are happy to announce a partnership with our friends at LazyFPL this season.

Over 50,000 Fantasy managers subscribe to their weekly missives.

If you’re not one of them, here’s what you’re missing…

Scout partners up with the LazyFPL newsletter

WHAT IS LAZYFPL?

Every Gameweek, these FPL masters condense all the key information and advice needed before the upcoming deadline, sending the newsletter out exactly 24 hours beforehand.

This season’s first offering will be received on Thursday 15 August at 18:30 BST because Manchester United host Fulham on Friday evening.

Such time period is a sweet spot between letting FPL situations develop and also allowing readers time to sort out their team.

The length is not too long, not too short. A real Goldilocks situation.

You can follow this link to check out the topics they typically cover. It’s a mix of essential news, key statistics, advice from experts, a look into captaincy and the search to uncover some hidden gems.

Quickly sign up for free – it takes a matter of seconds – and you can read them in full, either on the website or via its weekly newsletter.

Anyone looking at a GW3 WC?

I rarely ever pencil in a WC, you can WC from a position of strength or when your team is in tatters nn

Yeah I just save for a rainy day, should be easy this year with the banked transfers

I'm open to an early WC when Saka, Foden, Palmer are back & firing and looking like viable captaincy options, as this would require a major structural shift (I'm using Son as a placeholder for one of them but may go Haaland-less if/when I want 2 or more premium mids). But I don't really want to pencil in a specific GW, so planning for the first 4-5 initially

this is the one, we shall not be moved:

    Henderson (Bentley)
    Trent, Munoz, Myko (Robinson, Barco)
    Salah, Gordon, Eze, ESR (Winks)
    Haaland, Isak, Wood

hoping i'll be set for 3 GWs minimum

Nice. Worry that Arsenal are a machine and you will want one asset. Ive gone cold on Eze recently - but can easily get him in if needed

Yes that is the only snag, good shout. Just banking on this being the right time to bet against Arsenal assets, then probably swapping to Saka/Gabriel/etc. around GW5-6. But we'll see how long it takes me to panic

B for the first 2-3 GWs, A if you're planning long-term. None of us can say for sure that Jota will get consistent mins, but he looks safe enough to start the year, and Haaland (C) vs Ipswich seems very hard to pass on.

Anyone tempted to start cheap at the back?

The difference in point scoring between defenders is smaller than with midfielders and strikers

Nobody picks a team for week 1 and doesn't make any transfers all season

Would it really be the end of the world if we miss 5 clean sheets in 10 from Saliba, Gvardiol, Trent etc?

Gives us time to assess who will be the budget attacking picks and then transfer or wildcard in the better defenders if and when

    Something like this

    Henderson
    Mykolenko Robinson Hall
    Palmer Saka Gordon ESR
    Haaland Isak Solanke

    4.0 Winks Faes Bellis

    1. Dr.Acula

      I think it makes sense.

Most defenders are only going to get around 80 points, so the financial outlay doesn’t really justify the returns in my opinion.

I have Munoz at £5.0m but after that it’s 3 nailed on £4.5’s and a £4.0 for me.

Obviously everyone is different but I think the money is better spent on 4 really good mids.

Good shout I reckon. My first draft was all max 4.5 in defence.

I've seen gotten scared of Gvardiol, so have him as my only above 4.5 defender.

If I can think of where to spend the 1.5 I might change!

      Areola, Fabianski

      Gvardiol, Robinson, Andersen, Quansah, Barco

      That midfield could be gold.

Or it could just be Salah every week.

I’d be inclined to keep Salah and ditch Jota for a nailed asset like Eze.

I also get the feeling NKunkunis going to be a massive FPL trap, but we’ll see……

I watched quite a bit of the Championship last year and I'm pretty confident Ipswich will do much better than Southampton & Leicester. They were almost recklessly attacking at home at times, but I expect that to be reined in. Great manager & a system that should lend itself well to counter attacking at PL level.

              Davis in my team too

Southampton will be the whipping boys imo. Leicester squad is not that bad but Maresca's style wouldn't have worked for them in PL; they have some serious issues up front at the moment and have had a dire preseason

Please some opinion to finish me off.
    I am dithering

    Backline

    A) Munoz + Barco
    B) Robinson + Murillo

(Other defenders are Myolenko, Gvardiol, Quansah)
I dont fancy Brighton fixtures (though have Pedro as my rotating 7th attacker with Elanga)
Not convinced Fulham will pick up any clean sheets - hence the issue

Gona Haaland no Salah all along then came across this and actually tempted. Is it too unbalanced?

    Hendo (4.0)
    Gvardiol - Munoz - Quansah (Robinson - 4.0)
    Salah - Jota - Nkunku - ESR (4.5)
    Haaland - Isak - Solanke

Solanke aside similar to mine, so now thinking about your setup

If only there was a 4.5 mid then id be all over it. If only that CP lad Raki was a starter

Sangare looks set to start for Forest but he'd be 3rd bench for me anyway so not needed but a possible 2 pointer if the worst happens

Looks good so long as you're happy starting ESR every week. Mine is similar except I've gone for Pedro over Solanke which allows an upgrade on that 4.5 mid.

I'm definitely happy starting ESR for the first few weeks. More concerned about the lack of Arsenal and was on Saka before, but wondering if he'll be firing straight away after an extended break

Arsenal has a few tough fixtures first 5 GW so happy to go without to start with at least.

I am typically a very reserved manager.

This year I am looking to start aggressive with a bench boost in GW1. I understand this strategy isn't for everyone but I would appreciate some feedback on the best players for GW1 only.

    Pope
    Gvardiol | Gabriel | Porro
    Son | Jota | Diaz | Gordon
    Isak | Havertz | Solanke

    Henderson | Eze | Zinchenko | Quansah

The spots currently most up in the air are the 4.5m keeper and 5m defender. I would love for some suggestions if possible.

    Cheers lads!

A gw1 bench boost team isnt a gw1 team. Its a normal team with a playing bench. As its gw1 you accept you wont guess who is going to score points, so bench will do better than the first XI

By far the toughest year to pick an XI that I can remember in recent years.

      Agreed

its why ive settled on a different strategy this year

Starting with this Week 1 to target the best fixtures for Liverpool Arsenal Spurs and Newcastle
      Raya
Zinchenko Hall Porro ( Johnson, Konsa)
      Jota Son Salah Gordon (Winks)
      Isak (c) Havertz Solanke

Week 2: Free hit to get 3 city , 3 fulham, Liverpool in

Week 3: I have 1 million to turn Havertz in Watkins and play Konsa + Johnson

Week 4: After the 2 week International break i will do WC for the fixture swings
