The Numbers Game – Attacking Full-Backs

With clean sheets so scarce again this season, Fantasy managers have been largely forced to look to their defenders for attacking returns. With budget options also proving popular acquisitions, there is a drive to identify those defenders who can perhaps offer supplementary points to add to those rare occasions when they can keep their opponents at bay.

Thankfully, the role of the modern-day full-back in the Premier League also appears to have changed, with the emphasis now on joining the attack and helping provide a stream of opportunities for others.

In this latest article for our members, we cast an eye over those full-backs who have recently impressed in this area, assessing those most likely to deliver those occasional assists that can make all the difference to our Gameweek totals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is Cuellar -> Sagna worth a -4 hit?

My other defenders are Baines, Shorey, Gorkss (bench?), McCartney (doubt)

Gentlemen, I am ready to hit the transfer button on one of the following:

    Zabs, Nas, Clichy, or Riise.

Which option should I fly with?

Riise is the most nailed on, and has decent attacking potential over a good run of fixtures. The others are rotation risks, but play for a team that has a better chance at clean sheets. Depends if you don't mind the risk of rotation and have decent bench-warmers to cover.

Thought this might be worth a repost
    Spurs defence.

First, we haven’t kept many CS but at the same time we don’t concede a huge number of chances. This indicates that an upturn in CS could come and with Lloris between the sticks I am more confident of this.

Additionally we’ve been guilty of letting our attention drop in the last 10 minutes however we have Parker returning. Now, I don’t expect Parker to displace Sandro or Dembele as starters (although he may afford them some rest over xmas) however he will be used as a sub around 70 minutes to spur the team on and throw himself in front of the inevitably nervy onslaught.

Walker has started to get back to somewhere near what he’s capable of. Good news as well. 6.1 possibly too much for somebody who offers fleeting goal threat, but does offer fairly consistent crosses. Same goes for BAE when he returns.

Vertonghen is a beast. He’s about as nailed on as you can get and when BAE returns from injury will move to CB where he is more natural. BAE hasn’t played for the reserves yet however so this may yet be a couple of weeks away. Now at 6.3 he’s dearer than Walker or BAE but he does pop off a lot more shots than Walker and has some set-piece duties. A punt but one that may be worthy of consideration.

Now the main interest: Caulker. Now he’s much more appealingly priced at 4.9. He also has a lot of aerial threat. Issue is how much of a rotation risk is he? Now I believe that he is first choice but is not nailed on. He’s started to show his age a little bit in the past couple of games. Whilst he’s a much better option than Gallas and will play the majority of games – he will be given some rest over xmas. Now whether that is 2/5 or 1/5 remains to be seen and would probably affect your decision.

Oh and the captaincy thing is a non-issue and should be banished from discussion. Dawson is club captain and has spent most the season on the bench. Gallas is the most experienced player and so has been captain when on the pitch but was benched too. It really isn’t an important factor in AVB’s decision making.

Yeah but nobody is considering buying Dawson or Gallas are they? When Caulker is given rest it will be for one of those. I don't think Dawson will be ahead of him in the pecking order but he might be. He damn sure should be ahead of Gallas.

Parker for the last 20 mins seems to me the best strategy that Spurs could have since they concede so much in the last third of the match (plus he doesn´t go well with playing full 90 mins.).

Plus if it's 0-0 and we need a goal we can always haul off a striker for Parker and unleash Dembele as Mancini used to do with De Jong/Yaya

I tried to be as fair as possible - I don't think Caulker is a bad option but it's a judgement call and isn't as simple as him just being our 2nd best CB.

It's a risky choice. If he starts 4/5 games (or more), he's golden at his price. If not, it becomes a problem.

Hi guys, haven’t been able to do much research the past few weeks and in turn not been able to offer much advice or ask for many suggestions on my own team. Hopefully i’ll have more time for fantasy football now. How’s my team looking and what transfer/s do you recommend?

    Begovich, Federici
    Cuellar, Demel, Boyce, Enrique, Shorey
    Cazorla, Sessegnon, Sterling, Michu, Noble
    RvP, Suarez, Berbatov

    1FT. 2.1m in the bank.

On the whole "united want revenge on the Mackems for the title-loss jeering" thing. RVP won't feel the fury, having been at Arsenal at the time. So does that make Rooney better captaincy material than RVP?

I'd be more inclined to lose Caz to get Michu and maybe look at getting 1 big hitter in defence

4 weeks to WC so thought i'd go all out with attackers.. Puncheon to Michu this week and Cazorla to Bale/Silva next is an option too

I get that, but I don't think Caz is a great option. I swapped him for Bale last week, wish I had just kept Gareth. He's gone next week for Mata. For me, Mata, Bale, Michu, Fellaini and one of Sterling/Puncheon is the option mid, though I'm foregoing both and having Ramirez

        Bib theory:

When during a training sessions the first team players (wearing orange bibs play against the reserves/2nd string (wearing green bibs) it may be possible to speculate on the starting XI team the manager will pick for the weekend game.

        http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/Search/Search.aspx?EventId=158457630&EditorialProduct=Sport#

In this case the following photos suggest that Sterling (in a green bib for a change) will not be in the staring XI this week (has nothing to do with form or injury, but merely linking it with earlier comments from Rodgers about him needing a rest at some point)

        http://www.independent.ie/sport/sterling-would-be-very-foolish-not-to-sign-contract-with-liverpool-says-brendan-rodgers-as-man-city-and-chelsea-hover-3311036.html

Put these 2 factors together and one may infer that this is the week that he decides to rest young Raheem.

Please note that none of this might actually play out this way and waiting for the (hopefully early) Demi lineup tomorrow is advisable 😉

At L'Pool training the expected starters wear yellow bibs and yesterday Sterling was wearing a green bib therefore according to some he won't start.
